The practical choice is to not have kids, & buy the Miata.
Have kids, buy every kid a Miata and then make a tour together
to Anton Zuykov - I have 5 kids, and by your math (which may indeed be accurate) they'll end up costing me $2.5 million by the time I've gotten them to adulthood. And make no mistake about it...there is NOTHING that money can buy that even remotely comes close to the joy that can come from a life devoted to large family. I'd rather have my meager but rich family life than $2.5 million (or ANY sum of money). I'm hopeful that in the next couple years (as my 4th child is just about leaving the home) I may FINALLY be able to get myself a Miata after 25 years of wanting one desperately, and I'm okay with the wait. It was more than worth it.
Hehe
I really hate all the bashing these kidless people say about having kids. I wish your parents felt the same way and didn't give birth to you!
I will definitely get this car in the future, in a few years maybe. I am sick of driving a sedan all the time, most of the time I don't carry more than myself. If I get a work car like a truck or anything 4 doors, I will definitely get this.
I drive my RF (grand touring) to work every day, I get 42mpg +/-2. I drive it like crazy on country roads and it’s a lot of fun. Lots of people ask me what kinda car is it, I even get looks from Porsche owners lol. Great video!
Dude, this is one of the best (or at least one of my favorite) episodes that you've ever done.
WOW! Coming from you, HIGH praise . . . Thank you!!!!
Just bought one myself(Australia),RF GT ticked all options, Machine Gun grey, manual, (can't help myself). HAPPY' HAPPY, HAPPY !
Omg that’s the exact same thing I’m also planning to do!
update ? did you selling it what you dont like about
@@andrew001034 yeah, update? 🤔
Shame options are so limited in Oz.
Do you still have it after 2 years? and are you still HAPPY! HAPPY! HAPPY!....?
I got my ND RF in May and I already put over 8000km on it as a daily. It is not that bad, I can go light shopping without much issue. I am getting 7.2L/100km with occasionally taking it to the hills and highway driving. I think the greatest strength of this car in town is how small it is and very easy to park.
Daily driving an MX5 is a joy. You get a certain satisfaction by fitting your things into it. I did a 2000 mile road trip in my NA and it was fantastic! I hope I own an ND one day soon. I miss having a Miata.
Soul Red RF 2.0 Sport Nav is my daily and I freaking love it. You know from the online reviews what a great car it is on country roads and indeed in town. What you don’t know is it is an AWESOME motorway cruiser, comfortable enough, excellent acceleration 60 - 70+, braking spot on, darts between lanes. In Sport Nav got cruise which is nice, blind spot warning incredibly useful. Just did a 200 round mile trip today, a ton of fun, got to destination to collect daughter, turned straight round and drove home. Got home in comfort, not fatigued at all. Cannot recommend this car to you enough, miles of smiles. I’m lucky I no longer need a bigger car as a daily - I treat the boot as a large steel kit bag, everything I need/use squashes in and then some. For the idiots who decry it for lack of horsepower - IT DOESN’T MATTER - if you’re a decent driver you will love it. Get one!
This is the best car I ever owned. This is coming from someone who had GT4, Spyder , M3, M5, 1M
No f'n way, is this for real? I own a 2017 ND soft top, and I freaking love it, best car as well, but I've never had a better car, the closest I had to this is a 1984 Fiero..
prove it ?
My neighbor has a hurracan performante, 720s, 812 and gt3 RS. He didn’t say this is the best car but he say it’s the car he can push it to max have tons of fun with it and not worry about it.
It’s true. My previous three cars were a Nissan GTR, a Ford GT 350, and a Vette Z06. This blows alll three away. Literally.
Better than a Spyder? This is indeed a compliment, thought hard to believe (no offense, the Spyder is just that awesome). However, how large (or small) are you? I own a Spyder, and it's just fantastic beyond words. I drove a NC Miata a while back and felt like I was stuffed into a pillowcase. I'm not huge, 5'11" and 175 lbs. Still felt like a sardine in that thing. The ND ticks all the boxes for a replacement on that inevitable day of grief and misery when the Spyder finally gives up (will hang on to it as longs as I can, tho, even when it gets unreasonable). I would love to hear comparisons about the cockpit and thrashability between the ND and the Spyder from someone who has owned both. Test drives are NOT ownership, it takes a bit of time to really get to know these little fellas.
California duster = swirl marks. You need a detail spray and mirco fiber towel
Up until I bought an MX5 driving was dull, practical and tedious.... Now it is massive fun...
i own a miata (first car under my name). If you don't have kids and want a miata.. buy it.. It's the ultimate grocery machine, you can put a hideaway tow hitch on it that takes seconds to take off it to bicycles and what have you around, it won't break down, and it's the funnest gd car to drive on the market.
also, i didn't watch the video.. just felt a violent urge to respond to the question posed in the video on my front page
Is the blind side terrible
as a car detailer. i cringed hard when i saw the car duster
Love mine!
