DropForgedSurvival I would go in Texas all good stuff there for survival and when I saw your videos it looks pretty nice but when I would do it I would only give myself $$150 to use no fool can buy can’t buy no food only stops to survive but you can buy water supply
Is there any way to not get stung be bees? I get stung so easily, but I don't attack the bees. Usually, a bee comes near me. Then I just run. But I still get stung at times. Please give me some feedback.
M’kay. I’m in love with Chris’s goofy personality. That sort of attitude makes attrition bearable. Plus he’s got that dad-bod, so...ya girls a HAPPY camper 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
For the price of those mountain house meals you could’ve got 20 packs of ramen. Also for the price of that survival kit which you only used 1 or 2 items from you could’ve got a complete fishing kit with a micro rod, fishing line, hooks, bobbers, sinkers and a few lures. Love the videos.
He could have bought a decent axe for $15 bucks and a cheap knife for 10or 20$ an actual tarp or emergency thermal tarp for 11 with actual grommets,A hank of 100ft Paracord for 8$, a Stanley stainless steel kit for 15$, A wet dry bag for $5 (that would hold more than the one he got), a 10$ roll of 55 gal contractor bags( carry water, make bedding, poncho, hammock), bottle of bleach for disinfecting water (or just boil it), then an 18 count carton of eggs( ration all week), 1lb bags of beans and rice, pack of ramen, beef jerky then bought a pac of Bic lighters!
It seems everyone is an expert. Yet You're the 1 out there on a $100 budget...Personally, I've enjoyed watching, and I appreciate the effort You've put into this expedition. Your attitude is mostly positive, You're humor is still in tact...I get why You dug out steps, after seeing your boots & very little hand holds to keep You from heading downhill in a hurry. Looking forward to the next 3 days...For all the naysayers, put out your own $100, 1 week survival video, and let's see how it works out for You...This fellow appears to be honest, not cheating, and for $100, relatively successful...Get off his ass. He admits he's not an expert & asks for advice...
DropForgedSurvival & TWO GOLD TOOFAS well in the same line of thought as the previous comment- I am one of those who criticised but I’m hoping that what I said is somewhat of a positive criticism! I also enjoyed watching the video so there’s no reason to get upset! It’s all in the name of doing it better!
"Pecans and onions doesn't sound like a survival food" -- VERY MUCH sounds like a survival food. It's what you found foraging. That's real survival food and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. ... and to the guys hatin' on him, remember the budget, and remember he's still learning which is important too. We can't all be experts at everything! I know in that climate I'd be utterly lost, even though up here in backwoods New Hampshire I'd put him to shame. I'm looking at his terrain and thinking "dude, you're screwed" Though I envy him all the dry wood, dry kindling, dry jute... I've NEVER had a fire go up that quickly even with matches and/or lighters to get started, much less a striker. Everything's just too wet 'round these parts. Part of why I liked in an earlier video where he envied the pine boughs and other such shelter conveniences. Something I totally take for granted... whilst I'm watching him make a fire and thinking "damn, how can it be that easy?" -- only time we even come close to that is late august.
As long as you are having fun, or at least feeling the satisfaction of your accomplishments.. you are golden! That’s what it’s all about. Stay real and walk your own “trail”. 😀 P.S. I’m living vicariously through you while I watch! My family thinks I’m crazy.. I’m 53 and my Mom, Daughter and Husband all “forbid” me to do something like this alone.. but heck, nobody wants to do it but me! So yeah, I’m enjoying watching you and Zach and everyone who actually gets off their butts and does something outdoors. 😊
I feel that’s what these challenges are all about, challenging yourself, pushing yourself to your absolute limits. Enjoy it! You embarked out on a 7 day, $100 Walmart challenge. The title alone is what brought me to your channel and after the first video I was subscribed and hooked (unlike the catfish lol) keep up the good work, I solute you.
Something you could have tried to make sleeping more comfortable, would have been to make a pile of grasses under your tube tent to be softer to lie upon. Also if you were cold, building the fire closer with a large flat stone standing vertical on the far side of the fire to reflect heat toward your tent.
