I have had arachnophobia all my life. What peaked my interest was my son and his love of all bugs. After watching your videos and the videos of the tarantula collective for weeks we got our first T. She is a beautiful female Aphonopelma chalcodes named Mrs. Miles (yes, it is after Miles on Spiderman). Her temperament has been true to her species thus far. I've only handled her 1 time when rehousing her into a better enclosure and it was a wonderful experience. I found a spider in my house yesterday, caught it in a catch cup and released it. It's safe to say that I have conquered my fear of spiders. Thank you so much for what you and the tarantula collective do cuz there is sooo much wrong information out there on how to keep T's !!!💟🕷🕸

After growing up in Arizona these tarantulas hold a special place in my heart. It was the first T that got me into the hobby as a kid. Even in the wild they are normally docile but I've crossed paths with some that didn't hesitate to kick hairs. I've never seen a threat pose but it's not to say some wont.
Another awesome video and very informative 👍

When we lived out in the AZ🌵 desert boonies, (needed a place zoned for a helicopter pad). We had a koi pond with really good soil all around it. No shortage of female tarantulas. The males, during the monsoons would come out and be all over the place as well, but usually it was the females we dealt with. They got pretty lazy as we fed them often (as they were really cute.). They would come out, after a few years, when they felt our vibrations walking by. We felt like a cricket-pizza delivery service ;) When my wife was digging in the garden they would come out to see what was up. She would occasionally pick them up and move them. Very, very docile if treated with respect. And the best part, no bark scorpions around ever….They must be delicious? We would see the tarantula hawks come by now and again, and we would hit them with the bug zapper that looked like a bad-mitten racket with electric attitude⚡️. Great entertainment, the only Blondes that ever would get in a defensive posture were the males during mating season. We would look at them and say “really, that’s nice, but don’t you have some courting to do” :)

We love our blondie! Charlie is very social. Sometimes he waits at the door of his tank and walks right onto my son’s hand without any other encouragement. Sometimes he doesn’t want to be messed with so we leave him alone. I have been very pleasantly surprised with just how much personality they have.

She loves her blacklight and at nighttime, she walks and climbs around for hours. I truly enjoy watching her as I am a night owl too. I am so happy I got her. Your videos helped me choose which T to get. Keep up the good work.

I have a soft spot for this one. My first and only T I ever kept was when I was a teenager and was an Arizona Blonde. I called her Reesie Cup, because she reminded me of a Reese's Cup (it's a regional colloquialism where I live to say Reesie Cup). She unfortunately died because I didn't exactly prepare her enclosure very well. I definitely had too high of a spot, and being a dumb teenager saw no harm in having an small piece of oak branch in her enclosure. Splat City. Broke my heart. Almost 20 years later and I'm just needing to prepare a good spot in my home for a tarantula tank. I've suddenly came back with an itch I need to scratch and get me another blondie. The kiddos will be interested once I finally have all the stuff ready and the free time to head down to the new pet store and get one.

Ive had my Arizona Blonde for one month. Its only 2.5 inches. I've nevee seen such a calm tarantula. It stays out of its hide about 99% if the time. It doesn't even run when you lift the lid. It might lumber casually away. It likes to stand on its tip toes. It stands all the time the way that other tarantulas stand when they are feeding....like they are a big 4x4 truck with tall wheels. It likes to sit for hours on the side of the enclosure. And it eats very well. This is T number 6, and it is by far the calmest.

The one that is growing fast goes into it's burrow everytime I open the enclosure to water or feed it and the other smaller one trys to test my gangster every chance it gets. Great video! I bought one from Tonya at Fear Not almost 2 years ago and it has not molted yet for me. I would estimate that is is about 3 or 3.5 inches. I think it is pre-molt, since it has kicked the hair off its abdomen and is sort of on a hunger strike for the last 3 or 4 months. It is a cool spider and seems pretty relaxed most of the time. When I got my T's for my classroom it was the biggest one in my collection but isn't any more, although it is a favorite of my students.

Aphonopelma genus is probably my favorite. I have several species of this genus and really enjoy keeping them. I find them fairly bulletproof and easy to care for.
I currently have four chalcodes, two of which are New River Rust Rumps morphs.
I find the chalcodes to vary in habits from one individual to another. Some like to burrow and dig, others not so much. Depends on the individual and can change with molts.

I went to Sedona, AZ for my honeymoon and looked all over the place for this tarantula! I heard plenty of people saying they saw them, but by the time I got to the place they clained to see the T, it was long gone. Spent a week in AZ and didnt see much more than a couple of burrows. :(

I absolutely love the Aphonopelma chalcodes because I grew up in Arizona and used to save them each October when people were running them over in the middle of the highway. So we did what we had to do to save as many as possible. Take care and I have several T's now I'm up to 15 since starting with 1 in December. I'll see you in your next episode

Thank you Ryan...i appreciate the support. My channel is still relatively new and no video has really gone "viral" yet...so I just have to be patient and wait for word of mouth to get around. Feel free to share my videos or channel with anyone you think might be interested though...and thank you for watching, i am glad you enjoy the content.

Great video!! I have 3 adult females, and they are my favorite in my small, but growing collection. I got a great deal on them from the guy I buy my Ball Pythons from, so that's why I got 3. I still might get more, because they are that awesome to own. I may get slings, or juveniles for the next ones.

ours is only about 1½ inches long, but it's a total baby. our 2 year old broke into our bedroom, and opened up the enclosure and picked it up and was handling it much to my wife's dismay. didn't kick up any hairs, or bite at all. I keep the catch cup nearby (thanks to the beginner's tips video, thanks for that), so she was able to put it in the cup and return it to it's enclosure (she doesn't like handling them).

Thanks for upload. Aphonopelma Chalcaodes (Arizona Blondi) was my first T and the one got me into tarantulas. They are very slow growers and pretty boring for beginners but nevertheless a beautiful tarantula... Mine went on a hunger strike for a little bit over a whole year and just started eating again this month. Didn't know they could go without food that long. Green Bottle Blue is a much better and exciting tarantula for beginners because it has it all... It webs... It eats like crazy... and it's an awesome color! I still love my Arizona Blonde tho...
