PH is absolutely right with his breakdown of the two types of golfers. There is a certain beauty to striking a golf ball well and watching it fly. And to a lot of golfers (maybe the majority) are just happy doing that.
I can’t get enough of Paddy. I’ve only been golfing a few years, and his personality feels so normal and mature. Recently found this channel with the Broken Tee videos. Thanks for the content!
What a fantastic interview - thoroughly enjoyed it. Padraig is am amazing golfer and I am subscribed to his excellent channel. Speaking as a 6 handicap I understood al lot of what Padraig was talking about. I used to be one of those golfers who used to just love the feeling of hitting a great shot. I mean let's face it there is nothing in this world better than that! But now that Im older I have learned the art of the short game and have become a great scrambler. I can be swinging the club badly and somehow still manage to get a good score. Which annoys the hell out of my mates lol. But then, when Im on form, I get the bonus of having one or two of those amazing shots as well. Ive always been. decent chipper but I was a terrible terrible putter. I used to see it as boring and so I never scored well even though I could swing great. But now I have become a really good putter and that is what finally got my handicap down.
Padraig is so enthusiastic and generous with his knowledge. As an Irishman in England I try to explain how different the culture is in member clubs in Ireland. He articulates it perfectly. The juniors are not a nuisance, they are the means by which you will beat the club five miles down the coast five years from now. Tomorrow I will be squeezin me bollocks and rubbin out fag ends on the ground with the ball of me right fut. Brilliant pod Tom 💚🔥💚
Great interview. Padraig has such a common sense approach and ability to describe the game. He just seems like a guy you could join up with and he would welcome you because we share the love of the game. Thanks for your great videos too Padraig.
Padraig has been my hero for years. He never disappoints, and his recent remarks about how we treated single parent women in Ireland was very brave and correct. In the face of the PGA taking the high moral ground about Saudi, it needed to be pointed out and he fired ahead knowing he would get it in the neck for saying it. My HERO
I love Paddy, too. Respectfully, though, I think he was incorrect on the single mothers comment. While they were certainly treated horribly, I don't think it was ever a criminal offense to be a single mother in Ireland, nor were they jailed. It is a false equivalency to compare the Ireland's past treatment of single mothers and Saudi Arabia's state sanctioned beheading of gay men (for example).
respectfully, they were captives for all intents and purposes and had their babies stolen from them. the babies were purchased by and exported to the model of civilisations - USA. This was practiced in Franco's Spain also. The PGA has taken plenty of funding from the Saudis over the years . The PGA Tour were themselves a break-away group from the PGA of America in 1968. I think Paddy's point was dont take moral guidance from a bunch of hypocrites. @@dabaumga
What a great guy. He has so much wisdom. His golf lessons on UA-cam are amazing. If he gave up competing right now, he'd be the Irish version of Butch Harmon. No doubt!
Thank you for sharing this interview. Padraig is one of my favorite golfers. I love to see him whipping the competition on the Champions Tour. I really think he has the skills and game to win another Open. You can do it, Paddy!
When Paddy spoke about golf not being something a young man boasted about in the '80's, I had to laugh. I played on both the soccer and golf teams in Austin,Tx in the mid '70s. The TWO most unpopular sports in a high school at that time. If you wanted to play either sport you were on the team! Brought a girl to my room and showed her my Arnie, Jack and Lee posters on the wall and she laughed and said " MY DAD PLAYS GOLF! " with a tone of disgust. My heroes wore white belts and shoes, they were pretty uncool for sure, but I didn't care. Always like Padraig's game and style.
"I finished 46th and won £1480...sorry I finished 48th and won £1460" - made me chuckle. Enjoyable interview with one of the most determined and fierce competitors ever. Legend.
Really awesome tips and conversation. Hope to implement some, especially knowing where the club face is on my irons. I’ve asked myself many times would I rather score or hit the ball well. I score well at times but rarely hit the ball great. Thanks
What a fabulous interview, he seems such good and wise man, with lots of sage advice. Was lucky to spend some time in County Sligo for a holiday but was put off playing golf there because it was a little to pricey for me. Thanks for posting and special thanks to Padraig for sharing some great tips too.
Having witnessed Paddy use a 3W from deep rough with no clear site to the green and make a pin high shot 270 yards. He is a world class player period! To win the Open twice he is a complete hero. My father is a Irish Pioneer, all eight children drink. But it is seen a highly rude to drink there my fathers company or any pioneers company, sign of respect. I coach golfing at my club now but play GAA hurling and hockey so always had a club in my hand. I refuse as a club volunteer to take payment on anything, including club repairs. Paddy is is 100% correct I encourage 1/2 sets for juniors up age 16/17. I keep a package 1/2 set too to bring the juniors on the course. Just to make the point of don't blame the clubs.
