The thing I like about this fight sequence is how it shows that fighting is never as precise as how it's practiced in a controlled environment. Many times, you may not get the hold perfect immediately. Sometimes, you may get it partially and have to work it out to finish it. Sometimes you have to abandon it completely to go to the next available position. That's one of the first things I learned when I was taking BJJ. That nothing works as smoothly as you practice it, but in constantly practicing it you learn how to work it to hopefully make it work. And then going from a controlled environment of a padded floor in a class to the real world where you have cars and fences and poles and other obstacles that will play into a fight. Donnie Yen brings that realism to light in this scene.
That's called you fucking up. In real fights you wait for the opportunity and fight the best you either that be defense or offense. But when the picture arise take it. Lol of course fights aren't perfect it's two people what you expect.
Not even close to realistic. They are fighting like they are in the cage with rules. That's why the review is also unrealistic. Where is the eye poke, biting, nose poke, throwing dirt in the eye. nut kick? Where is the rabbit punches, headbutts, neck punch?
Special ID final fight is easily the most realistic unarmed fight scene in cinema history given the scenario of 1 vs 1 , both are capable fighters. Several hits are slipping and there are so many dirty punches. This really represents realism because in a real fight where both combatants are proficient, it is hard to land clean hits. Typical movie fight scenes include too many heavy attacks landing perfectly and rhythmically. Donnie Yen's Special ID is antithetical to that. What makes Special ID so legit is more than just the techniques shown, but the application of the techniques and the context of non-ideal conditions of a real fight also shown in the film.

@@ex0duzz you misunderstood the definition of dirty punch. The dirty punch im referring here has NOTHING to do with what you said. It refers to the force transfer of a hit. It refers to the boxing or MMA terminology of clean shot, which means a hit that transfer its force effectively ( cleanly connects thus the name clean). "Dirty" just means the reverse, a hit that doesnt connect its force effectively. I suggest you revise your comment because it literally had nothing to with my original statement.
@@AZ-wc5ot more like 70% realistic if you see two expert combatants go at it. Seriously it's really hard to land a punch on someone whos skilled without the fear of getting countered or tackled. Even just to land it without any consequence or retaliation it's already damn hard. What makes Special ID really good that it includes the non-idealism and quite realistic physics in the film. ( not just in the choreography)
@@ex0duzz im not trying to be mean or a smartass here. But as for your idea of gouging the eyes during triangle position, hmmmm I don't think it is easy. The moment you try to gouge someone eyes, the guy you triangled on would probably spaz so hard at the moment when one of your hands will lose control of the opponents head, which eventually break your triangle firmness. Which would probably lead to higher chance of the opponents to escape the triangle. In addition to that, it is hard to utilize fine motor control during the struggle just to maintain the triangle tight while worrying of being reversed or escape attempt. But again, I would love to see eye gouge being utilized in an appropriate instance in a film fight. I can remember, there is one prison fight scene from the serial "Banshee" where the protagonist uses eye gouging in a quite plausible attempt. I forgot what episode was that but you can search on google maybe.
This is the best kind of reaction channel. Giving easy to understand lessons with great insight from two interesting people who actually know what they're talking about. I've seen only a few of your videos and now I'll be subbing. :D

