I’m late to this conversation but have to say I love my 2020 718 T. I know the engine is underpowered compared to the S but I’m not pushing this car hard, and I feel it is incredibly responsive, a pleasure to shift, has plenty of giddy-up and looks absolutely amazing. If you love Porsche, this makes sense even at this price point, and will make you smile every single day.
My dream car i am trying to buy next year after selling my Cayenne is 718 GTS 4.0, however i would take T any day over an S due to better chassis tuning.
I honestly would rather get a low optioned 4.0 GTS manual, and spend that bit more, than get either a T or an S. That N/A flat 6 is worth every penny more than that turbo 4 cylinder. It will also retain better value in the long term, especially with the manual gearbox.
@@Meatwad650 have you driven both? I have and the NA flat 6 is wildly more satisfying to drive. I find the low-end torque matters far less in a 3k lb car than a large sedan or SUV. There's a reason the switch to turbo 4s have killed the 718 sales.
A month or so ago I switched my order from a Cayman T to a GTS 4.0 for exactly these reasons. In retrospect I don't know why I wanted to spend 85% of the money for a GTS on a 4 cylinder model. My GTS build ends up being ~$15K more than what I was going to spend on the T, but I don't think there will ever be a time where the GTS isn't going to be worth $15K more than the T in the resale market, even more so as we reach the end of both manual transmissions and 6 cylinder engines in Porsches.
For a 718 S you need to add the following to have the same build as a T except you cannot get a GT4 shifter (short shifter and different linkage), cloth seat centers, or the extended range fuel tank. Specifically you need to add: Sport Chrono, SPASM, PTV, Painted Roll Bars, 20" Rims painted, Sport Seats Plus, Sport tailpipes in black, painted side mirrors, side door decal. WAAAY bigger difference than 5k. Spot on review though. The thing about the T is that it's REALLY a fun car to drive. Once thing though, there has been some question about the 2.5L having a thermal capacity problem on the track, there have been quite a few reports of it going into limp mode. So I would do some research on that before choosing an S for that reason. No such problems being reported with the 2.0
I own a 718 T. Tinted stock lights, and it's 20mm lower than the S. It looks way cooler. In my case I don't need more engine power, the T already scares me, lol.
@@siempre289 I am quite surprised how decent the T sounds in this video. There’s something just off about the S sound, even if it’s way over-criticized. The T isn’t for everyone, but it’s pretty damn appealing.
As an F-Type SVR owner, I chuckle when I see some of these typical comments talking about how this recipe, especially with smaller displacement motors, is not a winner. The high power of the Turbo or GT line is exhilarating, but sometimes its even more fun to have to wring out an engine and find optimal shift patterns on a curvy road while staying in the power band. Matt hit the nail on the head: he said he could drive this with less mental energy. He was driving with pure instinct and muscle memory while chatting with his good friend. You can still hit ungodly speeds, but its more comfortable, you're forced to optimize powertrain performance, and there isn't the same pucker factor as some of the more powerful variants. Sometimes it's so much more rewarding to have to work for it. Thanks for the awesome review, guys!
Obviously not apples or oranges, but some people say similar things comparing the Cobra 289 to the 427. The 289 is more engaging. At least that’s what I hear. 🤷🏼♂️
Most of these people who complain or talk about car sounds go their ideas from Top Gear and not their own reality. Reminds me of americans talking about how only V8s are good. Most annoying is that Jeremy Clarkson got these people talking about how great Alfa V6 sounds when it sounds no different than Hyundai's Genesis V6. Which is fine, but not when combined with the smug. Base cayman engine sounds good from the outside, they just need to get that outside sound inside the car.
This car exists for European market, where a) CO2 taxation is a thing, b) people in general like to drive at moderate speeds on twisty roads. Base Cayman S is 10k EUR more in my country than the T is. Add the options (which also get CO2 taxation on them) and the difference is well beyond 20k. The Cayman T is a really solid option here.
I heard the four cylinder engines were more for the Chinese market where the import duty is based on engine displacement. Porsche is apparently planning to release more larger displacement NA engines in Europe because of some weird emissions rule over there.
