Very informative video, the only thing I would add is it's OK if you want to keep your linemen belt attached while you are hunting. Arborist always have 2 points of connection. If it makes you feel safer just leave the linemen belt attached .
Also dont be afraid to climb with more then just a linemans, use your tether, a safety line, a 2nd lineman, anything that makes you feel safer. The whole need to be up a tree in 3mins just rubs me the wrong way, safety over maybe missing or scaring a deer
I love that someone finally said it! Use your tether as second lineman belt when going around a limb. This just shows the veracity you get from a saddle. Try going around a limb with a climber.
I am an arm amputee missing my right arm. I just received my complete Tethrd setup and climbed for the first time. I absolutely already prefer this over hang and hunt or my climber. It is extremely easy for me to hang the predator platform over a hang-on stand. Very comfortable. I am able to shoot compound bow 360 degrees and since I am missing my arm, turning to make off hand shots is super easy for me. Thanks Tethrd.
I have never use a saddle this video was informative. Life long bowhunter always using climbers or lock on type stands. I appreciate showing the proper way to use a saddle and promote safety first. Great job!
It's worth noting that a prussic tender makes the standard prussic significantly more user friendly and you can make them out of cordage which makes them extremely affordable.
Plenty of info out there, but this is the best summary that I've come across. Nice work. You're really taking saddle hunting from an esoteric niche to a complete accessible option for the average hunter .
I really appreciate the safety videos. Tethrd does a excellent point in stressing safety first. It’s a topic not always covered by some celebrities in the hunting media. Thank you again!
New to this way of hunting, going to have a saddle this upcoming season!! I have 3 sons that will hunt and this will make it easier and much safer for them, also more affordable instead of multiple tree stands each. Thank yoy:)
I just got in my menace saddle and predator platform today ....Waiting for my sys hauler and ropeman 1 to come in....I’ll definitely be in the saddle a lot this summer getting use to using it before hunting season.
Thank you for this helpful info clear and easy to understand explanations. May the Lord Jesus Christ truly bless you with a safe and successful hunting season
Is there any videos or can there be an update video with using the rope man ascender while also having the prusik knot used as well on the tethrd tree rope? I’m new to saddle hunting and trying to learn where the ropeman ascender is placed along with the prusik knot.
I might suggest to describe the Tether as being attached to the tree by, "Running Eye" verses the common industry description of, "Girth Hitch". I believe this to be a proper or more correct / accurate terminology. I appreciate your very educational youTube podcast. thanks for your efforts. If A tether were to be "Girth Hitched" to the Tree, maybe there would not be a need for a "castration band or Celtic Knot"? I hope that this idea does not come off as being a know it all. I am grateful for your obvious experience and knowledge.
I ordered the 11mm tether and lineman's belt from Thetrd today. In looking at the specs I see the tether is Brown/Orange and has a 5" factory-spliced eye and 2 carabiners, and the lineman's belt is Green/Black and has a 2″ factory-spliced eye and 1 carabiner. Is there any other differences between the two besides color of rope, size of eye, and number of carabiners? Why is there a difference in the size of the eye, why is 5" better for a tether and 2" better for a lineman's rope? It is helpful for us to understand why our gear is designed the way it is.
The shrink wrap/plastic cover that now ships around the lineman belt just after the eye makes the girth hitch on the one side a lot more difficult to do. Is that something that should stay on or can I remove it?
@@galinswigart cool, I just removed mine too, the rope was still pretty tight around the splice but I'm guessing when I put my weight on it the loop should synch tight!
lineman's rope,it is important to note, is not a fall arrest device. Lineman's ropes are primarily designed for fall prevention, meaning they help and may prevent falls from happening in the first place.
I see one part on the video your tree tether has a prusic knot and the other has a mechanical device. But then when you show where to place it height wise the mechanical device isn't used, do you use both interchangeably? Thanks
Might be a dumb question but I'm completely new to this whole concept. How do you actually climb up if there aren't limbs? Is it climbing spikes or something? I'm confused. I feel like a video getting up a tree start to finish would be helpful
