Sorry that y’all had issues with your Jeep. My 2019 JLU just passed 116k miles and the only two major expenses were tires and batteries. My Jeep has been awesome to drive and I have driven it all over the country. 60% of my miles have been off roading and it’s still running strong.
@@francohellington4651I’m not sure if it’s people just down talking them or people have never owned one but the 3.6 pen star V6 they use in the Jeep (amongst other Chrysler products) is a GREAT engine. My wife has the v6 in her truck and I have the 5.7 hemi in mine and aside from the low end power the V6 does great. She’s clocked 150k miles on her truck with NO ISSUE. She sits with her AC on in the summer and heat in the winter. Doesn’t get stuck. Still gets 22 MGP. My old car had the 3.6 and it lasted 145k before I sold it with no issues at all. 3.6 is a great engine. Change your oil on time
Lots of complaints about the reliability but don’t forget that’s 100,000 HARD miles! Lots of off road and about 20 different drivers, driving it like they stole it because it is not their personnal vehicule. In my book that Jeep has been stelar in reliability.
Tbh I have a 13 Wrangler and been thinking about selling for a Toyota. With how unreliable it is why on earth would I want to drive it to the middle of nowhere just for it to break down.
I've had one FJ Cruiser and 2 4Runner - the last one was a 2019 I drive a 21 Jeep Wrangler unlimited and it's been 2 years- nothing major just a clutch assembly recall. 4runner has better road manners but I can't say one is better than the other. 4Runner used to chew through brakes in a ridiculous manner- the Jeep has been merciful in that department
These videos make great headline titles but no matter what the vehicle is and it's mechanical it's going to require routine maintenance and upkeep. Personally I'll take my Jeep over anything new today. If you get underneath any new vehicles today and want quick easy access to components your dealing with shields and covers with tons of plastic fasteners. If you mod your Jeep it'll decrease the reliability even more. I can't say my Jeep JL that I owned for 4 years now has been less reliable than my 4 runner.
Great video! I was able to overcome several of the cons mentioned in the video with some light DIY. Loose steering -> tighten steering box, or upgrade to the new metal one. Loud cabin -> Hot head headliner (cabin is around low 70 DB now on the 101). Uncomfortable seating position -> desert does it "seat slammer". Visor repair -> $15 on the jungle site. Ghost touches, 2 hour DIY with some light cursing. What I'm trying to say, which I think the video failed to highlight, is that these are very DIY-able cars. There is an incredible community of owners, vendors, and products that SHOULD be calculated in the ownership experience.
Thank you for your comment I was taking the cost of ownership into consideration but you mentioned a lot of diy capable items. I am looking to purchase a 2018 wrangler rubicon with about 70k miles would you recommend ?
I have a 2018 wrangler JLU and I'm about to pass 80,000 miles and have not had a single issue other than the passenger visor coming loose and a cracked windshield and I've never taken it to the dealership. I've owned it for about 50,000 of those miles and have used it offroad a ton.
Glad this Jeep has been with Edmunds for so long. A Wrangler is definitely an emotional buy and not a logical one. But the emotions the Jeep brings are so valuable that it outweighs the logic of car ownership.. #ItsaJeepthing
Something tells me that Bronco isn't gonna save them a dime on maintenance costs. Maybe a good chunk more. But it will definitely be more comfy on the road. If you want to save on costs and still have a capable vehicle, Toyota is the way.
The Wrangler prices in Aus has jumped by more than 40% in the past few years, now costing almost as much as a top end Landcruiser Prado due to price set by Jeep US. I previously had a 2017 Wrangler and it didn't get too much off roading in it. Despite this, in 4 years, 45,000 miles, under warranty the front suspension almost fell out which was fixed however, they couldn't address the leaking the roof. The electronic aids would periodically cut out on light off road duty which is when you need them. The ABS once suddenly failed when emergency breaking on gravel when I was trying to avoid hitting a roo; the Jeep up ended sliding on a diagonal even though I was driving straight i.e. I did not try manoeuvre around the animal (to avoid more disastrous scenarios such as roll or driving through heavy bush with no visibility). I gave up when the rear main oil seal failed outside of warranty at that 45,000 mile mark requiring a transmission out job. At some point you have to cut your losses before burying yourself too deep.
@@videowsatcher Wow, that's definitely not cool. I have a Wrangler 4XE and have done some mellow offroading in it. Battery HVac went bad, which is common, but everything else is good, so far, around 20k miles. But man, Jeep deserves absolutely no love from you after all you've been through. May a Toyota be in your future, my friend.
I too, am eager to see how much that Bronco sets them back. Jeep may mean Just Empty Every Pocket - but what's Bronco? Big Repairs Often Needing Cash Overhaul?
I have a hard time believing that a 4Runner would be any more reliable. Sounds like it needed only a couple of unscheduled repairs in 100,000 hard miles. I don't count the windshields and tires, that's normal maintenance.
@Leewilly440 you can definitely feel the changes in the 2024! Going to go down as one of the best jeeps ever made with a gasoline engine and all the other major updates with no electrification!