EU demands that the CO2 level of the manufacturer stays below certain metric. Many countries have sell taxes for high CO2 cars. And many countries have higher yearly taxes for high CO2 cars. And some city areas may have upper limits for CO2 that you can enter to the zone. This Cayman T makes a lot of sense for European market, as its CO2 is 30g less than S and 50g less than GTS.
Everything I said is true. Maybe Porsche can also gain advantage in China, but I am pretty darn sure EU is one of Cayman's biggest market, and all those tax things apply here.
@@akkual China is Porsche's biggest market... by a lot. Yes there is an absolute advantage price-wise with the T in the EU but the T is really targeting the Chinese market. Not sure if Matt and Zack @TheSmokingTire are aware of just how many more Porsche's sell in China compared to the good ole USA. Personally I like the concept of the T: 300hp in a 3000lb car with superb handling!?!? This is an enthusiasts car!!! If I get another Porsche the Cayman T may very well be the one.
Sport gives you the back pressure burbles, but also sounds the most 4cyl. Subaru like. I have a T and my friends and I feel the standard mode sounds the most porsche like and Sport+ is also great.
Matt has said a few times about different Porsches having double wishbone suspension, but they don't - only the new GT3 does (and RSR). This car has a macphereson strut setup, just like all the other caymans, 911s, old GT3s and so on. 9:06
I think it’s funny how people talk about advanced suspension geometry as being the fix for everything. In reality, you have BMW with complex geometry and abhorrent steering feel and Porsche with struts and the best steering feel. This is where your money goes when you get a Porsche.
@@Ficon It's weird! I was talking about the same thing in context to the 86/BRZ platform vs the ND2 Miata in another video and how the 86/BRZ has steel strut front and steel multilink rear, and the ND2 aluminum double wishbone front and partial aluminum multilink rear. This should translate into a more stable and precise driving experience with a wicked front end, yet despite this and a roughly 500lbs weight advantage, and way less unsprung weight, the ND2 feels sloppier, has a slower steering rack and is imprecise in the corners, and even feels unstable when setting in a corner, having driven both. The only thing the ND2 has on the 86/BRZ platform is power delivery, intake noise, clutch/shifter response, torque and those double wishbones do translate into more road chatter to the steering wheel than an 86, even though the 86 has way more precise steering response. Both cars are great fun, but as a drivers' car, the 86 is tough to beat, I can only imagine how good it'd be if it were as light as an ND2 with a double wishbone setup and aluminum suspension components to shave unsprung weight. It's the same story with the C8, more sophisticated bones with double wishbones on all 4 corners vs all-struts on the 718/911 (minus GT3), yet, the Porsche somehow wins with more poise, accuracy, even steering feel. I'd honestly love to know the reason behind all this
@@Ficon BMW used to have some of the best feel in the biz before switching to EPS. I think it has more to do with how they tune the electric assist motors and filter info out than the geometry . Even my friend's new cx-5 turbo has better feedback than my pop's 2018 440i
@@tss996gt3 It's engineering time spent on tuning and on the track. It's really expensive and it's an easy corner to cut because 9/10 buyers can't tell the difference (i.e. your Corvette New Balance retiree crowd and Porsche Instagram bros). This is why a Porsche is more expensive than a Corvette.
The T if configured with no options is an amazing machine with things you can't get anymore. It has a great manual gearbox, analog gauges, screen below the sight line, has fantastic brake feel and modulation, handles other-worldly, comes with old school leather sports plus seats with sports-tex cloth inserts. Everything is blacked out and it is not a momentum car. It is quick. It takes some learning to launch as it has a small motor but can rev past 7000 rpm with a turbo. It looks fantastic too. The only issue with the T is having to put up with nonsense about the sound. Sad to see someone here post that they are no longer getting a T based on this video. I am ashamed to say, that I initially was also against trying out this car but when the GTS and GT4 stop order happened, I gave in and drove it. It was true love. The T is the special one that people don't know about and if you are into a true sports car that you can floor on the street and enjoy in the local mountain roads, this is one of the best. Yes, the M2 is good, but not Cayman good.
