Spider Queen of the Sonoran Desert - Aphonopelma chalcodes Tarantula
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 лип 2024
- Throughout the southwestern United States and Northern Mexico roams a hairy beast that evolved over millions of years and honed their skills to become an apex predator of the desert. With large, thick fangs that inject a paralyzing venom into their prey, thousands of highly sensitive hairs all over their body, as well as defensive setae on their abdomen that they can kick up into the air that act as harpoons. This terrifying night stalker of the desert would be more accurately described as the Gentle Giant Spider of the Arizona Desert.
Join me as we examine the Aphonopelma chalcodes and the Sonoran Desert it inhabits. We will follow this spider from an egg to a full grown adult and discuss everything from their environment, growth rate, hunting, digestion, predators, and more!

Holy shit! This is neat! I wanted to do a documentary stile video for a long time and this gives me the motivation, good job!
Thanks my friend! I am glad you enjoyed it! It was a lot more difficult to make than my usual videos, but I am already working on another one! I look forward to seeing your style for this type of video!
Petco plz let Richards video inspire you to bring out a amazing documentary. Great work, hobbie can only be tankfull for all hard work people have to make videos to share love, care and wellfare for Tarantulas👏👏👏👌❤💕💗🤩😍🤩🙌🙌

getting to national geographic levels here good job man
Well said!
I’m impressed with the evolution of this channel!
Yes, it's awesome
The production value... I am impressed.
The sound
The visuals
I bet this took a lot of work, you should be proud, it turned out amazing.
Thanks a lot Aurora....it took a few weeks to put it together...I am glad to hear the hard work was worth it :)
@@tarantulacollective It really feels like you love this work :) congrats on this piece of work 🙌🏼
Dude, in my most eloquent wording: I love it.
Wow reminds me of Red Dead Redemption, I wish they added tarantulas to that game.
My boah Arthur
100% 😆
That was really something, great quality. You should do global tarantula documentaries when borders open and covids over!
that is the dream :)
I was actually just in Arizona! I wasn't able to find any tarantulas unfortunately as we weren't there for long, but I did find 100 scorpions around the house I was staying at! I really love this documentary style you've been doing to talk about different tarantulas in their natural habitats. I can't wait to see which one you do next!
Love the new videos. First class stuff. Great format.
Been in AZ 20 years and just saw my fourth one of these awesome spiders. I camp a lot so I get to see a lot of cool stuff!
Those holes scattered about in the desert are tarantula burrows!! Id probably try to tease them out sometime
your sound design is extremely well put together - I literally can hear the effort you put into this documentary. good work 💪
The next/new " David Attenborough " !
Great job 🖒🕷
lol...thank you
Insane work bro!
My favorite part was the sling walking around with the dingleberry.
Now this is content .
glad you liked it!
Video is amazing and I wouldn't even know the environment wasn't man made if you hadn't posted the progress.
Such a fantastic vid, I think this could be worth re-posting some day about Tarantulas in general. It's Discovery Channel quality, great work.
This is my native speciesand I adore them. Currently residing in my home state again, thank you so much for doing a video on these gentle beasties 💜
Wow, very impressive work ! The type of documentary we need to be shown to those who don't know any better and act out of fear. The sound effects were a bit much, barring that, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved the sweeping shots of the desert landscape.
Stay safe and thanks for sharing :)
Yeah. Very beautifully done. Just turn down the crunching chewing sounds.
The edit gave me chills!
Hoping to see more like this

@@anthonylenning1923 thanks! It isnt performing so well right now...hopefully it will pick up over the next few days. Might have to rework the formula on the next one.
I live in Tucson AZ and see these tarantulas sometimes i never knew what their names but I’m pretty sure their these guy’s now
Richard, whats that substrates you took those shots, and, can we keep them in it, or should we use regular sub? Thanks
It’s crazy how amazing you’re videos have gotten. I love watching them get better with every year thank you. Also my favorite Tarantula hands down.
I felt like I was watching a documentary! You did a fantastic job. Thank you for making this amazing looking and informative video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow! That was amazing! I can't imagine all of the work that had to go into making that video. What beautiful shots of all of those animals! And kudos on your set...it looked great!
Awesome video Richard!!! One of my favorite species. I’ve got 3 pretty girls that I absolutely love!!! I think people that are overlooking this species will be pleasantly surprised when they finally add them to their collection. The US has some wonderful, and beautiful tarantulas.
Such a badass video!