I've bought my JLUR at the same time march 2018 and I have 71xxx miles on it so far. It's been a blast owning it, so many fun memories and adventures I've had with it, for me it's an amazing daily driver, it has so much character and its pretty rugged, it makes even driving to work fun, I love driving it through trails and even streets, you can jump curbs, hit huge pot holes, run over stuff, it can go any where, I know it's not for everyone especially the typical prius or tesla owner wouldn't be into it. It's beautiful inside and out, I've put a 2 inch lift, steel bumpers, 35 inch tires and other mods, it's badass it's like a mini tank/monster truck I also bought the lifetime mopar warranty I've replaced a radiator, oil leak, rear glass defroster, driver heated seat stopped working, replaced radio because the screen started bubbling, fixed the visor too. The warranty covered everything. It's not that loud inside especially with MT tires and a lift, they sound like pansies. I plan on keeping it forever, it's a great vehicle for off and on road.
I don’t think any of those maintenance issues are noteworthy. Seems like it’s been a great 4x4, especially for a first model year of the JL. I’ve owned 3 JL’s (currently in a 2024 4xe), and there’s nothing like them. It’s a trade off but for me well worth it.
Also have a 2018. No where near any issues like that have been described. All dealer maintenance at their high service prices inflated the repair costs outside of warranty for sure.
If this was a toyota, and it did this well after a 100k miles of abuse they would have called it bulletproof reliable and rightfully so. But because it was Jeep, they have to play up the few problems it had. If I owned a vehicle and this was all the trouble it gave me after all this off roading. I would not be complaining. Love the video over all and happy you guys torture tested this vehicle for this long. I will be shock if the bronco can do what this Jeep did for as long as this Jeep did and less of a cost.
Totally agree. It's weird how an alternator and tires on a Jeep is a major repair but on a Toyota, "other than an alternator and a couple of sets of tires, it's been amazingly reliable."
Jeep is not reliable period. Capable as hell, but some things that will need to be replaced are just poorly made and designed. Shocks, tires, those things are going to need replaced on any vehicle. Jeeps just fail in general, everywhere.

