- For eons, man has been puzzled by the mysteries of the Way Huge Swollen Pickle. How does one unlock the glorious fuzz tones of this enigmatic pedal? I took it upon myself to lay bare the innermost workings of the Pickle, and unravel the twisted roar locked in its brushed metal enclosure. Watch and listen as I impart to you the wisdom my extensive research has revealed, and achieve nirvana as you too are able to dial in the exact fuzz tone you've been chasing all these years. Waste not another moment languishing in less than sublime fuzz, because in less than 25 minutes, you'll know what I know.

What you guys think: is this sound worth the hassle? Or is the Pickle to complicated for its own good?
I'm gonna have to go play with my pickle and check back in ;) thank you for the video, realllllly helps reign this beast in
I'm all for versatile pedals, but this is definitely too complicated. Having two relevant pots on the inside is not okay, and removing them like they did for mk3 was a mistake IMHO.
Check out the "Engorged Gherkin" though. To me, it looks like a Swollen Pickle upgrade done right.
@@ericjonsson Agreed on all points. There's a mod to reroute the internal trim pots to the outside and if I was one to tweak knobs all the time, I'd probably do it. I've heard of the Gherkin before, but I haven't looked into too much. I'll have to check it out.
I love and hate this pedal. So many unusable settings and about two or three settings that I love. I ended up moving the internal pots to the outside and now I can stop pretending that there is a better setting hiding inside. 🙃
I definitely think it is worth it. You just have to work with it for a while, and not be a dumb dumb. I can get so many tones out of it, whatever the track needs. If you are a one trick pony guitarist or bassist, maybe you should just get a big muff and make the same boring sound for the rest of your life.
Thank you so much for this. I've had one for years and had never been able to get a good sound out of it. This makes so much more sense.
I feel like describing the crunch control as a form of compression doesn’t help. Maybe it’s like a kind of compression that happens prior to the clipping diodes/LEDs, but turning it to the right actually increases the dynamic range of the pedal like massively. That splatty thing you describe is actually the result of a higher threshold of headroom prior to distortion. The peaks of your pick attack are coming through undistorted with weird frequencies emphasized by the filter control. turning crunch to the left is what is compressing the signal by letting it distort at lower volume levels, and it smooths out the sound. People gotta understand this to get the most out of the pedal imo. You can get unbelievably huge tones that still keep the details of your playing dynamics if you stack this with an overdrive prior to it in the chain with the SP’s crunch control turned up appropriately. It’s like a diabolical clean boost.
Wren and cuff pickle pie b is the move trust 🙏
Its an exceptional pedal, you had achieved some great bass tones there !! 🧐
so swollen pickle indeed solved .
Well done bro..!!👍
Thanks dude! I've been using the Pickle on guitar for years, but I could not get a decent bass tone out of it. Great explanation.
I appreciate a lot the video. Everyone that owns a Swollen Pickle should check it. Thanks!
Saw Wine Lips a few weeks ago the bass player was using an SP and it sounded amazing
Absolutely perfect. Thank you. Just what I’ve been looking for since I got the swollen pickle. Not sure how - you knew to start from the inner pots, but it made ALL the difference in the world for my new…your approach.

@AMP you should do a Mikey shoes tone video, he’s such an underrated player x
This is a powerful fuzz and not for beginners necessarily but one of the only fuzzes you'll need once you get it down
This thing is insane.
Thing to remember is that the sound you get when you’re sat on your tod is sometimes no use compared with when you’re with your band as it can get lost in the mix, or so I’ve found, anyway. So the remark about getting “lost in a sea of guitars” is very important,
this is perfect for stoner/doom stuff or ambient stoner I call it because some are instrumental bands. it's now my favorite type of music. like Stone Rebel for example. amazing stuff.also clouds taste satanic, Buffalo fuzz, King Weed, King Buffalo, Fren, Khan, Liquify. these are the best. if you want more metal go for Joe Stump's stuff he is killer.
fucking well done
Kind of reminds me of stuff from the Chemical brothers on the Hanna movie soundtrack.
fuck yea!
What kind of strings are you using? Thanks.
Oh yeah. Very nice shirt. It’s got a great print design.

Late to the game, but worth noting: this pedal (as perhaps other fuzzes on bass), are extremely picky/sensitive when used with other fx in the chain.
Your attention is or was rite on got me thinking let me subscribe ......
On paper (schematic) It’s just a modded twicked big muff period…
hey! what a cutie pie
All that and no blend control...
Sorry, but I feel this post is too focused on the manual and not playing the pedal to see what it can do.
Is that a joke?
