Cap banks are fun - I have a 24,000uf 900 volt one here, all in an electrical cabinet. Charging is accomplished by a pair of 24v 55aH SLA batteries connected to a royer oscillator driving a home made transformer. Control is via bluetooth using an android tablet. Trigger is a rather large hockey puck thyristor. Hes right about needing ear defenders. At full power my bank has had the police around a few times as I live in suburbia. It sounds like a discharge from a 12 guage :P btw 4 people dislike loud bangs. I think they're fun, especially when created by electricity. I swayed the votes in your favour, one thumbs up :)
ElectronAsh All of the components we destroyed were damaged or unusable, apart from the two fuses but I don't imagine there will be many tears shed for those.
ElectronAsh Definitely worth it! I'm hoping to find some ideas of other things to destroy. Meanwhile, Mark is looking for parts to build a bigger capacitor bank.
It would have been sweet to have the slowmo guys come around.
