I love the song, but this is a vocally lighter performance than my favourite from Wacken. She REALLY pulls the stops out and belts it to the finish. You will probably be in tears when you hear it. It gets me every time.
Yeah, to be fair at the end there it felt like Floor was very focused and hitting those notes differently because her "usual superpower" was a little off that day (still absolutely impressive). Or maybe this is the way she preserves her voice for multiple concerts in a row. Or maybe it's just that they are further away from the audience and she was in a lighter mind space and not really feeling the energy... who knows. The Wacken one it felt more like she went to town with it.
@Manveru31 I disagree, I've seen her perform on the level of Wacken 2013 with After Forever, Revamp and with Nightwish. I just think that to believe someone can be this flawless every night in a long tour is foolish. Floor is the professional she is because she knows how to perform amazingly even on the "not so good" days. She never cancels a show, she knows her instrument, and knows which part of it to preserve, and which parts are damaged. And she engages other parts when needed.
@Manveru31 Yeah, I can agree with that. The setlist is heavily influenced by what they were doing with Annette on the road, and the fact that the most recent albums were with her.
The Wacken version is just on another dimension of performance compared to this one. This is not a bad performance at all, just the Wacken version has so magic in it. Keep it strong guys \../
Like many others say, Wacken version of Ever Dream is better, but I like this one too. It's better you did this one first. You have to react to the Wacken 2013 version at some point. It's fantastic. Try "7 Days to the Wolves" Wembley Arena 2015 for Floor + Marko harmonizing. All in all a great song and performance. Co-written by Tuomas and Marko. Tuomas challenging Floor in windmilling. Prepare yourselves for the "Poet and the Pendulum", check the story behind the song. The song/performance is rough emotionally. But it is a masterpiece. Sad but beautiful. A promise for a new beginning in the end.
Everyone, I think we all agree that Wacken 2013 was a unicorn, a once in a lifetime event that is not supposed to happen, each performer taking it to the next level, every instrument being perfectly in tune, not a bad thing happening with the sound system and all effects happening without failure. That being said, I do agree with everyone on here that the Wacken version is much better.
Great reaction as always guys. 11 months for you to get to see them in the flesh. I've had my tickets for a year now and still have another 6 months to wait!!😁🤘✌
A great example of the band just enjoying each other's company on stage is their performance of Alpenglow at Wembley. There are some very cute moments in it, and it's one of those songs that always lightens my spirits.
:) so mad I did not know about them in 2015 or I would have been there!!!! Always great. Floor sounded like she had a bit if a cold. The waken version is magical - check it out too. :)
The Poet and the Pendulum is an intense song, especially with it being inspired by dealing with Tarja Turunen leaving the band and Tuomas'' feelings about it.
Bloody but UnBowed The Poet is not a song about Tarja being fired because of her toxic diva personality but about all the shit that happened after. Tuomas got all the blame and was basically crusified by the Finnish people. It really is bizarre the amunt of hate and accusations he got!!! This song is about dealing woth the extreme backlash from firing Tarja in order to save the band. And it was actually Marco who had said to Tuomas: either Tarja goes or I go!!!! Tarja didn't care abut the fans OR the band at all. Tarja only cared about Tarja. And that is why they couldn't work with her anymore. And the decision was in the end unanymous. It was the whole band who wanted Tarja out. Yet only Toumas got the 'blame'.
Floor just keeps going up .. and up.. and up in this one. Such a great song. As others have said, the Wacken version was super special. I think part of it is the level of quality in the recordings at Wacken (for all bands).
Greetings from Finland. Just to put this song into the proper context, this is what Tuomas Holopainen (the keyboardist/principal composer/metal Mozart) has said about it: "It is such a personal song. Opening up about my feelings, the way I miss a certain person. It’s pretty much all in there".
The snow would help to illuminate the area around the fire. This was a big European hit single from their 2004 CD "Once". Originally sung by Tarja. Great reaction video my friends. Peace.

