So, Final Crisis has the villain create special helmets that brainwashes people and turns them into mindless worshipping consumers, which is ultimately stopped by the hero singing a song to stop the big bad. Final Crisis has the same plot as the SpongeBob movie.
And all of it was made by Darkseid, the so called "Supreme Evil" of DC itself. And his master plan was years prior by Plankton. Hands down, Plankton is the superior evil.
44:30 The Anti-Monitor being destroyed by Golden Age Superman himself is one of the most EPIC moments in comic-book history. The first hero ever stopping by his own hand the threat that wanted to destroy everything that came after him. How poetic
It especially is poignant when you keep in mind that according to DC canon at the time, that Superman was the very same one that first appeared on Action Comics #1 (1938). He was the first superhero. The one that kickstarted the superhero genre in the US.
This probably seems random, but your comment made me realize UA-cam technically has two “metas”. UA-cam themselves favors short-form content and has tweaked their algorithm to prioritize this in a foolish attempt to compete with TikTok. Meanwhile, us viewers prefer long-form content, a preference creators like Linkara have adapted to by creating these hours long compilations of their older, shorter videos.
@@batnerd5148Honestly I love that content creators like Linkara have been compiling their videos into several hour long videos. These are great for listening to on trips, exercising to, and even falling asleep to
"I'm the only one who remembers the infinite Earths, you see, I know the truth. I Remember all that happened, and I'm not going to forget. Worlds Lived, Worlds Died, and Nothing will ever be the same". Psycho Pirate 1985
I've lost how many times I've re-watch/listen to Infinite Crisis while either riding to work, going to the gym or level grinding in a video game. It's honestly one of my favorite episodes of Atop the Fourth Wall, alongside The Technis Imperative, Batman Hush and Marvel's Transformers Retrospective.
Same. I have a soft spot for Infinite Crisis as I started getting into DC when it was building up to the event. So glad it has such a good video retrospective.
Linkara's review inspired me to pick up the Technis Imperative trade when I saw it at a shop. I would love to see him dedicate a retrospective to Marvel: The Lost Generation.
As one who really isnt into DC too much, all these Crisis events as outlined here are really fascinating with their scope, gravity, and sheer utter craziness with all that happens. And its both amusing and sad to constantly try and see them one up themselves in the modern era with all these other crisis stuff and trying to delve more into folks like the anti monitor. Of the three, Infinite would be the one I have the most appreciation for because of all of its thematic approaches and scope and tying of loose ends, even if its massively flawed and needlessly cruel. Its first cover with the DC trinity and their secondaries is also one of my favorite comic covers of all time.
@@Maswartz226 He was telling on himself with Prime! I don't even think Johns is a Silver Age fan, based on the stuff he's written he feels more like an 80s comics guy.
@Maswartz226 Geoff Johns is not a bad writer, and his virtues outweigh his flaws, but he is still a flawed writer who often takes on projects a bit too broad to get everything right. I could criticize him all day, but could never dislike him. He tries. He cares. And sometimes he fails.
Y’know, rewatching this I actually disagree with Lewis on the ending to Infinite Crisis. I think letting Superboy Prime have the last word is a very pointed choice, conveying the idea that toxic nostalgia never really dies. It can only be mitigated, and you have to be vigilant and aware of its presence so it doesn’t rear its ugly head again.
Yup. I think of that every time I see a new Star Wars project. The same people desperately try to turn people against it, screaming that Disney is “killing” it, but people still like it, so they’re going to make more.
Crisis on Infinite Earths is still unmatched. Featuring every single character to ever have their own book up to that point besides Hal Jordan and Captain Carrot, there’s nothing quite like it
*Fun fact:* There's actually a pretty cool novelization of the first Crisis, written also by Marv Wolfman, which is narrated by the spirit of Barry. 25% of Barry's narration consists in pop-culture references, other 25% in praising the s*x appeal of the female protagonists, other 25% in expressing how much he loves Iris and the last 25% in actually telling the main story. Jokes aside, he epilogue in which Barry's spirit ends up in the future, sees an elderly Iris advising their grandson Bart (who inherited his grandfather's super speed), and realizes his time has finally ended and must now go to Heaven is just heartbreaking. There's even a full-cast audiobook adaptation of the novel that I totally reccomend, by the way!
I’ve read the novelization of the first Crisis. It’s brilliant and well done! It also shows that backstory of Barry Allen’s life long before he became the Flash (pre-Flash: Rebirth).
