Just received your turtle stepping stone, going to fill it half way like you suggested, then add a cut out piece of chicken wire. That way if one should crack it won't separate.
Great instructions on the process. Do you know if it's possible to use press-in letters to put a name or date??? It would have to be out of the mold to do the correct side.
How strong are those large stones with no gravel in them? Looks like they'd be good for decorative uses but not strong enough to be used as actual stepping stones.
Great tutorial! Question: it looked like the mold you used the release agent in changed the color and consistency slightly from the other two, was it noticeable when fully cured?
hello! just curious. does applying mold release have an effect when painting the concrete when it's dry? especially with motor oil. i mean, will the oil on the dried surface going to cause the paint to not adhere well?
Thanks for the question. This mold has a very fine texture and I didn't want to use vibratory table for the video. I used mortar mix (due to it has no gravel, only sand) to get rid of air bubbles easier. This mold is around 2 in thick, cracking shouldn't be an issue. The stones I made are still good today. For the stepping stones I prefer CTS 24/6 fast-setting concrete mix. To prevent cracking I'd use anti-crack fiber reinforcement (32-500 concrete fibers).
Cement mix is much stronger than mortar. I question how strong these would be if used as stepping stones that people actually walk on... they'd probably crack fairly easy.
I recently tried Portland cement and made a stepping stone. I let it harden and next day I stepped on it and it broke in half. Then I saw your video and purchased mortar mix. I haven't tried it yet. Do your stepping stones break easy? Is Mortar mix better and stronger than regular Portland cement?
@@angelaallen2190 The stones are very fragile the next day with most concrete mixes. With the Mortar mix we wait ~2-3 days before use them. BTW, the common belief is that concrete takes 28 days to reach most of its strength. However to speed up the process try any fast-setting concrete. The one we use for all our new molds is Cement All by Rapid Set. It's expensive, but the quality is awesome. And it really takes about an hour to get the stone. For any fast-setting concrete, don't mix too much, keep in mind that you have about 20 minutes working time.
@@autumn8468 Ok thank you. I guess I should have given it more time for the stone to set before stepping on it. I'll make sure my next one I'll let it sit for a few days. Thanks for responding and for the advice.
Not only was this an excellent step by step video it was also oddly relaxing.
Really appreciate the no B.S. video! Thank you.

Good idea, mine cracked. I’ll try that too
@@bondito88 I ended up using hardware cloth with the half inch squares in the main body and strips into the legs and it held up.
@@flynnstone3580 even better! Thanks bro 😎
@@flynnstone3580 you have any idea why they come out the mold with some bubbles holes?
@@bondito88 you have to tap the bottom of the mold about a dozen times with a hammer to get the bubbles to rise to the surface after you pour it.👍
If you wanted to add glass beads, would you put in the beads first and pour over it? What would you use for sealant?

Excellent video! I love the molds you used 🐾
YOU DID GREAT - these look amazing!
Thank you for the demonstration.

Motor oil does, the PAM cooking spray does not. After several rainy days they became indistinguishable.

Also, please make a video with the turtle mold!
Will do!

Thank you love your simple tutorial look easier and enjoyable to watch ❤️🥰
I just ordered these paw print molds your tutorial, which is great
Did you paint a sealer over the paver and if so when?
Mortar over cement?
Did you use a mold release agent?
Wow thanks will be trying when I do let u know
Thanks for the video , I tried this but the dried stepping stone, I could scrape the morter mix, it was sandy. any thoughts?
Use cement over mortar, its much stronger.
Love the video. Do you make any garden inspired molds? Such as, flowers or leaves.
Flowers available. Please check here: autumndirect.com/collections/molds
Hi thanks for the video. Very easy to follow.. they came out gorgeous. Can you do hands or do they sell hand molds? I'd love to try this..
No hands yet, but have feet) www.amazon.com/AUTUMN-Footprint-Stepping-Concrete-Footprints/dp/B0B1WB9RLM. Hands added to the list to make
Awesome

Is the largest one a 13 or 16 inch mold?
Hi, great video. About how many you can make out of a 80lb cement bag?
Thanks
Do you add samd
Is it better to use mortar mix like you have, or concrete mix (concrete has small aggregate)?
Cement mix is much stronger than mortar. I question how strong these would be if used as stepping stones that people actually walk on... they'd probably crack fairly easy.
They turned out great. Did you use Mortar Mix to fill the molds?
Yes, just the Mortar Mix + water and colorant

I would like to get the paw print mold, where did you get it ?
We made them. Please check the link: autumndirect.com/collections/molds
5:42 does it need a spray of water occasionally at this stage?
Depends on the temperature outside. Rapid drying will increase the possibility of cracking.
@@autumn8468 Conctere/morter does not dry, it cures. Ir requires water to cure properly so . . . keeping concrete moist is best for about 7 days.