This jeep is not failure, I used to work for Chrysler and I have worked in independent shops jeeps are average or above in the case of reliability. But I would highly rate them in the durability.
The dual battery start stop system on your particular Wrangler was extremely problematic, it was also a first year production model. My particular Wrangler 392 doesn’t have such a complicated system, so hopefully it won’t suffer from the same issues. I absolutely love the fact you kept it in your fleet for 100,000 miles. Until another manufacturer can produce something as capable and fun to drive as a 392 Wrangler, I see no reason to want anything else.
You thought repair costs were bad with the jeep? Oh man, get ready for lack of ford quality control! Great video tho guys…the jeep is definitely a lifestyle/purpose built vehicle.
I'm glad I watched this video. I was considering the 2018 Wrangler but now I'm not so sure. Since good reliability is important for me I may think about a 4Runner instead. But Jeeps can go just about anywhere and sure look awesome. In my youth I owned a 1948 CJ2A jeep, a civilian version of WWII jeeps. It was crude and not practical for every day driving, but was a blast to drive off-road.
We’ll soon your doors will start to rot out. The quality of those gladiators is god awful. Can’t even do real truck things or hood a candle to ford, Chevy and dodge trucks. It’s just a niche vehicle like avalanches and the caddies modeled after them. Jeep died after the 4.0 was discontinued
@@tylerf5083 I don’t need a farm vehicle to haul manure. I just need to go off-road and get 25mpg on the highway. There’s nothing else on the market that can do that. I’m happy with it so far.
I'm going to hang on to my 16 for now. It's paid for and has only had to have a new thermostat and housing unit. I did test drive a 2023 Wrangler and Ford Bronco, knowing that I wouldn't buy an IFS vehicle the just wanted to check it out.
Its funny because if you have a JK wrangler with the factory touch screen head unit. There is a literally a backup camera plug in the back of it. You have to buy a backup camera, programmer, and enable the backup camera (and the day running lights if you want as well). But it literally works the same as any other factory backup camera. On the factory hardware.
Wow I'm actually impressed with the JL. You guys made it sound like it was unreliable and it really wasn't. Twice getting towed in 100k hard miles, is pretty good really. And all the items you listed that needed fixing, again most of them were wear and tear items that would normally need repair. Made such a big deal over tailgate glass struts, like $30 to replace. The visor, easy replacement. They're actually not needed on the JLs due to narrow windscreen unless you're really short. I understand it's not the best riding on road, but for the most part I'm impressed with the JLs run.
this is going to come off as bragging but I only mention it because I feel it’s relevant to my opinion. I have the financial wherewithal to buy any personal vehicle I want. Multiple at a time if so desired and i own a solar company with nearly 200 vehicles in the fleet. My diesel gladiator is easily my favorite vehicle I have ever owned. I bought a “lowly” sport because on delivery day I picked it up and drove it 525 miles (on a single tank of fuel) to one of the highest regarded off road shops in America where it spent a couple weeks getting the works. 1 ton truck axles & driveshafts 2.5 T aluminum steering system 4.56 gears, lockers and 40” tires Custom suspension with longer links and triple bypass shocks that look more like space x rockets than struts. Smooth flat aluminum belly skid About 200lbs of exhaust lightening + tuning Couple small roll cage enhancements Sound system overhaul (including some ski boat style units in the bed) Full sound deadening for hard top, floor and replacement flooring system “Seat jackers” to fix the awkward seating position The last items + steering system fix all your complaints about the jeep. 60,000 miles later I have had exactly zero work done on it besides a new set of tires just recently and some maintenance work on suspension links. Oh and two windshields. Rocks hit em a lot. For $7 added to my insurance it covers replacements. The Jeep is easily my favorite vehicle of all time. It’s unbelievably capable off road. Cruises down the freeway at 80 with 1 finger on the wheel. Its quiet outside the 40s, comfortable and still gets 23 MILES TO THE GALLON. you guys should keep yours, do some mods to it and enjoy another 100 k worth of tires and windshields. I’ll soon be adding a 3 motor cybertruck and while I know there are things about it ill love more, NOTHING can remove the jeep from pole position in my heart. - MB
Edmunds team: thanks for the great report putting tires and other normal wear parts aside (those which any other similar vehicle would have needed too), how much was spent in repairs in this 5-6 years/ 100K miles...? thanks in advance
Moral of the story - always have AAA, pay $750 for the extended Mopar Max Care warranty (5yr/85K miles) and buy the windshield protective sheets - especially if you have Gorilla Glass.
The start and stop problem is not a electrical issue it's 9 out of 10 times just your auxiliary battery most people don't realize the jeep has 2 battery's and its easy to replace your self
Other than the alternator dying, I don’t understand what other electrical problems where there that costed $8k. I bet tires and windshields were a good chunk. Also, replacing an alternator must be relatively easy. Seems that it’s a great vehicle for DIYers
