    No one will probably see this comment to how late I am lol. I have made the level 3 chef recipe because I was curious and a bit stubborn to except that the flavors all go together. However, it has been the best Mac and Cheese I have ever made(according to myself and my family who are very picky themselves). The taste is so outrageously flavorful that it works. Please, I know many, many, people have complained about it, but how about you give it try first and then see how you feel about it? For those considering themselves a level 2(like myself) and loveeee to cook, don’t throw this amazing recipe away!!

      Isn't macaroni the pasta itself? The type of pasta you are referring to are elbows but they alone are not macaroni. Any pasta used in this dish I think is considered macaroni.

      @@patrykkuffel2679 No. The pastas used in this video were all of the macaroni variety, which are tube shaped, but it's not just any pasta that you use in the dish. For example, angel hair pasta isn't macaroni. You could still put cheese sauce on angel hair pasta, but that wouldn't make it macaroni and cheese.

    Everyone is choosing to completely omit the fact that the Level 3 chef also added smoked bacon and pepper to his crumb topping, instead choosing to only focus on the sweet things he added to it.
    Honestly, he was probably going for a savory spicy-sweetness with that crumb topping.

      He said that’s what he was going for. And he added sweetness to the sauce too, not just the toppings.
      It’s probably tastes good, but I do not want a sweet Mac and cheese. I don’t even want a spicy Mac and cheese. I want _macaroni_ and _cheese_ , if I wanted graham crackers I’d eat them for desert.

    I am a level 6 chef. I thought the ingredients into existance and added flavor by touching it. I grated the cheese with my elbow to give it extra flavor and instantaneously boiled it with air in an air pan.

      what really got me is that the cheese on top is SO much better if u just turn the broiler on for a couple minutes at the end!! then the cheese gives the whole dish at least a little texture and color

    There's much to be said for simplicity - sometimes, you can do too much. A good Mac and Cheese doesn't need much to be good. For me, Ada's would be the one I'd choose. Nice job, Ada!! :)

    I feel like Ada needed more sauce to make it more creamy, like the Food Scientist said, it likely didn't cover every part of it.
    Other than that, and perhaps putting butter in before her seasoning, she did a good job.

    I think level 3 knows what he's doing but I can see why some people would be put off by the topping. If he didn't add it, I feel like more people would agree that the level 3 cheese mixture looked the most flavorful and delicious

      I'm Italian and I hate when an Italian American talks about Italian kitchen. I mean it's not just parmigiano reggiano cheese, pasta and tomato sause, there is so much more. Italy has 20 regions with 20 different stories ana different cultural influences, so Italian kitchen is a very huuuuge subject. Plus not all the italians outthrre are good chefs. So please, stop it

    Just a personal opinion when it comes to Mac & Cheese… use conchiglie (shells/seashells) pasta. It holds cheese so well. Every bite is a burst of goodness.

    So I was really intrigued by the level 3 chefs recipe, so I set myself on replicating it since it’s a pretty simple recipe all things considered.
    It was so freaking good. The topping had more of an impact than the standard bread crumb, and actually felt like it had a purpose, but the cheese was not lost. It was a lot of cheese and kinda pricey, but it was so freaking worth it.
    I’m not gonna make it every time I want Mac and Cheese, but I will definitely treat myself occasionally, and will take it to potlucks.
    Edit: The recipe in the description is definitely borked when it comes to the spices. It’s balanced for roughly 8-10 portions I’d say. I skipped the add water step since it wasn’t in the video and moved the decimal one space left for the spices, so 5.4 grams of Mustard for example. Worked fine for me.

      Probably because they recognize that complex flavours usually taste better? There's nothing wrong with just keeping it basic, but basic things like adding texture and contrasting flavors really make a difference.     When I make macaroni and cheese, I use cheddar, bleu cheese and either Parmesan or pecorino Romano. Nutmeg is a must. I also like adding vegetables to it (usually peas and chopped jalapeño peppers). I made one for Thanksgiving this year and used buttermilk and a little heavy cream. SOOOO good.
    All of these looked really good, although I don't like American cheese.

    I love the corner pieces of a baked mac-n-cheese because they tend to have a slightly leathery texture. I like that chewiness. To accentuate this I use cast iron, buttered, and on the stove on medium heat as I pour in the noodle-cheese mixture. I let this sizzle for maybe 5 minutes, on the stove on medium heat. This starts the leathery texture on the bottom and sides. I then bake it like normal. You get a browned, chewy texture on the bottom and sides. Glass dishes don't seem to achieve this level of leatheriness.

    My cheese mix is cream cheese (treated almost like the butter for the roux (hope I used the right word)) then the shredded cheese is cheddar mostly but also (grated smaller) smoked gouda and parmigiana for the salt. The parmigiana is also mixed into the panko crust. I also use whole milk and butter in the roux. While I would add pepper, I can’t due to my mom’s allergies. I would love to, just can’t. We also use a ceramic gratin dish. If I feel fancy I might start my roux for the cheese sauce with bacon grease (later adding the bacon I made the grease with back into the Mac n cheese). I only do this for the flavor though. Yeah it’s a really rich dish. I would love to add some veggies too but can’t due to preferences of other people (pointed stare at said family member) and given that baked mac n cheese is a family shared type of dish….kinda gotta cater.

    Tip to try if you can't buy or afford panko/ crumb topping: try crushed up crisps on top. Just put less salt in your recipe to compensate (because the salt comes from the cheese, you can compensate by adding creme fraiche or even a plain yoghurt to balance the creaminess you want but reduce the salt content in the sauce, overall).

      IMHO she didn't use anywhere near enough cheese. Did it look good? Yes, would I eat it? Of course, but I would have added a bunch more cheese.

      @Low key bruh ada mac looked super dry and nothing special about it at all. I think level 3 was the best maybe a little less crumble and sweetness on top.