Hi guys, Going to eventually switch to the Mantis. Just wondering where do you put your camera arm when self filming when you are facing the tree? If anyone has experience self filming and hunting from a saddle please chime in. Thanks
Does this make sense? When you select your tree it should be apparent by visual inspection that you will have to negotiate one or more limbs. In that case you could rig your second lineman's belt before you start up the tree, keeping it attached to the harness but stowed in your sys hauler. Two benefits: 1) Eliminates one rigging step from an elevated position, 2) Eliminates the possibility of dropping the second rope. I welcome your thoughts.
Awesome. But id like to see a video of the ENTIRE setup from the ground up including sticks, aider, platform, preparation of bow etc. I don't own a saddle and won't buy one until I see the entire process. Thanks.
Fall protection i have always been taught to be above yourhead to minimize fall impact and potential breakage to the tether. My cousin feel 30 feet from his tree stand because of no fall protection. Broke his back and he had to re learn hiw to walk basically. Well he lived his life on the edge and hes dead now from a motocycle accident st 34 years old. Be safe out there tie off and dont drink ride or drive, could be your kid one day
Great video, question I just purchased a phantom saddle and a lineman’s rope and tree tether. I’m pumped to use it. My question is do you have a link to those carabiners, the ones that you guys through in seem almost to thick to move through the rope man.. thanks guys for the killer product
I just bought one and I’ve been watching videos for hours. It would be much more beneficial to show us how to do the setup using the prusik knot and not the ascenders
I currently have a rope style tree strap from my current tree stand harness. Can that be used as a tether instead of buying a new one? I already have some of these things, i.e. the lineman's rope and tree strap/tether, and as I'm trying to save money I'd like to use what I currently have.
You need a roller/pulley for that prusik then it won’t “suck”,you can adjust it on the fly,if you had some arborist or linemen show you these tricks it could make guys feel more comfortable
These types of videos can be improved by filming them while you are on whatever climbing system you are using. That would give new users and prospective buyers a better look and more confidence
I'm going to start saving money for it. As soon as it does go on sale I'm going to get it. Because I'm tired of hauling my hang on in and it seems way faster.
Only if tethrd are not expensive I would support and buy but sometimes the things you need are soo expensive and u couldn't have or an opportunity to get others products to use.
One problem, when you have to climb over branches if you don’t pick a bean pole tree you’re are going to have to disconnect lineman belt and reconnect and would be momentarily unTethrd......
Good point. The last thing you want to do is to be untethered, even momentarily! The solution would be to have a second lineman rope to pass around the trunk above the higher branch BEFORE you disconnect the first lineman to pass it higher too (without overlapping the safety line you moved up first). I used to rock climb and, I have to tell you, the use of knots and ropes I see in saddle hunting videos is not sufficiently detailed to prevent accidents. For example, it is true that, on branch-less trunks, you are always connected to the tree by the lineman rope, but I can assure you that if your foot slides down, first your face is going to hit the tree, and then both your face and your privates are going to be roughed up while you slide down the trunk. Look at hunting accidents stats, folks! After being accidentally shot with a rifle, the fall from a tree stand comes second. If you are going to safely use a hunting saddle, be absolutely clear about, and practice, how to go up, how to secure your belay, and how to get out of the saddle and climb/rappel down.
It is an ascender, using rope for tge better part of my adult life it will hold, feel free to back it up with a prusik if you like tho...I would use the vt prusik...no ascender is rated for a fall, however i have done pick offs and such with them..

Outstanding info on proper way to use rope for saddle hunting
Keep the in-depth videos coming! I need as much info as I can get while I wait on my order.

Still the best videos on how to saddle hunt, safety, and equipment use.

I just ordered my mantis last night!!
Are the ropes the exact same or is one different than the other? Or is it just how they are used thats different?
can or is the lineman belt rated to be used as a tether as well?

I bought all this stuff and it's great but the ropes are massive. Is there a smaller diameter, splice eye rope compatible with ropeman 1?
Great quality video.