So something to think about is the cost of the mountain man meals are expensive about 10 a bag. Maybe wonder over to the grocery side, pick up some oats and other cheaper food?
To have more water every bowl from the cooking set could have been used for water storage so every time you went to the creek you fill the empty ones up then you could have had 6 liters in camp all the time. Just a thought.👏🏻👏🏻👍
Besides the hatchet set you bought that you don`t use, you could have gotten 7 boxes of rice a roni & 7 cans of chicken, for the price you paid for those freeze dried eggs. Fiska hatchet (in hardware dept), $10 for the short $15 for the long. Dull pocket knife (you wont get a sharp knife at walmart) $3, sharpening stone $3. 8`` folding fry pan $8. I can see where it would be a survival challenge, with all that crap you bought. The water filter & bags were smart, I`ll give ya that one.
So i usually go through and read a good portion of the comments. Well i'm shocked that not one person has stated or even suggested saving the bags off the MH meals cleaning them out and filling them with the filtered clean water, would easily give you atleast a gallon or two of water plus resealable so aint no dang bugs be getting in there. Would also use the cooking system bag as a secondary foraging bag. Still say honestly the only thing i would have taken differently the food situation, would have gotten one of the noodles & chicken MH meals and 4 or so idahoan instant potato packs. Everything else might have been the same except for maybe the multi pack of stuff left over from the holiday.
Hey so not sure if you'll see this you might because you have a smaller channel but might not due to it being an older video, anyways a couple of tips from me as a park ranger I've kinda been trained for this stuff and when you go to collect water collect from the fastest moving part of the stream, bacteria can't live there and dirt will get thrown to the bottom of the rapid. Also use the unfiltered water to cook when boiled it'll kill everything if anything in the water and then you can save your filtered water. One last thing those life straws, unless your doing it off camera you usually have to blow water back out through it to clean it because after those microfibers filter so much gunk they get dirty and then allow the gunk to get through. But to me every thing else looks really good. It's not necessary but you could easily mix mud clay with tall grass and put on and in-between the wood on your shelter to improve warmth, waterproofing, and wind protection like I said not necessary but it's a quick project that really pays off if not that at least a thick layer of grass and leaves. With that said love the vids keep up the good work.
I know some of the comments are harsh, but many of us are really enjoying what you are doing and a little jealous we aren't doing it ourselves right now. But some of the comments are constructive and I hoep you see those
You asked what we would bring that is different, so, tarp instead of emergency tent, I would have skipped the catfish hooks for panfish hooks since the are usually easier to catch. Lastly, I would have skipped the mountain house for bags of beans and rice. That’s just personal differences though, you have done a great job!!!
One thing I would have done differently is ditch the overpriced mountain house food. For the money you could've gotten like instant potatoes, peanut butter, or even a jug of protein powder supplement that would last you even longer than the 7 days and more calories a day.
It would then be a seven day picnic 🧺 though not a bad idea at all. An aspect of this Challenge was to in fact run out of food in the purposes of having to go out and figure out how to keep eating in the woods.
Taking food is always a good idea. I'm amazed he hasn't taken the time to sharpen his tools. Also surprised he didn't do more with the shelter, not sure how much some sticks are gonna help block rain or wind and protect the fragile mylar.
Familiar with the climate where he is. Big rain is unlikely that time of year. The frame he built will pretty much protect the shelter from wind and deadfall
You have a great attitude and even experts can learn some new. Just keep having fun and keep doing what your doing. Ignore the haters, most of them have NEVER been off their couch!!!!
I would had bought only one pan. I would have bought peanut butter to eat and a small hammer. You can use the back of the hammer for digging. A real tarp and a cheap sleeping bag. You could stuff grass in your coat to stay warm and also, on the ground to make a softer bed.
Hey here is a thought! Maybe you should have hung on to the walmart sacks from the checkout. Technically it is a part of your purchase. You could have used it for water storage (of course you need to be really careful not to poke a hole) or even foraging storage. Love the content!
