- What's up guys. This is just a quick, down and dirty video of what I think are the biggest pros and cons of being in the Marine Corps. I tried not to be biased either way, I just wanted to give y'all a little bit more insight on some things that your recruiter might not have explained. @@tsmbri if it’s part if your longterm plan. While you are there read self development books and use your GI bill to get education in the field if your interest. When you get older you will always have your discipline to get you to a better place.

One thing you never have to worry about in the Marines is...a place to sleep, a place to eat, and the knowledge to survive. Marines always provide that. And also, if you make it, the pleasure of being a United States Marine. Lasts an eternity!

The idea is that one persons mistake can effect the entire group. It get it. Even so, it doesn't have to be for every little thing. The negative to that system of training is that it can demoralize those that are already doing their best.

I'm thinking about joining, I talked to the recruiter today and it seems like It can benefit me skill-wise, educational wise and just self work-wise. there are cons to everything in life. i feel like the military is one of the prime examples of you choosing what is best for you. I feel like if join I can be a better person and have a better mindset.

I had the same issue joining at 18 years old back in 2008. 12 years later I dont regret my decision. At some point you have to break away from everyone and start your own path. If your friends are truly your friend, they will stay your friends and be there every time you come home

My LCPL has been in 2 yrs. and has been home 3x within that period. He turned 21 a month ago and has 3 more years of active on his contract and then 3 years reserves immediately after that, if he doesn’t resign, which he may do, depending on his rank achievement at the end of his 5th yr. in.
One of the things he talks about as a con is being bunked up with someone you really don’t care for and:or clash with; for one reason or another. When this happens, it’s not easy to change it, so you have to adapt to the situation by learning how to make it work.
His answer to this problem was to sign out (off base) on his days off and stay in a motel across from the gate so it would allow him to get some rest and recharge for the week ahead. This may sound dramatic but it was a non confrontational way of doing what needs to be done without rocking the boat and causing undue attention and stress on both marines…..plus this was only a short time problem due to the fact both marines were due to move on to a different base in less than 6 months, so there was an opportunity to be paired up with different roommates upon arrival, which is exactly what happened, thus automatically resolving the conflict without destroying the brotherhood bond.
Its fun to watch your videos about the Marine Corps. There was none of this when I joined in 1987. It was a blind jump lol
If you're considering joining take your time, research, put things in perspective, think about how you're building your future. There is a lot of pride in the title "Marine" but think about what's best long term. Be a mature decision maker. The qualities of "Judgment" and "Knowledge" are two of the 14 USMC Leadership Traits.

I was in the Marines from 1989-1993. The Corps hasn’t changed much except chow hall money coming out of your paycheck, if I heard that right. We payed taxes but we were given the same provisions as a POW under the Geneva Convention; a rack, a roof and three squares. Servicemen/women should not have to pay for their own food. I hope you don’t have to pay for those nasty MREs. The only other thing is that in the infantry you don’t get promoted fast. You will more than likely find yourself in a billet above your rank. I consider myself lucky to have made E-4 in my four; most of my friends, at EAS, were still E-3s. Good, informative video. One other thing...you will be more proud of your service as a Marine after you have been out a few years. Semper Fi.

I’m 21. I joined the army in 2018. I’m a 92A and yes the recruiter didn’t tell me any of this I should’ve been more specific with what I wanted. I knew I just wanted to leave, but I have to commit to the time I signed up for and suck it up. Military life is tough. You only can call and text someone so much, it’s hard but that’s why you supposed to have friends at your duty station you can bond with, but you know how that goes. You are right about time management. Mostly the weekends are when you have more time to get off. I thought I was making a lot of money, but you have to put in time. I’m currently an E-3 Private First Class, so I’m still trying to figure out if I want to stay in the military or get out.

Ima be truly honest I’ve always been focused on being a man with honor and building a legacy for my family . I’m going to talk to a recruiter on Monday and get to the next step of becoming a marine. My thing is that I only wanna use this as a stepping stone towards my future like you said it looks good on your resume and the benefits for me and my family would be Impressive. But the only thing is I’m going in to become a better civilian and fight for my country and actually learn something in life but did you ever go into combat and had a close call or lesson that taught you something.? What would be the best branch in your opinion, what would you do different if you had the chance or were in my shoes.
Anthony Prieto , Honestly if you really want to set yourself up for your future and you want a good stepping stone, me personally I would go for the Air Force. Honestly if I could do it over that’s what I would’ve done. Hope this helps a little.