A quality interview conducted by a quality person with a quality golfer who is also a quality human. Really enjoyed this. Only recently discovered my favorite golf writer is doing this podcast. Figures he's a great interviewer too. Two guys I would love to have in a foursome for sure.
Great interview and excellent advice at end of interview on Irish golf trips. Play in one area and use a base to travel from to the courses. Conn at Real Irish Golf organized a fab trip for us and we stayed in Rosapenna and played the three courses there and stayed in Sligo and played Rosses, Enniscrone and Carne. Memories of a lifetime!!🏌️☘️🇮🇪
Paddy, would you aggree, a golf swing is a throwing motion made serve a sports specific purpose? I learned and practiced my arse off at the age of 10 to master the tennis serve. The same exact sequence works in my golf swing but the orientation - direction if motion is different. Instead of jumping up and after the tossed ball, You accelerate downwards with your arms and club, but body works the opposite direction. As a reference, I can every once in a while drive the ball 320 yards during the season, when catching it clean off the sweetspot. And I defenately love the idea of learning the swing thru speed, not the contact. Kids learn it that way! Adults are so frightened to miss the ball, they start to steer the club face at the ball too early in their stroke and cannot square it naturalky.
I'm in the Columbus Ohio area and our public golf here is pretty amazing. For 50 dollars I can play very well kept courses, with a cart, nice greens, anytime I want. Country club memberships are status symbols that aren't necessary for a great golfing experience.
Paddy is being selective here. Golf is not that cheap in Ireland if you're not a junior. And the big links courses have become ridiculous price wise due to American and Japanese tourists!
Overall golf prices in the US are simply ridiculous. We have a course by me that is really pretty substandard. They want $1800 a year for the green fees on an annual. A few years ago it was $800. This place isn’t a gem either. Back in the day there were more courses in the area, but land prices went up, so a few of the courses were sold to developers. They are neighborhoods now. So the living population increased and the amount of places to play decreased. I think that as the economy gets worse, golf will become less available. It’ll return to a rich person’s game once again.
There are 2 Harrington pubs in Glengarriff. The owners are unrelated and also not related to Padraig's family who are from near Eyries out on the Beara peninsula about 40 miles SW of Glengarriff.
I wish I could pass you comments about drinking on to some people and they would listen. It would be life changing but most wouldn’t adhere to the great advice.
Golf is massively expensive here in ireland. I would be single digits (over 40) with a decent income, but it is still far far too expensive to join most clubs. If the annual sub is 1800, there is joining fee of multiples of that for alot of clubs. It really has taken the game away from a game everyone can play to a game only bank managers and rich people can play
Not to be pedantic Padraig, but Republic of Ireland has now over 5 million people and the north is almost 2 million, so 7 million on the island. Yes that is the highest since the famine!
You seem like a great guy Paddy but all the talk about hitting the ball a long way and even giving a tip about putting out a cigarette butt an NOT mentioning the golf coach that helped YOU regain driver distance and now you’re probably hitting longer than at any point in your career??? Really you’re not going to mention Michael Jacobs at Jacobs 3D?? Come on man!
PH is absolutely right with his breakdown of the two types of golfers. There is a certain beauty to striking a golf ball well and watching it fly. And to a lot of golfers (maybe the majority) are just happy doing that.
My favourite Irish sportsman. Could listen to him all day. A credit to our country
People just don't realise how under appreciated Padraig is.
The guys a pure gem.
really? I'll send him a christmas card😆
Padraig is a gift we don't deserve.
It's the gift that keeps giving😃
Could not agree with you more.
Anen
The best
Speak for yourself, don’t tell others what they deserve oh special one
Padraig is the best. Could listen to his insights for hours.
All college golfers or aspiring golfers should watch this. All golf coaches should have their players watch this.
Padraig Harrington is such a gentleman! I've learned so much from him, thank you, Paddy!
I have dropped 4 strokes on my handicap 12 to 8 since I started watching Paddy's UA-cam channel, he is an awesome teacher!
Love that guy and what he gives back to us by sharing these talks...a class act all the way...
Padraig and his channel have been a gold mine of information. This was a great click and listen. Thanks for the great content.