I was thinking gate same. not a car detailer but wouldn't that scratch the paint with the dust and other particles ?
I drove my RF in the worst snow storm Lake Tahoe had in 10 years (Feb 2016). I mounted snow chains on it to get out of there as soon as I could. Honestly, the car was slipping all over the road due to summer tires, but it was balanced like a pro. If I had known there was going to be a snow storm, I would've taken a 4x4 instead, but my MX-5 somehow got me through snow and slush without a scratch.
One of the best sports cars of all times and is the best sports car under 40k. Don’t have to be rich to drive a dream drive.
"What the dog doin?" He hittin the apex.
I have a 6-year old son, and I drive my NC or NA everyday. There's plenty of room for the both of us, my bass guitar, and two backpacks.
Where the heck do u fit a base guitar
@@johnknab5032 A bass in a gig bag will fit in the trunk or behind the driver's seat (if your have short legs). I can also fit two hardcases in the passenger seat if I don't have a passenger.
I know this is 6 years old, but as a guitarist/bassist this is a HUGE help to me. It might seem trivial to other people but cars and music are my two passions, and knowing it fits a bass in the trunk is a big advantage I didn't think it'd have. Thanks!
One of the cars you buy not for a practical usage, but for yourself
It’s like watching an episode of “Everybody Loved Raymond”
this is like a dream! a mx5 and a huge fluffy DOGGO!!!!!!!! :3
what floats your boat
i want that doge.
I have a 70lb lab, and this is the car I want to daily... debating between a used tacoma and this =/... well the 2019 version for HP bump
@@Daniel-dj7fh The 2017 tuned GTI Clubsport you see @ my channel! 👍
Do not buy a California duster if you actually love your car. Swirls galore await. Just get the ceramic color paint ceramic coated and dust will stick much less
"Drug dealers over at Costco..." TRUTH 😆
The RF is thee best looking modern car available. What a difference the RF makes from the rag top. Rag top just looks like a small convertible 350z
I own a Vette C7 and an RF (among other sports cars) and LOVE the RF it is FUN and absolutely favorite car to drive. No I wouldn't drive cross country in it, BUT it is a great mountain carver and puts a smile on my face everytime I get in it. BUY IT!!! BTW i average 37 yes 37 mpg....!
Mazda has said an update is coming that will add car play and android auto to all current models using Mazda connect. Oh also a MX5 can be a practical daily driver with one big stipulation: No kids. I'm single, never been married, no kids and I don't travel much. This car would work for me. I like your videos. Keep up the good work.
Jee Vang I don’t either and Mazda may have been promising this update for a while but from what I understand it will be retroactive meaning all models with Mazda connect will get the update. The latest version was introduced in 2014 I think.
flipfloplogic how about driving this during winter in the snow?
That's exactly how my dog looks like when he is enjoying the ride. All the curiosity in the eyes with the surroundings and yearning for more.
0:42 You could have just pushed that Mazda GoCart through the Costco and loaded it directly.
I'll never forget when my wife picked me up from the airport in her GoÇart, and I had to ride home with my luggage in my lap because it wouldn't fit in that rear glove box.
First question which came to my mind. Who needs a gallon of oregano or cinnamon? American supermarkets always amazing
Totally agree with everything that was said in this video! ... Also, your accent-free German is amazing.
What, no whip cream?
Nice to see the MotoMan again.
The ND RF is excellent and very easy to live with. The suspension is on the right side of comfortable. Its refined enough for longer trips. I have taken 4 hour trips with ease, and can average 40 mpg on the highway.
Hell yeah, an iron skillet is essential.
Funny . . . believe it or not, just introduced to me only recently. That was my SECOND one! LOVE 'EM!
As soon as I saw the pumpkin pie from Costco, I knew this was a content creator I could relate to.
They are my Kryptonite.
@@MotoManTV LOL!
While there are circumstances when a Miata will never work as a daily driver, for 90% of the time, it is not an issue. I have an NA and NB (two different locations) and while it does require a bit of planning when coming back to the car with a cart full of groceries, I've never had an issue not being able to fit everything in there. I have a bike rack for the NA. Now for runs to Home Depot, I do scratch my head a bit, but have two solutions when I need more car. 1. Friend with truck/suv or if really needed, rent a car. Disclaimer, no kids or pets. PS- How is that cast iron skillet??
Love Kumo, My Rotty loves to ride in the truck and eat pork rinds but doesn't like the radio being on.
Next time, get some Key Lime Pie from the Florida Keys and Mile Zero Bumper Sticker, or Do a ALL SEASON REVIEW and drive from the Keys to the N.E. and battle heat and snow in the same car.