Great choice guys, love our neighbors in Vancouver! A quick note on the two recommendations here by Petri Hietanen and Cornflower of Sweden in Comments section, on viewing "The Poet and the Pendulum": interestingly, and counter-intuitively, the version of "P+P" that Petri is recommending, with subtitles, as uploaded by "Pia Vasquez", has many more views than the Official Version, uploaded by Nightwish themselves! -- 2,422,199 to 463,000! But I agree with them that it is a great video, either way, to review, whichever one you prefer! Have a great day and keep well!
When you get to the Poet and Pendulum that one kinda dictates you need the video to have on-screen lyrics. And am sure others have recommended research the story before so you're aware of the biographical aspects of the song. Enjoy!
I love watching this one. All of them singing along. Even Kia. You don't sing along to songs you are tired of. The islander would be perfect for around the campfire. Poet and the pendulum would be perfect next to the water.
Another great NW reaction, and this version is very good. The song is amazing enough that you can enjoy it in whatever form it comes in. It's true that she does use more power in the Wacken 2013 version, but you could also say that the crowd goaded her into it and she let the excitement run through her. In this version she still keeps a modicum of control in the belts that go close to pushing, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. About you going for Poet, have you done your research on the happenings around 2005-2006 and the open letters at least?
This was on such a good tour, Sabaton and Delain were also on the bill for most of it. Saw them in May 2015 in Louisville barely two weeks after this show and they lifted the roof off the place. Possibly the best total show I have seen, only the Black and Blue Tour tops it for me.
This is a really beautiful version of the song - the Wacken version are more powerful and spectacular, but I really do like this one also. It is nice they change the songs a little bit each time. Great reaction from you again 👍 🤘 🤘
Yes! This is one of the most straightforward Nightwish song, but very good as such. This performance is a little less energetic than the Wacken one, but beautiful too.

Floor’s tone sounds in Vancouver a bit less high and less expressed. Although it’s still good, her performance feels not that fantastic as at Wembley Arena (London) or Tampere (Finland) same 2015. Maybe she was a bit tired at the end of a long tournament through North America? The band toured United States and Canada from April 9th to May 14th 2015. They lived, traveled and slept during their tour in a touringcar, giving almost daily concerts throughout USA and Canada. The concert in Vancouver at April 24th 2015 was no.13. Try some day the band ‘After Forever’ with Floor singing ‘Who wants to live forever’ Freddy Mercury (leadsinger Queen) cover ua-cam.com/video/QuK7c1wql-A/v-deo.html
Yay, you did it! :-) You are SO going to love Romanticide, I Want My Tears Back (both Wacken 2013) or Seven Days To The Wolves (Wembley 2015) when you get around to them...
How are two of my favorite reactors doing this fine night? Got home from work and this was the first video I see on my feed and got excited. Definitely watching this first, two of my favorite reactors and my favorite band. It doesn't get any better than this. :)
I'm really so annoyed that i lost the link to the interview where Tuomas said something like that he is doing "film music metal", since that would always fit so great when people talk about that they think it sounds like from a movie.
Great reaction... as always... you two are fun to watch for some reason, I’ve heard some music I wouldn’t normally hear on your channel. Keep up the good work. Doing a reaction to Dave Matthews Band might be interesting, live would be great... “#41” or “Don’t Drink the Water” would be my picks but really any song would be good 😎
I also have to wait 11 months to see them...it was supposed to happen in May this year then got shifted to next January and now to next October. But the wait shall be worthy!
Everyone else just got out of bed. I'm just having my Nightwish fix before ever dream. Only a few minutes ago, I commented on another reactor's channel that "they're family". This song is from an early album, "Oceanborn", when Tuomas was going through a tough time in his life. If you'd like some Marko and Floor dynamics, a good one is "Ghost River" from Wacken 2013.