I am not a bush crafter. Don’t know a thing about foraging but would love to learn. I have done a lot of camping and just started backpacking. I think your doing just fine. As you said you’re still learning. For me I think I would’ve made different food choices. Much cheaper food out there. I probably would go with a cheap tarp too. I enjoy watching watching and learning from you!!
I also wonder why you didn't use that table for a part of your shelter? You could have wrapped the survival blanket around the sides...placed a mat of sticks along one side tied with bark...quicker to make.
Man, at this point I'm watching the whole way through just to see if this guy finally gets a catfish! Those onions would go perfect with it... Nobody spoil it for me!
I appreciate the time you put into these videos, can’t wait for the next one. Thanks. My fiancé tells me to put your videos on the tv ha. You’ve got 2 fans here.
Alot of people in the comments are saying how it could be done better. I think you did pretty good 7 days in the wild with only maybe 2k of calories you brought is pretty hard.
He did good in a city boy way. He made a reference to a bugout location before, this may not be that location. 2k calories in a week, no. that is not survival that is a slow painful death. He bought stupid shit he didn't need or use. This was an example of what not to do.
@@scottrennie7382 i mean i see what u are saying. But its a good way to learn. Im sure he seen what he could of done better afterwards. The challenge was to survive with minimal tools.
@@scottrennie7382 i mean he could of brought a tarp alot of food and water and sat under a tree, but thats not really testing yourself its just sleeping outside.
Hey man. I was thinking and maybe next time- take the water filter to the stream with you- fill- then drink as much as you can/want to- then fill to take back to camp. Do that everytime and you save trips and stay better hydrated. Cool videos man
Can you please make a survival challenge in a colder climate? I live out north around New York. It is currently winter and most of the wood is wet since it snows really often. How could I start a fire with wet wood?
OMG I am your biggest fan. I love your videos. I watch your videos everyday, or when you upload. You are an inspiration. I love watching your walmart survival gear shopping series. You do a lot of great work. This series especially. Keep up the good work.
Belly button fluff is always good tinder, also a lot of dead wood is actually quite dry on the inside. And you would be surprised at how fast you can dry out moss.
Really appreciated your honesty and upbeat style! And also I can see you are learning at the same time as the viewers. The location and time of year has a big effect on bushcraft techniques and local knowledge...
do you have a small garden at your bug out location? if not you should make a small potato garden, they dont need very much water at all, they might look weird if you dont water them but the will still grow.
Awesome frank conversation at the end, and congratulations on your onions. Looking forward to seeing the rest of this trip, and many more in the future.
Thank you for the video! Have you tried the "Mors Kochanski super shelter"? With this budget, it may have been possible. May have allowed you to use some clothing items for a pillow or sleeping pad. Keep up the good work.
Regarding the comment(s) you received from other viewers about trying to catch fish first, I think you made the obvious best choice of shelter over food. Perhaps it would be good to discuss survival priorities in one of your videos. My understanding is that survival priorities are almost always: 1. Shelter, 2. Water, 3. Fire, 4. Food.
I would have skipped the knife kit and stayed with just the saw and a cheap knife. Also would have gotten actual fishing gear, more Maylar blankets for warmth and a cheap tarp. Instead of expensive Mountain House Meals, canned salmon/Ramon/etc. saves some money and had way more food. $1 lighter is worth it. One cheap pot is all I’d have chosen. Really appreciate the time and effort put into these videos. Keep it up!
DropForgedSurvival only put the comments on there cause you asked me to in the video. :) I mean really, a cheap tent, 1 pot, 1 Sawyer Mini, 1 lighter and a case of Ramon and we could all probably survive a week. But wouldn’t be very interesting for a video. Lol 😂
If I am ever in a "have to" or want to situation, I'll think back on your videos and try not to fret. It seems like a lot of "simple" camp tasks will take me longer than I would guess and keeping in touch with our Father above, is always a good idea. Thank you for your videos. Make a hobo fishing reel on a chunk of wood and do a little "cast" fishing.