Bad move using the California duster, unless you want to scratch the shit out of the paint.
You can daily it if you don't have a family, or if your family has other cars. I daily my ND RF it's so fun.
A fun car that goes and handles, and is good on fuel what else is there.
A Mazda 3
Focus ST
+Iceweasel yup, the old lightweight version
W G yep. Got myself a 2009 model 😁
And has 007 car looks
Also I drove my Miata thru the Badlands of South Dakota 88 degrees F outside the park 98 inside. I went thru the park top down with the A/C running full on the floor. I was sitting in a tub full of cold, ice cream headache cold air from the chest down. Never felt the heat. What fun.
Just had a baby boy and that is still not a reason to get rid of my car, I didn’t spend +$30k on a club limited edition just to get rid of it and not drive it everyday, the car is very much practical if you make it practical for your needs
I really wanted an NA miata but also had trouble with seeing it's practicality. Luckily I found a 2008 VW eos with a convertible glass hardtop, 4 seats and a turbocharged 2.0 engine with 6 speed manual. It's front wheel drive but still very fun to drive.
I have a '16 ND Sport that is my daily driver in New Hampshire, year round. Granted, I am retired, I don't have to go to work in the middle of snow storms, but with a full set of Blizzaks it is fine in snow, good weight distribution helps. It is perfect on the back road two lanes that are 95% of my driving, it gives me 36.7 mpg doing so. The original tires only lasted about 20K miles though, perhaps a result of almost never traveling in a straight line for very long.
Yeah this car is an attention magnet from all ppl, the volume knob literally is designed for Trex arms., and absolutely a car designed for a minimalist
Can I have some of that pumpkin pie?
My only issue would be only fitting 2 people, I’d rather remove the seat for better speeds
I get no less than 28 miles per gallon in my Fiesta ST, even though I drive it like I just committed a crime.
I'm full bolt on, on the stock turbo so this thing is way quicker than it has any business being.
And I can get a few months worth of shopping in the back.
I really wanted an MX-5, but it's slower, nowhere near as practical, no more fun to drive, and yet is more expensive.
It is beautiful though, particularly that RF.
I love it.
Perfect answer for the question i had in my mind
I have a 1.5 Style+ (Euro spec) in that same colour. Tomorrow is Sunday, and that's Miata time!
Thanks, I love your light humor, great work.
The dog sold me as a daily.
My brother has a nd and so do I
Both are soft tops .
He is a widower so for him the MX is fine as a daily driver.
I'm married but the kids have left home however our daily driver is a Hyundai i30 diesel 1.6
We bought the MX new for £21000 the Hyundai we bought second hand with 10000 miles on the clock for £9000
30 grand for both cars means practically and fun.
The MX is the 1.5 UK icon special we average around 38mpg ( imperial gallons )
The i30 around 48mpg.
So as far as we are concerned you can have your cake and eat it.
I've also seen low mileage nd mx's for around- £14000.
That in my opinion is how you can make owning one of the greatest roadsters and having a practical daily driver a viable proposition.
I recently drove the RF Club and I found it to be very cramped with the roof up. At only 5'11", sometimes I wonder how fellas over 6'0" drive this thing!
That dog is super cute, I am buying a soft top 2019 grey MX5 next month, but I think I like the dog more.
my wife has the brembo and she loves it. we are planning the supercharger for it soon
Just about to buy the wife this exact car. Awesome video buddy
Subscribed 👍👍👍👍
They should add a dynamic suspension! Would be insane!
The California Duster Part, Spot On!!! I Own a 2016 MX-5 Sport 6-Speed in Ceramic Metallic and You Definitely Need a California Duster (Which I Have, Thank GOD For amazon.com)...
there's an idea, a mini- "grand tour" of sorts with you, a reasonably-priced car for us common folks to realistically upgrade to, and 2-3 food&drink locations! plus points if the store owner/chef is a car guy/gal too.
glrogado wtf is this.
Man, dog, and machine. The trinity.
Kumo agrees!
It's good to see you're eating healthy
Practical sporty cars like the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Dodge Charger exist.
I really wish Mazda would bring back the Mazdaspeed3...
When your friend talks about kids, you counter with a 2 seater as being practical. A nice sedan would’ve been a better option, but really, as a father of two with a RX-8; I can see the appeal of suv/van ownership now; or even a Prius for a kid mover; and something like an FD RX-7 as my personal driving experience car.
Right tools for the job.
We love your UA-cam channel!
I own an '01 BMW Z3 3.0i and my DD is a Honda Accord coupe that's lease is up soon. My wife's car is an Accord Crosstour which is the family mobile. I am seriously considering an RF as my DD here in the snowbelt of Lake Erie. 90% of the time there are 2 people or less in my car so why not? I think this thing would be a hoot with a set of snow tires. Then for days when I want the full roadster experience or a dose of torque I still have the Z3.
