Einfach wunderbar!
Another awesome job done NBS! Entire ensemble demonstrating wholesome understanding of the composition, hard to match musical and technical skills and, last but certainly not least a recording master REALLY knowing how to make the very best of an acoustically favourable venue. All in all: 11 out of 10.
I just discovered you before Christmas 2022, and you have added so much beauty and pleasure to my life in the last few weeks! Your group is stunning and illustrates the principle of Divine Perfection in your singing and musicianship. Thank you so much for being here! 🤩

what an outstanding ensemble, what glorious music. I particularly love the alto aria accompanied by the low rumble and earthen timbre of the low strings. Awesome.
My gratitude to all who made this wonderful gift to humanity: NBS musicians and singers performing Bach's cantatas. I become mesmerized each and every time I watch them on UA-cam! Thanks also for inviting my favorite alto Luciana Mancini ( I watched her sing in Vivaldi's oratorio Juditha triumfans with an exquisite artistry ). Thank you, W. Brouwer!

What a grandiose piece, which I have never heard before! While listening, I couldn't help asking myself what other composer it reminded me, then I found it: Telemann, with his excellent mastery of colorful orchestration. And also Vivaldi, in some ways, for both lyrism and religious compositions. Anyway, a remarkable piece, played by dedicated musicians.
Bach learned to write melodies from Vivaldi, after his music became available to the place Bach was working at the time, he obviously could have taken more knowledge or inspiration from Vivaldi -since we can't know for sure-, but i havent read anyone claiming he learned more than melodies from Vivaldi
Bach's genius is present and recognizable from the first to the last note of the Trauer Ode. In the last choir, Bach's idea of making the choir sing in unison when the words "Sie ist der Tugend Eigentum" etc. are said, is absolutely brilliant. Those are the words "we would like to read", as is sung before. The perfect agreement of all of us is translated into Bach music with unison. Chills!
I am revisiting this work after discovering it recently, as a subscriber. The performance from this group always exceeds expectations. Such reverence for the music and it’s meaning. We are blessed to be “present”. Thanks.
Chapeau bas !
I did not know this piece until I heard it here. What a wonderful introduction to it! I shall return again and again to listen to this. Wonderful singing and playing! Thank you NBS!
The Traur ode must be the no most beautiful and moving piece that Bach ever wrote so wonderfully played thank you to this special group of musicians and singers I absolutely loved it 😂
Mancini is a goddess! Whata rich tone, and equally good in Latin (Vivaldi's Juditha Triumphans) as with this magnificent piece in German. And has been said many times, NBS is just perfect.
Prachtig! Ontroerend mooie uitvoering.
The last concert that I went to was on the 12th of March, 2020. The next day everything started to shut down, even the bar we visited before going. It’s been a full year now. Can’t wait for normal to return!
It is very interesting how Bach control the composition according with the situation, here a funeral cantata. The recitations and aries are with a great number, given a lent cantata movement, although the orchestration is outstanding .The soprano, alto, tenor and bass are great voices.
20:57 - this followed the sermon in the funeral service. After the sermon used words to show the importance of the electress this piece put it to music. This is a very meaningful and technically tough piece. Today it is good for cleaning out the sinuses.
Bach - not only the great composer, but also the great dramaturge! Most passionate performance. I wish the starting point could be a little bit slower, in order to prolong the enjoyment of hearing the beautiful performance. Bravi to the conductor, the choir, the orchestra and all the soloists. Thanks NBS!

It is hard to believe but under the direction of Vaclav Luks and Shunske Sato the NBS is even growing in dynamics, phrasing, expression and care for detail. This is a very deep and emotional performance. In the unsurpassed aria 'Wie starb die Heldin so vergnügt!' the tones of the lutes fall like tears fall from the soul and one feels how sad and 'laborious' it is to die and to let go. Sterven is een werkwoord..
I prefer this live recording to their original. It has a much warmer cohesive sound. The other was great too. It's all miraculous what this group does.
I’d enjoy playing with the conductor; he has an articulate approach that seems in keeping with Baroque performance. The opening aria of part II is an incredible moment of Bach’s continuing musical transcendence.
Another Terrific J.S.Bach creation and wonderful interpretation; I´m really impressed with the team from the Netherlands Bach Society. Thanks for share with Us; is a valuable experience
This was an absolute joy to listen to! There's usually no point to highlight anyone in such great music by musicians that are among the best, but sometimes i guess we do in the nature of baroque art, because the "Wie starb die Heldin so vergnugt!" along with it's recitative is to me one of the most beautiful not only soprano, but vocal performances I've heard in a while and it was quite inspiring
I found this Cantata quite different from those I am used to hear (perhaps due to my ignorance). Indeed, a wonderful one in its music. As to Netherlands Bach Society, I'll never get how their choirs can perform with such an amazing sonority with so little number of persons. Outstanding execution!
It is different because it is a secular cantata, therefore it is not liturgical music and does not contain, for example, Lutheran chorales. Although it is a funeral cantata, it did not accompany any rite but was written for a civil commemoration for the death of Christiane Eberhardine, formally Queen of Poland but who was never enthroned because she refused to convert from Lutheranism to Catholicism. The style is typical of these works, for example the first chorus is essentially a large funeral march of the "French" style (in dotted rhythm), the recitatives are strongly characterized in dramatic style (with extended declamatory passages tending towards the arioso) and the arias include parts for obbligato instruments and have a character that is all in all quite "operatic" even if it is very elaborate music and serious in tone (given the subject). Even the final chorus, in the form of a rondo, although rather severe in thone is reminiscent of the concluding choruses of certain baroque melodrams where the moral of the story is affirmed. In this case there is no moral but there are the only vey vague religious references in the entire cantata.
My favourite Bach-Cantata (or Bach-piece) in a terrific version. Especially the ending-choir with its unison-parts is rousing and generates goose-bumps. Like Gardiners recording it also has the right tempo. Sara Mingardo became younger? Oh no, its Luciana Mancini! Could be Mingardo's daughter...and also her voice is similar. A real belladonna.

@Tom Berryhill I don't think so! Suzuki has recorded the whole aria, as have Koopman and Gardiner.
The archlute's arm is so big that it always seems to be on the scene. This is cool.
The ever intrusive Theorbo necks! Hahaha

Bach probably employed two mandoras in this cantata. Such instruments would have had an easier time cutting through the ensemble.