This is by far the best breakdown series I’ve seen related to fighting. You both are very good at explaining techniques in a straightforward way. Logan sometimes looks a bit apprehensive (understandably) when a technique is about to be demonstrated on him but he’s a good sport about it. It’s important to have a good sparring partner you trust since those holds can be very painful. I didn’t like practicing with certain people in Karate since they might do the moves a bit quickly or forcefully and that crap sucks (getting an aggressive arm bar or my wrist twisted quickly always sucked).
We really appreciate the comment and we are always looking for new ways to improve the series. Logan and Chad are best friends, and Logan certainly trust Chad enough to have him practice these maneuvers. I agree with you, it sucks having a sparring partner that is way too aggressive just for the hell of it sometimes it takes time to find the right person to train with.
Agreed. I always avoided Special ID because of the critics' ratings and people saying it didn't have good fight scenes, but after watching this breakdown I'm now very compelled to watch the film. Seems like a cool movie. Never should have listened to the critics.
I started studying all different types of martial arts when I was 13, almost 30 years ago. Jeet Kune Do was my favorite (although I was taking Taekwondo at the time)... That was until I saw Royce Gracie completely DOMINATE during the first U.F.C.'S, so my favorite quickly became Brazilian Jujitsu... I was SO enamored with fighting, and martial arts in general, that I was one of a small few ( in my group of friends) that would stay training at the school up into the wee hours of the morning (most times till around 2:00am). We were entrusted with the keys so that we could clean up, and get the place ready for testing day's and stuff like that.... I'm an old man now,, as far as fighting goes anyway. But I still work out, and I still feel the passion for it in my heart! Anyway, I guess I said ALL THAT, to say THIS: ...I am SO GLAD that I found your channel!! I've seen a LOT of "how to fight" videos on UA-cam, and they're MOSTLY all FULL OF $#IT (compared to YOU)! A fighter can ALWAYS tell if another fighter KNOWS what they're talking about, or if they just want to LOOK tough (or get attention), and have people THINK that they are proficient at a certain thing... You have a very direct, and "no $#it" way of explaining (and breaking down) "simple" AND "complex" movements. All the while, showing that "the shortest distance between two points... is simplicity"! You're very articulate in explaining the economy of motion (with the body),, but NOT confusing in the process. And I haven't seen ONE THING (as I've looked through your videos), that is "ineffective" or "superficial"... You REALLY know what the hell you're talking about! Keep up the GREAT WORK, as I am off to go "binge watch" ALL your $#it now! lol (SUBSCRIBED)!! 👍👍
I just want to say that I found this channel the other day and immediately fell in love. I agree. Donnie Yen really became a superstar post 2005 starting with SPL: Sha Pa Lang and onward when he started mixing modern martial arts into his action films. He was already well-known to martial arts fans with Iron Monkey, Hero, and Once Upon A Time In China II, but he really got much bigger post 2005. Then of course, Ip Man in 2008 turned him to a worldwide mega star.

@@ScenicFights Looking forward to seeing more. As person who has never gotten in a fight in their life or taken any sort of martial arts training. Love seeing the technical breakdown of fight scenes.
Really cool breakdown. But one thing that is a disconnect from actual fighting/combat sports and movie; is perfect tight technique. Donnie yen explains in an interview that in film, punches and kicks need to be wide and loopy to look good. It is all about aesthetics in movies, not actual fighting.
Totally see where you're coming from. What we like about Donnie Yen is that he manages to combine both actual fight techniques with flashy movie fight choreography. You can tell he tries to keep it as realistic as possible while keep it entertaining.

