I discovered this great work during Holy Week and Easter of 1960 when I was in the military stationed at Fort Lewis, WA. When I was separated and returned home to Maryland that June, one of the first things I did was go to a music store and get an LP of the work. The cover had both the German and an English translation. Sadly, I let that LP get away from me over the years. But I love the work, especially the chorus "Kommt, eilet und laufet:" where Mary Magdalene and another Mary go to Jesus' tomb only to find it empty. And they run to Peter and the other disciples. Praise be to God and God's son, Jesus our Savior.

Musica divina! Non sono tanto religioso. Questa musica, fatto da un uomo religioso, apre una finestra da una divina parte del mondo. E' un gran piacere sentirla.
Dankeschön 😍 😍 😍. Grazie. Saluti dalla Germania del nord
Since I listen to and compare many Bach's performances ,
I can understand the talent , ability and skill of the performers .
There is something extraordinary in their breathtaking performances
I can't entirety complain about their performances
Their performances are overwhelmingly outstanding .

Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun 🇯🇵
A performance of great quality, with excellences both in the instrumental ensemble and among the vocal soloists. The choir is majestic.
The camera-work is so so so excellent to match this wonderful performance! I love watching the singer's heads bobbing in time to the opening Sinfonia which shows they are allowing themselves to "get into it!" NBS are the finest and best musicians and singers in the world (IMO!)
Yes , editing is superb !
Amen! Come quickly Lord Jesus , Son of Joseph of Judah (Rev 22:16) of the son of Jessè and king David.!!!
Che delizia per le nostre anime la tua Musica. Che fortuna abbiamo noi che sappiamo gustare le tue dolci note....Grazie J.S.Bach. 🎶🎼🎻🎺💖🌈🌞
I recently DISCOVERED the Netherlands Bach Society. And I mean Discovered, as in finding something beautiful and intriguing.
I found them too. But courage to you. They sing with lots of love to Jesus and God. Hard to stay atheist among such love. Even harder when you read the text (translation available).
@@aliasreco Atheism is much closer to humanism and "uncommanded" emotions than any religion will ever be. Kindness is a philosophical position, not the result of stone age religious views.
@@TheAtheist22 Thanks. But you do risk to find Jesus behind the music.. Bach did. And many others did too. (not all of the players and listeners to be honest)
@@aliasreco I’ve played Bach all my life. Apart from the beauty of his music, never found any Jesus. Bach did not “find” anything. It was given to him through religious education, which in my opinion, is child abuse and has to stop.
@@TheAtheist22 I'm sorry. I found so much. And it certainly was no child abuse.
Easter Sunday, 2020: Happy Easter, everyone. Enjoy this beautiful music, and remember that despite what is going on in the world, Christ is risen, and he's in charge.
In charge??
mark miller Christ est ressuscité ,Il est vraiment ‘ressuscité !
Easter is next week
For the Orthodox, yes. So Happy Easter to you next week.
Amen
How can hundreds of users dislike such a masterpiece?
No musical taste whatsoever!
Either they are raging heathens, or tone deaf, brutish jackals who thought they were on the death metal, Metallica UA-cam home page.
But there a 10,000 of these bastards to every one of us, Sobering
I'll be 68 this year and when I was growing up, there were at least 2 Classical Music radio stations in town and concerts were heavily promoted... And there was a concert hall and some of the larger churches and cathedrals also hosted concerts...
And then there was the Public Broadcasting System ( PBS ) that televised concerts and also broadcast them on its radio stations...
But, that is
@@horationelson57
You are absolutely correct and sadly as well...😟
And now, Oxford University and others are going after written music to appease C.S. Lewis' "trousered apes" ( actually real apes might have a greater appreciation...😉 )...
There is no way that Bach's or any other composers' music can be played without a musical score...
So much for Oxford at al... / sarcasm
Bach is so much better than I ever knew.
Epikoa da Bach eta bertsio hau paregabea. Euskal Herritik, eskerrik asko/Thank you very much from the Basque Country.
There is nothing like the utter joy of Easter music to make me feel hopeful, even though it's Christmas (and grey and a pandemic and I have a huge amount of grading to get done because my pandemic-affected students had trouble getting work in on time, and ...). So joy, utter joy. I might have this lovely Oratorio on repeat today. Thank you, Netherlands Bach Society!!!!
He is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia! SDG
Heaven on earth. Thanks so much 💙
Thanks for publishing, God bless you, Jesus loves you :)
Amen! Glory to God in the highest, He IS risen. One can only imagine Bach’s works he writes now as he’s in the courts of heaven, writing for the orchestra of angels
I thank God for J.S Bach and for NBS!!! This ensemble is truly magnificent!!
It’s Easter again and I am submerging myself again into the sublime music by these über-gifted musicians. And the filming stays about of the world experience too. That look out of the window..... tears of gratitude for this gift. Thank you.
There is a silver lightning to everything. Thanks to the Covid 19, we can listen to Bach all day. His celestial music transcends all the vagaries of life. As long as we can listen to his music, life remains an eternal wonder.
Silver lining I think you mean... But on second thounghts silver lightning is perhaps a good description of this!
Another powerfull piece of music from Bach, marvelous interpretation from Netherlands Bach Society - thank you so much for sharing this recording !