Glad I got my T before they removed it for the market this year. It's insane to me that they recommend the M2 just because of the power when it is such a different car, 800 pounds heavier and front engined. Not to mention the modern BMW modern manual transmissions are no where near the quality of the T's manual transmission, as the shifter is way too rubbery and the clutch pedal has very long pedal travel and a very soft engagement point. Also an S with the same specs would be far more than 5k more than the T. Even then, it's not possible to get the GT4 short shifter, sports-text cloth seats or buckets, and can only be lower 10mm compared to the 20mm of the T.
I felt that your numbers were off at the end when talking about getting a Cayman S and adding the extra drivers bits, but turns out you were pretty close based on how they had the T you drove spec'd. Base Cayman T is $69,600, and base Cayman S is $72,000. For the Cayman S to have the extras you have to add PASM ($2,080), PTV ($1,320), Sport Chrono ($2,090), and not sure if the wheels would make any difference but the Carrera S wheels are an extra $2,080. Not sure what options your T had that increased the price an extra $8,000, but if we are talking base cars with only the drivers options and nothing else special the Cayman S with T options would cost $79,570, $9,970 to get the better engine.
@@Loko_The_Savage yes it is. I'm looking for a manual sports car and ended up looking for a used 718. The ND Miata is another strong option to be honest and waaay cheaper of course. The Miata just has significantly less room (my dad doesn't fit in lol). Then there's the M2, but I'm not a BMW guy to be honest. And then there're not THAT many other cars here in Germany I would consider as a second weekend car to my Mk7 Golf GTI.
As someone who has never driven a true sports car like this, seeing this car is very interesting. I've always heard the saying, "Porsche HP is not the same as other HP" and between the fact it has a 4 second 0-60 and can hit 170mph, I believe it. This reminds me of a nicer Civic Type R. Coming from somebody who's in his early 20s, I would love to buy a car like this used one day. It won't hold its value like the S or the GTS, sure, but that's how someone like me could even come close to affording a car of this caliber. I'm sure there is a decent aftermarket for this car, and between flash tuning the car and going all out and putting a bigger turbo in, if the stock 300hp isn't enough for me, there are options once the warranty expires. I currently drive a modified 2018 Civic 1.5T hatchback. Love this car a lot. It makes me feel like a race car driver with how much get-up it has between 30mph and 90mph. Even on stock suspension, with some DWS06+ tires the car handles amazingly for what it is, a $20k commuter car. I can only imagine how much better driving even this Cayman T would be...
@@The_Stanman yep. I remember calling Matt out hard for it. He denied it, but ever since then, Zach has all of a sudden been doing the takes with him. Makes you think right!? Anyways, I feel bad for Zack getting fucked over in the ass by Matt all these years, without realizing it probably too.
Caymans DO NOT have double wish bone. They should for the price point, but they do not. They are strut based both front and rear, including the GT4. Which is why one of the first suspension mods that track folks do it add rear toe-links.
@@gobinduppal4429 Our SAAB 9.3 2.0T hits the governor pretty hard at 135mph. Although I think the speedo is off about 7mph at that speed. Only 210hp but they are pretty slippery.
The t has a low growl that sounds soooo good. Been daily driving mine, there is no need for extra horsepower. Once you are in that 4-7,000 rpm band it just takes off.
As a concept, I love this in the same way that you can get all the handling bits on the 4-cylinder Camaro or you can get the Mustang performance pack on an ecoboost. Almost more fun to drive because of the usable power.
I think generally speaking the S and GTS models are almost always where Porsche shines. Enough power to have a lot of fun, not so much power that you stop appreciating the balance. The base models (aside from the 911) are all disappointingly slow and the top end models are always a bit insane.
It's a competitive segment in the 60-80K price range but it's tough to ignore a C7 Z06 / GS here in the US. You get way more bang for your buck considering the price and performance capabilities in the end of the day.
@@Ficon yeah but they don't sell for MSRP... usually well under that number... probably not T levels but definitely getable at CaymanS + driving add-ons money
@@Loko_The_Savage In power yes, in overall refinement and experience, no. Corvette is basically BMW, high power output at the expense of everything else.
