- We take what Jeep say's is the most capable Wrangler it's ever produced and see if the Rubicon model lives up to its predecessors in our 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon off-road review.
Bigger windows, 3rd Gen Dana 44 Axles, electric-over hydraulic steering, improved suspension, high-line fenders, and so much more!
One of the best vehicle reviews I have watched on UA-cam. Fantastic audio, crystal clear video, seamless transitions, and the icing on the cake: the clarity and confidence in Ali’s voice. Keep it up!
Erik Francin and real off road!
Almost BBC quality production! Would never own a Jeep, more of a pickup guy, but I do deeply respect the capability of these vehicles and the spirit of those who drive them!
I’m definitely a Toyota guy but love all off-roaders and from the looks of it and the ones I’ve seen Jeep did a great job with the JL. It’s cool to see manufacturers starting to give vehicles the tools they need to do proper off-roading from the factory again. Also, shoutout on the footage from Uwharrie national Forest!
lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
From the dealer to off road king...gotta love that. Those new headlights are sweet.
Hands down best review I’ve found on UA-cam for 2dr rubicon review in the JL series, thank you!
Thank you!
Off-rode review starts at 6:17
3:23 jeep wave.. respect (OIIIIIIIO)
Proper review, especially since up to this day, I don't see any 2 door rubicon review outside the press event.
That's because it was only four door production. Two door production only started last month
One of the highest video quality Wrangler reviews I've seen. Fantastic camera work and very informative. Only thing I would suggest is to relax more when recording the narration because sometimes you speed up or rush to the end of your sentence. Still earned my sub!
Great review one of the best I have seen going over all the changes to the JL...Nicely done!
dieses Video ist das beste was ich bis jetzt gesehen habe. dir test ist sehr gut gemacht...
Loved this review. No false information. Real offroading showed but like you said still considering it's a stock Wrangler. Totally agree on the Locker 4Low Situation. Bit drifting fun with rear locker engaged in the sand would be fun, maybe somebody can reprogram this. Nicely speced out test car. 2door Rubicon with a manual are way too rare but the purest way of jeeping.
I recognized Uwharrie and Fort Fisher ! I was there last year with my JK, now I have a new JL , and can't wait to go there !
JL 2 doors looks so good wow!
Nice Uwharrie and Carolina beach nice job Ali!
Great review man! Amazing footage
Where did you do the test drives? Would love to check out some of those trails and the beach
Daniel trail just down the road 😁👍
You said it! The most capable SUV out of the box on the planet!! Period!!
( plane, NOT planet )
Yall tested at uwharrie. Daniel trail and dickey bell were he two main trails in this video. Nice
With a black and gray dash, console and doors, those tan seats look out of place. Nice Jeep, but I'd rather have seats that actually match.
the reason I'm interested in the jeep, is because i just got a 1/48 scale pullback of it in dark grey and it has full black wheels
i've heard so many complaints about the pricing, but look at what you're getting. Maybe you could get a cheaper Jeep, but how much more money would you have to put into it to make it this comfortable as a daily and still be this capable off road. I think considering how well-mannered it is on the road and how badass it is on the trail, $50 actually seems pretty doable
Excellent perspective.
It is tough to swallow, but you'd be hard pressed to match the Rubicon by building a lesser model, AND the Rubi carries full warranty. An amazing machine
It's expensive, but the price does seem to reflect all the features and its performance. The cheaper option is to wait for a used one in a few years.
I agree; but it makes buying it as a "toy" like many people purchased the jK as, a little more of a stretch ...
Ali, you just got a new subscriber great video!
Beautiful Jeep ❤️
Great review, and amazing video. Cool to see y’all at Uwharrie and other places around NC
What is the color of the specific rubicon?
huge jeep guy and i hope in the future i can get one but i am 17 right now and i don't need to put $43,000 into a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon ((price adjusted for 2020 pricing (but just guessing)))
I Have a wrangler but wanna knw the music playedat the start of video. Could any one name that music to me???
Love the drone footage. What trail (mountain location) was this filmed at?
Thank you. It was Uwharrie National Forest.
when is the sahara jeep coming to australia
waiting on new jeep jl in australia any info PLEASE
Is this all filmed in NC? I love how beautiful the state of North Carolina is! Lived here the last 18 years of my life and go to college at UNCC
Yes. All shot in NC by our Senior Off-Road Editor Ali Mansour.
Can somebody please let me know what is the background music... please
Great review!
What's the color of this Rubicon?
Which color is that Jeep? Granite Grey or Rhino?
Great 👍 review. Waiting for the Eco-Diesel coming out next year, hopefully
And to think, some people would still rather pay over $100K for a basic Defender D90. Heck I'm a Land Rover kinda guy myself.... but I'd much rather have one of these over a Defender.
