I've always sleeved through cavities. Mcdonalds plumbing supplies and Direct plumbing supplies both stock ½ wall plates which are easier to keep on the van as any required length pipe can be soldered onto the back. Awesome tutorial as per usual Derek. 👊
Nice one, Derek, two beautifully explained and installed garden taps. I laughed when you mentioned about PTFE, seeing as some kits don't have Loctite in them, but PTFE tape. One video on YT scoffed at PTFE like it was prehistoric, and a comment on it said run a mile if you see PTFE installed in pipework, because it's either done by Dodgy DIYers or Calamity Cowboys. I had to defend it, PTFE has been around since, and it still is. Loctite and Liquid PTFE are nice and advanced, but I have loads of PTFE from way back and I'm not ditching them before they're finished, and I've had no complaints, no call backs, no trouble with them thus far. Been on site and had others pointing out their choices of Loctite or Liquid over my PTFE but that's their choice. I've seen and corrected a few garden taps that made me wonder who put them in and left, thinking it was all good and done. One left the tap quarter turned. Makes you wonder. 👍👍👍
Couple points. You can buy hose taps with double check valves built in. As per regs you can replace one of these taps but if you are doing a new install you must have the double check valve inside the thermal envelope of the building which is best practice regardless. Fluid category 3 protection is minimum required. Depending on what you are doing with the hose tap you may need a higher category of protection. And you should have a trigger attachment on the hose that shuts off when released. 👍
Why didn't you use a red quarter turn lever handle isolation valve on the hot tap Derek? I always colour coded my isolation valves it doesn't cost anymore just a bit of thought!
What's you're thoughts on a hot garden tap fed from a blending valve TMV in the sink unit, so you don't have to have 2 taps outside just set the required temperature great video by the way
Ive seen some poor poor installations from plumbers on facebook! Usualy summer time they usualy throw them in supply and fit for £50 and dont comply to any water regs.. customer doesnt understand and thinks your just trying it on with em when you try explain it to them..
Thanks for the clear explanation. The drainage point for your hot water inside the kitchen unit is at the same level as the hot water outside tap. Is this to save your mum from having to walk outside to drain it before winter comes? Or to prevent air lock if drained? If she will be draining the taps for the winter, do you still need to put those white covers to prevent them from freezing? I understand the video is for educational purposes, so I don't mind the 'overkill'.
Washing the dog and showering outside in the summer . . The mixer is fitted internaly and set to a fixed temp . It comes with integral single check valves . Not double.
Any examples of fines actually taken place? Would love an example to show customers when they proudly tell me how much cheaper they can get it fitted for! 🙃😂
gas safe recently published a guide to approximate hourly rates accross the country.. thats for first hour and per hour after. ill dig up what you should be paying if you give some indication of where you are.
Why do people put 2 taps outside🙈, “T” the hot and cold together before it goes out that means you can then have a mix type the same as what you have in the kitchen.. and only need to drill 1 hole.. your welcome..
Why don't you open your own training center? I'm sure people will queue up to learn from your experience. There are more than 43,000 plumbers in the UK. Just because you don't know about back siphons doesn't mean the rest of the plumbers have the same experience.

They only had blue ones 😁

If that’s what the customer wanted then that’s fine by me 👍🏻
Nice job Derek
I usually put a TMV on the hot for good measure
Yer The RSPCA Love them
I would fit the taps before screwing the flange to the wall to ensure the taps point in the right direction when screwed fully into the flange
What about flushing?
Nice work Derek. Do you need a sleeve for a boiler prv pipe ?
No but I know quite a few do sleeve it
I've always wondered how water can back siphon and push past 3 bar mains pressure?
It’s about protecting from when we loose the pressure in the main and it creates a vacuum
if you have dbl check valve straight after stop tap, do you still require to install dbl check valve for outside tap?
Yes because it’s protecting the other outlets

The covers are for if she forgets to turn the water off in winter
@@tomkatgastraining Thanks.
I used shrink wrap pvc for the sleeve of the copper pipe passing through the cavity wall
Missed the safe to touch test on the copper pipework.
No I didn’t just didn’t show it and I got my mum to touch it before I did 😋
The outside tap men are already out doing it for £45 all in in Wigan 😭
I live near by there and been to fix some. Some of the ones that I have seen are shocking.
Do you know the regs for a mixer valve fitted in the cupboard and and a hot water out siďe tap .
Yes
Well done Derek
Why do you need a hot tap outside?
So my mum can wash the dog. Not my idea just did as I was told like a good son 😁

Well done sir😊
I’ve never seen sleeving or check valves on an outside tap lol

Ring the water police and ask them 🤔
just wondering who is going to police all these regulations
They don’t until something happens
Id be interested to know how long this took you and how much you would charge for exactly that job... with mum rates removed lol
Each job would be different and priced on what area you live in and how long it would take. I charged my mum 2 brews and I bought lunch 😂👍🏻

@@shannonj1000 ? why would you do that? please explain.
Is this a joke comment ?? @@shannonj1000
when you say the sleeving is there if the pipe happens to split. But if you seal both ends, the water has nowhere to go?
That’s the idea so it doesn’t fill the cavity with water
🤘😎🤘
get them a qooker tap tomkat.
Mum couldn’t be trusted 😂👍🏻
More bs all i do is remve faulty gdn taps with non rtn valves done 2 this week 48 years as a plumber i have never known back shyponage to happen

It's to prevent back siphonage. Everyone has karcher jet washers and power showers. It's about keeping our water supply potable.
How would you know if it was happening?
Definitely will give you really piss poor water flow....
What would?
Whats electricians con-jew -it ? 😂😂