There is another option here. These turbo motors can be tuned really affordably and easily achieve 50 -100 hp, with no downside. So instead of spending the $10,000 for an S, tune it and get the power of GTS for under $1000. A base Cayman 718 with tune will blow away most M series cars, Mustang GT's and SS Camaro's. This comes from experience not theory. It amazing how much this 4 cylinder feels like a big honking V8 with low end torque.
@@zackvandenhouten6067 I put 25,000 miles on my base 718 (sold it at 67,000) and now my 718 S has 61,000 miles, so put 31,000 miles, same race chip black on both cars, destroys rear tires at lights, lol, could not love it anymore, you will blown away with the difference, its serious upgrade in power and torque.
I love that Porsche still throws performance bones to the base cars too. I'll be really curious to see you guys drive the new GR86/BRZ and see how it compares to this 718 Cayman T for $30-40k less.
I think this car really does prove the Cayman Complex is real. At that price it should have the flat 6. There should be no reason to have to pay close to 6 figures to get the 6 cylinder Cayman when all the competition have either 6 or 8 cylinders. Once you option a GTS 4.0 you are already at 911 money, and with the 911 at least on the base you get the turbo 6.
I don't totally disagree, but...if you want a Porsche sports car with a manual then GTS 4.0 doesn't compete with the 911, simply because you'd have to jump up to a Carrera S to get the stick. A low spec 992CS sets you back easily $125K where a similarly optioned Cayman GTS sits around $95K. If you want a PDK though, the base 911 probably makes more sense than the 718 GTS since the prices do overlap. I think the takeaway isn't so much that this car is proof of the Cayman complex but rather that Porsche builds high quality yet expensive cars relative to their competition.
@@075north I am not sure I would call a car with an engine that sounds like a Subaru, is laggy, and barely faster than a Miata in 5-60 “high quality”, especially when comparing the interior to something like a Corvette
@@adamb3129 to each their own, but cherry picking one statistic in which a Miata compares favorably does not take away from the merits of a Cayman T. I wouldn't get one only for the engine note, but to say that hitting 170 mph with 300 hp and carry huge amounts of speed through a corner isn't evidence of high quality engineering is...something.
@@075north The Miata thing highlights that these have quite a bit of lag. That’s a huge problem when the BMW engines in the Supra and Z4 are really smooth and the Corvette is naturally aspirated. It just highlights the fact the flat 6 is better, Porsche just wants to be greedy. Having the 2.5t standard would be much better
@@adamb3129 I don't think it's greed. I think they understand that they have a loyal customer base in part because they offer a fairly unique product. Not many companies are making lightweight, mid engined, manual transmission sports cars. If that's what someone (such as myself) wants in a sports car, none of the Z4, M2, Supra, or Corvette fit the bill. In fact there's nothing else currently available that even competes with a 718. Combine a high quality product with a gap in the marketplace and you can expect to see higher prices, simple as that.
Okay, things have changed so much these reviewers should redo these videos. First, no more Bose on any Cayman, at least through the S trim, kind of a bummer. Second, you you build a Cayman T with minimal upgrades and then build an S with the same upgrades PLUS the suspension upgrades and you are 10k more than the T, is the S worth 10k more? For instance, a base color, leather 18 way seats without the interior package and the ext range tank plus a colored seatbelt T vs an S with the exact same options plus PASM and torque vectoring and wheels that look similar to the T’s, it’s a 90k car, 90k! Compared to a car that is right at 80k for the T.

I drive like an absolute lunatic, but still get scared when anyone but me is driving. Even if they're not driving at the level of insanity that I drive at. I think it's a control thing. Like, I'm not the one doing the driving, so it makes me scared. I think having time to think about what could happen also plays into it. When I'm driving hard I am focused solely on keeping it on the road, but when I'm a passenger I have time to think about what could happen if we had an off, and having been in a really bad wreck before, when I have the time to think about that, it scares the shit out of me. I just don't have the option to think about stuff like that when I'm the one behind the wheel, so it doesn't bother me.
Completely agree. These should start at 45-50 max. 60k for 300 horsepower and no LSD and no bucket seats is not good value. A supra comes with alot more options standard and has almost 400Hp.