I’ve been considering joining the Marines and have met with a recruiter but recently I’ve been really starting to reconsider, now the only thing I have to do is make that final choice to join or to walk away and find something that is better fit to who I am.
During my tenure with the Marine Corps 1980-2001, I left at 17, was undecided about my future, I knew I was disciplined enough to take on this challenge, couldn’t afford to go to college so I took this route and mad the best of it. A lot of my High school who retired from other branches, when we had our last class reunions, we often talk about what was our motivation to become career, Service members? And we go back to the beginning of this when we all left at 17,and 18. It’s what each Individual make it to be.😊
20K marches... Wow. I played Warcraft and the grunt was my favorite unit because you can win with nothing but grunts in an all out blitz. I went to the marine base north of Oceanside and it was warcraft in reality. In warcraft the grunt has 700 hp where the normal footman has 420 and a peon has 75. The helmet, flack jacket, and tourniquets are what make the marine infantry 10 times more tanky than me.
The amazing thing about grunts is that they heal. Fungal infections, viral infections, radiation, tear gas, etc. Healing starts with infection control which may require cleaning with a toothbrush.
Discipline is something a marine will get familiar with. My brother in-law joined the marine infantry and after 8 months he learned how to operate an m27 assault rifle and hit a target at up to 1000 meters. When playing league of legends (which he had no access to for 8 months) he was the first death. I callously told him we needed to leave and to hurry up with the game. My brother in-law proceeded to AMBUSH the opposing team creating a "double penta-kill". Normally a penta-kill wins the game but my in-law's teammates were so non competitive it took 2 consecutive penta-kills to win the game. I didn't know this was possible and the opposing team called my in-law a "n*gger" and they reported him for psychological abuses.
I HAD to prevent my in-law from destroying the match making algorithm because of the DISCIPLINE the marines had given him.
My in-law said the Marines are still very similar to the movie Full Metal Jacket which has aspects of young adults partying too hard in stressful environments. I think this can be said for any post high school institution.

the way i look at the money aspect is its more than you think when you take in account all the things that are paid for you for example your housing and utilities. yeah i got car and phone bills to pay but for the most part i don't even know what to do with my money because i have nothing to spend it on.
jonny rose , Yeah that’s true, I just feel that the military overall should get paid more for the things we do. Some of us only make 20,000 dollars a year. You can almost make more than that working fast food. But I’m grateful nevertheless.
Trell the Great oh I agree 100 percent..but what I’m saying is like with your example of making more at fast food, yeah they may make more if you working like 40 hrs at McDonald’s but they would still struggle a lot more than we do because they have all their bills to pay for so in reality in equivalence we are actually making more. For example my brother as a corporal when you took in account all the things that was already being paid for him his paycheck of like 25,000 was actually equivalent to like 45-50k..much love brotha

You don’t get a fat check in the military but you also don’t have to pay for shit. People in the civilian world have a ton of bills so even if they make more money they don’t get to keep it anyway.
You will have the opportunity to save more money while in the military as well as not having your paychecks taxed while on deployment. It’s a great money opportunity

What you described is the lifestyle in any military branch. Apparently they pay well enough for your multiple sets of go fasters and this video shows you keep a regulation (zero to 3" max) hair cut regs, and your Xbox and huge TV screen in your room. 1983-1992. I also saw all kinds of civilian attire, but NO wall locker set up that actually makes uniform access quick. When did the Corps allow pierced earrings for your CZ stones?

It not all free, but does calculate in to a much higher true wage.
The Marines never offered a list of exotic duty stations like the Chair Force and the other branches always did. In the Marines the menu for us was always quite short. Either the Stumps, the Rock or Vietnam.

2 questions real quick, one- how long does it take to get sent to training after signing up for the marines? And two- what happens after training? Do you go home and wait to be called in?
Nathan , It just depends on when the next Company is set to pick up so you could sign up and get sent to bootcamp the next week or it could be the next month. After bootcamp you get 10 days home then you go to your specific MOS school.

The biggest problems I saw were people who got in a rut and didn't make the most of it. They wasted time drinking, whining, etc. You need to change your perspective. It will be very tough (JWTC, MWTC, etc) BUT those were a ton of fun if you made them that way. Who else gets to train with guns and gear in wild places? It is also tough because you don't get to see family that much. It is a little different if your family can come to your area and visit or if you have a spouse that lives with you. You also don't make that much money. The best thing though out of all of the "negatives" is you learn how to approach tasks with open eyes and learn to adapt. You have tons of opportunity while you are in AND afterwards if you aren't a lazy turd. Look into how to use your benefits afterwards (trade school, college, police academy, etc). If you aren't sure of what to do after your initial enlistment, you can always look at extending and preparing more. I'd recommend if you did some time in the infantry and are worried about a job afterwards, re up into a different job that pertains more to regular life, build a resume, then get out, continue your education, and go apply to a good company with those skills. ALSO you need to NETWORK. If you aren't a turd, show you are applying yourself, people are more willing to assist you bc you are an asset vs a liability. "I am a Marine" only goes so far if you're a lazy turd. NETWORKING helps a ton. Especially as time goes on after your enlistment. I apologize for the rant. RAH.
