  • Climbing a tree with tree spurs (also known as tree gaffs or spikes) and rappelling while hunting can offer several advantages, particularly for hunters seeking an elevated vantage point. This approach provides better concealment, reducing the chances of being detected by game, especially in areas with dense vegetation where ground visibility is limited. The enhanced line of sight from an elevated position allows hunters to survey a larger area, spot game from a greater distance, and strategically place tree stands for optimal visibility and shooting lanes.
In addition to improved stealth and visibility, tree climbing with spurs offers safety benefits by providing a secure and stable means of ascending and descending trees. The adaptability of this method allows hunters to navigate various terrains, including forests, swamps, and uneven landscapes. Being elevated also takes advantage of wind currents, helping to mask the hunter's scent and increase the chances of remaining undetected. While these advantages can enhance a hunter's experience and success, prioritizing safety through proper training and adherence to guidelines is crucial for minimizing risks associated with tree climbing activities. Hunters should also be aware of and comply with local regulations related to tree climbing and hunting methods.

You should check out the privileged bowhunter’s videos on how he uses atc, swabish hitch and autoblock. You don’t get that extra tension that you get with the figure eight and no need to switch to another rappelling device. I believe he uses the 8mm rope also.
