Saw this yesterday. I did know the story and was amazed that they also manged to include a reference to the riddle of the sphinx yet in a modern setting. As Leslie Manville said - not a bad penny in the cast. See it if you can - try and get cheaper seats because there isn't anything I can think of that obscures what happens on stage - the cost of theatre is becoming elitist and needs to be addressed.
I think that's by design. If I remember correctly, her character is supposed to be 13 when she gives birth - so they would be close in age. One of the (many) reasons it is so shocking, when the audience learns the truth of the relationship. I haven't read this adaptation, but I think that is the case in the Sophocles original.
Went to see it last week, and was absolutely mesmerised! If you get a chance, please go!!
Mark isn't the most famous actor, but he's been in everything and has no haters. Kudos.
Just saw it and rushed to find any related media I could. I’m still in shock. That play was INSANE. Wow.
So glad you had such a great time at Oedipus!
I saw it last week. Fantastic acting. Strong and Manville took my breath away.

We're so glad you enjoyed Oedipus!
So is Leslie supposed to be playing his mother? They are v close in age no?

Manville is 68 and Strong is 61. Correct casting: Oedipus is in his twenties and the missus in her forties.