Hi!! Have you tried Flowler’s fishing spot ? He once used a pecan for bait ....... And you are doing awesome! Another guy on UA-cam has done a $250 dollar Walmart challenge. You are winning with $150 dollar less of equipment. Impressive!
The bone is great and all...but why not just use the cheapo hatchet. It's not good as a hatchet...but could be good as a digging tool or other type of chopper. Also, the machete would have come in handy when setting your lines. You plow through too much brush. Love the series so far. Everyone's a critic to some degree (me included), but you had fun, you learned a lot, and you brought us along for the ride!
Adirondack mountains in New York. Good variety of small game and the views are awesome. Have you ever thought about planting things that would grow on their own in your bug out land?
Next time buy some cheap trash bags35 gallon ones you could have stuffed them with leaves and tall grass or whatever you could find and they would have made mattresses
Was curious on the challenge, which you did well BTW. Why 2 mountain home meals? Wouldn't Ramin and beans and rice been cheaper and provide a lot more calories?
Pecans and onions together isn't weird if you use them to make a coating on catfish. There was a restaurant in San Marcos, Texas just off the river that served a pecan encrusted catfish filet, it was amazing! Besides pecans and caramelized onions it also had cilantro (possible to find wild in South Texas) and lime juice (highly unlikely to find wild) but if you just have pecans and onions to put on catfish that is fancy enough for a bush meal.
Depending on how much time I have to build it I would go around to garage sales looking for bargain tools and such. Failing that I would go to various stores.
I would’ve had a different load out but I have different skill sets, not better, just different. If you’re focused on hunting/fishing section then some dedicated bait would’ve been on my list. Maybe a slightly better knife, single cooking pot, cordage, saw, hard to say exactly. Im going to have to try this at some point but I don’t have the funds to do 7 days right now
Doesn't seem like you are utilizing your tent properly. That material is designed to catch radiation and reflect it back as heat. If your fire could be placed in a position that would allow the radiation to enter threw the door on one side it would bounce around and heat it much more efficiently. Then just block off the other end as best as you can. Or if its big enough shorten it and fold the reflective material over on one end. I dont mean put the fire dangerously close to the tent, the radiation from it will go a good distance. Essentially if the inside was getting a orange glow from the fire it would most likely be getting the radiation as well.
You got those wild onions and you were like YEAAAAH! LOL, my wifes like wth are you watching? Im like oh he found wild onions, shes like oh who cares, im like onions in the forest babe, shes like so, im like nvm lol.
Hey I just learned something. I never knew how to ID wild onions. I was just sitting out on my front porch and I look down and see this tube shaped grass sticking up. So I go and uproot it and bingo! Wild Onions! Great education!
I guess it wouldn't be a challenge then for him, as you could easily bring 7 days of food then. But of course in a real emergency that's smarter i guess.
A little heavier, but yeah. You could buy meal bars, rice, etc. For much less than he spent. Maybe a cheap jug and some coffee filters. Add some charcoal from the fire and you've got a decent filter and a large water supply. Just boil it to kill germs. No need for the fancy straw and water bags he's using.
I have a question. Why in the world didn't you take the filter with you to fill water bag? I would have filled bag and hydrated then refilled and went to camp. By doing it your way you are getting less water and more trips to get it.
@@DropForgedSurvival cool I will go back and look for it. I love your videos and was not trying to sound like a douche I sincerely was wondering. And missed the answer before
@@DropForgedSurvival , Chris I see the pinned post about filtering the water and I totally agree you need to filter for safety. I am wondering why not filter and hydrate while at creek then refill and you won't have to drink part of your water immediately after returning to camp. I am still looking for that answer if I missed it. I apologize if I am coming across wrong I am just wondering if there is a reason not to filter immediately.
I think I would have dropped the mountainhouse food. Maybe gone with some dried beans instead and some cheap protein like spam. I would have gone with a tarp and a wool blanket instead of your tube tent. Those two changes probably would have been enough to get some basic fishing gear.
*Hey Group: If you could do this 7 Day challenge anywhere in the world.. Where would you go and why?*

Im just here to make videos and learn to be better. Nothing more
He did good in a city boy way.