So here’s my issue with the calculations. You Personally cannot factor 2 sets of tires as a “maintenance” cost but rather a throw away item. Regardless of what car you own, you’re going to need 2-4 sets of tires in 100,000 miles. I’d personally remove the 4,000$ for the two sets out of that calculus. It’s like personally the same thing with oil for me.
Tires are maintenance, replacing the tires is a regular cost of maintenance of any vehicle on the road. Maintenance isn’t just things that break, it’s the cost of ownership of “maintaining” a vehicle. Same thing with oil changes, you have to change the oil, it’s nice to know how much oil changes are because it varies vehicle to vehicle. A diesel 2500 has a much higher oil change cost than a 1.3 liter econobox. Tires are varied too
Road noise thing is real. I had a 2011 JK 2 door with hardtop before. Now I have a 2020 JLU with hardtop. I can tell you that the JK was significantly more quite. I think it has to do with the hardtop - the glass is thinner and the hardtop material itself is lighter in JL
now it's prime for upgrades...private sale is easily low-mid 30s...don't get shafted w/a dealer trade-in........unless it's a ticking time bomb, let your camera crew hang onto it for several more years...also red is easy to spot in the brown wastelands...
Don’t listen to this, journalists embellish for a living. The Wrangler is a spot on vehicle. The re-gen in 2018 made it a very comfortable on and off road vehicle. Road noise is adequate and they are a tank. Reliability is awesome for a vehicle this capable that gets as beat on as they do.
Test Drove a Rubicon at Carmax and it was the most fun I've ever had but there were significant electeical problems and had to go straight to the service center. Would rent one but not necessarily buy or use every day
Just wait till the start replacing Tie Rods left and right and the steering rack all inherent problems with the Bronco...Don't get me wrong the Bronco is nice and might ride better but they are finicky when offroading.
I have 2020 red gladiator sport s tow max just turned 102,000 miles but i have a jeep gladiator group on Facebook I’ve seen two other twin red 2020 jeep gladiators sport s tow max had passed over 280,000 miles after the original transmission was replaced and still driving currently. My guess is he is getting close to 300k or over 300k miles
Funny, can steer my 2024 rubi with 1 finger, tight steering, louder than my previous SUV, but i can listen to the radio or bluetooth with no issue. 🤷🏻♂️
Basically the Wrangler is as reliable as any SUV foreign or domestic not named Toyota. Broncos are having serious issues, Chevrolet has had issues, don't get me started on Range Rover which are rolling disasters. Jeeps are either number 1 or 2 in resale value consistency for a reason. I've got 156k miles on my 2014 JK Polar edition, no issues other than replacing the alternator, an O2 sensor and a window modulator.
Ok i see all these people complaining about on road its so wierd maybe its just me but i have no complaints i can go 85 mph no problem my steering doesnt seem bad and i the noise isnt bad maybe because im mexican mexicans dont mind noise as much.
I still have my 08 JK that I bought new from the Jeep dealership and its pushing 90,000 miles. I would be damned if I let it go just because it reached 100,000 miles.
I'm blasting my music with the top down doors off whenever I drive never had any problem. I have a 23 2 door 3.6 6MT and I love driving it, doors off too down windows off. I do t know what these people are talking about. 🤗
2022 two door rubicon, 15 k miles and steering dampener blew out and I have crazy death wobble. Replacement are on months back order so i had to buy aftermarket and replace myself to save the ball joints
Jeeps are not designed to be the main family daily driver vehicle. Jeeps are niche vehicles. I have a JK because the early JL models have electrical and corrosion issues. I think Jeep has addressed those issues in the newer models.
I'd love to see a list of their maintenance and repair expenses. I'm sure Edmunds could do a whole video on getting screwed by dealerships for minor repairs and maintenance.
I've had zero issue on my JK!!! Had a recall on airbag wiring system but that's about it! It's been rock solid! The thermostat failed at 50K miles which is probably typical but is pathetic compared to my other German vehicles!!!
Wow, maybe you picked the wrong year (new gen) to use and abuse. My 2015 (bought 1 Aug 2014) and has 122K miles. I’ve replaced tires twice, water pump, and that’s it. I only paid $38K for my JKU. And yes, I 4-wheel it a bit…just not like you guys. How does it compare to other 4x4’s you’ve owned?
I own a 12 Rubicon and a 16 F150, the Jeep has had the following issues, 3 differential rebuilds, 1 drivers side head replacement, it ate 2 cams, the F150 is still waiting for its 1st trip to the service center, both have about 130k on them, oh and we built a house using the 150 as the mule, and drug a 10k trailer around Arizona and Colorado. You tell me.....
So you counted tires and oil changes? Thats pretty lame... thats general stuff and should not be counted... over half the money spent was on things that every vehicle has to do... it was a first gen one too, there is always bad stuff with first year vehicles. And actually they are great in the city as well as the woods, visibility is excellent. Thx for the review
I charge myself. …50 cents a mile on any vehicle I drive in my fleet and this consist of pavement driving. When I drive my JEEPS, Ford Raptor, ATVS/Side by Side etc 80 cents a mile in an off-road scenario.
I have only 7k on mine and already have rear lock transmission issues, and Chrysler will not have the part I need in 3 months!! Very disappointed @Chrysler