Some bands that mighr be right up your allys... London Grammar -- try to listen to 'Rootin for you' or 'Hell to the Liars' ... Hannah Ried has an amazing vocal range. Dear Mother - '12 year in Exile' featuring Merrel Bechtold from Delain, The Gentle Storm, etc she's a little powerhouse. :)
Listen, Ginger. There's nothing wrong with a little snow. You get a nice fire going, a big warm blanket you can both huddle under together to share that body heat, a nice warm glass of gluhwein perhaps. You'll probably won't even notice your frozen toes after a few minutes. Speaking of frozen ... Floor JUST released a cover version of the Disney song Frozen on her channel. Just saying. Hint ... >.>
Nice to hear a reaction on this song that's not from the Wacken 2013 concert. I liked it a lot even if it is almost 3 o'lock midnight for me :) (just got home from work) Now let's get back to Wacken and do Ghost River , one of my favorites.
ahah you guys really are my favorites. Anyway, I hadn't seen this performance either til it dropped a few days ago, and I loved it. The little differences used to jar my ear but now I love them. This isn't one of my favorite songs of theirs, I think it's the sentimentality that makes me feel eh about it. Only Nightwish could make a love song sound like something I'd listen to, though, because listen to it I do, and still smile
Totally off this video and subject, but i was just watching Mike Oldfield 'Tubular Bells' live at the BBC 1973. It is interesting and when Miken Oldfield wrote and recorded this, he played all theb instruments
*Of course Wacken 2013 is something else....Wacken is an Open Air-Festival, they can turn the amps up really high....Vancouver gig was in a theatre...a closed venue, they don't turn the amps too much up...*
Great reaction. They are great rabbit hole to fall down. Sleeping Sun at Tampere or from End of an Era is a beautiful and haunting song. Poet and the Pendulum is emotional and epic. Keep up the great reactions.

How strange...🤔 NOBODY in the comment section told you the Wacken version is far far better than this... (just kidding!😜) Someone from the awesome community aka the Nightwish Army told me this was the 13rd performance in 17 days (yes, 13/17!😱) but they still have enough stamina to shine. My personal opinion is they opted to go less bombastic in order to blast not the roof off to outer space! 💥🤘😆🤘💥 👋🇮🇹🖖
I would say that you should react to the Poet and the Pendulum inside. Too many distractions outside. It deserves your full attention. Maybe a song like Ghost River would be a good one to jam to outside.
BTW - 40 years away from Vancouver is about 39.5 years too many. Makes you forget about the rest of Canada, and some of the things you wish to leave behind…….
I'll echo the several comments about the Wacken 2013 version of this song being better - in fact I'll even go so far as to say if there is a Nightwish song to which you want react and if that song is part of the Wacken 2013 set list react to that version. The Wacken 2013 performance by Nightwish was simply a masterpiece and every song is special. One possible exception is "I Want My Tears Back". The Buenos Aires version of that song is probably a bit better than Wacken but both are excellent.
This version pales totally to the Wacken 2013 one. ua-cam.com/video/1Xi4n8dJcF8/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Nightwish The last minute and a half of the Wacken one makes the hair on my arms stand up..it's like a freight train coming at you at 90mph and you'd better get out of the way while the band is firing on all cylinders and everyone's giving 110%...this one does nothing for me at all. I don't know if it's the mix, the setting, the face that Jukka's pounding the hell out of his kit vs Kai tapping his triggered drums, or that Floor seems to be using more head voice and taking it easy whereas Wacken she's in full on Valkeryie mode, I don't know...but I don't care for this version...watch the other one and decide for yourself.
