I tried the saddle for 1 1/2 years. 2 things made me go back to a lock on. In the saddle you always have 2 blind spots. The tree in front of you and whats behind you. The second was comfort. Despite all the fiddling and gismos I could never get as comfortable as my stand. I'm happy with my decision, it works for me.
My dream setup: 5lb sit & climb with mesh seat, rubber cables, packs down flat and tiny with real comfortable shoulder straps, supports up to 350 pounds and costs less than $200. Treestand manufactures, if you make this happen I would guarantee you’d corner and own the market hands down.
You guys should see how I use my stand when saddle hunting. My one stix is my seat, that attaches to my stand, once set up. Took an old steel hang on, and removed the SEAT n CABLES . Turned it around, put jaws on it n supported from underneath. It weighs10 lbs. on the nose.
Have a saddle set up, and still run my old Lone Wolf hand climber as well....still the quickest way to get up in a tree, at least for myself. Wild that we've reached a point where climbers don't even enter the conversation any more. Thanks for the video, subscribed.
Started saddle last year absolutely love it. Will use my permanent if it makes sense but love love love saddle! Great topic. I haven't even finished watching yet but I certainly will.
I have been thinking about trying out a saddle, but I just have not pulled the trigger yet. I hunt from hang on and blinds mainly. Thx again for another great video.
Since you're new to saddle hunting, my biggest suggestion is to do more research on UA-cam it will really enhance your saddle hunting experience; that's what I did, and I learned a lot. The weak side shot is not brain surgery. You have to find out what method works best for you . Saddle hunting is not everyone, and you have to practice, unlike using a tree stands. If you're not willing to practice with tree saddle equipment and do research on UA-cam. I wouldn't recommend tree saddle hunting to those hunters.
I set my platform to the right and on the same level as the top of the last stick. You can use the top of the stick to move around the tree and shoot to your weak side, using the tree as cover to hide behind.
I like all of them. I have everything from saddle with platform, one stick platform, treestand and climbers and multiple semi permanent sets. It just all depends where Im hunting public/private also type of woods hills /flat land/ swamp/ what time of the year early season shorter sits not very high zero extras, rut long sits carrying etc clothes food etc. late season high up big tree carrying all my clothes and then some. I have to be flexible more than anything.
Very neat. just getting in to bowhunting/whitetail mostly been an elk rifle hunter. Have a big piece of property available to us now and its been a big discussion on how we are going to tackle it stand wise. much appreciated!
The overwhelming majority of saddle hunters use a tree saddle platform for good reasons. As far as weight, my tree saddle platform only weighs 3 lbs (tree saddles platforms can wiegh as much 7lbs to 1lbs). I use a ring of steps plus a trees platform. The advantage of that system is that it makes it easier to shoot and more comfortable. If you do some research on tree saddle platforms, you will enhance your tree saddle hunting experience. 😉
For me, the ideal setup is my saddle used in conjunction with either my LW assault or XOP Vanish. Both stands are light and I carry them with the Molle straps and waist belt. I am more comfortable for longer sets in them and have the option to sit if I need. Also i am able to move better, more quiet and get positioned for all shot angles better than the saddle platform. With my saddle platform, I find that after an hour or more I begin to start squirming due to my feet getting uncomfortable. However, last year I fastened a 1” foam pad to the saddle platform and it made a significant improvement in the comfort of standing there. I still prefer the stand though.
For comfort you need something like the jx3 hybrid eliminates all those pinch points and keeps your knees off the tree and depending on how you are climbing the tree (sticks, line , or spikes) set up time is a flash and when it comes to places where its hard to find a tree under Normal circumstances you definitely have a wider range of options that being said the downside i agree with you guys all that moving your bow over the line and the right shoulder shot (if your right handed)sucks platform stands are way easier to maneuver in and there comfort cant be beat
The thing I like the most about saddles is how much more comfortable they are. I rarely use them, though. Almost all the owners of the land I hunt allow permanent sets. When archery is over and we move into rifle, I find there is a lot more to gain from having permanent sets I can use for the entire season if I dont feel like sitting on the ground or stalking.
What is nice about the saddle platform is that it will fit in your pack and you don’t have extra bulk on your back. Also you can stand on the platform with the tree at your back to make those offside shots. It’s a bit more movement but if you see the deer coming you would be able to shoot that side just like a hang on.
What’s nice about a lock on is that you can shoot 360 degrees and you’re only carrying a few more pounds and don’t make your legs fall asleep after 30 minutes of sitting in it
@@Pennebaker1I do all day sits and my legs don’t fall asleep in my saddle. The key is a two panel saddle and adjusting the bridge for no hip pinch. My back was always sore and butt gets numb sitting in a tree stand all day. Also you can 100% move around a tree with a saddle just use a ring of steps. But most saddle hunters don’t use a ring of steps so they do crazy acrobatics to try to get shots that there is no need for. Also the weight and packability alone goes to saddle hunting.
I like the concept and the mobility, lightweight, and accessibility of it for a saddle, but for comfortability, I use a stand. I'm 38 and was not gentle to my body, and saddles hurt, but treestands are comfortable and nice. I only use treestands, anymore especially for the shooting mobility and to make it easier. A more confident shot is a more accurate shot.
I think a person looks more natural in a saddle, almost like another big branch coming off the tree instead of a blob up in a tree with a hang on... but I'm not going to ditch my hang on any time soon.
Not all tree saddles are comfortable or high-quality vice-versa with tree stands . There are a lot more comfortable tree saddles than tethered, and I owned one. Cruzer XC is very comfortable more comfortable than any tree stand I have ever sat in.
Fair warning to anybody hunting with a crossbow from saddle make sure those limbs won’t hit the tree my crossbow exploded when I shot at a Nice buck (would of been easy bow shot) but my shoulder was fucked up at the time good way lose $800 and my chance at my target buck
The statement you made about using a tree saddle platform is not worth using; because you might well us a hang on is totally false, no offense. Tree saddle platforms makes it really comfortable makes a huge difference. The overwhelming majority of saddle hunters us a tree saddle platform for good reasons. As far as weight my tree saddle platform only weighs 3lbs. I use a ring of steps plus a trees platform the advantage of that system it makes easier to shoot and more comfortable.