See the "cost to own" complaints I see for Wranglers I believe are kind of BS. Because NO ONE separates out the costs that result from the vehicle being OFF-ROADED! Well of course the damn thing is gonna break down more if you're taking it off-road. The OG Willy's "jeeps" had a reputation for being indestructable, but ask someone who actually WORKED on them at the time and they'll tell you about all of the things they had to fix on them constantly. But that was because they were being driven in literal war zones. So it's not exactly a fair analysis to compare it with cars that people DON'T go off-roading with.
Are you guys paid by Foreign companies I don't see any of these problems I don't understand why people always have to say good things and then they want to say bad things from many different Vehicles I've driven Foreign vehicles are the worst Jeep is the only one and Dodge is the only one that has cars that people want why all companies allow the cricket government tell them what they can do can't do people at the same time it cracks me up how the car companies only care about the computer world and vehicles that don't last very long they copy off each other

I have had the visor come down as well. The only thing that bothers me is the corrosion issues. I hope Jeep resolves that in future generations.

Pretty much everything that you would actually enjoy driving is an emotional buy. Logical choices are 5+ year old mid level Hondas or Toyotas.

23 Gladiator Mojave here 10k miles in. Don't regret the purchase one bit. The fun factor is just so big that it's hard to deny.

@@KevinWhite0x3f8our Bronco Badlands had Turbo and multiple sensors fail at 500 miles, took months to fix. Our Gladiator Rubicon has been flawless.

I have a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited. It has 100,000 on it. It’s 9 years old, my first Jeep and I still love it! Rides like it’s new. Awesome!
I've bought my JLUR at the same time march 2018 and I have 71xxx miles on it so far.
It's been a blast owning it, so many fun memories and adventures I've had with it, for me it's an amazing daily driver, it has so much character and its pretty rugged, it makes even driving to work fun, I love driving it through trails and even streets, you can jump curbs, hit huge pot holes, run over stuff, it can go any where, I know it's not for everyone especially the typical prius or tesla owner wouldn't be into it.
It's beautiful inside and out, I've put a 2 inch lift, steel bumpers, 35 inch tires and other mods, it's badass it's like a mini tank/monster truck
I also bought the lifetime mopar warranty
I've replaced a radiator, oil leak, rear glass defroster, driver heated seat stopped working, replaced radio because the screen started bubbling, fixed the visor too. The warranty covered everything.
It's not that loud inside especially with MT tires and a lift, they sound like pansies.
I plan on keeping it forever, it's a great vehicle for off and on road.

