Smiling from ear to ear. Good commentary. Gotta hand it to you, 30+ miles first trip in high water. 😆 lol way to go. Thanks for the grins. Been doin' it for about 47 years. You'll love it.

Thanks! I been on quite a few trips since that one, it’s definitely my favorite way to get out there.

What brand of kayak was you using? It looked pretty stable.

That was a field and stream. It’s a good solid yak but I prefer the ocean brand kayak I have now

I'm aiming this comment to any viewers that may want to do this. This is an insanely bad idea with the worst equipment. I am experienced in whitewater and also live in Indiana. I nearly lost my wife and a close friend of ours. At high flow and in windy rivers, you don't have time to be evasive. You may have cut vertical banks that make porting near impossible. I've assisted in body recovering and paddled creeks that claimed lives that same day. You couldn't port before going over that low head dam. What would you have done when coming around a tight bend and see nothing but a mangled mess of trees from one side to the other? A log jam of say 50ft wide by 40ft downstream. You would have drowned and nobody would find you for weeks. My wife, two friends, and myself ran into it. I watched (without a ripple at surface) both girls in kayaks be pulled straight down in front of it. I was 1 second to allowing myself to go to try to find or free them. Nore did I want to live in the aftermath of that . Both in shock plus my wife had severe poison oak over most her body and neither have been on a creek again as of now. Out of 4 kayaks, was left with 1 and half of a paddle. Raccoon creek, parked county, IN. Get proper training ....then you can laugh at all your faults.

You were on a kayak excursion on raccoon creek where you lost 3 people? Jesus…. my condolences. What year was this? There are risks involved in stepping outside. I knew the risks I was taking and in no circumstances would I recommend others to do the same. What county rescue team are you on?

@@reliablyrandomoutdoors No, didn't loose anyone but was on the very brink of it. Both girls and kayaks were sucked straight down once they got to the first log of the jam. My friend and myself had to do a head on power stroke nose first into tree and jump forward on top of log. Was horrified when I saw how long it was...and completely solid brush and grass over it all. I tied off my throw line, lowered myself down through the logs and tried to look around in the murky water. Every single branch, debarked and white to looked like a human arm or leg. Was slowing my breathing and was about to go through when my friend yelled Amy is up. 10 seconds later, my wife slowly floated up. They were on opposite sides but went in the same place. They were down about 2 minutes. Both were stuck. Was when they gave up and went slack, that then they were flushed out. Never found 2 kayaks, found the third a week later. I went through training in WV on New and Gauley rivers. Locals were asked to locate a body when swift water rescue could not. The young man was exactly where I thought he'd be....another log jam I knew of. This all happened in 2012.

@@beautomasi1701 yea that’s scary. I can totally see how it can happen. I had to portage many spots like that. The power of water scares the hell out of me. Do you still get on the water much? I can definitely say I learned a lot about water on that trip down the blue.

I live in Southern Indiana, and I'm very familiar with where this man is. I also consider myself an experienced kayaker. Please, unless you want to risk dying, "never do what this man is doing." That was a serious statement. He had a wife and 2 children. I'm not trying to be ugly. Just never do this.

Know before you go. Put yourself and potential rescuers at risk.

This is how people drown. By the way flood stage will have logs floating with you and there will be no time for inane commentary. Do not do this unless you are experienced in white water, go with someone with same experience and have knowledge of self rescue.

No disagreement with that in principal. I knew the risks and I knew the man i was. I have paddled close to 1000 miles since that trip. mostly on survival trips where i take no food. Life has very few risks in it n a day to day basis and every person should carefully choose what in life is worth a little extra adventure or risk. But my god I am glad I went.....

I would rather die living, than live dying. I pity people with your attitude. So judgemental and so afraid to live. By the way, that woman sending me off that day, that’s what a supportive wife looks like.