If the price goes down under 30k or Mazda put a little horsepower (around 200). either way hella good :)
Kumo needs to be in all of your videos! :-)
Costco trips in my s2000 were fun
I didn't know my car had a trunk release beside the plates lol
How tall are you? It was confortable for you?
Where did you get a 2018 RF? Im currently looking to purchase one and all are 2017s. Sorry I just saw your sticker, your car is a 2017. I’m sure it wasn’t a ploy to make your video relevant for all of 2018. Love your vid otherwise.
It's not a 2018. The 2018's aren't even on Mazda's website yet. I anticipate some kind of updates for 2018, new colors, special edition...
yin shah dude stfu
they’re on the website check again
Reminds me of a Honda DelSol. Which, at the time, was their answer to compete with the Miata. I've owned two Miata's, and for me a full soft top is the only way to go.
Doug Norwood finnaly someone understands. Mx5 should always be softop. This s why I got my ND SOFTOP
Tried the RF and soft top, the RF in my opinion is just a bit better to live with as a daily. I appreciate the soft top for a weekend ride though. I am 5'7 though so the height loss doesn't actually affect me.
You had me at "FuzzBall".
You didn't put real whipped cream on your pumpkin pie? What's wrong with you?!! hahaha
Love the part with your dog !
i have a pacifica hybrid in addition to my 2019 RF club...the solution is to have both (or more!) :D Love the CPH, we put gas in it maybe 8 times a year...
nice job tetris-ing your costco haul :)
This is essentially a lotus Elise with creature comforts.
Love the dog ! Samoyed ? I also like pecan pie and the RF !! I have been spoilt today . I laugh when you go wild in the US about 25mpg in town , lawn mower consumption for you here in Europe that is a gas guzzler !
2:50 "Now before you and I get too far down the road here." But I want to see one of those on a long road trip without using motels.
love your videos, and the ceramic white !
the soul red is amazing, but white is sick.
25 mpg on premium. i was getting 25 mpg in my 09 mazdaspeed 3 250hp 296tq.
gladly downgraded to a prius getting 55 plus mpg. def makes me a granny driver. can't really drive aggressive with 100 horse. no fun either. :(
i was only getting 17 mpg driving a 93 rx7. the fun factor justified the gas consumption.
Please viewers and presenter, don't ever clean a car with a "duster"! It is the equivalent of rubbing sand paper on your paint. Bring along a few plush microfiber towels and a good spray detailer/lubricant. Goodness!!!
Hi MotoMan, I have the roadster Aus "GT" spec, a '16 car I picked up in January this year. I wish it didn't have leather, but I couldn't get GT without it, I envy those cloth seats, my test drive had them, only thing I want. You can keep your V8, I otherwise love this thing to pieces :)
Add a fixed hardtop for those lives in plenty of rain and birds areas. Then I will be interested in one.
Lok Tom or just not put the top down lol 😂😂
It is hardtop
Very good review, love the humour and presentation style!
The people who talk to their dogs are the best people
You sold me with the white husky in the passenger seat. We have a white husky as well, and my wife wants this car but wanted to be able to take the dog for a ride lol
9:21 Nice Converse!
I noticed you had bottles of Coke in your shopping cart. A lot of police departments carry coke bottles in their cars in case of emergencies. They use it to clean blood up from accidents and murder scenes. What are you using it for?
Ed Kelly why would a policeman clean up the murder scene???? And with coke?? Lmao
Who the F told you that?!
I guess it is for when someone is having diabetic issues.
Too much CSI for you lol
good one.
I'm surprised Kumo doesn't have a harness while driving.
Why the f would anyone buy 1 kg of Oregano?
I started thinking why not put little round lights in the front. Then I started thinking "well that would make it a tvr speed 12!". Total rip off in design. Still nice though
Did anyone else cringe when he pulled out that tool to wipe a supposedly dusty dry car?
No. California Dusters are actually quite effective at removing dust from an otherwise clean car. I have two of them. There are cheap imitations that don't work nearly as well. The California dusters have a special coating on the fibers.
No, its not my car.
No, but I cringed when he put his dog into the car without a harness. Priorities, eh?
I came so so close to buying this car but it just didn't fit with my lifestyle. Single no kids however, I am very active so the Miata just didn't work for me. Purchased the GTI instead
They got rid of ceramic color for 2020.. sad.. wish they offered it with red interior sigh
I think I like the dog better than the car, and I am buying a 2019 Soft top in two weeks. Guess I will be better moving out so I can have a dog.
Great video, a unique take.
When will they get rid of that ugly antenna though???
I support having dog seat belts, image God forbid a car accident with that dog loose. God keep you safe all..
The Miata is an amazing car. Handles better than a 200,000 car