I don’t think any of those maintenance issues are noteworthy. Seems like it’s been a great 4x4, especially for a first model year of the JL. I’ve owned 3 JL’s (currently in a 2024 4xe), and there’s nothing like them. It’s a trade off but for me well worth it.
Yeah I especially cannot take into account the tires…. Like dude that’s normal wearable items on any vehicle.
You might want to check out the loose gizmo flapping around in your front right wheel well at 1:39 before long.
$24k for trade in is a steal! I just sold my 2017 JK in July for $35k
Also have a 2018. No where near any issues like that have been described. All dealer maintenance at their high service prices inflated the repair costs outside of warranty for sure.
If this was a toyota, and it did this well after a 100k miles of abuse they would have called it bulletproof reliable and rightfully so. But because it was Jeep, they have to play up the few problems it had. If I owned a vehicle and this was all the trouble it gave me after all this off roading. I would not be complaining.
Love the video over all and happy you guys torture tested this vehicle for this long.
I will be shock if the bronco can do what this Jeep did for as long as this Jeep did and less of a cost.
Totally agree. It's weird how an alternator and tires on a Jeep is a major repair but on a Toyota, "other than an alternator and a couple of sets of tires, it's been amazingly reliable."

Jeep is not reliable period. Capable as hell, but some things that will need to be replaced are just poorly made and designed. Shocks, tires, those things are going to need replaced on any vehicle. Jeeps just fail in general, everywhere.

This jeep is not failure, I used to work for Chrysler and I have worked in independent shops jeeps are average or above in the case of reliability. But I would highly rate them in the durability.

The dual battery start stop system on your particular Wrangler was extremely problematic, it was also a first year production model. My particular Wrangler 392 doesn’t have such a complicated system, so hopefully it won’t suffer from the same issues. I absolutely love the fact you kept it in your fleet for 100,000 miles. Until another manufacturer can produce something as capable and fun to drive as a 392 Wrangler, I see no reason to want anything else.
The 4xe Wrangler also doesn't use the dual battery start/stop system. Single 12v battery.

My 2019 rubicon has 90k miles with only one repair, a thermostat. Jeep has been a tank and still enjoying it.

for me I may think about a 4Runner instead. But Jeeps can go just about anywhere and sure look awesome. In my youth I owned
a 1948 CJ2A jeep, a civilian version of WWII jeeps. It was crude and not practical for every day driving, but was a blast to drive
off-road.
Weird. I'm up to 50k miles on my Diesel Gladiator and had zero problems. Haven't had any of the issues mentioned in this video.
This is the first model year of a brand new model, so I think it's expected you're gonna have more issues than subsequent model years.

We’ll soon your doors will start to rot out. The quality of those gladiators is god awful. Can’t even do real truck things or hood a candle to ford, Chevy and dodge trucks. It’s just a niche vehicle like avalanches and the caddies modeled after them. Jeep died after the 4.0 was discontinued

I'm going to hang on to my 16 for now. It's paid for and has only had to have a new thermostat and housing unit. I did test drive a 2023 Wrangler and Ford Bronco, knowing that I wouldn't buy an IFS vehicle the just wanted to check it out.

Great review, worth noting that 2018 was the first year of the JL, and I wonder if some of these issues have been addressed in the later model years.
Its funny because if you have a JK wrangler with the factory touch screen head unit. There is a literally a backup camera plug in the back of it. You have to buy a backup camera, programmer, and enable the backup camera (and the day running lights if you want as well). But it literally works the same as any other factory backup camera. On the factory hardware.
Wow I'm actually impressed with the JL. You guys made it sound like it was unreliable and it really wasn't. Twice getting towed in 100k hard miles, is pretty good really. And all the items you listed that needed fixing, again most of them were wear and tear items that would normally need repair. Made such a big deal over tailgate glass struts, like $30 to replace. The visor, easy replacement. They're actually not needed on the JLs due to narrow windscreen unless you're really short. I understand it's not the best riding on road, but for the most part I'm impressed with the JLs run.
I get that, for consistency, they need to quote dealership numbers, but if be curious what they'd be able to get with a private sale.
this is going to come off as bragging but I only mention it because I feel it’s relevant to my opinion.
I have the financial wherewithal to buy any personal vehicle I want. Multiple at a time if so desired and i own a solar company with nearly 200 vehicles in the fleet.
My diesel gladiator is easily my favorite vehicle I have ever owned. I bought a “lowly” sport because on delivery day I picked it up and drove it 525 miles (on a single tank of fuel) to one of the highest regarded off road shops in America where it spent a couple weeks getting the works.