Incredible, Richard! You did such an amazing job!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
One of my favs. They’re so majestic and regal in their chillness. Beautifully made documentary that honors and dignifies these noble creatures and their iconic home landscape.
I really love these documentary style videos, great work
thanks a lot
@@tarantulacollective honestly, I have to thank you, Richard! Your channel restarted my long forgotten interest in tarantulas, made the GBB to my personal favorite, made me get one myself and brought me through this pandemic. It was a hard time, but especially tarantula tuesday made it a little bit brighter and gave something to be hyped to
You already know what I think. 🤘😅 Keep up the good work!
Thanks! Will do buddy. I appreciate the feedback!
@@tarantulacollective anytime!
I really like tarantulas and would love to keep them someday but can't in my current living situation, so these documentary kinds of videos are really cool!! Good job!
I'd binge watch this as a docuseries
I just got my first ever tarantula. It's Arizona Blonde spiderling, I've been watching your videos for the past week just consuming all this knowledge and I really appreciate how much work you put into your videos. I have learned a lot and I am excited to raise my tarantula. Thanks a lot my man.
Outstanding ! Thank you !
You are welcome! Thank YOU for taking the time to watch!
well done! loved the munching sound effects! LOL!
Damn what a beauty of documentary. Great work you´ve done there! I´d love to see more videos like that.
I hope to make many more if people respond well to this one :)
This video is stunning, you did a great job! So amazing! oh... btw... the T was amazing as well :)
Thanks so much...I am glad you enjoyed it! I will let her know you said she was amazing :)
Wow I really enjoyed this vid Richard seeing the T in its natural habitat what a gorgeous T, very informative and well shot ...
I can't wait to get one of these into my collection!
I love how that one beetle just walks casually by Le dead beetle like it’s an everyday thing. XD
They are Blue Death Feigning Beetles, so I'm sure they're pretty use to seeing each other rolling onto their backs and playing dead. Like "you're not fooling anyone Carl"
Awesome video style, very informative!!
When I lived in Nevada I used to go looking for Ts and scorpions but only ever found scorpions. There was supposed to be some kind of migration, (probably males searching out females) but I never got to find any. Love this video format awesome info.
Awww, sad now...Finally got an A.chalcodes (sub-adult) a couple weeks ago. After a week it suddenly molted (not one sign of pre-molt) lost a leg in the process and died that night. It was a bummer as I'd been saving for a while to afford it, but I was also really saddened when it passed.
The fact that you filmed those animals in your enclosures and I feel completely like it out in the desert, blows my mind! The cutscenes with the real desert shots, the music, everything is just so perfectly in place! You literally blew my mind! Bug ups maan, incredible work, keep em coming! 💪
Different kind of video than usual. Tarantulas in their natural environment. I like it.
What a great video!
No more rain... its drought hell now. I"m in the MOhave and its no fun anymore. All the green is gone and all the repugnicans are angry and ignorant. At least the Tarantulas are cool. Wonderful video, again, sir, thank you.
This is fabulous! I'm sure it was a ton of work, but I would love to see more of this sort of thing!
It was! but more to come
The fact that you made such a detailed and polished video about a spider is so heart warming. I have an Arizona blonde tarantula and I love her so much. I showed her this video and she really liked it. Jokes aside this video was so amazing all of the footage was so captivating and felt very professional.
Such a gorgeous and informative video. Love this Richard!
Have been following this channel a while and I love this video, I have family members who have literal phobias of arachnids and reptiles, I wish they had been presented media like this during more formative years! I try hard to change their opinions, but just seeing a picture of a spider causes them to have Nightmares about my safety. I wish people would understand, just because they're different, they aren't monsters 😔 really love how this shows how they live in their natural habitat , Helps one know exactly how the ideal set up would look.
Truly amazing... nice job.
What an awesome film ,one of my favourite Ts you smashed it out the park
very cool...glad you enjoyed it!
such an incredible video! love this channel
Thanks so much!!
Felt like i was watching something off discovery tbh LMAO AMAZING WORK!
I love this video format, keep the great work :D
Glad you enjoy it!
I live in Arizona and I love the desert. It has such beauty that I feel many people dismiss. Thank you for posting this. I love tarantulas and animals and it should be respected. I loved this!
This tarantula is awesome gentle. I went to Sedona to visit my sister. And I went hiking and saw one. I went over put my hand down and she climbed right up. I had her all day camping by her burrow. Fell asleep with her on my chest were she stayed all night. Next morning I caught some bugs and fed her then she went back into her burrow and we said goodbye. What a cool animal.