I once thought that Porsches are expensive but relative to the quality and design choices they aren’t once you take closer look. Some of us have plenty of disposable income and we don’t necessarily pay for hp, we pay for overall handling, touch & feel and other goodies that come with a car. Porsches aren’t for those who are counting very 1 k. Fortunately there are many car choices at all income levels.
@@olasek7972 the are definitely quality cars and they handle well. I don't mind the premium, but it seems like a 20k premium rather than 5-10k. Yeah if you have unlimited money go ahead. The 2.0L engine is very important in the part of the Europe, where car taxes (and insurance) are based on engine displacement. For example: You pay only 6% of the car price as import tax, when the engine is 1999ccm, but 18% when the engine is 2001 ccm. Thats a 12% difference in a new car price.

I mean, what's bad about it? a 2-liter engine making 300 HP and lots of torque? There is nothing *bad* about it. Does porsche offer better engines in this car? Yes! Two of them. We discussed this. I said I prefer the S engine over the T handling mods. I also prefer the 4.0L over both. But what is there "bad" to say about it? It sounds kinda like a Subaru? We said that. Twice. What else? Nothing.
As mentioned, to add the LSD/PDT, Sports Chrono, 20 MM drop PASM, blacked out logos and washer heads is more like $8K on top of the base S (over $80K) and you still don't get the cool cloth Sport Tex seats, the black-out dash trim, the bespoke wheel color and mirror caps and most of all the GT4 shifter, these are NOT available in the S model, only in the T. Actually, I was looking up the GTS and you don't get the GT4 shifter there according to the specs. Only in the T and GT4. Yes the S motor is better but for old school fans, the Cayman T in a manual is what we need right now before Eletrigeddon! It's a brilliant car, and yes Matt is correct, dealers are ordering them with a lot of extra specs that make no sense like premium package and Bose stereo that adds a lot of extra heavy speakers and subwoofer. The key to the T is to get a no option car since it already has all the correct options included. If you get it with no options, it's $70,950 MSRP. There are used base Caymans listed for close and some even more. So if you can order one correctly, without the extra fluff, this is hidden gem in Porsche world. But if you let the dealer spec them, they come in at $77-85K and make no sense then.
Nice video. Reinforced everything I've read and seen about the T package. It seems to me that whatever 718 you're interested in, saving for another 6-12 months and buying the GTS is the correct choice (even at about $100K). The globe is cool.
@TheSmokingTire Sadly a comparable S model spec’d the same way, takes the price from $77k to $90k. So it’s more like $13k difference, not $5k. Although you could probably get it down to $10k without some of the cushy options.
If you’re banging on about horsepower you’re missing the point. The T is perfect. It’s all about finesse and handling. This is an enthusiasts car. For people that value the art of driving and dynamics more than anything else. IYKYK.
I agree with the note about the S over the base. I drove the base 981 and was severely disappointed in the performance coming from my supercharged Jaguar. The Cayman S was really compelling. Not exactly fast, but much quicker and more responsive than the base car. I almost bought one until I ended up picking up my Ferrari. I would love to get one of the Cayman S models in the future.
Great vid! Here in Switzerland, if I put in all the "driving" options (and 20' wheels like in the T) in the Boxster S, it's +/- 17k more expensive then the Boxster T. So that's quite a difference. Question is, do you really recognize / use those options on a daily drive. Just tested the GTS 4.0 last week, ..., and of course, that was amazing....
3:15 Interesting that the curb weight is stated at 3065 being the lightest model Porsche offers, but Harry Metcalfe did a video on his channel about the 718 GTS and put it on his proform scale and it came out at
I believe there's been a change in how vehicle weight are reported in Europe. Many recent cars have big weight gain on paper, but not in reality. I'm not sure the details though.