Custom suspension with longer links and triple bypass shocks that look more like space x rockets than struts.

Full sound deadening for hard top, floor and replacement flooring system
“Seat jackers” to fix the awkward seating position
The last items + steering system fix all your complaints about the jeep.
60,000 miles later I have had exactly zero work done on it besides a new set of tires just recently and some maintenance work on suspension links. Oh and two windshields. Rocks hit em a lot. For $7 added to my insurance it covers replacements.
The Jeep is easily my favorite vehicle of all time. It’s unbelievably capable off road. Cruises down the freeway at 80 with 1 finger on the wheel. Its quiet outside the 40s, comfortable and still gets 23 MILES TO THE GALLON.
you guys should keep yours, do some mods to it and enjoy another 100 k worth of tires and windshields.
I’ll soon be adding a 3 motor cybertruck and while I know there are things about it ill love more, NOTHING can remove the jeep from pole position in my heart.

I have a 2016, no problem either.
Moral of the story - always have AAA, pay $750 for the extended Mopar Max Care warranty (5yr/85K miles) and buy the windshield protective sheets - especially if you have Gorilla Glass.

The start and stop problem is not a electrical issue it's 9 out of 10 times just your auxiliary battery most people don't realize the jeep has 2 battery's and its easy to replace your self
Other than the alternator dying, I don’t understand what other electrical problems where there that costed $8k. I bet tires and windshields were a good chunk. Also, replacing an alternator must be relatively easy. Seems that it’s a great vehicle for DIYers

Personally cannot factor 2 sets of tires as a “maintenance” cost but rather a throw away item. Regardless of what car you own, you’re going to need 2-4 sets of tires in 100,000 miles. I’d personally remove the 4,000$ for the two sets out of that calculus. It’s like personally the same thing with oil for me.
Tires are maintenance, replacing the tires is a regular cost of maintenance of any vehicle on the road. Maintenance isn’t just things that break, it’s the cost of ownership of “maintaining” a vehicle. Same thing with oil changes, you have to change the oil, it’s nice to know how much oil changes are because it varies vehicle to vehicle. A diesel 2500 has a much higher oil change cost than a 1.3 liter econobox. Tires are varied too
Road noise thing is real. I had a 2011 JK 2 door with hardtop before. Now I have a 2020 JLU with hardtop. I can tell you that the JK was significantly more quite. I think it has to do with the hardtop - the glass is thinner and the hardtop material itself is lighter in JL

now it's prime for upgrades...private sale is easily low-mid 30s...don't get shafted w/a dealer trade-in........unless it's a ticking time bomb, let your camera crew hang onto it for several more years...also red is easy to spot in the brown wastelands...
Don’t listen to this, journalists embellish for a living. The Wrangler is a spot on vehicle. The re-gen in 2018 made it a very comfortable on and off road vehicle. Road noise is adequate and they are a tank. Reliability is awesome for a vehicle this capable that gets as beat on as they do.
Test Drove a Rubicon at Carmax and it was the most fun I've ever had but there were significant electeical problems and had to go straight to the service center. Would rent one but not necessarily buy or use every day

Just wait till the start replacing Tie Rods left and right and the steering rack all inherent problems with the Bronco...Don't get me wrong the Bronco is nice and might ride better but they are finicky when offroading.

I have 2020 red gladiator sport s tow max just turned 102,000 miles but i have a jeep gladiator group on Facebook I’ve seen two other twin red 2020 jeep gladiators sport s tow max had passed over 280,000 miles after the original transmission was replaced and still driving currently. My guess is he is getting close to 300k or over 300k miles

Even though my 2009 2wd tacoma gets stuck sometimes in the desert at least I know the interior and the radio are it’s only weak points.

