Counterfeit Boardwalk Empire DVD Box Set from eBay UK

- I bought this box set from a seller here in the UK on eBay. I paid about £10 for it, which is a reasonable price to pay, but when it arrived there were so many defects in the packaging and the layout that there is no doubt that it is a counterfeit.

Thank you for putting this video up for us. You are the only one who has been able to answer my questions. I wondered how ebay sellers make counterfeit dvds. I guess we would never know for sure what we are getting. Thanks again. You have been a big help!
I'm here viewing this video because I had a near identical experience with a "Law & Order" boxset I bought from eBay, after giving up on seasons 8-20 ever being released in the UK. It apparantly was a US supplier. The disks played, mostly, and the quality looked ok on a small screen. It was only when I recently decided to rip the episodes to a media server showing on a big screen TV that I noticed all the off things about the DVD: the region 0 coding whereas the packaging said R1 (at the time I was delighted to discover that I didn't need a multiregion player!), then my newly discovered facts: the track files are half the size of the ones on the genuine DVDs I had for seasons 1-7. The fake DVDs are single layer, authored by "VSO Software" with everything extra compressed to fit inside 4.7GB, looking terrible on big tv. The genuine DVDs are dual layer and look not bad for NTSC SD. Like you I'm amazed that they went to all that trouble with the packaging, mine had no printing errors to give it away. The disks themselves are pressed, but from a "home media" authored image.
Why spend so much money making a fake? Whats the usual retail price of this boxset?
Wow! It's been a minute!!! I'm pretty sure I bought 11 seasons of of ebay and the video's look terrible. The dvd's have what looks like little bubbles under the stickers or print. But everything else looks good, although the covers look a bit snowy to me but The writings are clear. They say they are aspect ratio 19:9 enhanced so shouldn't the picture be clear on a 4k 75" TV?
I bought a game of thrones box set on ebay that is counterfeit. This video helped me to know for sure. I bought my set from a california seller but it came from China. My first big flag was that the box is much thinner and put together differently with the dvd's stacked 2 per fold instead of 1 per fold. The upc does not match the real ones and it says latin spanish instead of spanish. The box will not fold correctly with the booklet in it's slot. beware on ebay if they don't show the set unfolded and definetly ask questions.
;( I payed 25£ for Doctor Who Series 7, I thought the DVD covers looked low quality but ignored it as it has the sticker on the front listing the bonus features, you've now confirmed my suspicions. I bought it 1 year ago so...to late now ;(
You have a Canadian rating on the back of the case! It seems that fake was meant for the Canadian market.

As soon as you put the real DVD in it starts with the ident, but what started ,although you can't really upload footage here cause of copyright, when you put the counterfeit Broadwalk Empire DVD in the player?
Same thing happened to me a few years ago with a Buffy box set. Looked real in the pictures sold and shipped in the UK but was fake got my money back no problems from ebay.
The price should have been abit of a giveaway!!

Did you see all this before you opened this set, cause if you did you could have gotten your money back. Now it may be difficult cause the seller could say you switched it out. Are you going to try and send them back even though you have played them and they work. What's up
i have bought bootlegs on ebay too when it says "brand new". this pisses me off so much.. Do you keep these counterfeits or get your money back.. They are alot cheaper but still upsetting when you expect new genuine product.. I just ordered a set of Sons of Anarchy dvd's on ebay and the seller had 100% positive feedback.. However when i looked into their past items sold (i did this after winning the auction..dumb me) i seen they had sold 20 or 30 of the identically SOA 1-6 sets that i just won..
That's not good! It is hard to tell because the discs are silver! That makes it harder for me when sorting the DVDs to sell at the charity shop I work at :(

You should carefully inspect the DVDs but you probably know by now.
I would say these are morally worse than the obvious fakes (and even those are a case of paying for what you can torrent for free)
With obvious fakes, you _know_ you're pirating, with someting with this much effort going into it, you buy it thinking that you're buying genuine and therefore supporting the creators, you're also paying far more for something like this than an obvious DVD-R because you're buying under the belief that it's genuine.
So you're being conned into pirating when you're wanting to buy genuine.

i think your 50p estimate to make is very low. they are dual layered. i would say 1.50 to make, and apart from that bad cover looks damn good copy. hey if the things work, and ripped as a direct copy and you paid less than retail then i would be ok IF I KNEW they fake. i do not think these are chinese though, although i have seen fake eggs now from china, god damn fake eggs omg lol. superb series as well. HBO make some awsome tv.
Good luck when you buy any cd or dvd box sets......the joke is even the real box sets are made in China....But the quality is higher lol....
