    I recently bought my first Seiko. I’ve always had cheap watches because I’m a contractor and I can’t stand to spend very much on a watch that’s going to get beat up on job sites every day. Seiko for me is the perfect balance between quality and price on their lower end. If I break it I won’t cry but it’s so much nicer than a timex or something of that caliber.

    • @F80mthree
      @F80mthree Рік тому +20

      Welcome to the club buddy. Thats exactly why we all love Seiko here. Sure, some of the discontinued and or JDM models can fetch a pretty penny online but realistically we all should be able to use and abuse a Seiko and not hurt too much when it’s time to replace it with another.

    • @hgr.7857
      @hgr.7857 Рік тому +15

      For the jobsite, allow me to suggest: the Casio G-shock square DW5610U. It's solar powered, it sets itself from the atomic clocks, it's in-FKN-destructible... And it costs 120.00 USD.
      If you break it... Well, you won't.

      @@krcjayhawks I have an Apple Watch but I can’t remember the last time I wore it. My job is high stress and one of the reasons I started wearing a watch every day was so that I wouldn’t have to look at my phone to check the time. I’m currently trying to cull the amount of smart devices I use every day. Time felt like it was just flying by in a blur so I decided to do what I can to hit the breaks and be more present in my day to day. It’s sounds woo woo but it really does help.

    • @krcjayhawks
      @krcjayhawks 5 місяців тому +1

      @@TheDkbohde I absolutely get where you're coming from. This is a bit different than a typical smart watch is something I cant emphasize enough. I actually don't care much for a lot of the smartphone connected features - text can be nice when i cant take my phone out of my pocket of course. But, you can also get tons of use without even maintaining a connection to your phone. Battery lasts a month keeps it low maintenance. On device sleep tracking you can get all the advanced metrics calculated on the watch it doesn't actually need any app connection or sync like almost all smart watches do in these situations. And the HR sensor is super advanced- I use things like stress scores and body battery often because coworkers and supervisors take it more seriously than someone saying they don't feel well or have a sleep debt for example. And then your tap to pay, GPS mapping, exercise/step tracking, media controls, so on are the type features I just seem to continue to find uses for.
      Of course none of this would matter if the watch wasn't seriously a beastly piece of hardware. If its just not your thing no harm no foul. I just have been really impressed with the idea of this watch if a regular timepiece enthusiast does want to add a smart watch to the collection.

    Nice picks Teddy! I'm a Seiko fan too, my thing is I like a watch that gives more time than it takes, less fiddle = more for me, my picks are for the office job = SWR064 or SUR369, I love a a watch that reminds me of thin mint chocolate wrapped in gold foil, for the off-time sports time activity SNJ033 Arnie variant, for a red snapper diner with shrimp cocktails I like the SNKM97 Recraft or the SNE565 Coutura, I would swap any strap that feels like a distraction, in a social outing ultra modern or ultra vintage design never wealth signal on the first date just saying pretentious is not a vibe you want give as a first impression and Seiko is perfect for this

    Reminiscing about classic cars is always better than reality. These cars were available new when I was in high school and I experienced both in period.
    The E30 M3 was fun, but in period, the E30 325 was a better daily driver and faster.
    No Porsche 911 ever competed or was cross shopped by 3-series buyer in period. G-Body 911’s were really fun to drive. A little high maintenance, but fun.

  • @jvogler_art4708

    I’m conflicted on watches. They used to be this status symbol that signaled your class, now they’re obsolete by smart watches and cellphones, but now they’re coming back around for me as this pure mechanical experience of how life used to be. When quality really mattered, and all you needed was a really fucking good watch that would never let you down.
    In that respect, I adore them not as status symbols or as anything essential, but as a testament to ingenuity and design. They’re beautiful. I miss watches. I’m not a watch snob at all. I can appreciate a well made cheap watch that does it all and never lets you down. Maybe even more so than an expensive watch because for the money you spend on a luxury watch it BETTER work perfect forever.
    I also don’t believe in these kinds of things as investments. Get it cause you like it, not to pretend it’s something you’re buying to compound your wealth.

      You line up the hrs. hand with the sun, then split the difference between hrs and 12:00 to find South in the northern hemisphere. But yeah, EVERY watch with an hour hand and 12-hr dial is a compass.

      @dtroutmann Рік тому

      @@hgr.7857 I understand that.
      It's exactly what my comment is is about. And would negate the necessity for having a bezel whether it's inside or outside that has a compass on that bezel.
      Because you can use the dial itself to find North and South

      @@dtroutmann Ok, and I understand that you understand that a person *can* use an analog watch to find the cardinal directions. But your assessment of how to do so was... 🤨 You are in fact mistaken with the method of HOW to do so. You're right that it CAN be done but incorrect as to how. So, again, for anyone who's curious:
      1) Hold the watch flat (in relation to the ground)
      2) point hrs. hand at the sun
      3)split the difference between hrs and 12 o'clock. That line points approximately SOUTH if you are standing in the northern hemisphere
      4) If you're in the southern hemisphere, that line points north. Up

      Really? I have a 6.1inch wrist and currently wear a seiko mini turtle. Any 39mm dive watch has fit me perfectly but I’m wondering if the Willard, SPB143 or slim turtle would be the most appropriate seiko upgrade for me. I feel like I could handle slightly larger but I hope the Willard isn’t too bulky

    I believe an alpinist is already a dress watch, so you can replace pressage with speedtimer 911 chronograph.