Ah that's probably why they're not so expensive where you are.... they aren't imports. Outside of Europe and especially the UK they are astronomically expensive. A plain new D90 is typically around $100K US, and a new 110 can easily fetch $150K to $200K lol. It's bonkers.
Have a look on a site called dubizzle.com and see what the Middle East has on offer. They are still getting "new" Defenders on their factory showroom floors. No idea how, resto mods maybe? The prices are pure insanity.
Very jealous of your Adventure 100 :)
Yeah the Patrol is a beast haha. Cool vehicle though for sure. My 2012 LR4 is a tank as well, roughly the same curb weight as a Patrol.
I can't wait for the release of the Jeep Wrangler pick-up truck :)
Can you say chipped fenders and grill?
Great looking loads of appeal. Thumbs up.
Offroader supreme is what the Wrangler Rubicon is, but one weakness is a great one, it is not for towing, one reason Chevy could sell Blazer Zr2, K5 Blazer, and S10 Blazer.
camera guys are awesome
It is so stupid for Toyota to stop making FJ cruiser. It would be a great competitor to the Wrangler. Now Jeep can ask for whatever price they want.
hayabusa sun You wish the FJ Cruiser would’ve been a great competitor. Funny joke buddy.
tnucity welsh It’s the same thing as saying the Ford Ranger would be a good competitor. The Ranger isn’t a good competitor to the Wrangler when it comes to off-road capabilities and options. Therefore the Bronco wouldn’t either because it’s the same thing as the Ranger, it’s just an enclosed pick up.
Nice Rubicon . Nice video 👍
Yes it is expensive but with how much tech you get and how comfortable they have become you can easily daily drive it. The older wranglers are rough and tough and uncomfortable and they throw you around and don't drive well which meant you would probably have it as a weekend truck and not put much miles on it.
I have a 1997 Jeep TJ, stock seat and simply putting after market shocks and tires made it a lot better. I daily it with no complaints. Most people need to stop wanting to be comfortable and just come to realize it's a Jeep it's not bulit to be comfortable.
@@colbycollins6608 yeah but for the price it's good to see the comfort aspect and off-road prowest come together in one vehicle.
Question, what trail is that at 1:03?
That's the Daniel trail in Uwharrie National Forest.
@@DrivingLine thanks, that's the one i was told to stay away from in my stock Rubicon lol.
Крутой обзор, особенно качественные съёмки с квадрокоптер на фоне пейзажа
So would a manual transmission be better for off road use?
An automatic transmission makes many aspects of going off-road easier, so for that reason, it gets the edge up on the manual. However, the manual has a certain "fun" element to it. If you're going to spend most of your off-road time rock crawling, the automatic is the better fit. For almost every other type of wheeling, having the ability to pick your gear when you want it is going to be beneficial.
Looks like you guys like to go off-road at a couple enjoyable places that I like too.
I recognized the trails as well. I have many memories there
The trails are Uwharrie National Forest, NC.
Good Review .
Is there a diesel available in the Rubicon?
Not yet, but we are told it is coming.
@@DrivingLine We have been told that for the past 10 years in Australia. Toyota has the market sewn up with the Defender in retirement and no diesel Rubicon.
Jeep wave at 3:24
Those off-road slo-mo's.
You guys work near Uwharrie?
Yes. Our Senior Off-Road Editor Ali Mansour lives in North Carolina.
Im totally dissapointed the differentials cannot be locked in high range. Thats absolutely obsurd to me. What about snow and loose sand and mud where higher wheel speed is important?
Dominic Mariani I said the same thing.... :( the ZR2 Colorado will engage the rear locker in 2hi and 4hi. I own gmc and chevys but I love Jeep. Just wish they would fix that bug!
How does this compare to the 4 runner?
Rubicon is more offroad-worthy by a wide margin. It has better equipment (like solid front axle, front locking differential and sway bar disconnect). The angles are better, particularly breakover for the two-door Rubicon. The Jeep's doors are still removable for superior visibility when crawling. Aftermarket is more robust, and modifications are easier for the Jeep.
4Runner TRD trims are quite capable offroad, but its relative strengths are onroad. It handles better thanks to the front independent suspension. The fixed roof is quieter and better for vehicle security. Toyota ATS works better in snow and ice than Jeep traction control. The 4Runner has more useable space, and the tow rating is superior (5,000lbs to 3,500lbs). Toyotas tend to be more reliable, and the 4.0L 1GR-FE is superior to the 3.6L Pentastar for truck like performance and longevity.
95% of buyers should probably get a 4Runner TRD, but neither vehicle is practical so buy what you want.
Aaron P thanks alot for the response. I'm am really trying to make a solid decision. I'm leaning towards the more reliable option
Hey, what beach is that at 2:30 ?
The Fort Fisher OHV area in North Carolina.
Great review! Thanks
Great review
I can’t decide on the auto vs manual transmission on this one for off-roading only about once a month
Manual is always better for off road driving. Take a manual vehicle and go and do some driving courses. Automatics are great for those that do not want to learn to drive.