It's pretty hilarious how Superboy-Prime went from being a nice and endearing boy to an edgelord fanboy who literally yells things like "I WILL KILL YOU TO DEATH" or "THEY ARE RUINING IIIIIIIIIIIIT" 😂😂😂
Hey look at that! Not only did one thing come out on Monday, but ALOT OF THINGS!!! Some of them are classic, others bloody, and In Final Crisis' case, insane.
One of the weird things about Final Crisis' "the blindingly obvious first team up of Doctor Light and Mirror Master is that they ALREADY teamed up. In JLA. In a story written by Grant Morrison.
Crisis on Infinite Earths unintentionally started a very bad habit DC still can't stop doing to this day: trying to reboot and restart their universe while trying to keep the old one at the same time.
Ah, back when I loved getting new comics, every Wednesday. All these events (minus Final Crisis) came along at a time when I would literally look forward to new comic book day, and get down to my local shop, as soon as possible. I didn't have a pull list, until later on, because I always got in, early. DC was just a fun universe to visit, and during events, there was an excitement, to seeing the next issue, even the tie in. I remember in the Batman tie ins, to Crisis on Infinite Earths, everyone from Gordon and Bullock, to Catwoman remarked about the red skies and the storms. It was just cool. I subsist on back issues, now. Still love the DC Universe, and it's fun to go back. Hey, Linkara, in the event that you see this comment, I hope one day, we can get you to review Millennium and Invasion. Both were weird events, but fun to go back and read, all this time later.
Comic Book Herald have two articles called " Who Watched the Watchmen? DC's Death Metal" and "Too Big To Fail: What Snyder's Justice League & Aaron's Avengers Tell Us About Superteams - Pt. 2 (of 2)" that I highly recommend reading.
6:32 Good for you to use “Sacred Words” by Blind Guardian in the compilation (even if it’s a few seconds short because content ID) because it shows that it’s epic and exciting!
You did it Connor, you saved the Earth, you saved everyone. “Connor channeling Beast Wars Dinobot”: Then there is nothing to regret. Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly, the ill deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly. The rest... is silence.
1:06:40 That Robin was Jason Todd who Batman was currently dealing with in his return as the Red Hood in under the Red Hood. Chemo being dropped on Blüdheven happened during the final fight between the two meaning Batman ran from that to deal with the rest of the crisis
3:40:32- "I live outside your laws, your rules--your very notions of reality!" Can we just appreciate how perfect that line is for a blink-and-you-miss-it editing error? I love it!
To be honest, Final Crisis’s deal with time hard compressing on Earth would explain ASBAR’s weird warped perception of time where everything seemed happening before, after, and during the main plot with Crazy Steve.
Now what I really want is to eventually see Lewis review Dark Crisis, the most recent Crisis event. It's pretty good, and it sets up the current state of using the past to build the future. Y'know...the opposite of toxic nostalgia. On a related note, Stargirl: The Lost Children. It's written by Geoff Johns, brings some Golden Age deep cuts, and uses the past to add to the future by giving Stargirl her own Young Justice Society.
These are easily some of my favorite reviews of yours and I don't even know how many times I've watched them by this point. I don't know why but there's just something about DC event comics that provide you loads of material to work with (your Futures End review is still probably my favorite episode). I can't wait for your Death Metal episode where you'll undoubtedly break over DC continuity being unsalvageable beyond all recognition.
As much as CW's adaptation of Crisis of Infinite Earths flopped their take on the opening narration presenting the multiverse is really really good. And props for them for taking on the granddaddy of all comic events. It probably should have been a two part movie, but I doubt DC Cinematic would have done better.
In a way, it could just be me, but i swear they did it to say they did it and fix a problem that shouldnt have been there in the first place. Like ok the multiverse in the comics at the time made sense, but the shows… felt very unnecessary to do that. Makes it feel like dc had 15 timelines going (yes i almost counted. One or two minus)
CW's version was so disrespectful, to the DCU. The restrictions they had, in the Smallville days, was gone, for the most part, meaning they could've easily paid respect to the Batman. Wonder Woman, maybe not, but the whole thing was even worse than I thought it'd be, given their quality, up to that point. The whole assembly was there to prop up "Supergirl" (who didn't die, for some reason) and Batwoman , who was suddenly way better than Batman. The only saving graces were the Supermen, and Arrow, until they killed him. Film and TV Flashes meeting up was cool, too. Outside of that, it was another middle finger, from Berlanti and co. Sorry, had to rant.
