  • After running for almost a month on my Pleco Pig Pen, how did that new Hygger HOB filter hold up? Let's crack it open and see how much gunk it was able to remove and provide a follow-up to my original product review video during this first cleaning of the _Hygger HG099-L Hand-on-Back Aquarium filter.

I am impressed...that little filter is putting in the work. I really think I would try it if it weren't for how tall it is. That is the only thing I can see that I don't care for. I do like that you were able to move it to the side to avoid the cabinet. It is easier for you to get to it now to maintain.

Good review. It was dirty but thats what you want to see in a filter. Seems like a pretty good filter. Thanks for sharing

I love this stuff Ben call me crazy but there is something satisfying about pulling out all the filth from a filter. Therapeutic 😂

Normally I wouldn't recommend doing such a cleaning, but the tank it's on has two sponge filters and a deep substrate, so it's rock solid stable.

I’m not a big fan of that hang on the back filter. It seems like there’s not enough room to fit the amount of media I usually put in my tidal filter. But I have to admit quite honestly I’m very impressed with the efficiency of the filter. 👍👍👍

My fluval AQ 110 piece that keeps it straight always falls off. At some point I'll get a sponge and put it in between the glass and hang on.

That filter looked like that after three weeks? Do you over feed and leave the lights on all the time? It looks like a little power house of a filter, and it looks like they stuck a filter on top of another filter. I do like that the motor is in the "tank" so it doesn't run dry after a power out.

New aquarium slang : water swine 😂 . Do you think the basket that we have for our marine land HOB s would fit in there? You know the one that marine land doesn’t make that we get off Amazon to modify our filters .

      Plecos are water swine🤣🤣🤣
No, the Marineland baskets are too large. I’m gonna cut a medium sponge and use it as an a reusable insert.

The breed like rabbits, but my LFS gives me a good credit when I bring them in, so it's a good deal.

You rinse bio balls in tank water so you don’t kill bacteria. The same for the pre filter. You risk killing beneficial bacteria this way. I’m glad I don’t follow this 100%

Not vital for a well established tank with a deep substrate full of BB. For newer tanks, like under 6 months, tank water rinsing is not a bad idea. Check out what Jason at PRIMETIME AQUATICS does. He’s trained on and talks about how he always rinses in tap water. But do what makes you comfortable.