@@MikeandGinger Well, I don't want to oversell it in case you're underwhelmed by it, but having seen prior reactions to Floor being Floor, I would say, "yes" :)
Hi Mike, Ginger, Was already wondering whether you would pick up on this new release from Nightwish (I did play it a few times already) :). Like others mentioned, I do think the Wacken version was better, but then, the sound quality was a lot better there, and the podium was totally spectacular - that is obviously slightly more difficult indoors. What is nice, however, that it is easier to follow the lyrics :). I just love it regardless, as I do love your reaction, as always :). And I still get the chills and goosebumps :). As to the garden performance, Ginger: you mentioned it once before, and I would absolutely love to see you do it that way. Some moody lighting, a fire, and the nice thing is you can more easily hide the use of tissues . Please, Mike, give it a try, the garden, evening, fire, moody lighting, starry night - would make for a great reaction, and it really fits The Poet and the Pendulum. Regardless, anyway you'd do it, I know I would love it! Thank you once again, love you! Warmest regards, Wim P.S.: Maybe you should consider Dead Boys Poem from Buenos Aires to tide you over to TPATP. :) P.S.2: If you are looking to replace your mitre saw, it may be a good idea to get a Mafell plunge/track/miter/crosscut saw which comes standard with a 370 mm crosscut track, and get some standard guide rails, with lever clamps which fit underneath, and a connection piece for more than one guide rail to cut longer boards lengthwise. There also is a much longer crosscut track, ideal for desks and/or kitchen work tops and such. I have the KSS 60 (184 mm blade), but there also is a KSS 80, which has a 250 mm blade for thicker wood and deeper angled cuts. These things allow for one-handed operation, really great. Recently built a new, 23 m long, 2.2 m high fence with it, tropical hardwood, and a new shed, 6.6 by 2.1 m, saddle roof, 3.6 m high, with a hollow core slab roof, Douglas pine. It is the saw I use most, because it is very handy, very convenient. I do have a table saw as well, but this gets by far more use for building work, and doesn't take up a lot of space either. Oh, and much, much less chance to cut yourself :). Lless recently I also used it to build a table with angled legs and a mitred top, a balustrade, several small tables for drinks etc., a large side-table, several larger book cases and some narrow tables for plants. Everything mitred, where appropriate :).
I absolutely prefer the version with Tarja from End of an Era concert. So there is many versions to prefer. This one is really punchy and slightly different from the others I've heard, and I like it a lot as well!
Not quite the energy as the Wacken 2013 version...but they did have 82,000 fans to drive them on there...and it WAS Floor's first show as a permanent band member, that could have inspired them all too.
Indeed one of their more straightforward metal tracks. Not exactly my cup of tea as I fancy more alt/proggy metal tracks ... or the major compositions like The Poet and The Pendulum. I prefer her singing more to these kind of straigntforward metal tracks in the way she sang with ReVamp and After Forever. More of the raw belting type of stuff than just clean nightingale like singing.
if its possible i would like to see you react to there 1st singer Tarja. Please could you react to phantom of the opera from the end of an era concert please.
I think you two would REALLY enjoy "Sleeping Sun" from the Tampere 2015 concert...a Floor special....it's like the first verse of this song, but the entire song is like that... ua-cam.com/video/rsotlzr9wNw/v-deo.html
Like many others said, Wacken is better. Besides, people sitting down at a concert like this??!! Next time, I hope they choose another location in Vancouver, where people can go wild.
I'm so used to hearing the Wacken version and yes she does sing with more power on that one, but I really like this version a lot, I think I might like it more than Wacken
I have seen commentators wondering why the audience is so subdued. I apologize and explain that Canadians are just not that demonstrative as a rule. On the upside there isn't much crowd noise in the recording.
That was good but Wacken 2013 is a real show stopper as Floor was really on fire the entire concert. Hey to get a feel for Nightwish how about comparing Floor and Tarja on the same song, not a competition as both versions are stunning but a way to show the true Nightwish experience Sleeping Sun Tarja LIVE (ua-cam.com/video/3LiuNOKP4B0/v-deo.html) and Floor LIVE (ua-cam.com/video/rsotlzr9wNw/v-deo.html). Both are stunning even though they are different.
maybe it's a regional thing? I'm in Toronto, and I've never attended an event that wasn't full of people rocking out :) (I don't like hockey either, but I don't think were supposed to say that out loud, lol) Thanks for the reaction guys. See you in the next one
Good reaction to a great song. I wanted to go to that concert, but work prevented me from crossing the Rockies to Vancouver at that time, so I hag to wait for them to come to Edmonton, of course they didn’t disappoint. I notice that you haven’t yet reacted to ant Ayreon, the brainchild of Arjen Anthony Lucassen. He writes really epic music then invites some of the world’s absolute best singers and musicians to perform it. A great song to start with is “The Day That The World Breaks Down”. The official video has comments from Arjen explaining what is going on and who the various performers are and is a truly wonderful piece of music. Also, if you have any problems with UA-cam and copyright with it, a nice message to Arjen himself will have all problems resolved in a matter of hours, he seems to really appreciate people listening to his music. Anyway, it’s just a suggestion. m.ua-cam.com/video/oFuMKdrzPqU/v-deo.html
Great stuff M & G. The comments are all apt and appropriate, but I too urge you to get inside the whole sorry mess that led to The Poet & the Pendulum which is Tuomas musical suicide to replace doing it for real, the lyrics in the video would be good but they are almost impenetrable in places, and as a hint, start timing from "Now I only have 3 minutes and counting". Keep the poppies, tomorrow is Armistice Day when the guns fell silent at the 11th hour, of the 11th day of the 11th month, you Canadians had a fairly big hand in it. A public holiday here in France, normally we'd dress properly, put a red poppy on and go stand at the war memorial that every French village has and have a speech from the maire (Mayor) after the silence at 11am, but C-19 has stopped that this year. I liked this though, you have acres of Nightwish to go yet !!