Love the Crisis videos a lot, so it's great to have the four pre-New 52 ones all set up in a row. Makes me wonder if Linkara ever covers Convergence and Dark Crisis if he'll make a Crisises part 2 compilation for those two, Flashpoint, and Dark Nights Metal.
@@TevyaSmolka True, though I go by the definition put out by Trailer Drake that there were seven "Crisises" prior to Dark Crisis. The four in this video, Flashpoint, Convergence, and Dark Nights Metal.
My favorite moment of "Crisis on Infinite Earths" was when Captain Marvel meets Liberty Belle and Johnny Quick (who had accidentally ended up on Billy's Earth an hour after they got married) and gives them his room to spend their wedding night. Imagine Billy's reaction when he found out that two adults had s*x in his bed 🤣🤣🤣
And then Liberty Bell went on to almost marry a guy closer in age to her daughter (I think) Yep. That's a disgusting moment from the Titans retrospective that sticks out in my mind.
Honestly for me out of all the crisis events that DC has done over the years my favorite Crisis has to be well the original that start it all Crisis on infinite earths, mostly because out of all them that one was the most easiest one to understand an the story itself with the heroes and villain's teaming up to fight the anti-monitor was freaking awesome and badass, and plus that crisis actually had stakes to it where characters who actually died like Barry Allen flash and supergirl kara zor el who die in this crisis stayed dead for a very long time which actually worked in my opinion and was a fantastic idea and it opened the door for new characters to take there place like Wally west who was my flash for 25 years which I approve at least in my opinion, but that being said though the aftermath of crisis wasn't perfect and it did had many flaws especially with putting the history together for this new universe but despite that setback the original crisis on infinite earths is an all time classic that I will never ever forget at least in my opinion.
The Final Crisis review reminds me of how awful that Rubik's Cube symbolism is. I did a lengthy breakdown of it on the original review, but to tl;dr - no, the "number of god" is the MAXIMUM number of moves that it would take to solve any Rubik's Cube configuration, not the minimum, and even the original research paper that was likely cited for the number the comic gives notes that it was a median, some cubes took less and some took more. And it's obvious that saying "no one can solve a less cube in less than 18 moves" is bullcrap - take a solved cube, move it 5 times, and there, you can solve it in only 5 moves.
I still think Batman Beyond did the best "Bruce breaks his gun taboo" moment. Where an elderly Bruce Wayne trying to keep up with being Batman finds himself crippled by his own aging body. And in order to save someone else, likely having accepted his own death under the cowl long ago, he took up a nearby gun. And it was the event that got him to stop being Batman. "Never again". After a long life, after all that training, the technology involved in the new suit, etc. He hit his limit. And realized what he'd have to do to keep up. And that he was no longer worthy of it. As opposed to Final Crisis where he kind of quips about making an exception and is 100% fine with it.
To my mind these three crisis are a clear example of diminishing returns. The first is great the following ones keep getting more messy and the final one doesn't even bother to organize into being coherent because is so full of itself that doesn't feel it needs to. The sad legacy of the first crisis is setting up the reboot button to be used over and over again at DC turning more and more complicated to new readers. At some point it makes me think they shouldn't have finished the multiverse in 86. They should have done the same thing they did with the previous generations of superheroes, just move the older ones to a new earth. Superman of the 40s was on Earth 2 already, Superman from the Silver Age on Earth 1 just do Earth 0 with Bronze Age heroes and maybe set every 20 years there is a new Earth so they don't need to handle issues with the sliding timeline. The old stories would still be there and you'd also get the younger versions in a way less complicated way. Then every few years you could do a crossover. What I mean is, the formula they were using in the 70s was working and was less convoluted than what they ended up doing.
My biggest issue with Infinite Crisis is how it treats Golden Age Superman. There is no way he would be okay with wiping out an entire universe just to bring back his own world. I'm okay with him being tempted but Superman would never do that, especially when he is the representation of what Superman truly is. And his death was not done well either. Personally, I would have had him die being the one to take down the tower before it could merge the two worlds, as opposed to Connor. While Connor would be the one to take down Superboy Prime.
To be fair, it can be interpreted that Kal-L was being manipulated by Alexander Luthor. Also, he was clearly desperate to save his dying wife...who was the only other survivor of the old Earth-Two. I can imagine all that affected him.
I never really see people talking about it, but Final Crisis was so amazing to me. I loved the meta narrative, and ending with Superman making a wish just feels so right in this context.
