May I suggest you use metal knitting needles? If you use an iron to heat the needle after you put the yarn or ribbon on it you can have it within a few minutes. I do that with thin ribbon and it works every time Also you could put a little starch in your water and the curls will last longer and hold up well to humidity. The beauty of the knitting needles is the variety of sizes. That makes the project look more natural. I iron them dry but you can do it wet. You don't have to put the iron on the whole thin you just need to heat it up so use pliers to hold on to the end and yo I could use your electric stove to heat the needle. Just some suggestions, I hope you didn't mind me sending this to you. Have a great day day.
@debby6679 I put the stick inside a hand drill and tighten it so it wouldn't fall out. Then wrapped a little of the sting around the stick to get it started then just pressed the button on the drill and helped feed it around to the end.
You can also dip the skewers into hot (boiling) water and let them dry. That’s how Black girls have been curling and waving their artificial hair for a very long time.
you are amazing!!!! I am loving all your videos so much. Very easy to follow your directions too. Thank you for putting these awesome videos out there!
@@DIYIsMyHappyPlace I’m so addicted to making my hair now. I’m making different colors and other parts before I start my next gnome. Love your posts. They are so inspiring and helpful
Make this in 20 mins. Use skewers. Wrap as she’s shown. Then for me I soaked in water under tap quickly and then I spray with fabric fabreeze for scent. Then I tied all the sticks together and popped in tumble dryer for 10 mins. And perfect
I use this yarn on so many projects so I just wanted to show how to get it to curl. Depending on my projects I use different techniques for placing it on the crafts. The most common way is to wrap the yarn ends around pipe cleaners then glueing them to my projects. Go to minute 15:25 on this video for an example: ua-cam.com/video/wEXcLdmWY7A/v-deo.htmlsi=NEpLPzzSGpF5446k
Köszönöm szépen, hogy megnézted! Amikor nedves lesz a fonal, nem tartja meg a göndörségét, ha természetes módon szárad. Meg kell sütni, hogy a göndör maradandó legyen. ❤️
I tried all different weights. Because it was such a low temperature in the oven, I had no problems! It's just warm enough to dry the yarn in position. Thanks for watching!
When I do them, I always make a large cookie sheets worth so I always have extra, but it depends on the length of the hair. I would do at least 20 sticks with just to be on the safe side.
I hot glue the bottom of the hair to the gnome. The pipecleaner just holds the yarn together so it can be glued in large chicks instead of one piece of yarn at a time.
Love this creative idea! All your videos are inspiring. I am confused on how the pipe cleaners are used after baking…do you transfer the curly hair on to them and how. Sorry if I’m being ignorant but I played video over and over and I can’t get it through my thick brain. Thanks for sharing your wonderful ideas.
I’m sorry if that isn’t clear. I attached the curly yarn to a pipe cleaner so I didn’t have to glue each hair on individually. Once I had a line of yarn on a pipe cleaner, I glued the entire line to the top of the head. You can layer these until you have the thickness you desire for the hair. I hope that makes sense.
It has happened. It’s very humid here so I assumed that was the cause. I let them sit over night to make sure they were dry. It’s a pain to have to wait, but it’s worth it.
The first Batch I made, when I was still figuring out the temperature and timing, my yard had the edges brown a little bit. I will say, it is easy to forget they are in the oven because there really is no smell. I didn’t realize how much the smell of something baking reminds me when I’m cooking. For this reason, I highly recommend using the oven timer, so when it is done, it automatically turns off. I did have a batch I forgot about for about an hour and a half and with the low temperature, it was still just fine. No burning, thank goodness.
A bit of a dumb question here but I thought I better double check, when you say 200 degrees, is it in Fahrenheit or Celsius? I'm guessing from your accent it might be Fahrenheit? I mean 200 Celsius for 45 minutes would likely scorch the heck out of the wool/yarn, but I still gotta ask lol
Thank you for your great videos! I've already successfully tried some of the things you showed. Unfortunately this time things went wrong. I followed your instructions, but the result is terrible. Aside from the fact that the whole house now smells terribly, a few of the covered wooden sticks have stuck to my baking tray. The black wool has now turned brown and the bright orange wool has now turned an unsightly dark orange. It's the same with green. The wooden sticks underneath are charred and partly black. I set it to 200 degrees and also have a thermostat in the oven, so the temperature isn't to blame. I used Chinese chopsticks and also shish kebab skewers as sticks. I placed the baking sheet in the middle part of the oven. The wool is simple acrylic wool. I don't know what went wrong, but I'm glad we still have warm weather so I can leave the windows and doors open for a while to get the smell out. Do you have any idea what could have gone wrong? Kind regards from Austria :)
OMG I think I just figured it out myself! You mention 200 degrees for the oven. But since we use degrees Celsius in Austria, that is where the error lies!! You probably meant 200 degrees Fahrenheit!? That's a huge difference in the heat and no wonder I burned so much! SORRY!! 🤪🤣
Hi Darleen!! Thank you so much for watching!! ❤️ That is a great question. I use pipe cleaners because their texture holds the yarn in place so that it's not always unwinding. 😁

Wow! Mind blown! I’m going to give it a try. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much!!! I used a drill to turn mines faster. I was getting bad hand cramps trying to do it manually 😆
What a fantastic idea! I’m going to do that next time! Thank you!
Silly question, how did you use a drill for this?
@debby6679 I put the stick inside a hand drill and tighten it so it wouldn't fall out. Then wrapped a little of the sting around the stick to get it started then just pressed the button on the drill and helped feed it around to the end.
I could kiss you for this suggestion. 😂 Pulled out my drill and it made it go so much faster.