I’d say the movement to shoot on your weak side, would be about the same in a saddle or tree stand
I am wanting to get into saddle hunting... Thanks for the info.

PSE🙏 always good information definitely like to look at some new avenues appreciate the tips

Need to try a saddle out this season. Lost my private ground spot. So now I have to stick to the public grounds.
I use both but saddle 99% of the time. Great content on video.

Stand's ,for me for sure! Thank's for the information though.

I use stands exclusively & I have some permanent setups. I’ve never tried saddle hunting.

I use both it depends on how I'm feeling that day or where I'm going to hunt
Im gonna stick to my LWCG. Saddle is nice, but once the cold front hit, u have to layer up and everything is gonna be in a way n more movement.
Even if hunting out of a loc on type stand the saddle is still amazing to use as your safety tether...best of both worlds
Tree stand - no question. All day hunts on private land. Simple, comfortable.

None are comfortable over 5 plus hour sits

I could see using a saddle, for the weight savings...
On larger properties
Thanks from a new whitetail hunter.
For me I love my xop climber. It's 16lbs so I can be mobile with out too.much weight. Can be loud when setting it up in the dark but it works for me
Good information and comparisons between the various stand types.
I’m on the fence with a saddle. I zero issues with my climber.
Saddle hunting is the ultimate mobile tool for me. Practice shooting from 4 feet off the ground. Loosen your boot laces for sitting in saddle.
Always wanted to try out a PSE
I have always had a hard time making the choice over time i just ended up using one over the other depending on my situation.
Good information on comparing them.
Great video thanks for the tips!
Platform makes a world of difference as far as offside shot goes
I've been looking into getting a saddle

A lot of folks simply do both. A saddle can be a safety harness, so no reason to not use a saddle.
I think a person looks more natural in a saddle, almost like another big branch coming off the tree instead of a blob up in a tree with a hang on... but I'm not going to ditch my hang on any time soon.
Under 10# stand, so not to bad….Interesting though and something to look at for sure! 👊🏻🏹

Stands and saddle for me.
I’m 3 months late but damn right I want a pse
A hang on has no blind or off side shot at all
….. stand up and turn?
Good video
I need a bow like that, deer dont fall over at the sight of my bow.
I’m too heavy to use either hahaha
I need a better bow for all my hunting.
No ground blind, could have completed the trifecta.

PSE-Push Shoot EXPLODE
I want a pse! Lol
❤️Nice🤞🙏
👍🏼
No way a saddle is better than a stand
Be cool
I blink a lot
