  • For Football Coaches and Offensive Coordinators Proper Planning Prevents Poor Offensive Performance!!!
Have you heard about the first 15 plays script before? I'm going to tell you about it coming up. Hey everybody, welcome to Elite Athletes TV. I'm Mike Pawlawski, former 11 year pro quarterback and quarterbacks coach here at www.eliteathletestv.com/
Many of you know that I'm also a college football analyst and I cover Pac-12 games. We got a great question from one of our viewers, asking about how coaches develop that first 15 play scripts. Some coaches will script 10 some coaches will script 20 but most coaches that I know of offensive coordinators go into a game with a first X number of plays scripted. I'm going to show you one from my NFL days that Sam Wyche created for a game and we're going to talk about overall concepts.
If you love football content, make sure that you subscribe to the channel. Give me a thumbs up and leave me a comment down below. I'd love to hear from you. Last thing, please share this video out at eliteathletestv.com we're trying to help as many young athletes as we can.
Let's get into the question. I can tell you how offensive coordinators coaches script the first 15 plays and why they're doing it. There's several reasons. First is it's the opening drive of the game, you want to be efficient, you want to set the right tone, you want to score points andbuild momentum for your team. And so you want to design plays you can run to perfection. You always want to get off to a good start having that play script in place with plays that you're very good at allows you an opportunity to do that. This year in the PAC 12, it is really key to have a script because with COVID, the teams have been sheltered. The media has not been allowed to go to practices or games. There's no preseason game, so you don't have film. You're going right into Pac 12 competition. There's four new offensive coordinators in the PAC 12 North alone, there's a couple new defensive coordinators in the conference as well. Outside of looking at past game film from where they've coached before you don't know what these offenses are going to look like. If you're a new offensivee coordinator, you don't know how defenses are going to try to defend you. They're looking at your old game film, but you don't know exactly how they're gonna try to defend you.
Early in the game, you need to get a bead on what the defense is trying to do to you. How do you do that? Well, you design a first 15 play script that gives you different formations, different sets, different motions, so that you can see exactly what teams are going to try to do to you. You're also going to introduce your personnel groups. You're going to give different looks from that so that you understand how defenses will adjust to you because depending on how defenses adjust to you you're going to use that information to decide on future play calls. Find what works for you in those sets where the weakness is. So you're going to run through a number of formations and sets. Finally, you want to have those plays in place in that first 15 that set up future plays. Maybe you want to run a toss pass in this game. So in that first 15, you might want to run the toss, both left and right a couple different directions, out of a certain formation to set up the trick play.
All of these things are set in your first 15. So that you have that thinking and it doesn't have to happen. You don't have to guess or get emotional in the moment. There's a lot of thought that goes into that first 15 just like any script, there's some ad libbing that happens with most coaches. Some coaches veer off of it right away. That's what scripts are all about. If you liked what I did here, please make sure that you subscribe to the channel and ring that bell, all the football content that you want. Hey Mike don’t know if you’re already planning to do this but I’m interested in hearing what your prediction for the cal vs wash game on Saturday and maybe the rest of the pac-12 games. Really like you’re run downs of what’s behind the scenes in college football 👍

Coach. I coach 13 & 14 yr olds on a spring flag football team. They also all play on the same tackle team for school in the fall. When they come out & everything goes well they are great, but, as soon as the other team has success, many of them fall apart mentally. We were tied at 7-7 and you would've thought we were down by 40. How do you address that & actually change that? Is there a way? Should I also talk to parents?

I'm not expert but an idea is to get some first downs and build some momentum and then pep talk them on the positive saying see I knew you could do it.