The dark side bar should’ve been where Darksied goes between major appearances, just runs a hole in the wall and relaxes while running his empire remotely from an apartment
Was not expecting this to ever become a giant compilation video. A surprise to be sure, but a welcomed one. I'm guessing if the third Infinity event in the trilogy for Marvel ever gets chosen for Event Comics Month that will eventually get a compilation of that at some point to.
Since Superboy Prime is back on Earth-Prime after Death Metal do you think he's watched this video? I kind of like the idea despite all the jokes at his expense Prime is actually a fan of this review show. Maybe he's one of the commentors trying to fill the role of the old continuity alarm
3:19:52 I thought Zero Hour was an okay event, but the two-page spread of the DC timeline showing superheroes since Superman’s public debut being active since for ten years is a mindscrew for the readers. In my headcanon, it would make sense that all the heroes since Superman’s public debut would be active for 23 years (or 35 years since Superman started as the original Superboy at eight years old) since Superman graduated from Superboy at 20 years old, making the JSA in their seventies, the JLA in their late-thirties or early-forties, the Titans and Infinity Inc. in their mid-twenties or early-thirties, and Young Justice be in their early or mid-teens. At least that would make sense timeline and continuity wise. Also, in my headcanon, Barry Allen’s debut as the Flash would happen five years after Superman’s debut, the JLA would form seven years after Superman’s debut, Flash of Two Worlds would happen nine years after Superman’s debut, the first JLA/JSA teamup would happen and the Titans would form as the Teen Titans ten years after Superman’s debut, the New Teen Titans and the Outsiders and Infinity Inc. would form fifteen years after Superman’s debut, the first Crisis would happen 17 years after Superman’s pubic debut, Legends would happen a year after the first Crisis, Millennium would happen two years after the first Crisis, Invasion would happen three years after the first Crisis, the JSA would return and the Death of Superman would happen five years after the first Crisis, and Zero Hour would happen six years after the first Crisis. That way, it would make a lot of sense to the readers.
lmao, Final Crisis, it's amusing you mentioned Obama, because that was 2008..... and as it was released, comic fans were more into the Dark Knight movie! And even then, if I'm not mistaken, Grant Morrison was doing Batman RIP, and also All Star Superman was going and then later we would hear his Virgin comics stuff. So yeah Morrison was stretching himself thin, than how much we all go "Oh wow, we love JLA in the late 90s, wish we had more of that."
A couple of very minor, very nerdy nitpicks about one particular scene: - While God's number (the minimum number of moves you need to be allowed in order to guarantee being able to solve Rubik's Cube from any position if you can follow a shortest possible solution path) was only proven to be 20 in 2010, a few years after Final Crisis was written, that it had to be at least 20 was proven in 1995. As an aside, that does only apply under the standard half-turn metric, where you can twist a single face through any angle as a single move - under the quarter turn metric, where you can only turn a single face through a quarter turn for each move, God's number has been proven to be 26. - Despite God's number having been proven to be at least 20 a decade before Final Crisis was published, making claiming it to be 18 a sign of misunderstanding reality on a level similar to claiming that the direction to which the word "up" usually refers in English is the direction objects heavier than the fluid in which they're immersed move in when released. Despite that, it's only the minimum number of moves required for a worst-case arrangement of Rubik's Cube. If you take a randomised cube (or take a random possible position from among the many possible positions to be your target state) then, while it's likely to require close to 20 moves to solve it (following the shortest path), and it's very unlikely to be in a state that only requires a few moves to solve, it's entirely possible for it to be in a state that can be solved in only 19 moves, or 18, or 17, or fewer. I have a Rubik's Cube on my desk right now that I can solve in 0 moves. I just did it again. And again. That doesn't make me smarter than Metron; it just means that I picked up an already-solved cube and didn't do anything to mess it up before "solving" it. Solving a randomised cube in fewer than 20 moves, while it does mean you're very smart, or have dedicated far too much of your life to studying Rubik's cubes (probably both), doesn't mean you've "beaten" God's number; it just means that your random starting point wasn't one of the hardest ones to solve. The scene doesn't show off how clever Metron is (well, okay, managing a theoretically optimal solve of any cube configuration more than a few moves out from solved is actaully pretty impressive - but it's something that, at least with the right writer, many of DC's "intelligent" characters could do) so much as showing off how ignorant the writers are about mathematics and logic.