I love the fact that he’s used Wilson gear all these years and doesn’t jump ship like so many other pro’s. Class act indeed.
Great interview. Padraig has such a common sense approach and ability to describe the game. He just seems like a guy you could join up with and he would welcome you because we share the love of the game. Thanks for your great videos too Padraig.
HE IS TRULY ONE OF THE GREATEST AMBASSADORS OF ALL TIME FOR THE GAME OF GOLF
Love Padraig- absolute gent...and legend of the game
Padraig we are humbled by your generosity. Priceless.
Listened through the pod. What a great guest! Salt of the earth guy!

There are life lessons to be had here from Paddy not just golf lessons...
Tremendous interview. Exceptional insight by Paddy.
Thank you for sharing this interview. Padraig is one of my favorite golfers. I love to see him whipping the competition on the Champions Tour. I really think he has the skills and game to win another Open. You can do it, Paddy!
always a brilliant interview with Harro
21:20 mindblowing during next 20 seconds....!!! Thank you for uploading this knowledge!!
Thank you Tom and Padraig. Fantastic pod.
I think Tom understands the geography very well. Particularly the walk on the shore from Ardglass to Royal County Down.
Completely level headed down to earth feet on the ground unbiased approach. Has
Produced a very calm confident person
A true LEGEND of the game and an absolute gentleman 🍀🍀👏👏
Great interview with a treasure of a tour player. Love the confidence and courage in Mr. Harrington's game.
Always sincere, and a breath of fresh air
What a great interview with Padraig. But that's what you get with him. Huge Paddy fan. Great stuff Tom!
From a former goal keeper and golfer plus born of Irish parents from listowel good to hear Padraig insights.
Always great to listen to Paddy. Great insights from a great golfer. Thanks.
Padraig is such an underrated golfer, I wouldn’t mind to get a lesson from him in person🙌🙌
McIlroy could learn great humility from this man. What an ambassador for ‘Irish’ golf.
Padraig is awesome. He is the best.
PH is a gold mine of advice
Amazing interview! Thx for posting this! Big Paddy fan here -- cheers!

I agree with you ,I have up the game after 40 odd years because the fee was beyond me . I do miss the game but I've got use to it now .

Top top guy
Love his teaching videos 👌 Simple but too the point.
A quality interview conducted by a quality person with a quality golfer who is also a quality human. Really enjoyed this. Only recently discovered my favorite golf writer is doing this podcast. Figures he's a great interviewer too.

What a lovely man.
Check out the video with Peter finch and Paddy, absolutely brilliant
Could listen to paddy all day
Pardraig you are the best
Love Paddy 💪🏻
Mr.P is the best. A gift to all of us.
Great advice on the kids and relaxed courses all the way and the small par 3 courses for them. Experienced the same.
Very good advice .
150 euros a year and lessons Sunday? What's the deal for seniors? I could retire to Ireland and live a sweet golfing life.
Paddy is being selective here. Golf is not that cheap in Ireland if you're not a junior. And the big links courses have become ridiculous price wise due to American and Japanese tourists!
I mean there are some gems out there but I would agree that any of the good courses are expensive
PH is the man … check out dooks in kerry and the island gc in dublin
Life lessons!
I love Paddy
Love Paddy
Padraig giveth and Padraig taketh.

There's a pub in Glengarriff near Kenmare, called Padraig Harrington's, I often wondered if it belonged to the golfer or maybe a relative.
There are 2 Harrington pubs in Glengarriff. The owners are unrelated and also not related to Padraig's family who are from near Eyries out on the Beara peninsula about 40 miles SW of Glengarriff.
Thank you, I only remember the one, opposite the bridge just after you hit the bottom of the bank coming in from Kenmare.
I wish I could pass you comments about drinking on to some people and they would listen. It would be life changing but most wouldn’t adhere to the great advice.
I was goalie in hockey and know exactly what he’s talking about lol
Golf is massively expensive here in ireland. I would be single digits (over 40) with a decent income, but it is still far far too expensive to join most clubs. I would still put 20 quid on Padraig to win the masters. Great player nice guy.
Tralee, he missed Tralee!!
Pays his membership like every other member. Doesn't want any special treatment
I like Padraig speaks from within and was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
Don't come to the west coast without playing Carne. Thats all I'll say.

well that was a load of bollox
