    INFO: The Dillinger Escape Plan is a mathcore band formed in New Jersey in 97. They immediately proved to be one of the leading bands in this genre, creating an insane mix of heavy hitting screams, technical guitar work, mind-bending rhythms and oddly placed melodies. Over the years they’ve put massive amounts of focus and energy into making every song their best song yet, and every show the best and possibly the last one they do. With a crude mix of violence and precision they crafted two EP’s and an album that was hailed as one of the best ones in the mathcore genre. The band was active for two decades and has covered a lot of ground since the beginning, but in this video we’ll take a deeper look into their history and output between 1997 and 99.

    Dillinger are absolute legends, one of the most influential bands in the hardcore subgenre. Calculating Infinity revolutionized extreme music and imo should be never said in the same breath as BMTH or KE (which I love). Jane Doe is fine but people are forgetting one hugely important and overlooked album and band - American Nervoso by Botch def deserves to be up there. Nice vid but a few flaws.

    There's a book that parodies real life people and events(though some say it is not a parody, but is in fact a true historical account) called "The Illuminatus Trilogy" by Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea. The stories of the 1920's bank robber John Dillinger escaping from prison using a block of wood shaped as a gun are legendary, but in this book they portray John Dillinger as the leader of a subversive political movement, who could escape from jail by rearranging his atoms so he could walk thru walls.
    Just thought I'd throw that out there as an interesting side note in reference to their name.

    I saw Dillinger with Thursday right after miss machine came out and as soon as Dillinger hit the stage they opened up with Panasonic Youth and Greg was already crowd surfing by the word plans. It was fucking Epic. To the guy that made the video, you got to do a follow-up and continue the band's history because miss machine is by far the best album and not for nothing but option paralysis and dissociation are absolute works of art and examples of how musicians can go so far outside the box and so beyond what people's concept of music is and be so beautiful and poignant about it. There is no band as original as Dillinger, and there will never be anything like them again. I also hail from New Jersey, ain't nobody do it like mo fukkers from Jersey do it!!!!!!!! I will forever love Dillinger

      Man i hate the fact that i might never be able to see them live. They have to be one of the craziest and best live bands
      i've ever seen videos of. Anyways, about your request for a follow-up video: that's exactly what i had in mind. My favorite
      albums are Ire Works and Option Paralysis. So there will be more of this coming in the future. Thanks for watching and reaching out!

    FEAR BEFORE THE MARCH OF FLAMES
    That would be interesting. Awesome video! I grew up listening to Dillinger and, yeah, they're nuts. As I got older though, I ended up getting super into music theory (my channel is actually dedicated to just music theory) and it's funny seeing they quote about "ripping up the music theory book."
    Take a look at early 20th Century music theory and, uh... yeah, all of that dissonance is welcomed. Haha.
    Anyways, keep up the awesome work!

    • @LieLikesMusic
      @LieLikesMusic  5 років тому

      Thanks for your support! Personally i can't stand music theory. It just doesn't interest me at all. But i get what you're
      saying about dissonance. Weinman doesn't do the best job at explaining his music. I'll take a look at your channel and
      give you some feedback btw. Cheers

    • @GUIM1797
      @GUIM1797 5 років тому

      No problem! Thanks for spreading the good name of Dillinger. I listened to them a ton when I was bangin' out Number 12, Fear Before, SikTh, etc. etc.
      I understand that. If Music Theory is not your bag, it's hard to force yourself to get into it. That said, Music Theory is also shrouded in terrible misnomers and uninformed educators. Too many get barely into music theory and then act like they're ready to teach it. As a result, we get a bunch of "rules" that... aren't even rules. They're just pedagogical limitations usually. Oh well. Haha. It's kinda like only learning what nouns and verbs are in English and then trying to teaching everyone else about grammar and understanding dense passages of literature.
      And yeah, Dillinger's music would fit well within the typical mold of analysis. It would require a modern approach that's more akin to set theory. That said, I've never actually sat down to try and analyze any Dillinger! Haha. Maybe I should sometime. Haha.

      Mike G yeah it’s up there as one of my favorite albums ever. Manip is pretty amazing too.
      Not sure if I can pick between Doppelgänger, ATD-I’s Relationship of Command, or Bear vs Shark Terrorhawk for best post-hardcore album though. I also have a lot of sentimental value with letlive.’s Fake History.
      Saw TFOT live last year and they played almost every song on Doppelgänger and it’s still probably my favorite concert I’ve ever been too.

      Mike G
      I agree that no other Post-Hardcore album goes balls to the walls with riffage, technicality, song structure, and pure insanity like TFOT did in Doppelgänger.
      They have a pretty obvious influence on modern Post-hardcore with modern bands like Hail the Sun and a lot of bands in the current scene pay their respects to them. True legends who deserved a lot more recognition imo.

    1999 was a banner year for hardcore. So many seminal albums came out that year. When you listed those "giants of metalcore," you should have just focused on the albums that came out around that time and effectively influenced hardcore and metalcore for all the years to come. Here's some great albums from 1999 (aside from Calculating Infinity):
    Poison the Well- The Opposite of December
    Cave In- Until Your Heart Stops
    Coalesce- 012: Revolution in Just Listening
    Integrity- Integrity 2000
    God Forbid- Reject the Sickness