My sling has molted 1 time this entire year and barley grew lol..... awesome video Richard! Almost a mini nature documentary ❤️🕷️ great work
Awwww... such a beautifully done overview of the Blonde. I have a personal affinity since this species is the one I handled, wild, for the first time. Yes, I recorded it. I was living in the mohave desert at the time and the T had a burrow next to our Water tank pipes. THank you so much sir, I love this so much.
The work that clearly went into this were so worth it Richard!! Fantastic Video, Bar set!!
My daughter and I often watch nature documentaries while eating dinner. We’re going to have to watch this!
Metro-Goldwyn-Stewart !!!!!!
Richard, you have truly outdone yourself here.
Epic.
Graphics,cinematography,sound bytes,depth,information, all superb.
I decided to set myself up right for your first video of this class.
Cold large glass of Yuengling lager in a frosted mug brewed right here in beautiful Pennsylvania, couple Tasty cakes and the hot Doritos.
Yesirreee !!!!
Sat down and worshipped your video.
Best thing I've done this summer so far.
One guy here said he was expecting Lee Marvin to show up.
I texted him whenever I hear Lee Marvin mentioned,I think of the scene in Cat Ballou where he's drunk to the bejesus,on his horse, and his horse is leaning against the General Store.
Great stuff Richard.
Uda man.
Steward! I cant find any fitting words. This is so beautiful!
, I have watched UA-cam and I have watched your channel for quite some time now. You were the one of the first channels that I actually subscribed to. I had to let you know what an amazing job you did on this documentary style video. It was absolutely beautiful and exciting to watch. Very informative and I like how you collaborated and put all the different different invertebrates, animals, reptiles, etc well focusing on the Arizona blonde from baby to adult I loved the scenic shots and I like how you followed the slings around and watch them grow up. Bravo well done amazing job you get a 10 out of 10. No one else could have done a better job you killed it! in a good way!!!!!! Thank you for all the hard work you do making your videos they have made me and my husband's lives a lot better getting to watch you in the evening before we go to sleep a couple times a week. Sometimes we review older videos and watch videos over again. We also watch him again with our kids later sometimes.
Thanks again for all your hard work. Please keep moving forward with everything you do you are quite amazing, very informative, I love all your tarantulas you have we have a few and would love to start breeding them when they're old enough. Sending lots of love from me Michele, my husband Bryan and our three kids Kira19yrs Dakota9rs, and Lina3yrs...........
Honestly this has been my favourite video you produced so far. I've been trying to collect "Begginner Species". So far I have:
B. Hamorii.
B. Boehmei.
T. Vegans.
T. Alpopilosom.
L. Parahybana.
A. Avicularia.
And since you releases you're new video styles, I have Desperately been after a G.B.B and an Arizona Blonde.
Really great work. :D
Where's do you get your tranchulas
Richard that was insane , it was so awesome , lucys arizona blonde is soo tiny , and it is amazing to see what she will become, the editing , the camera skills and the narration was incredible and I hope you do more species videos like this , you legend
Amazing! This is a bloody documentary Richard! You should send this to a nature tv channel and I can’t believe you’ve put this content on UA-cam for free! You need paying for this kind of film work! You even did sound effects for Christ’s sake! Please send this to the discovery channel they should feature it for you!! Well done you clever clogs! 👍🏻
Wow, thank you!
Awesome job! Love the new version of this channel :)
This video has better production and is more informative than any tarantula documentaries I've seen on TV.
Thanks Tom

Great video Richard!
First class work. Loved the production quality and content.
Great job Bro! I really enjoyed that!
Well worth the wait, Richard. Bravo! You did exceptional work with landscaping for this video. I bet it took a lot of time setting that up, using other creatures to present the dangers of the southwest deserts.
I grew up in the Four Corners area and still have family there on and off the Reservation. I dont know if you have ever been in deserts of the southwest, but if you ever need a guide to show you around I volunteer! 😆 🤣
Beautiful video. Made me home sick.
This is such a cool video. Very well documented and filmed.
And of course now I love the Arizona Blonde even more.
Absolutely an amazing video. I appreciate the work you put into making this, and I hope to see more natural history and habitat videos like this.
Super awesome video!
We need more of these! Incredible!
Brilliant video keep up the excellent work
Wow, this was incredibly informative AND a relaxing experience. Beautiful production.