you are big fans of nightwish and people from wacken was the best and i agree but not all songs they play in concerts can compete with wacken and the people in vancouver says mayby this is better than wacken because i were there live

Try some day the band ‘After Forever’ with Floor singing ‘Who wants to live forever’ Freddy Mercury (leadsinger Queen) cover ua-cam.com/video/QuK7c1wql-A/v-deo.html
Awww shucks!! you shouldnt have. you know we cant resist.
You two have to try Sleeping Sun, with Tarja or Floor, both versions are so beatifull!
Her stamina is out of this world
But Stam1na is from Finland 😃🤘
Love this version and the reaction but I really recommend to listen to Wacken version. Much more mind blowing 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Yay, you did it! :-)
You are SO going to love Romanticide, I Want My Tears Back (both Wacken 2013) or Seven Days To The Wolves (Wembley 2015) when you get around to them...
Thank you for wearing the Poppy
Always! We are huge supporters of the military and veterans 🤝 - G
How are two of my favorite reactors doing this fine night? Got home from work and this was the first video I see on my feed and got excited. Definitely watching this first, two of my favorite reactors and my favorite band. It doesn't get any better than this. :)
Thank you! It's certainly our pleasure :) - G
Yeahhhh 5.30 in the morning in Austria and you doin everdream. A perfect start for the day. Send u my love 🤘😘🤘
Good morning! - G
The song " El perdón " by .Diana Navarro
Hint ... >.>
The Wacken version and Jukka performance is the best !
Nice to hear a reaction on this song that's not from the Wacken 2013 concert. I liked it a lot even if it is almost 3 o'lock midnight for me :) (just got home from work) Now let's get back to Wacken and do Ghost River , one of my favorites.
🤩👌💥💯🎼
The hopefulness shines through the song musically is what hits your soft spots in a charming way 😋 🙃
🤘😎 🇫🇮 💙
ahah you guys really are my favorites.
For some reason your videos give me the urge to watch "Strange Brew".
Take off, eh...ya hoser! ;) - G
Totally off this video and subject, but i was just watching Mike Oldfield 'Tubular Bells' live at the BBC 1973. It is interesting and when Miken Oldfield wrote and recorded this, he played all theb instruments
Can you do another EVER DREAM reaction but in wacken version? That version will blow your mind.
Certainly, at some point soon - G
I have an another suggestion for christmas. It will be Ave Maria bij Marco & Floor
*Of course Wacken 2013 is something else....Wacken is an Open Air-Festival, they can turn the amps up really high....Vancouver gig was in a theatre...a closed venue, they don't turn the amps too much up...*
Ha! Got out of bed just in time 🤟🤟🤟🇦🇺🇳🇱
Great reaction. They are great rabbit hole to fall down. Sleeping Sun at Tampere or from End of an Era is a beautiful and haunting song. Poet and the Pendulum is emotional and epic. Keep up the great reactions.
Hi Guys!
Lol 👋🏻 - G
Orpheum theater Vancouver seats 2.672 people... 😮
Oof! THat is small! - G

Just for comparison: South America

Teatro Caupolicán Santiago: 7000

How strange...🤔
NOBODY in the comment section told you the Wacken version is far far better than this... (just kidding!😜)
Someone from the awesome community aka the Nightwish Army told me this was the 13rd performance in 17 days (yes, 13/17!😱) but they still have enough stamina to shine. My personal opinion is they opted to go less bombastic in order to blast not the roof off to outer space!