Agreed, Guillaume! By the way, I kindly recommend the appreciation of the work of a living classical composer dedicated mostly to sacred music. I feel myself like a sort of non-official ambassador for his music - and, effectively, also one of his few supporters. He is very, very talented. You won't be disappointed. ua-cam.com/users/WFerdinand
Happy Easter everyone!!!
GREAT ORCHESTRA!!!!!!!! BRAVOOOO!!!!!
Beautiful. We very much enjoy early music performed on period instruments, and are also trying to produce, record and present similar concerts, videos and CDs.
I will never get tired of listening the sinfonia of this great Oratorio !!
Pohlazení pro duši. Pěkný zvuk a také povedené video. / Prachtig.
Praise God for this! The Lord is risen! He is risen indeed! Hallelujah!
To be able to go back in time and celebrate Easter in Leipzig in 1725, but having to make do with these guys and Maria Keohan's voice is no bad thing.
Agreed, George! By the way, I kindly recommend the appreciation of the work of a living classical composer dedicated mostly to sacred music. There is always the Bach Song I haven't heard before and I heard countless hours > 100h.
Слушая эту пасхальную ораторию это чудо, которое радует душу, а также тело. Христос воскрес. Он действительно воскрес.
Bach's music is rooted in human reality yet points us to something brighter and higher that we all aspire to.
None better to express joy than Bach and Mozart!
Not having heard this ensemble before, I was surprised and delighted how good this performance was :)
The Netherlands Bach Society never disappoints John.
I was overwhelmed by their skills when I discovered them. Agree that they are really underrated for what they can do.
This is so beautiful. I can hardly stand it-----Totally makes my Easter Season. Soli Deo Gloria!!
Excellent..... Roaring singers, gallopping instrumentalists and vibrant conductor all paying tribute to the Kappelmeister JSB
Dificult to think a most perfect performance.
The "Voice of God" (Bach in words of Wynton Marsalis) is very well represented by this incredible musicians and his genius director.
Thanks and congratulations from Argentina.
So beautiful and hopeful--something which we need so much of right now. Even the setting is light and hopeful.
Brilliant und musikalisch hochwertig zum Klingen gebracht. Musik, gut für Heilung von Geist und Seele. "Bravissimo" und liebe Grüße aus Düsseldorf
Brilliant and musically high-quality made to sound. Music, good for healing mind and soul. "Bravissimo" and greetings from Düsseldorf
Briljant en muzikaal hoogwaardig gemaakt om te klinken. Muziek, goed voor het helen van geest en ziel. "Bravissimo" en groeten uit Düsseldorf
This music bring tears of joy to my eyes! Bravo, J.S. Bach and Netherlands Bach Society!
Really inspiring performance! Maria Keohane is the very highlight among the soloists.
Bach hits the ground running in this joyous piece, never lets up on the pace.
Easter Day, the NBS conducted by Van H, and the Easter Oratorio by Bach - it doesn't get any better than this. One keeps coming back to this particular performance. So fitting; so uplifting; the world renews itself (one can hope).
It's kindda of music that brings the heavens close to us, I had never seen before some instruments like those.
Just a brilliant performance as always from Netherlands Bach Society brings us closer to heaven. please keep up your excellent performances. of Bachs great works .
Mar 31st 1685, one among the greatest days of the human history
SOME PEOPLE VOTE "THUMBS DOWN". WHAT CAN THEY BE LISENTING TO? THIS IS THE FINEST PERFORMANCE OF BACH CANTATAS AMONG ALL OTHERS. SO WHAT´S YOUR PROBLEM PLEASE? IT IS DISRESPECT FOR THE VERY BEST ARTISTS.
Couldn't agree more.
The musicians here are immune to a thumbs-down. The people who voted this down are dead inside. They are afraid and in the darkness, so they lash-out. Have pity---and beware of being slashed in the night.
It's a mystery to me, too. I believe they are "serial dislikers" who would dislike even their own mommy. Just envy, perhaps.
I can't believe so many people that watch youtube videos actually notice or care about how many THUMBS DOWN responses are given. Why would you care? What possible difference does it make to the magnificence of the music or of the performance, and in particular to your enjoyment of it? What's your problem? If it weren't for comments such as yours I wouldn't have known that anyone had given the video a THUMBS DOWN as I never pay any attention to those things. Your comment is more ANNOYING and DISTRACTING than what it's directed at. Just enjoy the video!
I agree with you wholeheartedly@@wertherquartett, but you did read and respond. Of course the Netherlands Bach Society couldn't care less. Although they do read the comments and sometimes respond.
Thanks a lot for sharing. Thanks to youtube your concert brings us Easter joy instead of the covid pandemy. Bravo to one of you! Cheers from France.
40:45 Imagine the triumphant entry of Jesus In heaven after defeating death, conquering hell and saving humanity redeeming all creation and opening heaven for us. All the hords of souls he rescued from hell, all the hosts of angels saluting Him.
Bach is a Land of sober and rich spirit
This performance is far superior splendor
Eine beispielhafte - großartige Interpretation des ollen Bach !!
Mit sehr großer Anerkennung+einem besonderem Dank der

All of Bach, a magnificent discovery
You are great guys! But the best part are lirics in English here. Most of people who call themselves fans of J.S.Bach even don't know that this is worship music, and J.S was an chosen one by God. Thank you so much for educating all this ignorants. Bless you!😊
So wonderful to wake up to this marvellously joyous work on Easter morning!