As to the last point, I suspect that Grant Morrison DOES get it, the problem is that Grant tends to write stuff with as minimal information as is necessary and consequently much more complex stuff like God's number just does not translate well into a succinct explanation and instead just comes across as "Umm, anyone can solve a rubik's cube in 18 moves if they only made 18 moves away from it being solved."
I used to contribute to a message/discussion board which had a sub board for comic books. The people there HATED COIE and Marv Wolfman, it's creator. They said he was a hack and that the series had created too many problems for the DC Multiverse. They added that decades later, DC was still trying to clean up the mess that COIE had made. And one guy, he was really outspoken about his hatred of the series and the idea of the Crisis in general. And not only did he hate COIE, he also hated the 1986 "The Man Of Steel" miniseries written by John Byrne. The guy said that "Byrne got his claws on Superman and wiped out everything I knew". He was also the one who informed me of DC Comic's penchant for "ret-conning their continuity every time you turn around". Because I was a newcomer to DC at the time (the late 2000's), I had been a Marvel fan for a while beforehand and was just then getting into reading titles from DC. So I had no idea that DC did that. I also become aware of the famous line by the late Mark Gruenwald: "Marvel doesn't need to ret-con it's characters - they got them right the first time"! Of course, by the mid-2010's Marvel did indeed do a fairly major ret-con of their continuity, but not to the extent that DC does every decade or so. They combined the Ultimate Universe with the mainstream 616 Universe and introduced the "All-New, All-Different Marvel". That's right, a ret-con, something they had never done before. Isn't that something! Anyway, thanks for putting all these reviews in one video, Linkara.
3:30:53 If I were DC, there would be two versions of Hawkman and Hawkgirl that coexisted in the Pre-Flashpoint continuity without any reboots or retcons that changed both characters. For example, the Golden Age Hawkman would debut in October 1939 and join the JSA in 1940 and the Golden Age Hawkgirl would debut in June 1941 and join the All-Star Squadron in 1941, while the Silver Age Hawkman and Hawkgirl (later renamed and rebranded as Hawkwoman) arrived from Thanagar to Earth and made their debut in 1961 (or 34 years before Dawn of DC) and joined the JLA 13 years in real-time (or five years in sliding time) apart. Everything would be like it is or was Pre-Crisis and Pre-Flashpoint without any continuity errors, while Hawkworld would either be a Post-Crisis retelling of the Silver Age Hawkman and Hawkgirl set in the past or would be an Elseworlds story. That is how I will set the continuity straight for the Golden and Silver Age Hawkman and Hawkgirl.

Yeah I still remember when this came out; nearly each issue was one of the coolest I'd ever seen and the series on a whole also one of my favorites...and maybe the one I dislike the most (it having wiped out MY DC and lead to me leaving comics). So many awesome cameos and interactions and never seen team-ups. And such wonderful art; as great as Kirby was Perez was the main man for crowds. I wish they'd shown the new Earth and let us see all of the drama of so many getting used to the new status quo, even if just for a few more months instead of that chaotic uneven shift over that we got with some series suddenly rebooting while others showed no change. The biggest shame is that there were still so many Pre-Crisis stories to be told, begged for team-ups to do and long asked questions that never got answered. Also, gotta say, I like the coloring of the original issues better than the scans.
I just found out on TV Tropes that there's an easter egg in Final Crisis that's a little jab at Countdown. On Rip Hunter's chalkboard, it says "don't worry about Countdown."
"Nor do you have enough of an attention span to bring up every single thing happening in it." You underestimate my power, Linkara. With the way my brain works I ABSOLUTELY have enough to do this! I can turn myself into a nerdy version of Douchey McNitpick if I so choose...minus the douchbaggery
I might be mixing up canon, fanon and retcons. I was under the impression that the New Gods of Apokolips and New Genesis were at least God-adjacent. Being empowered by a fragment of the Source, and being 'Gods' of the Source Word they have. Darkseid, New God of Tyranny. Mister Miracle (Scott Free), New God of Freedom. Grayven, New God of Conquest. Not receiving power from Worship/belief as the Old Gods, but empowered by fundamental concept.
Maybe it’s just me but… what exactly was so dumb about Kyle Rainer’s plan? I guess it’s because I’ve never read the book itself, but I don’t get why damaging Alex Luthor’s hand and stopping him from smushing the earths together over and over was so dumb, sure I don’t get how in the world they knew to do that but still
It's that it's not really a plan at all and he starts formulating it before anything major happens. And they keep saying in these scenes "Kyle Rayner's got a plan!" and then the plan is just "Shoot the finger."