Funny, can steer my 2024 rubi with 1 finger, tight steering, louder than my previous SUV, but i can listen to the radio or bluetooth with no issue. 🤷🏻♂️
Basically the Wrangler is as reliable as any SUV foreign or domestic not named Toyota. Broncos are having serious issues, Chevrolet has had issues, don't get me started on Range Rover which are rolling disasters. Jeeps are either number 1 or 2 in resale value consistency for a reason. I've got 156k miles on my 2014 JK Polar edition, no issues other than replacing the alternator, an O2 sensor and a window modulator.
Ok i see all these people complaining about on road its so wierd maybe its just me but i have no complaints i can go 85 mph no problem my steering doesnt seem bad and i the noise isnt bad maybe because im mexican mexicans dont mind noise as much.
I don't know why the JL is SO loud on the freeway for conversations as I have the JK Rubi and have no issues on freeways with conversations!!! 😂😂😂
I still have my 08 JK that I bought new from the Jeep dealership and its pushing 90,000 miles. I would be damned if I let it go just because it reached 100,000 miles.
I'm blasting my music with the top down doors off whenever I drive never had any problem.
I have a 23 2 door 3.6 6MT and I love driving it, doors off too down windows off.

2022 two door rubicon, 15 k miles and steering dampener blew out and I have crazy death wobble. Replacement are on months back order so i had to buy aftermarket and replace myself to save the ball joints
Jeeps are not designed to be the main family daily driver vehicle. Jeeps are niche vehicles. I have a JK because the early JL models have electrical and corrosion issues. I think Jeep has addressed those issues in the newer models.
You guys can’t even fix a visor. That’s all I need to know.
I'd love to see a list of their maintenance and repair expenses. I'm sure Edmunds could do a whole video on getting screwed by dealerships for minor repairs and maintenance.
I've had zero issue on my JK!!! Had a recall on airbag wiring system but that's about it! It's been rock solid! The thermostat failed at 50K miles which is probably typical but is pathetic compared to my other German vehicles!!!
Wow, maybe you picked the wrong year (new gen) to use and abuse. My 2015 (bought 1 Aug 2014) and has 122K miles. I’ve replaced tires twice, water pump, and that’s it. I only paid $38K for my JKU. And yes, I 4-wheel it a bit…just not like you guys. How does it compare to other 4x4’s you’ve owned?

I own a 12 Rubicon and a 16 F150, the Jeep has had the following issues, 3 differential rebuilds, 1 drivers side head replacement, it ate 2 cams, the F150 is still waiting for its 1st trip to the service center, both have about 130k on them, oh and we built a house using the 150 as the mule, and drug a 10k trailer around Arizona and Colorado. You tell me.....
So you counted tires and oil changes? Thats pretty lame... thats general stuff and should not be counted... over half the money spent was on things that every vehicle has to do... it was a first gen one too, there is always bad stuff with first year vehicles. And actually they are great in the city as well as the woods, visibility is excellent. Thx for the review
I charge myself. …50 cents a mile on any vehicle I drive in my fleet and this consist of pavement driving. When I drive my JEEPS, Ford Raptor, ATVS/Side by Side etc

See the "cost to own" complaints I see for Wranglers I believe are kind of BS. Because NO ONE separates out the costs that result from the vehicle being OFF-ROADED! Well of course the damn thing is gonna break down more if you're taking it off-road. The OG Willy's "jeeps" had a reputation for being indestructable, but ask someone who actually WORKED on them at the time and they'll tell you about all of the things they had to fix on them constantly. But that was because they were being driven in literal war zones. So it's not exactly a fair analysis to compare it with cars that people DON'T go off-roading with.
Jeeps have gremlins like any new modern vehicle.
It's the dealerships thar are ruining the industry, with ridiculous prices and incompetent mechanics.
Jeep = money pit, always has.