There are many things that come standard on the T that the you can't option on the S. The T essentially has the GTS chassis mated to the base engine. The T also has the option for full bucket seats. It'd be nice for Porsche to bump the power to like 325-ish without raising the pricing any further. Porsche engineers can easily do that. Me personally, I'd be torn between a T and GTS. Do I want a less expensive, lighter, less horsepower GTS in the form of a T? Or do I want a full GTS for ~$20K more? That's $20k for a different engine, same chassis. I don't think I'd regret either purchase but my wallet would. And trying to add the word 'value' to ANY Porsche is futile to begin with. Porsches are priced higher than what they'd be competing against, so ANY Porsche is poor value already. That being said, the T is more than the sum of its parts, and its value is very questionable, even for a Porsche. It would take a very specific customer to buy a T, and I think I'm one of them.
The reason a Porsche IS a good value, is due to the fact that they hold their value essentially better than any other vehicle on the road. The 911 for example holds it value better than any other sports car in human history.
In the middle of 2022, this is about all most dealerships have allocations for, thank God it’s so good! Also, as soon as you option anything up on a Porsche you normally are in the neighborhood of 15-25k over the base price, so base prices on Porsches are kinda silly, to me.
Go to any porsche forums and you will find turbo servo overheat issues with the 2.5T engine in the S, so by stating that the S has so much more thermal capacity so it should be chosen on the track, it just doesn't make much sense..
the blunt eraser of an m2 also doesn't have the VISIBILITY of any mid engine car. that is where any front engine vehicle will fail in a comparison. mid engine visibility of the road in front of you 180 degrees is unbeatable. no big giant long hood blocking your vision of the near peripherals, you feel you are driving ON the road. not from the back of a yacht or a semi.

In the US C8s are going for $100K? Damn that is crazy. Is that just from dealer markups? That sounds insane, especially for a car that will eventually be as prevalent as C7 or C6 Corvettes are.
Also, the problem with the C8 is that you can't get a manual transmission. It's all about the manual. I can't even drive an automatic, I can only drive a manual lol. My brain isn't wired to be able to drive an auto haha.

Would a 300hp na flat six fix the engine problem? Seems like low hp na engines are more appealing. That 2 liter turbo flat four is not engaging enough for a porsche.
What do you guys think when you compare this car to a Lotus Evora GT? This car is technically cheaper for a BN car, but I think a 2 year old Evora is about same price to the new 718 Cayman.
I daily-drive a GT4 in Southern California. And I have the carbon buckets and the 6-speed. The stiffness is awesome. It’s why I love the car so much and enjoy driving it every day, regardless of whether I’m going slow or fast. The quirks and challenges are part of the draw for me. But I get that it ain’t for everyone.
I rented a 718 Cayman S and wasn’t a fan of the four cylinder turbo engine. For $75k for a nicely equipped Cayman S I don’t understand the use of the four cylinder engine. Porsche apparently made the switch because of the Chinese market where the tax is based on the engine displacement. I’d pony up the extra money for the GTS 4L.
At least the 4cyl are REALLY fuel saving if you want to, and they lower the running costs in general which is nice, if you want to drive a great Porsche for kind of a budget 😊
Hi Zack- A bit off topic... it looks like you might be wearing a Bremont Alt1-ZT in this video. If so, how do you like it? Seriously considering one. Thanks!
The cooling issue is why I'm not getting the Cayman T. I was ready to pull the trigger on this car, love the T-concept a lot. After reading on Porsche forums about the overheating issues on tracks I changed my mind. My "local" track is Laguna Seca and it can get hot there in the summer.
Don’t compare it to the S, it’s the T, it’s good!

Truth in all the aspects.
Don't agree. I don't care about resale, but I do care about torque and power band.
Or get a 981 gts… I mean a 4.0 is going to be a lot more money than a T
No such problems being reported with the 2.0
don’t forget about the black interior trim, that you can’t get on any other 718! lol
I own a 718 T. Tinted stock lights, and it's 20mm lower than the S. It looks way cooler. In my case I don't need more engine power, the T already scares me, lol.
Thank u, Im now sold. Tradin in my M3 asap.
I adore my T, honestly wouldn’t trade it for an S either.
@@capuchinseven plus, I forgot to say, that the sound of the T is more elegant in my opinion, less agricultural than the S or base models etc
Humble brag.
Those of us who are old enough to remember when Porsches made a distinct boxer rumble don't mind the sound of this motor at all.