I disagree that Alan Scott and Jay Garrick are way OOC here. Consider they just saw their close friends (Dr. Mid-Nite and Hourman) literally aged to death. And others: Johnny Thunder, Starman, Johnny Quick, Atom and Sandman turned to their true age with all of the problems that come with it. Plus Dr. Fate was ripped into two and left as an old couple. Jay wasn't spared by the age blast either. That couldn't have been more than a few minutes ago. Yeah, there is some major emotional trauma going on there. I am not surprised they took themselves off the board to be with the few remaining friends they had. Remember the JSA is about family and legacy.
One of those massive tuning forks eventually appeared in the Marvel Universe, in the clutches of none other than GALACTUS! …. But, he called it his “Cosmic Pleasure Rod”. It’s only ever appeared in a couple of panels as it was mostly stored in the epic depths of his GALACTUSH‼️
That theory about the Anti-Monitor coming back in Infinite Crisis could also work as being the thing that gets the heroes to trust each other again and defeat the same villain that they've fought before once and for all. Hell, it could even turn out that it was all part of the Anti-Monitor's plan to break the heroes apart so he could win this time. There could even be a parallel to how the Monitor has been watching the heroes all across the multiverse with the Anti-Monitor doing the same ever since his initial defeat, but he's slowly pulling the strings for events like Identity Crisis and other stories so he could break everyone apart, take over the universe and get his revenge. It could fit with Infinite Crisis' darker tone and make the Anti-Monitor an even darker threat than he already was in Crisis On Infinite Earths by him using psychological warfare.
The Anti-Monitor is truly one of the most powerful villains in all of the DC Multiverse. He wanted to destroy all positive matter universes so that only the anti-matter universe would remain. Thankfully that was prevented, but at the end of the original Crisis, only one primary DC universe remained, with the survivors of the alternate universes that had been destroyed being sent to a "paradise dimension". Holy shit!
I just realized something funny about the fusion of character in zero hour. You missed a brilliant time to subject that maybe that someone in DC comics saw Dragonball and Yu-Gi-Oh with the concept of fusion, you could have references that maybe that why a lot of DC characters got fusion into together to make something new. I just been rewatching this review like 10 times now and I just thought it would have been funny for you to references it. Anyway brilliant long review dude keep up the Amazing, Excellent work
2:34:00 The hand is a riff on the hand of god motif Kirby used in the New Gods books where it would write down the wisdom of the Source for Highfather. Morrison did a digital version of it
So, Final Crisis has the villain create special helmets that brainwashes people and turns them into mindless worshipping consumers, which is ultimately stopped by the hero singing a song to stop the big bad. Final Crisis has the same plot as the SpongeBob movie.
Ultimately a missed opportunity by linkara *I'M A GOOFY GOOBER ROCK!!!!!"*
Does that mean that Orion is Mr Krabs?
Holy shit. 😂
And all of it was made by Darkseid, the so called "Supreme Evil" of DC itself.
And his master plan was years prior by Plankton.
Hands down, Plankton is the superior evil.
I NOTICED THE PARALLEL TOO!

The Anti-Monitor being destroyed by Golden Age Superman himself is one of the most EPIC moments in comic-book history.
I just realized these are basically trade paperbacks of At4W videos
"Watching from a trade, no looking at the thumbnails"
This probably seems random, but your comment made me realize UA-cam technically has two “metas”. UA-cam themselves favors short-form content and has tweaked their algorithm to prioritize this in a foolish attempt to compete with TikTok. Meanwhile, us viewers prefer long-form content, a preference creators like Linkara have adapted to by creating these hours long compilations of their older, shorter videos.
@@batnerd5148Honestly I love that content creators like Linkara have been compiling their videos into several hour long videos. These are great for listening to on trips, exercising to, and even falling asleep to

These calm reviews are nice to listen to when you're on automatic. Feels nice to have a non abrasive voice in the room.
Same. I have a soft spot for Infinite Crisis as I started getting into DC when it was building up to the event. So glad it has such a good video retrospective.
That Reboot Guardian pfp tho man I miss that show (tgc notwithstanding)
I usually have to watch this all on a playlist.
Now I can listen to this while I work without having to switch every few hours.
Same here lol

I absolutely love your “Toxic Nostalgia” tangent from Infinite Crisis. I feel like it changed the way I look on my own past.
Makes me so frustrated by Geoff Johns.