This really explains how a BJJ fighter has command of body physics. I'm a lot more concerned now if I ever get into a bit of a scuffle with an experienced grappler! Thanks for opening my eyes! Seeing as I won't know as much, my best best will be to be unpredictable and switch things up faster than he can recalculate. That way we both wont know whats going on.
You don't have to be so unpredictable that you don't know what you are doing, please check out these fighter break downs: ua-cam.com/video/W_dKtCsIA-Y/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/5DV0Q7y2gBU/v-deo.html IIRC, there have been a few UFC fighters over the years who similarly used crossing T or L foot work and intense practice of single leg take down defense. Once you have some idea of what you are doing with grappling positional awareness, you don't have to be fearful of the switch up in a scuffle, just respectful. But what do I know, hopefully you can get in a learning enviroment and see I am not bullshitting you with the proper trio of training partner, a mind for going slow and safely while following clear and concise instructions, and the third person wealth of experience and knowledge of the instructor near by, so you can put in the practice that the respect for one's body mechanics comes from.
@@CanadianWolverine No I do understand, and I agree for the most part, but my fighting days are done. I'm 46 now but I have trained waaay back in my 20's for quite some time in Kyokushin and TKD, but things have changed now and you need a mix of martial arts these days. Gone are the days of traditional styles (for the most part). I could probably still hold my own against the average thug. But against these guys doing the break downs, it's rando time!
Even in Covid Chads are cuddling with the homies...subbed
This is the best kind of reaction channel. Giving easy to understand lessons with great insight from two interesting people who actually know what they're talking about. I've seen only a few of your videos and now I'll be subbing. :D
Thank you! This means a lot to us. Our goal is to offer something more in-depth than the usual breakdown and reaction videos. The only drawback is production takes a longer, but our motto is quality of quantity. Hopefully the UA-cam algorithm agrees! With that being said, thank you for subscribing. Feel free to let us know which fight scene you'd like us to breakdown here or on our Discord.
@@ScenicFights Dude I think UA-cam is agreeing with you. I haven't been searching for "fight scenes" or "Movie fights" and here you all are in my recommended feed. There's actually alot of scenes that come to mind. I'll be sure to go do your discord and make a suggestion once I think of a pretty good one. Thank you! :D
There's a really good knife fight in "The Man From Nowhere" towards the end. It's perfect for a breakdown!
Best way to win a knife fight is to run away.
Need to react to the raid fight scenes
This one please!
They hinted that it WILL be the next breakdown! :D aw yeeee
I literally came to their most recent video to request this, haha.
I believe this channel will blowup with just the right amount of exposure because the content is worth 1m at least
It would be a dream come true! Is there any other fight scene you'd like to see us breakdown? Let us know here or on our discord!
This channel deserves waaay more recognition. They are giving out free knowledge/lessons that people paid years for. In some schools you dont get to learn leg locks till you're a brown belt
There is no reason for anyone to thumbs down this video unless they never have grappled before this was a very well done video.
Yea I agree overall it’s a good video, but crossing the ankles during the arm bar is controversial.
Agreed. I always avoided Special ID because of the critics' ratings and people saying it didn't have good fight scenes, but after watching this breakdown I'm now very compelled to watch the film. Seems like a cool movie. Never should have listened to the critics.
Let's find them and show them some BJJ moves. Can't thumbs down if you break their thumbs!
Keep up the GREAT WORK, as I am off to go "binge watch" ALL your $#it now! lol
(SUBSCRIBED)!! 👍👍
Thank you so much for the write up! We have some awesome BJJ content planned so stay tuned!
Donnie Yen fight scenes are always a joy to watch 👍
This is a HIGHLY entertaining way of learning BJJ techniques. I need those side-to-mount transitions. Thanks!
Imperfect fights shows more that choreographers know what real fights look like.
I just want to say that I found this channel the other day and immediately fell in love. They post quality videos and it is so cool to see that they are getting thousands of subscribers a day because I think that they deserve the attention. My favorite parts of the videos are where they are casually talking when the other person is in a seemingly very uncomfortable position😂
This my my favorite fight scene of all time! I especially love Andy On and would enjoy more breakdowns of his fight scenes
Really glad I found this channel. Reminiscent of my judo coach breaking down our fights step by step. And this was during the days of camcorders before camera phones haha.. Good times.
Fantastic vid! Thanks for making it
I’ve been waiting/searching for a channel like this for quite some time! Very grateful for you guys!!
We're very grateful to have subscribers like you! I recommend hitting that notification bell for our next video.
If you're a fan of Donnie Yen, we also did a scene from SPL: Sha Po Lang ua-cam.com/video/wYJ8KaGBABU/v-deo.html
I have just found this channel I don't know how it's so underrated it's so good and doesn't feed people bullshit.
Thanks Jack! Really appreciate the awesome support.
Excellent knowledge...I'm rewatching this for my self defense...
I dare say that Donnie's fights are some of the best if not the best in cinema history.
@@ScenicFights exactly! Respect for replying to a comment so quickly in a video that was made 9 months ago. Also, I have a few suggestions for the next breakdown you can do. Do you want to hear them?
You two guys are having way too much fun rolling around on top of each other lol
It's lonely during COVID.
I love the break downs and step by step analysis of these fight scenes, not only does it provide some great information regarding how to appropriately apply these moves but we also get to learn what can happen when they go wrong. By having these awesome fight scenes analyzed like they are it actually can give you a better sense of what's happening during the scenes and allow you to appreciate the effort that was put in by the actors. Great job guys, look forward to more videos in the future!

The way you guys explain while breakdown some of the movies during fight scene was very educational and professional.
Thanks Chetan! If you haven't yet feel free to subscribe and let us know which fight scene you'd like us to breakdown next either in the comments or discord. It can be a fight scene from any genre of movie, bollywood, hollywood etc.. or from a TV show/video game!

