    I’m gonna make a bold claim: despite the legacy of the classic TS circuit, I think the Plumes has what it takes to become the modern “gold standard” when it comes to overdrive. I’m seeing it everywhere and I’ve never heard someone get a bad sound out of it. And that includes using it on bass. It’s. That. Good.

      It's a better stand-alone overdrive than a stock TS and way more versatile for sure. For the price it's also a way better deal than a standard Ibanez TS808 or Maxon OD808 at the moment, at least where I live.
      Using it as a booster for metal though (which is realistically speaking almost the main purpose of tubescreamers nowaday), the extra modes hardly make a difference, the added bass response won't give you as much tightness and the more open top end coupled with the fact that the tone control mainly affects bass response may be undesirable to some players. Great if you want a booster that doesn't cut your bass or a more natural sounding TS tone.

    • @EpicStuffMan1000
      @EpicStuffMan1000 3 роки тому +3

      @@MrJesusCrisp The middle, removed diode mode could probably get you more boost as you can turn up the gain and still not clip the pedal. But other than that, there isn't much merit to using a highly modified tube screamer as just a boost, any TS will do largely the same thing. Anyone looking for a different type of high gain boost, I definitely recommend trying a klon style pedal set similar to how you'd set a tubescreamer for that kind of boost.

    The Plumes is, IMO, the most versatile drive pedal made. It is excellent into a clean amp on its own, it stacks well with most other dirt pedals and it sounds great into an already overdriving amp. I bought one when they first came out because it was a new EQD release & I like EQD, but it was only $99. I was totally surprised at how great this pedal was. I'm on my 6th one because when I would jam with friends(ahh..the pre-COVID world) they would like mine so I would just give mine to them & order another. Did I mention they're only $99? I'm using a cool purple sparkle one on my board now. If you don't have one, you should get one. You won't be disappointed. If you hate the olive drab color, check some EQD dealers as they have a lot of custom color ones floating around.

      I had one and sold it within a weak. Idk it didn't work with the 4+ amps and cabs I had. My bogner 101B couldn't save it either. Pretty disappointed since it was hyped to the moon and back

    Honestly outside of the classic tube screamer this is the best overdrive I've heard. Tone knob all the way to the left it keeps that low end in which sounded amazing. Reminded me of why I like the JB pick ups so much. Would love to hear this directly compared to me. Sparkles with the fishman. But I think your gold RS is the best sounding one.

  • @pellevastano

    So, on a schematic level it is really interesting to look at the Plumes compared to other screamer pedals. On the surface, they look similar, but there are a lot of changes to the circuit that are interesting. A lot of the changes also lead me to ask why no one before Jamie tried them. For example, the tone control is not that different, there's only an added capacitor, but it's such a simple addition it surprises me no one tried to prototype that on a breadboard.

    I usually hate hypes. But this pedal is the real deal. From crunch tones to light overdrive to full blown searing leads. It can be used for anything.
    Personally i use mine on mode 3 as a tube screamer. Mode 2 to add saturation to leads and mode 1 for crunchy rifss.
    It's on nearly every guitar track I prosuce

    If I had one complaint, the LED is extremely bright. Very minor detail.

      Put a piece of electrical tape over it lol

      @@blazer6248 not electrical tape. Then you can't tell if it's on. Just use one or two layers of masking tape. It's semi transparent. Still visible, but toned down to your liking.