@@Maswartz226 He was telling on himself with Prime! I don't even think Johns is a Silver Age fan, based on the stuff he's written he feels more like an 80s comics guy.
That tangent is my favorite.
@@kingofthegundam7974He isn’t. He came into comics in the late-80s. The Bronze Age had passed by then.
Funny how they showed Guy Gardner. Because HE'S A CHARACTER I'M SHOCKED DC HASN'T TURNED EVIL!
Honestly, one of the best Glow-ups that DC ever gave the Calculator was in DC Universe Online, where he's the man in the chair for villain characters.
And a few updates later you can actually SUMMON HIM to aid you in battle!
@@Ashurman666The voice they gave him is very good, too. DCUO made me appreciate the character, quite a bit.
Yeah DCUO calc is great! The first time I heard of him I was like "why don't I see this guy in more stuff?"
Wasn't he the Oracle equivalent for villains at one point in the comics? Information for money and a job broker? I think that was before the new 52.

Lol 😂 indeed superboy prime did went from being a endearing boy who wanted to help to later being turned into a monster.
Also, “EVERYTHING WAS BETTER ON _MY EARTH!_ “
Hey look at that! Not only did one thing come out on Monday, but ALOT OF THINGS!!! Some of them are classic, others bloody, and In Final Crisis' case, insane.
One of the weird things about Final Crisis' "the blindingly obvious first team up of Doctor Light and Mirror Master is that they ALREADY teamed up. In JLA. In a story written by Grant Morrison.
Whoops
Crisis on Infinite Earths unintentionally started a very bad habit DC still can't stop doing to this day: trying to reboot and restart their universe while trying to keep the old one at the same time.
I’ve been hoping you’d make this compilation, they’re some of my favorite episodes . Thanks
This compilation and having Infinite and Final Back to Back makes me really hope we get a re-review of Countdown for a future x00th episode
After Death Metal and Dark Crisis, DC most certainly need to give a break to their continuity for the time being.
Especially as at the time of this comment, almost all of the current “Dawn of DC” books are really good.
Conversely, Marvel needs to work on their own continuity...
DC has tried to play “have the cake and eat it too” with continuity for going on 40 years now.
@@pepsifromthemoon7515That would not fix anything.
The rest... is silence.
1:06:40
That Robin was Jason Todd who Batman was currently dealing with in his return as the Red Hood in under the Red Hood. Chemo being dropped on Blüdheven happened during the final fight between the two meaning Batman ran from that to deal with the rest of the crisis
3:40:32- "I live outside your laws, your rules--your very notions of reality!"
Can we just appreciate how perfect that line is for a blink-and-you-miss-it editing error?
Thanks Linkara love these compilations
These are easily some of my favorite reviews of yours and I don't even know how many times I've watched them by this point. I don't know why but there's just something about DC event comics that provide you loads of material to work with (your Futures End review is still probably my favorite episode). I can't wait for your Death Metal episode where you'll undoubtedly break over DC continuity being unsalvageable beyond all recognition.
@@pepsifromthemoon7515 I'd imagine that to be rather difficult.
2:37:40 This would be an interesting idea for an event and a horrifying one in the possible hands of Amanda Waller
Good question I wonder about that as well even though technically speaking convergence isn’t a crisis event.
@@TevyaSmolka True, though I go by the definition put out by Trailer Drake that there were seven "Crisises" prior to Dark Crisis. The four in this video, Flashpoint, Convergence, and Dark Nights Metal.
@@JennyBlaze253 that's true and you're right about that
Now he finally reviewed Convergence.
@@troin3925 Indeed he has. Though... Looking at it now Death Metal would fit a lot better than Dark Crisis, since it kinda wraps up the seven crises.
"We will not do anymore crises." Then the next year we got a Dark Crisie. Sigh
I've been re-listening to event comics month at the gym, so very much appreciate having all the crisises in one video
Are we the same person? I've been doing the same, too. It's just nice to listen to while working out.
@@oldchronokeepthe same person? oh God ITS ANOTHER CRISIS RUN FOR YOUR LIVES
I might just be missing what you're saying, but I'm fairly certain they meant an unsolved cube to start with..
@@romdan7136 Yes, you totally missed what I said
Really gotta wonder what kind of crisis DC will do for its 100th anniversary.
My favorite reviews all packaged nicely for my birthday! How fortunate!
The role of the Cats in this video are being played by Bulbasuars.
I never really see people talking about it, but Final Crisis was so amazing to me. I loved the meta narrative, and ending with Superman making a wish just feels so right in this context.