Cool to see the hook thrown in before mounting to prevent opponent from taking my back and securing the mount from the reverse scarf hold position!
Just subscribed and you guys are really solid.
What I like *a lot* is that you've got the video sectioned; it's easy to go back to the start of a certain section or refer to that section if need be.
Keep up the great work!
Glad you enjoyed it! We try to section our BJJ and grappling episodes as best as we can!
I know nothing about fighting but these breakdowns blow me away. Minuscule details make the difference in gaining and maintaining control over your opponent.
swear this channel deserves more attention than its getting. dope videos keep it up.

love the grab the foot to mount ! never knew about that before ! love the videos guys!
As a fellow grappler I find these steps you demonstrate EXTREMELY vital 🤩🤩🤩
Duuude, why didn’t UA-cam recommend this to me earlier?! This is amazing!
Wow- great analysis of the fight. Keep the video rolling...

@@ScenicFights Hey gents, I can recommend the fight scenes in Donnie Yen's most recent movie "Big Brother" , one of them involved him fighting a bunch of MMA guys lol . Keep up the good work.
Thank you for this channel and it’s videos you guys are really creating excellent content keep up the great work.
Donnie Yen has always been one of the best in martial arts films. Best part(maybe the only part I liked) of the contemporary line of Star Wars films was him finally getting some big time shine. Insane that he is nearly 60.
Donnie Yen was the best part of Rogue One. I hope they do a prequel with his character (and of course continue to have Donnie Yen play Chirrut Îmwe)
@@ScenicFights And people tend to say Donnie yen can't fight and he is not a true martial artist lol 🙄. Like Donnie yen MMA looks very realistic especially in Special ID where most of Hollywood movie don't.
Just found this channel and I love it. Tons of respect for the experience you guys have, and how you disseminate your knowledge to us. Looking forward to more content and wish the best for both of you
Thanks for the breakdown

I don't know if you guys have done a breakdown of The Equalizer movies. But if you haven't it might be worthwhile.
nice explanation!
Man this was a really good scene. First time I see mma outside of the octagon. Also I really like this Chad guy. He is very charismatic. First time I see jiu jitsu with socks too :D. Subscribed
Haha Dimitar! Thank you for the complement! Chad chucked at the jiujitsu socks comment. Donnie Yen was great at implementing MMA with traditional Hong Kong film choreography. If you haven't yet, you should check out Donnie Yen's Flash Point. We also did a breakdown on that video here ua-cam.com/video/jvDZoMYH-Uk/v-deo.html so check it out!
Do a breakdown to Raging fire. He does a flying armbar in the end
The amount of knowledge of human anatomy displayed here. Amazing
Knowing how the human body works is especially effective in becoming a martial artist.
It would be awesome if you analysed the IP Man Fight where Donnie fights 10 "Black belts"... Keep up the good work!
Or, and here is a crazy thought, the Raid or the Raid 2... :)
Or, and I know it is getting wild at this point, any of the Ong Bak movies...
Captain America highway fight please please please break that down. Just stumbled upon this love what you guys do.
Really good breakdowns, applications, what-ifs. Excellent
This a fun way to learn by analysing movie scenes
Holy shit. What an awesome scene. I'd love to see more realistic fights like this.
We will be breaking down more realistic fight scenes like this one!
I think the being held against the car part is pretty plausible, Matt Hughes picked up Carlos newton while in the triangle and was against the cage for quite a while, reason being newton was hanging onto the cage with his head and arm, until the ref stopped him from doing so.
This is very well done
Thank you Bedirhan!
Very useful video. Appreciation from Papua New Guinea!
Glad it was helpful! If there is any other fight scenes you'd like to see us breakdown, let us know!
I am not a BJJ practitioner but their explanations on mechanics are clear. Very interesting approach to action scenes.
Thanks Ralph! Our goal is to make this as easy to understand for everyone so they may consider taking BJJ classes! If you ever feel something was confusing, or if there are ways we can explain things easier for beginners, feel free to let us know!

@@ScenicFights Looking forward to seeing more. As person who has never gotten in a fight in their life or taken any sort of martial arts training. Love seeing the technical breakdown of fight scenes.
Nice...amazing work
love these two
We love you too!
@@ScenicFights oh absolutely!

Love a break down of the raid 2 knife fight at the end in the kitchen
First vid from the channel ... subbed!
The spazzing white belt technique 😆
You don't have to be so unpredictable that you don't know what you are doing, please check out these fighter break downs:
ua-cam.com/video/W_dKtCsIA-Y/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/5DV0Q7y2gBU/v-deo.html
IIRC, there have been a few UFC fighters over the years who similarly used crossing T or L foot work and intense practice of single leg take down defense.
Coz as soon as they get me on the ground, pretty sure they could put me in an oven and bake themselves a bitch-cake
