  • With thanks to Mark from DextersLab2013, we decided to connect various electronic components to a Magstim HV capacitor; ~230 Joules of energy.

It would have been sweet to have the slowmo guys come around.

Someone tell them to drop in, i am sure we can find something to blow up

    Hi, guys. ;)
Great collab. The Interweb needs more of this.
Hate to imagine what prolonged use of a (unmodified) magstim actually does to people's brains. lol

Loved the bit where matey whacked his head on the window. lol
I couldn't figure out what had happened at first, but it was a great moment.

Cap banks are fun - I have a 24,000uf 900 volt one here, all in an electrical cabinet. Charging is accomplished by a pair of 24v 55aH SLA batteries connected to a royer oscillator driving a home made transformer. Control is via bluetooth using an android tablet. Trigger is a rather large hockey puck thyristor. Hes right about needing ear defenders. At full power my bank has had the police around a few times as I live in suburbia. It sounds like a discharge from a 12 guage :P
btw 4 people dislike loud bangs. I think they're fun, especially when created by electricity. I swayed the votes in your favour, one thumbs up :)

Oh no - not the Motorola chips - the humanity. :o

ElectronAsh All of the components we destroyed were damaged or unusable, apart from the two fuses but I don't imagine there will be many tears shed for those.

      Hehe. No probs, Carl.
I'm sure there are a fair few million left anyway, and it's worth it to see the sparks. :p

      ElectronAsh Definitely worth it!
I'm hoping to find some ideas of other things to destroy. Meanwhile, Mark is looking for parts to build a bigger capacitor bank.

I have an 060 on that board you sent me, and I'll probably never even get around to killing it. lol

i expected that CPU die to crack but no.. looks like tracks blow off

Yes, CPUs seem to be a challenge, we should try a ceramic one