Cool videos man
Not a horrible piece of info! Thanks bud
Can you please make a survival challenge in a colder climate?
I live out north around New York. It is currently winter and most of the wood is wet since it snows really often. How could I start a fire with wet wood?
That would probably have to wait until next year for another winter challenge.
OMG
I am your biggest fan. I love your videos. I watch your videos everyday, or when you upload. You are an inspiration. I love watching your walmart survival gear shopping series. You do a lot of great work. This series especially. Keep up the good work.
Hand sanitizer and cotton wool it takes flame every time and burns up to 10 min
Belly button fluff is always good tinder, also a lot of dead wood is actually quite dry on the inside. And you would be surprised at how fast you can dry out moss.
Hey Jason, checkout UA-cam channel "My Self Reliance" lots of cold weather and Shawn is awesome
Really appreciated your honesty and upbeat style! And also I can see you are learning at the same time as the viewers.
The location and time of year has a big effect on bushcraft techniques and local knowledge...
Use the empty food bags to carry extra water for washing or refilling the filter bag .
I’m just binge watching your stuff man crazy good
I think he really is going insane
I did get a tad loopy lol
Descent into madness.....
You’re burning a lot of calories for not a lot of return!!!
He not crazy but hole
So glad I've found your channel!! Never been in a situation even close to this but it is sooo interesting to watch 😍
Thanks alot Alayna
Should of tied a dead stick to your line to use as a bobber so the bait can float and the fish see it
do you have a small garden at your bug out location? if not you should make a small potato garden, they dont need very much water at all, they might look weird if you dont water them but the will still grow.
We are working on growing drought resist plants and such for sure
Hey man, you keep asking us questions here’s one for you. Would you have spent your money differently now knowing how cheap that kit was?
In some ways yes. But that is what learning is all about
Awesome videos man. JW what the point of the ribcage around the shelter was if you weren't going to fill it in with debris?
Awesome frank conversation at the end, and congratulations on your onions. Looking forward to seeing the rest of this trip, and many more in the future.
Thanks alot
I would also get a smal bag of salt and a soap for 1st aid.
I'm a fairly experienced outdoorsman, seems to me he's way too clean considering he says he's been out there for 4 days now...
Nice video..only thing I would do differently is cut the tops off the onions and leave the roots to regrow for a later harvest ..nice job though.
Thank you for the video! Have you tried the "Mors Kochanski super shelter"? With this budget, it may have been possible. May have allowed you to use some clothing items for a pillow or sleeping pad. Keep up the good work.
Interesting idea for next time!
Regarding the comment(s) you received from other viewers about trying to catch fish first, I think you made the obvious best choice of shelter over food. Perhaps it would be good to discuss survival priorities in one of your videos. My understanding is that survival priorities are almost always: 1. Shelter, 2. Water, 3. Fire, 4. Food.
Spot on!
This i agree with
I would have skipped the knife kit and stayed with just the saw and a cheap knife. Keep it up!
Sure! Hindsight is very easy.... even for me now! Haha! Thanks for chiming in bud
Lol 😂
Oh i know. No worries at all
He is obsessed with that bone
Reminds me of something from a book, lol.
you should totally do a 100$ wish challenge
dhanica bussieres I agree that would be pretty cool
The a frame seems useless. You may want to thatch it with branches and leaves mud etc.
It isn’t useless at all. Helped alot more than even imagined
@@DropForgedSurvival how so?
If I am ever in a "have to" or want to situation, I'll think back on your videos and try not to fret. It seems like a lot of "simple" camp tasks will take me longer than I would guess and keeping in touch with our Father above, is always a good idea. Thank you for your videos. Make a hobo fishing reel on a chunk of wood and do a little "cast" fishing.
Why don't you pour the water in the green water bootle into the filter bottle
The creek is so relaxing to watch. I’d definitely sit by it majority of the day
I definitely could
If you put the. head light on your head under your hat you would see how much better it works. It's not great but that would help!