That's not true. It's really meant for the Chinese market where taxation is based on displacement
Little tip guys, if you want the engine to sound good, put it in sport, not sport plus. Thank me later :) p.s. I have a 718 Cayman S
Sport has a nice burble tune.
Doesn't that just make it fart? That how it is on my 992. Part of why I prefer Sports Plus.

Matt has said a few times about different Porsches having double wishbone suspension, but they don't - only the new GT3 does (and RSR). This car has a macphereson strut setup, just like all the other caymans, 911s, old GT3s and so on. 9:06
@Prashanth Panicker that is incorrect, non-gt3 are still MacPherson strut. Can look it up.

Yeah it's around a ~10k difference for the better engine which is quite huge for some at these "budget" Porsches.

For me the 718 4.0 Cayman GTS is the best car in this segment, but in the 4cyl price range the V6 Lotus Evora is a better car to drive.
I think generally speaking the S and GTS models are almost always where Porsche shines. Enough power to have a lot of fun, not so much power that you stop appreciating the balance. The base models (aside from the 911) are all disappointingly slow and the top end models are always a bit insane.
V6 Evora starts at 96k, 10k more than Cayman GTS.
It's a competitive segment in the 60-80K price range but it's tough to ignore a C7 Z06 / GS here in the US. You get way more bang for your buck considering the price and performance capabilities in the end of the day.

So instead of spending the $10,000 for an S, tune it and get the power of GTS for under $1000. A base Cayman 718 with tune will blow away most M series cars, Mustang GT's and SS Camaro's.

@@075north The Miata thing highlights that these have quite a bit of lag. That’s a huge problem when the BMW engines in the Supra and Z4 are really smooth and the Corvette is naturally aspirated. It should be mentioned that the S models can have heat issues at the track. Mine certainly did. The Base & GTS models do not have this issue.
So the base engine doesn’t heat soak or over heat on track ? I’m currently in the market
The 2.0L engine is very important in the part of the Europe, where car taxes (and insurance) are based on engine displacement.

@@Angry-Lynx you're talking about purchase price I'm talking about insurance, tax to put in on the road, smaller displacement cars are cheaper in that regards .the eu specc Porsches are also more expensive to make everything has to be tuv approved. But sure you can be angry on the Internet.
these guys seem petrified to say anything bad about the engine.
I think that’s because it’s a good engine and they enjoy driving it, but just want more power.
Because the 4-banger is a terrible engine & they don’t want to throw any red flags at Porsche 🚩
@@Braydenplaysallday no, it is a great engine, enjoy it immensely
They have to be nice so Porsche continues to send them cars to review.
Matt looked Shook haha, always good to see him a bit scared after all the owners hes scared in the past
IYKYK.
that 2.5 GTS is very underrated as a performance package.
I prefer this sponsor to Sheath underwear any day 😂
Ok I haven't watched the video yet but that globe looks sick 👌
One thing that is cool about the t is you can get sport buckets which i dont believe are available on the s
They seem to be underappreciated.
I highly doubt
Exactly the reason the Supra isn’t on my short list.
@@sturat18 Mk5 supra is definitely built of modern times. Where engineers aren't even trying anymore to make an engaging car because the nannys in power have made it too difficult to drive anything but a self-sorting tank with padded walls. All modern sports cars have going for them is looks, because the engineers have their hands tied.
@@sturat18 Even mid engined cars are starting to be burdened with "crash protection" up front. making the nose longer and longer for no reason, when the whole entire point of the engine being behind is so that you can drive from the FRONT and feel the world behind the wheel.. it's very sad.
Nice. Kinda like a Toyota 86 with a turbo and the engine in the right spot which is all a good thing. Looks so sexy. Love in this colour.
I was really hoping when I saw the title that the Cayman T would be a Cayman with the 3.0T engine from the 991.2/992.... If they ever make that car I absolutely will buy it.
Well they kinda do. The 4.0 GTS
@@aminbajrektarevicab I believe the 4.0 is just a bored out 3.0T minus the turbos. So in a way they’re the same engine.
@@mevans313 yup
These are pretty fast in a straight line, 12.70s@110ish. That’s pretty quick!
