As a previous owner of 987, 981 & currently a 718, I would agree the Cayman/Boxster models are great cars. Although the entry price is affordable, it’s the ongoing maintenance which can get quite expensive. Before anyone tells me, “if you can’t afford to maintain it then you shouldn’t have bought it” or “do your own maintenance”, I have gotten to a place in my life where I prefer to let others do those tasks for me while I sit in the shade and drink iced tea. Although I can afford to maintain them, the costs are quite ridiculous compared to a few other sports cars which give the same bang for less buck. Just adding “Porsche” to the part description adds crazy amounts of money. So, although the cars are great performers, I’m now moving on to something which I can maintain and modify without giving a arm or a leg. Nice Review.
+1 .. An excellent choice of exterior finish Agate Grey Metallic.. Understated to the Nines.. The Carrera Classic 20" alloy wheels have to be in the Top 5 of all time Porsche wheel designs.. My late '22 Cayman GTS 4.0 build/spec allocation follows suit.. Can't wait.. Drive safe, be well.. Vail, Colorado
Hi, thanks for watching and subscribing. Really appreciate it! I haven’t tried a C63 yet so can’t comment but the ride of an M4 is much more forgiving. I have a c class coupe amg line (with stiff suspension). When I got back in it, i realised just how harsh the 718 cayman S suspension was. It’s still a really fun car though.
I agree with your comment about the passenger seat belt. I have this strapped in all the time to avoid the rattle. Having had previous 997 and 981 Boxsters and just received the Cayman 718 I am very pleased with the overall package. Just miss the flat 6 sound but other factors compensate on the newer 718. Enjoyed your review
Thanks Vincent! The seatbelt rattle is so annoying and must be such an easy fix. The 718 is a great car for sure but I must agree about the sound... it's just not as nice. What spec is yours?
@@DylansCarReviews It’s the 718 2T with the PDK and PASM as the main options. Very nice drivers car but as you mention the noise is great in small doses but I have another quiet car as a daily driver
@@DylansCarReviews There is an easy fix guys guys. Just slide the plastic strip that's there to stop the buckle from dropping right to the top where the belt comes out of the of the trim. It will securely hold the buckle right at the top and prevent it from knocking on the trim.
I love this car, and plan on getting one before they go electric in 2025. But I'd love to know your background that you call it affordable. On a $240k USD salary, $85-90k spec'd is still a TON of money to spend on a car with 2 seats and a stiff ride while paying off student loans and a mortgage. This is a dream car for people our age.
Thanks for watching. I hope you do get one before 2025 - not long now! I’m from the U.K. and I didn’t go to university so I don’t have any student loans to pay off. I work in property accounts full time which pays the bills for me. It is a lot of money for a small, 2 seater car but it’s not a lot of money for a powerful sports coupe in this class. To find a sports car that matches the spec, drive, handling, power, etc, of the 718 Cayman S you’ll be looking at more money I think. If you can think of any cheaper alternatives I’d love to hear them so I can look into it and expand my own knowledge :)
@@DylansCarReviews love the explanation! I am thinking of getting one but kept saying all that for two seater but then it is a sports car! Thanks for the video love it
@@behnamanisi1 thank you for watching. I’m glad I’ve been able to help! It is a lot of money but also a lot of fun. If you can afford it, definitely get one.
A new base Cayman goes for 90k EUR here (netherlands), 20k EUR more than in the UK (hello taxes!) - which is almost 3 times the avg./median yearly salary. Affordable? hmmm D:
55k is a good price to get something that is a very good base car and build on it :) and sooo many good choices too: M3, M4 put some nice kit or just wrap/paint (satin red maybe :P ) or get an R8 :) there's so much you can do with an R8 even if you keep it standard, or even get a Mustang and get LBWK body kit will just make it such a unique car. But yeah a 718 an older 911 still good. Oh and let's not forget you can get a Model S and it will be faster than all the above :)
@@FlipDMC I think if i had to pick one of them it would be an Audi R8. I think that was my issue.. thinking what else I could get for the same money. You know how much I love Porsche as well
Hey, thanks for sharing! Good to know that you got bored. What a shame but I can understand. I only spent 4 days with this and already was thinking about what else I could buy for the same money. I’m just like you, get bored too quickly. If only you could swap cars every other month without breaking the bank! What about an Audi R8? Can pick up a nice used one for a decent price
Oh, good choice! I love the GT-R. Definitely faster launch. Plus, it looks more like a supercar. This could easily be mistaken for any other Porsche haha!
When you compare it with the likes of Lotus, Alpine or even the new Toyota Supra it's not far off the average price of sports cars these days. If you had the choice, which car would you choose?
I know it sounds ridiculous but when you are comparing it to other cars in its class like Lotus, Alpine, etc. There’s not much difference price wise but you get more from a Porsche

Agate Grey is really beautiful. I agree it's understated. Thanks for watching my video - I'm certain you will love yours! When do you get it?
Good point about the looks, the 718 looks so exotic in person and they break my neck every time I see one too 😂

The seat belt was so annoying! Easily fixed though
would this have a better ride than a c63 or bmw m4? great video by the way i love the detail
