    Very nice indeed. I like a few (little) air bubbles. It adds personality to the fake stone.

    I just purchased this cement mold set, and I am going to use a water based spray on stain to make my stones have a natural colored stone variation effect. This was VERY helpful! Thank you 🙏

    Thank you so much for taking time to do this great video!! We have watched it several times before doing our first set today. So far so good 👍🏼 We did get two sets of molds so we can go a bit faster. Trying to get all the tips we can to ensure a great firepit patio area. Wondering if anyone has tried the penetrating stain for color vs. the color added to cement mixture? Thanks!

    • @mountainbuck
      @mountainbuck  3 роки тому

      Hey Carol, thanks so much for the kind words! I haven't personally tried the penetrating color, but you should definitely try a batch and see how it comes out (I did quite a bit of experimenting with color variations). Best of luck with the firepit/patio. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

    Awesome Job Sir!
    I just purchased the same set and planning to do something similar. I have two questions.
    Did you leave space between each stone or are they touching at the base while still allowing for sand to be added to the joints?
    It looks like you worked on this when the weather was still cool. Any problems with the stones curing in the colder temperatures?

    • @mountainbuck
      @mountainbuck  3 роки тому +1

      Hey James, thanks for checking out my channel! When you lay the stones down, there is a natural space in between them. I tried to get them as close together as possible, but there was still a small gap. I did most of the work during spring/summer and shot the instructional video in December. I noticed that the stones cured better on hotter days. If you are making the stones during the colder months, you may want to give them a couple of days to set up (you can remove from molds and just set aside). Good luck!

    I really enjoyed your video! You did an excellent job.
    I would like to know how is everything holding up after 1 year. Do you have to fight the weeds a whole lot???

    • @mountainbuck
      @mountainbuck  2 роки тому

      Hey thanks csaba Paltan! Everything is holding up great! The only thing I want to do is power wash the patio. Moss has developed in a few spots in between the stones. I will most likely power wash and reapply some of the sand. Other than a bit of moss in a few spots, it’s all good 👍🏻

    Great instructional video, thanks for helping us out and posting it! Only question I have is, is there a reason why “quick set” concrete can’t be used? I’ve looked and can’t find a reason why not to. If I do use fast set concrete I should be able to make 5-7 form sets a day. Thanks again

    • @mountainbuck
      @mountainbuck  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Jason! Thanks for checking out my channel! I think it may have to do with the strength rating of the concrete. I’d check the rating on the quick set and see if it suits your needs. You could always try a few with quick set and test them out once they harden. Best of luck with your project! 👍🏻

    Great video and thank you for the list of supplies! Is 4 inches of gravel needed before you add the leveling sand?

    • @mountainbuck
      @mountainbuck  2 роки тому

      Hey Jay! Thanks for the kind words! I definitely don’t think I added 4 inches of gravel. It was less than that, for sure. Best of luck with your project! 👍🏻

      yes, plus the stone dust, compacting every 2in. please use real stone or pavers. this guy is going to have a stoney/grassy part of his yard (with a falling down pergola) in about 5 years. Just hire a pro and youll have a nice patio for life. not just a stoney grass bare spot in youre yard.

      Hey Thanks for checking out my channel Mike's Garage! Not gonna lie... it took a while to create all of the stones and it was a grind. Totally worth it though as we saved a lot of money this way. The whole thing took probably 6-8 weeks or so.
