Thanks so much if you could do a whole video on what you mean by stopping your hands and letting the club go - that’s something I’ve never heard ! Thanks again 👍
@@jmack619 Thanks jmack - he's talking about stopping to let the club go somehow and i like it but i still dont get it :) most instructors keep talking about a straight line from you arm through the club after impact so im all confused. But they haven't won 3 majors
Huge knowledge of the golf swing. In the best and simplest way possible. His Irish humor keeps the viewer engaged as well. He's even moving on the Potty!! Classic stuff. By telling his viewers the most important factors in order, they know what to concentrate on the most. Paddy is a wonderful athlete as it pertains to golf. There are few players in the game that play "More Freed Up" than Padraig Harrington. To use an old cliche, "He gets out of his own Way." Paddy shows you how to open your body. More importantly he helps you free your mind
Your hole out from the bunker was beautiful, Paddy, because, while the ball was rolling towards the flag, one could even imagine the thoughts that went into making that shot. Beside the feeling and technique to do it, of course.
I really enjoy listening too P H. He brings a unique view to golf swing theory - discarding lots of inaccurate old "truths" and replacing them with stuff that works
I watched your flight on 3rd round. And you just played how you teach in your videos. That is why I absolutely find your golf tips the most realistic and not just en vogue gibberish like from other lots of other channels. Great respect for that.
Paddy, you are absolutely the best. My favorite golfer and I love how you tinker with the swing..from one double overlap to another.. Thanks for your swing wisdom.
Good for golf, good for Ireland and good for Paddy. A true Ambassador of the game and would love to see him get another crack at the captaincy for the Ryder Cup.
I've been watching a ton of golf videos on UA-cam . . . Watched this a couple times and practiced it for a few minutes. Hit the ball harder today than I have and by a lot! Best explanation of the golf swing I have seen so far. THANK YOU!
Does it feel much different? I'm a slicer and long hitter. Seems this move is a big uppercut feeling? When I do the uppercut and it feels like im really hitting up on the ball it goes long and straight. It's not easy though....
@Gunga Galunga feels a lot different . . Still fighting natural tendency to move right hip outwards . . It's actually easier on my back to swing correctly compared to my old swing.
Interesting to see a great golfer hit so well...to the point going off balance in the follow through...and it's all good. The rules are made to be broken....but only for good reason, of course. Many great tidbits of advice here.
Your reminder that you have to stop your hands to let the club catch up was a lightbulb 💡 moment for me and I used it on the course to immediately stop my bad miss left due to me unintentionally flicking my hands to catch the club. Thank you, enjoyed my round for the first time in a long time, hitting it low left is no fun!
I love Padraig’s no nonsense speech, we all have similar parts (well two styles but) fundamentally (see what I did there) you need to get your butt into the game! Squeeze those glutes for impact! Incidentally, not trying to be a diva here but you pronounce Padraig as Porrig!
You're such an inspiration "kiddo" .... simply loved watching you golf past "centuries" .... hahaha .... love ya ... keep it up ... stay bright... ;) ;) ALL THE BEST FROM ICELAND....
Thanks, guys, for this informative teaching video from one of the best. Lots of great and useful techniques. I'm anxious to use them, more speed more distance.
Legend. I enjoy your tip videos such much Paddy and take so much from them too. Congrats on a good week at the US Open too. Some great shots therein and excitement. Good luck in Stevens Point.
What a legacy you're creating by sharing such knowledge free online, thank you. Question: the hard swings in this video, you knocked it 320+ and straight enough to hit a fairway, but I never see you swing that way in tournaments.. why not if the result is so good?
A lot very good information to parse in this video but the key to the underlying physics is the idea of swinging into resistance in the downswing with the body and hands to trigger the acceleration of the club head around the hands like the action of cracking a whip-speeding up the hands and grip end of the club in the downswing then abruptly slowing it to trigger the whipping of club head around hands, where most of the club head acceleration before impact occurs. The idea of swinging into resistance with the body to generate club head speed with the hands was mentioned in a 1930s book called “Down To Scratch” by Abe Mitchell. It was the concept trick shot artist Harry Frankenberg (aka Count Yogi) built his unorthodox swing style around and something both Hogan - with his waggle action - and Moe Norman - with his unorthodox grip - also understood intuitively and incorporated into their swings to accelerate their club heads. I started experimenting with the concept about 15 years ago in my mid-50s after retiring, going to work at a course as a starter and being able to practice and play nearly every day. For the previous 20 some years I’d tried to model my swing on Nicklaus but I restarted from scratch by using Hogan’s Five Lessons. It was the combination of Hogan’s precise placement of the feet and his waggle wrist action which made me first experience the feeling of hip turn meeting resistance triggering the release of the club head around the hands. The pros where I worked taught the Moe Norman single plane swing as part of the Todd Graves franchise so I tried it and discovered the way Moe gripped and swung starting with the hands down in ulnar deviation when lining up and returning there at impact created the same release of the club head around the hands and predictable control of the club face through impact. I learned about Frankenberg and Abe Mitchell later but recognized the same cause and effect of physics in their swings. Something Padraig didn’t touch on regarding why tour pros have “rediscovered” that cause and effect and are using it so effectively to bomb their drives and loft their irons and wedges is that the conventional swing wisdom of the 1980s - early 2000s, while effective, were much harder on the body, especially the lower back and legs. Swinging into resistance and letting momentum and gravity accelerate the club head around the hands is much easier on the body, especially older ones. 😂
Hi Padraig, I would just like to say thank you for the tips on the 3 practice swings and to let you know how much it has helped, in the last 6 weeks my WHC has come down from 15 to 12.3 and wining a V PAR 8 up and today I won the ladies captain prize to the Gents with a 9 over net 64 in Fermoy GC, thanks for the tips keep them coming.
Golf's so unique in that we're expected to generate our best speed after several minutes of inactivity. I also do the hard practice swings to get the system revved up again.
Absolutely really like paddy's instructions, would rather hear average players instead of amateurs, some of the greatest players in history were amateurs, Bobby jones was certainly the greatest of his time. Watch all things instructional with padraig Harrison he is very good at being an instructor certainly one of the best and he is passionate about golf . Multiple major winner that i think can still get it done on the regular tour.
The lock out Padraig is talking about with Rory --- is that Rory does this at a RIDICULOUS speed than everyone else in the PGA. They times his sequence and Rory is like Superman getting into that position faster than anyone else. It is like impossible for other other pros to get there as fast as Rory. This explains how he is such a little guy 5'8 and is one of the longest hitters.
At 4 minutes he talks about the double overlap. I do this with all my clubs. The only other golfer I've seen that does this is Jim Furyk. I was under the impression that it causes me to lose power, but that is not what Padraig is saying here. I have been considering a grip change, but that is so difficult.
Huge thank you to Me and My Golf! Subscribe to them here: youtube.com/@meandmygolf
Thanks for sharing your knowledge Paddy. 👌🏻
Hope you boys take note...so what are your handicaps????
Thanks so much if you could do a whole video on what you mean by stopping your hands and letting the club go - that’s something I’ve never heard ! Thanks again 👍
@DonkeyKongBMAC I think it like snapping a towel. You quick stop your hands to get the best snap. Wish I knew more as well!

At the risk of stating the obvious, there is nothing better on UA-cam than learning from Padraig Harrington.
Your hole out from the bunker was beautiful, Paddy, because, while the ball was rolling towards the flag, one could even imagine the thoughts that went into making that shot. Beside the feeling and technique to do it, of course.
Never boring on this channel 😂👍