Thanks for the video brother. Hopefully you’ll get a fish in one of the other episodes. Nice find with onions.
Thanks Robert
Hi!! Have you tried Flowler’s fishing spot ? He once used a pecan for bait ....... And you are doing awesome! Another guy on UA-cam has done a $250 dollar Walmart challenge. You are winning with $150 dollar less of equipment. Impressive!
Testa Rossa Thanks alot Testa.
You aren’t wrong... some solid points and suggestions
your headlight blinded me when you were talking and eating, those negative 10 lumens were fierce.
Lmao 😂
Haha
Adirondack mountains in New York. Good variety of small game and the views are awesome. Have you ever thought about planting things that would grow on their own in your bug out land?
Already on it.
Nice vids! I think you should sit and fish the lines for awhile, just my .02
Next time buy some cheap trash bags35 gallon ones you could have stuffed them with leaves and tall grass or whatever you could find and they would have made mattresses
Rahman noodles, peanut butter would have been better for the same money. You could of eat twice a day for 7 days.
I think that cheap striker is the sleeper mvp
i don’t get how people could find foraging wild edibles boring or something to be made fun of. to me it’s by FAR the most interesting part of survival
Found you from this series and I love it! I’ve started the 30 day challenge and I’m on day 17! Keep it up man I love these series!
wait.. then how are you ... why are you ... oh nevermind.
thirdEYEsix whatcha confused about? Lol
Was curious on the challenge, which you did well BTW. Why 2 mountain home meals? Wouldn't Ramin and beans and rice been cheaper and provide a lot more calories?
I hope you didn't forget the cactus flowers you found.
Thinking the same thing
Just subbed, love the content dude!
That could be fun
I would’ve had a different load out but I have different skill sets, not better, just different. If you’re focused on hunting/fishing section then some dedicated bait would’ve been on my list. Maybe a slightly better knife, single cooking pot, cordage, saw, hard to say exactly. Im going to have to try this at some point but I don’t have the funds to do 7 days right now
If I were to do a 7 day challenge I'd like to do it in the Appalachian Mountains on a trout filled River. Why? Its beautiful and lots of resources.
Chuck Redhill Mmmmmm Trout! Or salmon! Yum
I want to try this but with pants .lol
310smoker shorts are way lighter and don’t have as much material to get dirty and wet, don’t blame you tho
Yay. Been watching the 30 day survival challenge waiting for this to come out.
Glad your back!
I have feeling this is all for show, he sleeps in his car and eats food he has brought along. All for views.
I share a car with my wife and she works 2 hours away full time...... so yeah... no sleeping in a car.
You crack me up, Love your videos because they are so entertaining which a lot of outdoor channels miss!
Im weird and i love the outdoors... its just easy to be me
You got those wild onions and you were like YEAAAAH! LOL, my wifes like wth are you watching? Im like oh he found wild onions, shes like oh who cares, im like onions in the forest babe, shes like so, im like nvm lol.
Lmao 😂! Most folks don’t care unless you hunt a wild boar with your teeth now days
@@DropForgedSurvival Ya My wifes not into stuff like that lol.
Hey I just learned something. I never knew how to ID wild onions. I was just sitting out on my front porch and I look down and see this tube shaped grass sticking up. So I go and uproot it and bingo! Wild Onions! Great education!
Glad you found the information useful.... look, smell, and positively id/ clean before eating.....
I would buy cans of food instead of buying dehydrated food because less money you could buy more cans also more calories and it tastes better
Good Job Bro...Most people hardly know how to wipe their Ass...Kick Ass Bro... But catch me a FISH ALREADY.......LOL...LOL... GOOD LUCK MAN
You rock at building fires. Seriously!
That never have to be pretty... just need to work
I agree.....that is just like life. As long as you enjoy yourself and your subscribers enjoy it who cares👍😊
I have a question. Why in the world didn't you take the filter with you to fill water bag? I would have filled bag and hydrated then refilled and went to camp. By doing it your way you are getting less water and more trips to get it.
I answered that question in a pinned comment in the first few videos
