Right? Learning all of the AF lingo at Yokota threw me for a loop. Personally, I prefer to live off base so I don't get caught in "the base bubble."

Yes! It definitely is different off base. When i was at yokota most of my friends lived in Tokyo and were non military. That really helped balance out life there

I was at Vandenberg during my stent in the Air Force in 2006-2012.. But I stayed in Lompoc after I got out in 2012. I just moved to San Antonio Last Month. Found you looking at LA fitness here and saw your video from a few years ago.

The sounds on base ect... I'm so used to them when my husband gets out or if we live off base it going feel so weird
Make friends in military is hard because you or they move
And alot of military drama too
I have had miltary friends in the past
But they all turned out to be B.... 🤥
So now that I'm in Italy 🇮🇹 I don't talk to any miltary spouses I stay to myself I do things alone which I don't mind
    Drama free
Maybe one day I'll go back to making friends
    And Trusting people

    • @PVergara
      @PVergara  3 роки тому +1

I feel you, i am definitely a drama free person too. I stay away from those who gossip, and if for any reason I can’t, I just let them know that I don’t like to know about other peoples lives 😂 they typically get the idea that if they want to hangout, well it won’t be about gossiping

I cared so much about being alone during deployments that i would always hanged out with the wrong people
      End up getting hurt
But moving to italy changed everything
Since my husband has short duty
      I don't feel as alone
      And in need of friends
The things we learn as military wifes

You are in an Armored Calvary Center. Tanks, Field Guns, Howitzers etc etc.... Not to mention the Apaches, Blackhawks and most likely cargo helicopters. At times during the year, in the past, in the middle of the night Patricia and you may hear from the ranges; 50 cal, 30 cal and M-4 rifles and the Tanks. The word your looking for Lalo is 'Liaison'; at least that what it was back in my time. and yes, PT is very important to front line units, like Armored Calvary. Infantry and Armored Calvary have a healthy competitive 'thing' between us but when 'we' deploy we are 'teammates'. As a bunch of 'potty mouths' We talk 'trash' but that is all gone when you on the same 'team'. Abrams and Bradleys are very important to Infantry. Definitely learn the Rank structure of the Army; it will save you a lot of headaches and Heartache in the future. IF someone talks trash to you, Don't mess with them Lalo, leave them be. Mentally, some Army Personnel have 'degressed' and are their own worst enemy. Keep positive; your withing driving distance of 'family' which is a huge advantage. I so happy for both of you. Just got to get with the 'program'.

Strykers are also now as big a part as the older tanks as well.

@@PVergara Your husband looks and sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders. Its sometimes, some of these army personnel can get a little testy; they have not realized their own mortality and think they are 'special'. I believe Lalo will stay away from them and their ilk. The point I make is there are differences beyond the obvious from an Air Force Base versus and Army 'Fort'. If I had any advise that I could give to Lalo I would say that while learning the rank insignias of the army would be very helpful, I would avoid any direct involvement and just focus on the job, depending on Lalo's MOS of course. Please have a nice weekend and keep enjoying the new surroundings and keep in contact with your family. Huge advantage.

E-1 private PV1; E-2 Private (one stripe) PV2; E-3 PFC (private first class, stripe and rocker); E-4 Specialist (upside down PFC with an eagle in the middle of the field) SPC; Corporal E-4, two stripes CPL; SGT E-5 3 stripes ; SSG Sergeant E-6, 3 stripes and a rocker; SFC Sergeant First Class or E-7 3 stripes 2 rockers; MSG master Sergeant 3 stripes 3 rockers; 1SG First Sergeant E-8 3 stripes 3 rockers with a diamond in the center; SGM Sergeant Major E-9 3 stripes 3 rockers with a star in the center. Unless its an extraordinary circumstance I doubt Lalo would meet a Brigade Sergeant Major or higher. Hope this helps.

I didn't make too many Army wife friends because of the drama. So mostly my neighbors and some ladies I went to church with at the time. Most of my friends were from off post that my husband met in his nerd community.
Lalo is spot on with his assessment. The Army policy is to hurry up and wait. I used to know all the lingo, but I only remember some. Growing up my family was all Navy or Marines (Still are) so I would use Army and Navy lingo interchangeably lol...I still do lol.
PT is a big thing, but SO many soldiers end up with back problems down the line due to the extreme way they run with heavy packs om their backs. I would try and make friends with your neighbors even though they are retired Army, they should be sympathetic and understanding more so than the average civilian.
Oh and if you hear your husband called a Pogue...it only means he isn't infantry. Also, the sounds I remember from Ft. Wainwright were helicopters and trains. When they were going to do training activities with shots fired they would let us know so we were aware of the noise and it didn't happen too often anyway. Also, Stryker vehicles are surprisingly quiet for such a large vehicle. That's why I didn't count that among the noises.

Yeah I definitely hope to at least get to know my neighbors, they seem very to themselves😢 but hopefully the opportunity will present itself. I also want to sign up at a gym just to meet like minded individuals 🙌💪
Lol i will definitely tell Lalo that! Sounds worse than what it is 😆