No problem! Thanks for watching this one too!
So cute! I will have to try this for my next gnome!
Thanks Sharon! Let me know how it turns out!
This is awesome! Thanks!!!
Thank you 😊
Thank you for sharing your video and tutorial... Neat!
Thank you so much!
This was a fantastic tip!!
Hello my friend! Thank you so much!!
Does the type of yarn matter? ( ie acrylic, polyester, etc)
I have used all types but polyester works the best.
I used the screwers and my drill. I was able to get them done real quick
Kaylene, that's a fantastic idea! Thank you!!❤️

this is great! thanks so much. I am not clear on the pipe cleaner though - what is that for?
To attach the pieces together
I do thin ribbon like this it’s very cool will be trying this to thanks for sharing
I have never tried it with ribbon. In will have to give that a try. What a great idea. Thank you!
OMG! I 💕 love it!! So 😎 cool that all the gnomes beards can be done so easy!! Everything from Dollar Tree 🌲 is great!! You are fantastic!!💕😘
Thank you so much Linda! 💕💕

Very creative
Thank you so much, Ellen!
I use the same method to make ribbons for a little girls hair then just use a glue gun to attach them to a clip or headband
AMAZING!!!!!! TYSM
I'm glad you like it Thank you for watching!
Im going to use this to make hair for a pinkie pie plushie :3
Oh that sounds fabulous! Good luck!
I love it, it's great, I crochet and I've never seen this method, my curls are beautiful crochet but a bit complicated
Oh I’d love to see what you are doing.
okay I put some on Instagram's
Do you have a video showing your entire process? From making it all the way to placing it on a gnome?

Absolutely genius. Do you have one for removing it? I broke the sticks in half which helped.
I should do one showing how I get the yarn off. I have broken a stick or two when I was figuring out the best way to get the yarn off.
replay. I love this. I can't wait to try it. I couldn't find your video on how to attach the yarn. please show me how to find it.
Oh sorry. I haven’t posted it yet. I will post it next Monday.
Wow, Thank you, very cool 😊🌹🌷
Thank you!
Great video thanks.
Thank you! I am so glad you liked it!
I’m doing this for a little clown plush😊

How would you attach the curls
I wind them around a pipe cleaner and then glue them on with hot glue.
What kind of yarn do you use? I would be concerned about heating acrylic yarn. Also what weight yarn?
I tried all different weights. Because it was such a low temperature in the oven, I had no problems! It's just warm enough to dry the yarn in position. Thanks for watching!
How many would you need for a small doll
When I do them, I always make a large cookie sheets worth so I always have extra, but it depends on the length of the hair. I would do at least 20 sticks with just to be on the safe side.
How do you attach to the gnome with the pipe cleaner? That part is a bit confusing to me.
I hot glue the bottom of the hair to the gnome. The pipecleaner just holds the yarn together so it can be glued in large chicks instead of one piece of yarn at a time.
Happy Thanksgiving! I thought so but in the clumps hanging I saw some different colors and assumed they were pipe cleaners@@DIYIsMyHappyPlace
Great video! I'm a little confused about the pipe cleaner step. Are you transferring the yarn from the stick to the pipe cleaner?
Hi Reagan! Thank you so much for watching! Yes, I am. The pipe clean just helps keep it in place. 😁

So you are tying each curl to pipe cleaner then gluing pipe cleaner to head
Does it matter what kind of yarn you use?
I would also like to know what the yarn is made out of.
I’ve tried all different yarns and definitely the soft fluffy polyester yarn was the least favorable. It works, but not as well.
Is it 200 Fahrenheit or centigrade please
Fahrenheit
How do you attach the yarn to curly gnomes?
Great question! I attach mine with a pipe cleaner! Thank you so much for watching!!❤️
Thanks for the tutorial! I tried and it didn’t work. The color get lost, what I was doing wrong?
Oh no, really. What do you mean the color get lost? Are you saying the color came out of the yarn?
A batch I had made were still wet an hour after I took them out of the oven. Has this ever happened? Can this be fixed?
It has happened. It’s very humid here so I assumed that was the cause. I let them sit over night to make sure they were dry. It’s a pain to have to wait, but it’s worth it.
Have you ever had problems with the hair burning?