How big is that wheel
Stock 17 and 285s. Everything was just as it comes from the factory.
Nice. 6spd too.
Liberty Stuff'n'Things Reviews Except it lost 60 lb ft of torque rating over the outgoing trans. That sucks.
Really?? First I've heard of that. I image Jeep is going to eventually phase out the manuals, like everyone else has.
Where did you find this stat? I've looked out of curiosity and can't find it. Thanks in advance!
Sure thing. The JK uses the W5A580 trans which is rated at 580 Nm or 428 ft lbs of torque. It's a beast. The new 8 speed is the 850RE which is rated at 500 Nm or 368 ft lbs. That's quite a drop unfortunately. It could've been worse, they were originally considering the 845RE which is rate at 450 NM or 331 ft lbs.
OHH. I thought you were talking about the 6spd manual in the JL loosing torque, not the automatic. Ram does this in the Cummins with the G56 manuals. They derate them due to the clutch and transmission housing.
I hated it at first...but its growing on me.
Love the new JL ! Only thing I know I would break is those turn signals
Want with the 2.0 turbo in rubicon and a 6speed.
Start stop doesn't save any gas. It uses MORE. Hopefully aftermarket tuners and programers will come with a feature to disable that bullshit.
BEST SUV - u can take offroad , currently
We, the poor folk, will stick to wheeling our XJs thank you very much! Under $5K for the rig and all the goodies too...
Thks.
I have a Toyota FJ Cruiser with 4x4 diff lock and Atrac... but i love this Jeep. Since Toyota gave up its off road vehicle in my opinion.I will probably get a nice Jeep 2 door. OllllllllO
Jeep is good in case of wrangler but Toyota is great
To bad they screwed up the launch for the JL. Just finished making the 4 doors, 2 months late and if you want a two door as of 5/21/2018, its a 12 wk wait. Wtf? I cancelled my JL Rubicon order. By the time you get a 2018 the 2019's should be coming out. Soo disappointed!!
💪
You must have blinders on when looking at the JL vs the JK.... Lot's of obvious differences on the exterior. Open your eyes.
I agree that JL is nice looking vehicle, but not as good as mine 😝
i need one unit n i need 1 million usd soon
Was this Uwharrie? Good to see someone beating a little bit on a JL. Hammer than 50k bitch.
Yes. Great eye. Some of this was shot there.
Very y very nice but a real off road always will be simple. I imagine that in mud Electronic fáil
High there neighbor.
Mall rated?
There's way to much electronics for my taste. I'll stick with my 2004 TJ.
I thought this video was an off-road review?
GOD🎥👍
Great car, but not so practical as it has a poor payload! That's why land cruiser and g class will always be more desirable - they are so much more practical and can tow

$47K
The 2003 Rubicon cost half that much. Very sad what Jeep has become.
It’s funny to read all of the idiotic comments about the predictions of breakage of certain parts - especially as all of the predictions are WRONG!!! LOL!
my twitter @jamesbondo9 n @BERASKENCUR12
Reliability still sucks i guess.
n3m3sis2 I have owned 3 wranglers before and they are all very reliable. So not sure where you got your information?
Jimmy Tong UA-cam
Most reliability issues are from the wrangler being the most abused vehicle sold in the market place.... most buyers buy them for offroad.......
A great vehicle but so over priced.
I'M TIRED OF EVERYONE SHOWING THE RUBICON. SHOW THE OTHER WRANGLERS THE SPORT AN THE SAHARA. THE OTHERS ARE JUST PAINT AN TRIM. THEY SPORT IS WAY BETTER THAN THE RUBICON. IT'S SIMPLER AN WILL DO THE JOB. WE'RE NOT ALL CRAWLING OVER ROCKS. I'LL TAKE A JEEP SPORT ANY DAY WITH A/C. SIMPLE IS BETTER.
RUGGED DUDE have you had both ? And wheeled both ?
I ask because I have and you're incorrect / outside of lockers and the ease of electronic sway bar disconnects which isn't required but makes life easier ... they come with 4.10 gearing allowing you to put bigger tires on which anyone who goes off-road eventually does !
They also come with sliders, not the best but something right from the factory ...
Unless you are extremely wealthy or enjoy debt or are very mechanically inclined the rubicon is the cost effective way to go
Тот же ёбаный УАЗ но чуть лучше качеством и конским ценником
UREUREUREUREUREUREUREUREUREUREUREUREURE
It looks nice, but wait till stuff starts breaking!! Especially that stupid tablet/infotainment crap with integrated climate controls, FAIL!!💩
99.8 % of these will only see paved roads and shopping malls.
Oh look it's the salty guy that can't afford one with the super original mall crawler comment.
Jeep is not a SUV!
Slow down, enunciate each word.
Great Review!