Makes me wonder if another $5k spent at BBI or Sharkwerks would make this thing next level
That globe is number 1 in office coolness, next to Kramers coffee table book....
300 hp "momentum" car? Oh, how times have changed.
Loving all the Porsche content I will probably never be able to get anything besides a used boxster but it's still cool to watch also what model Dylan optics is Zach wearing they look nice 🥂
Matt, you can build a base Cayman with Chrono, PASM and Torque Vectoring.Look it up.
Have you optioned the S with sport chrono, PTV, PASM+, LSD, 20’ Carrera S alloys, active engine mounts etc? That would be a fair comparison if you’re stating price for the T versus the S. It’s a lot of car car for the money and compared to a standard Boxster it’s phenomenal value. Mine’s fairly high spec and it’s still under £60k UK! Sadly Porsche are now quoting 12m delivery for the S and 2023 with no confirmed month for the GTS in the UK 😢. Interesting vid, thanks guys.
Wow ,great & wonderfull car , more yet manual gear box , mechanical pure!!!! great video, thanks for your review, salute you!!!
Matt is correct. The T was the entry level 911 in the 70's. Doesn't stand for touring.
Pass. For that cash, get the S or save a bit more and go to the GT4.
Or get a GTS 4.0
GTS is the best!
That ad product is actually really cool imo, we'll see if i get it
The T did originally stand for Touring in the 911! But they didn’t use that word now as there is already a Touring in the line up.
I hear ya but the C8 unfortunately is selling at 100k, that being said I would try to find a GTS or if they sell the corvette at regular price I would take the C8.. it's really fast and suspension is 👏.. great review and show love the truth man.. I'm looking at a M2 or M3 CS used prices are crazy now
In the US C8s are going for $100K? Damn that is crazy. Is that just from dealer markups? That sounds insane, especially for a car that will eventually be as prevalent as C7 or C6 Corvettes are.
Also, the problem with the C8 is that you can't get a manual transmission. It's all about the manual. I can't even drive an automatic, I can only drive a manual lol. My brain isn't wired to be able to drive an auto haha.
When are we going to see a review of the new cayman GTS 4.0?

WHAT? SACRILIGE!
**undoes seabelt, gets out of the car**
This car exists exclusively because China and their displacement tax laws.
BUT this is also the cheapest Porsche available with the optional bucket seats, and its also the best-classed SCCA autocross Porsche outside of the GT3 (if you get an S or GTS Cayman/Boxster you have to compete against GT4s and GT3s)
Is this one still A street?
You should do a 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 review
i've never been so excited after seeing an ad, but I really thought that globe would be less than half the price
"its a momentum car" great new marketing buzzword to sell underpowered car for crazy money 😁
Ahhh, yes, so underpowered. Only 170mph or about 2.35x the average USamerican speed limit. How long would you go to jail getting caught doing 170 on a public road?
It means it can carry speed around corners
That globe is fucking sick I want one
I bought the globe...8.5 inch earth with clouds....acrylic base. Birthday gift I hope she likes it.
Good upload, I will buy myself that spinning globe 🌍, looks cool.
I will absolutely be considering one of these.
I love that Porsche does things like this but for 70k+ USD, I'd spring for the M2, Corvette or Camaro 1LE
A 300hp MR-sportscar is called a momentum car.... Just think about it.
I was thinking the same thing.
Would a 300hp na flat six fix the engine problem? Seems like low hp na engines are more appealing. That 2 liter turbo flat four is not engaging enough for a porsche.
Where do you guys stand on grip vs more tail happy fun. Porsche seem to be about the former whereas I think I'd probably have more fun in the latter?
I love the 2.5 S engine. I don’t count cylinders, I count horses..
I quite like this car.. im a huge fan of momentum cars. driver engagement cars. and I like the yellow belts...
Hi Zack-
A bit off topic... it looks like you might be wearing a Bremont Alt1-ZT in this video.
The T is a g8 package, but the 2.5 would suit it better, personally opted for a 718 bs as luv the roof off for 75% of my driving
The flat four boxer is old tech, in most countries it only needs 3 gears as the gearing is all out of whack.
I gotta ask what watches you guys are wearing.
