Potting a Peruvian Torch for Maximum Roots!

- In this video, I show you how I plant some Peruvian Torch (Trichocereus Peruvianus) cuttings, in a way that they will root heavily. This info is of course also valid for the San Pedro cactus (T. Pachanoi), the Bolivian Torch (T. Bridgesii) and other sacred columnar cacti.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are interested in buying pure, well identified San Pedro seeds and seedlings, as well as San Pedro relatives, please email me at: sanpedromastery@protonmail.com
If you have a question, I will only reply to questions about cultivation. Please no questions about the psychedelic properties of these cacti. - Навчання та стиль
No worries on the delay, Jerry.
Family is important.
A small tip for anyone using a high ratio of perlite in any mix for any purpose, especially in a container like airports with lots of cavities...water very gently!
Otherwise the soil will wash away from the perlite as it floats to the surface...it is very buoyant!

Awesome videos I wish you made one a day or more but I know your busy so I’ll take what I can get, thanks Hunter Trail
You are a master 💙🙏🏼 thank you for making videos!
Welcome back friend!
Thank you for this video, very good information, looking forward to many more, my plants are very healthy and happy here. Thank you again
Love these videos. Thanks for uploading.
Fantastic! Your videos are the best. Thank you
Very informative! Watching from New Zealand!
Great channel mate, lots of help. Thanks
I use to have a rare high alkaloid specimen(I think it was panchoi from Peru) years ago from a famous Cactus guru that I haven’t been able to find. It had short spines and was a gorgeous blue green when grown with shade cloth. It grew like a weed and cloned very easily. My mother was stolen.
I’m ordering some “Bolivian torch” babies soon.
hey Jerry, your seedlings I got off you are almost 2ft tall. if you place small cuttings on damp soil in spring, they produce roots with no rot 100% of the time. Ive turned a few meters into about 50 plants this way. Thanks for the seedlings and your videos, they've been the only reason i started growing them in the first place.
100% soil or 50:50 organic to inorganic? can you please explain more im a bit confused, but it sounds very intresting.
Hi Jerry pls upload more videos this year! we love u, the grandfather Wachumas calls u
Did you ever release the video comparing the bottoms that were cut more extensively vs flat cuts to compare their roots?
nice video
Ola from South Africa. Great channel. Any plans for a video Identifying Peruvian Torch?
Your channel is super helpful, thankyou! I just potted my first specimens yesterday but I did it directly into the final pot, with about 75/25 potting mix to perlite. I haven't watered them, but am wondering how I will know when to start giving them some water, since I can't see the roots.. Any tips you could share would be really appreciated. 💛
Jerry, you are the best! Thanks for all the great content! I received a 3ft san Pedro cutting and I wonder if I can propagate in winter and best practice. My winter temp lows are 30-40F or 0-4C. This video sounds applicable? Thanks.
What a very informative tutorial. Anyway, do you how is the best way to remove or to cut the spines?
Could you add one log style and show its progress too?
When you do the comparison video of how to cut the bottom for the greatest root growth, I think you should do one with a slant cut on the bottom (45 degree angle). There are growers of large columnar cactus who do it that way because they say it gives the cactus more stability when planted, and more surface area to root. Also, if a cactus was cut down into multiple sections, all slant cut, the middle cuts would callous on top a way that wont collect water. I was thinking that was the way to go, not that I have experience with it yet. The rivited rooting cut looks interesting, and I would like to see the results of that.
Hi Jerry I've sent an email to you today might have ended up in junk. Keep up the good work, peace 👍
Why have you not uploaded a video on the progress of the roots like you said in this video please?
Nice video, thanks. Question: You put the torches ca. 20 cm into the soil. Does this part of the cactus not start to rot? Or at least lose all the chlorophyll, meaning that it will turn brown? I would have expected that you put maximum ca. 10 cm of the cactus into the soil. Thanks for answering
How long can a rooted peyote or san pedro stay above ground before putting it in?
Should the soil be dry or damp?
Is it better to do this in warmer or cooler seasons? How about light exposure?
Did you water the soil before added to the pot and cutting?
How did the rooting of these cacti went? Did it had the affect you wished? Can we see and update on this video?
Any update on these Jerry?
I always take a clean cut to the plant, jagged cuts can collect moisture and home pathogens. Also, better to rest cuts in cool, shaded, well-ventilated place to avoid all the nasty stress and damage on the plant....
hi there i have a question about drying or preparing cuttings for indoors when drying should it be done in complete darkness ?
Hey Jerry! I love your work! Can you please make a video about how to avoid, identify and treat mold? I think I just killed most of my seeds because I removed the cover of my pot in order to kill the mold. But now I think that wasn't mold but just the roots...
Sorry to hear about that. That is a very common beginners mistake, their roots at the beginning look like a tiny moldy "umbrella", but they are not moldy, it's just the root.
Hi Jerry how are these peruvianus doing now?
Hi, do you have any advice on identifying a Peruvian torch cactus? I’m not sure if the one I have is a Peruvian torch or not.
U can use aloe vera for rooting contains rooting hormones naturally !!!!!!!!!!
Why do u recommend 25 percent regular potting soil why not cactus soil?
How long should the roots be before potting them? Mine are rooting now but just very short yet. I dont know when to pot and water it. Pls help
Where you get the pot?
is that a variegated cutting?
Aloe vera is a natural rooting option u should check out 💚🌱
What size cactus would be too small for cloning? I have two torches that are 3.5 feet tall and 1-1.5 inches diameter grown from seed.
Jerry i need my fix get your post more regualer
Also please do a video on honey water and whether or not it speeds up root growth
I have tried it, still not sure if it made a difference.
@@sanpedromastery6262 Ive tried using honey water to root plant cuttings before, resulted in some really smelly water lol
Please keep us updated on if the air pot cuttings did better.
Yes they did.
@@sanpedromastery6262 where can I buy the air pots?
Once you put the cactus in 75% perlite and soil mix how long do you wait before repotting them?
Sorry for the late reply. You can wait a few months, the longer the better as it will have more roots.
Is it okay for them to be in full sun while it's trying to root?
Does this one contain mescaline;
Hey Jeri do you recommend log growing Peruvian Torch? Also, would you use the same soil set up as this video with no watering as well?
Literally in the past week I noticed that my 5 inch cutting has a new pup growing. I am doing the log method.
I’m going to plant my ladies in fabric pots with 70% perlite, 20% Fox Farm happy frog and 10% worm castings.
Hey Jerry. I have 2 column cactus and they started becoming blue, I read online that mescaline cactae become blueish. I tried finding the species but can’t seem to find anywhere. Can you advise?
Many types of Peruvian torch can have a slight blue hue. I think I even have a Bolivian torch that is a little blue. I don’t think t pachanoi can be blue though. The blue doesn’t have anything to do with alkaloid content
Are You french?
That´s not necessary to burry all this size of the cactus, only got to support the plant above the earth and burry just the necessary to keep standing..
75%perlite damn u must be rich
Show how to extract san pedro
This channel is only about cultivation but you can find many videos in this topic on youtube.
Extraction is the easiest part. Growing is the pain
Do you sell torch insence?
BTC :)