💥🤘😆🤘💥
👋🇮🇹🖖
I would say that you should react to the Poet and the Pendulum inside. Too many distractions outside. It deserves your full attention. Maybe a song like Ghost River would be a good one to jam to outside.
no one can sing this song better than Tarja)))
💝🖤🖤🖤💝
The Wacken version is better.......still beautiful!
I agree.. the sound engineer in Wacken knew his stuff !!
Agree
YES!
@@steveakhurst7845 not just the sound, vocally Floor was more intense & powerful, musically the band was also more intense, I prefer Wacken personally
This is very close though, some might even like this better due to Floor doing more subtle vocals here
Highlander mention🤘🏻.
Ok, i found it
Tuomas : "we have been on this film music metal path ever since"
ua-cam.com/video/v65-ErfUyVM/v-deo.html
We shall check it out! - G
@@MikeandGinger Great - given how Floor's vocals affect you, that version (played loudly of course, lol) will knock you off your seat :)
@@mochs3869 so, install a safety net, then... 😜- G
@@MikeandGinger Well, I don't want to oversell it in case you're underwhelmed by it, but having seen prior reactions to Floor being Floor, I would say, "yes" :)
Hi Mike, Ginger,
Was already wondering whether you would pick up on this new release from Nightwish (I did play it a few times already) :).
Warmest regards, Wim
P.S.: Maybe you should consider Dead Boys Poem from Buenos Aires to tide you over to TPATP. :)
P.S.2: If you are looking to replace your mitre saw, it may be a good idea to get a Mafell plunge/track/miter/crosscut saw which comes standard with a 370 mm crosscut track, and get some standard guide rails, with lever clamps which fit underneath, and a connection piece for more than one guide rail to cut longer boards lengthwise.
Always so sweet :) - G
@@MikeandGinger Oh, now you got me, I am blushing ....
Actually, you two are sweet! That's why I love you two!
Every version from wacken 2013 is better than all the others. And 80000 people make party.
*PLEASE REACT TO NIGHTWISH - POET AND THE PENDULUM live at Wembley 2016*
I had the unusual honour of being the 1000th like.
You win! 👑😉 - G
@@MikeandGinger yaay!
You guys should do, While your lips are still red.. ❤️
Yes, Wembley Arena 2016 live.
if its possible i would like to see you react to there 1st singer Tarja. Please could you react to phantom of the opera from the end of an era concert please.
Mr. Andretti...
Most like the Wacken better. I prefer this one. Her voice is deeper and darker.
I'm so used to hearing the Wacken version and yes she does sing with more power on that one, but I really like this version a lot, I think I might like it more than Wacken
Agree!
Both are stunning even though they are different.
canadians seem to be a relatively calm audience (except at hockey i guess).
Some of us do not even like hockey.
maybe it's a regional thing? I'm in Toronto, and I've never attended an event that wasn't full of people rocking out :) (I don't like hockey either, but I don't think were supposed to say that out loud, lol) Thanks for the reaction guys. See you in the next one
I hate concerts - but if I ever heard that Nightwish would be playing in the Orpheum……..
Also i like the Wacken version better but still beautiful
We have done the Eye of Ra. We definitely plan to do more. - G
ua-cam.com/video/G1VTgXugz9Y/v-deo.html
Awesome!
I guess you got the message and stick to Wacken 2013 😂
Thank you. We always keep the poppies until the 11th. For that day, we've planned a special tribute. - G
@@MikeandGinger That's excellent, thank you.

It's fun to see. Everyone is having so much fun and they are making funny faces to the camera!
I'm really surprised at Marco's voice and lung power. On several interviews he was vaping heavily. I hope it doesn't effect him in the years to come.
He's vegetarian, and goes for walks. He moves like a teenager. I know he's at least over 45. But you'd never know it.
@@SandraNelson063 He is 54... and his lung capacity and vocal power has gone down over time. He was probably at his peak vocally in 2003-2013.