Keep up the great work as always linkara
Been a fan since 2012

Godfrey: So you wish to subject Bruce Wayne to 1,000 years of Metallica and Kiss? So it shall be, glorious Darkseid! Hallelujah!
Final Crisis was AMAZING. IT IS BRILLIANT
Now I want a compilation of all the videos talking about Countdown.
Nice to see a full compilation of these videos I enjoy this and your all in one star wars prequel months video. Kudos linkara ^_^
That Alex Ross cover with the Tuning Fork over the white face makes me think that Galactus was peeking into the DC Universe.
Kole in a nutshell:
"Hi!"
*POW*
Everyone else: "...bye."
lmao, Final Crisis, it's amusing you mentioned Obama, because that was 2008..... and as it was released, comic fans were more into the Dark Knight movie!
2:05:46 I guess you could say that countdown causes space to be warped in time to be bendable
Thanks man, I'm going to be listening to this A LOT while at work💜🖤
The Airplane!/Zero Hour reference was brilliant!
Well apparently the middle finger means peace among worlds
Can’t wait for this to become immediately outdated next event comics month when Linkara’s fans force him to review Dark Crisis
What's Dark Crisis again?
Recent event that led into what DC’s currently got goin on. Never read it, i think Darkseid’s the big bad
Linkara: (begins '90s dude gag skit)
Me: (proceeds to laugh my ass off) 😂😂😂😂😂
the more I see this.... the more I believe the Bruce Timm animated series nailed this perfectly in any single JLU episode.
The dead speak! Somehow, Barry Allen returned.
i already know i’m going to fall asleep to this so many times
Anti-Monitor sounds like Futurama Nixon, and I am down with that.
A couple of very minor, very nerdy nitpicks about one particular scene:
- While God's number (the minimum number of moves you need to be allowed in order to guarantee being able to solve Rubik's Cube from any position if you can follow a shortest possible solution path) was only proven to be 20 in 2010, a few years after Final Crisis was written, that it had to be at least 20 was proven in 1995.
As to the last point, I suspect that Grant Morrison DOES get it, the problem is that Grant tends to write stuff with as minimal information as is necessary and consequently much more complex stuff like God's number just does not translate well into a succinct explanation and instead just comes across as "Umm, anyone can solve a rubik's cube in 18 moves if they only made 18 moves away from it being solved."
love your Bulbasaur plushies. want some so bad ;w;
God, suddenly getting blasted with the old intro had me realing with nostalgia
Much like numerous, alternate Hawkpeople and Extants, these reviews have been merged together.

If I were DC, there would be two versions of Hawkman and Hawkgirl that coexisted in the Pre-Flashpoint continuity without any reboots or retcons that changed both characters.

Power Girl's face looks like it aged 20 years.
Why did Barry and Wally costumes stay. It looks cool. Just don't ask questions it makes it easier for everyone.
Power Girl, Donna Troy, Spoiler, Lyta Hall... has any superheroine been allowed to keep their children in DC?
Batman.
@L1701 Heroine not hero.
@Timepilot94 Again, Heroine not hero
Lady Quark had one DC Comics Presents soon after Crisis, and that was it for a while.
So in away Paralax suceeded at the end of Coversions?
Maybe it’s just me but… what exactly was so dumb about Kyle Rainer’s plan? I guess it’s because I’ve never read the book itself, but I don’t get why damaging Alex Luthor’s hand and stopping him from smushing the earths together over and over was so dumb, sure I don’t get how in the world they knew to do that but still
It's that it's not really a plan at all and he starts formulating it before anything major happens. And they keep saying in these scenes "Kyle Rayner's got a plan!" and then the plan is just "Shoot the finger."
@@AT4W Yeah, I HAD read IC (No ties in tho, I didn't know what to read where) and I agreed with you wholeheartedly when I first saw the video.
My favorite issue of Crisis was the Villain War!
So when is DC’s next event comic: Existential Crisis? 😉
Lol well technically we did get that with heroes in crisis I am not kidding.
Oh boy oh boy this should be good
Oh boy all the crisis events in one video this is going to be amazing
I liked the graphic audio of Final Crisis.
Anyway brilliant long review dude keep up the Amazing, Excellent work
Parallax: Fear is Misplaced. Or would it be fear is Displaced?
2:34:00 The hand is a riff on the hand of god motif Kirby used in the New Gods books where it would write down the wisdom of the Source for Highfather. Morrison did a digital version of it
