Agreed. It's natural I think for there to be a bit of embellishment but sometimes I find they go over the top, whereas this episode like you say, kept true while still adding simple but effective chefy touches

Yes! I was getting so sick of these pro chefs completely destroying the point of the challenge, like Palak in particular... she was the worst offender, when making the dosas. Then there was the girl that made her own gluten free cheescake base, like this isn’t about your personal diet, if you’re taking this challenge then take the challenge! If you’re going to ignore the whole point, then don’t be on the show. You can tell this guy is an actual pro because he can work with what he’s given instead of bending the rules to try looking like he’s making the dish fancy.

It's more about the accessibility to the ingredients rather than the price of the ingredients. "More likely to find in the pantry or your local grocery store".
This episode was so refreshing! Usually the chef talks down on the cheaper recipe, the chef wasn't even phased and Emily made me so proud this episode. I remember when she put ketchup on her steak now sis is a home cook. I cook almost everyday and I would be terrified to cook the lobster.
I don't even know Emily, but I'm so proud of her. She went from being a level 1 chef to a homecook in the course of this series. That's character development!
After months of not watching Emily, i could say that she improving like a pro... improving her cooking skills... Im looking forward to her promotion as level 2 chef in coming months or year/s! We love to see level 1 grows from love & lessons taught by seasoned Professional Chefs.
Velveeta is super useful as a means of emulsifying hard cheeses. Tastes fine on its own, and not so flavorful that you can’t mix in other cheeses if you want.
@@majoroldladyakamom6948 Not sure if trolling but if the taste is a problem, you can achieve the same texture/melting properties of velveeta by melting the cheese of your choosing down in some evaporated milk and then combining it with gelatin. It’ll handle exactly like the store-bought stuff, while tasting however you like it.
That’s how this game should be played. I can’t believe the show producers never complained about the pro chefs adding expensive ingredients to the originally affordable ingredient list, just to show off. XD

I'm still very confused as to why the ketchup is included at all. I'm American, but never in my life have I ever seen a person eat mac & cheese with ketchup. But then, I one saw a guy in a restaurant put mustard in his grits, so some people just have some really weird food preferences.

I don't know why any side should ever be able to add or subtract anything. Is that not the whole challenge? Honestly, the bar is so low that everyone is happy he only added one ingredient and ignored how he just let the definition of croutons morph into large friend cheese-product sticks.
Also, lack of added ingredients aside, I am sure both chefs cooking their original recipes would have been better compared to the other cooking it, which just shouldn't be the case with a pro chef cooking. Again, such a low bar it makes me sad.

Of the few chefs I’ve known, one thing they all have in common is that they totally understand and acknowledge the appeal of any ingredient, whether it’s one with prestige or not, because they care about the impression food makes and not its pedigree. Maybe it’s because all the ones I know are Midwesterners and no one there is going to tolerate someone with pretense, but I think it’s more likely that really caring about your craft necessarily means that you’re not willing to dismiss any tools available to you just because they’re considered to be gauche. That’s a long-winded way of saying that Chef Bill Clark is a solid dude and I hope he keeps coming back.
If Frank was making the Mac & Cheese it would probably be like "Step 1: buy a patch of land to grow your own wheat." P. S. I love this channel and all of these chefs!
Frank was cooking on his own channel and I forget what he was making but here was me in the comments making all these suggestions to make his recipe better not realizing he was an actual professional chef. I think I corrected something he said wrong as well. It was strange because you can tell he is a professional chef on "Epicurious" but "Proto cooks" he seemed nervous and unsure what to do in his few first videos. I actually like Frank in these videos because he will also not add anything and just use what is given, yet he will try to elevate the dish - just as Bill did here.

Emily has always been my favourite personality on the Epicurious series, and now I see that we Canucks are just drawn together. I don't know Bill very well, but he earns major points for actually just using the ingredients he was given instead of throwing a professional pantry at it. I don't mind when a pro adds a fun touch or two, but I've always really wanted to see the chef work only with what they're given.

Of the few chefs I’ve known, one thing they all have in common is that they totally understand and acknowledge the appeal of any ingredient, whether it’s one with prestige or not, because they care about the impression food makes and not its pedigree. Maybe it’s because all the ones I know are Midwesterners and no one there is going to tolerate someone with pretense, but I think it’s more likely that really caring about your craft necessarily means that you’re not willing to dismiss any tools available to you just because they’re considered to be gauche. That’s a long-winded way of saying that Chef Bill Clark is a solid dude and I hope he keeps coming back.
Seeing a new video with Emily makes the world right again
These videos have been giving me the warm and fuzziness today. I'm going to try some cross between Bill and Emily's recipes tonight!
If Frank was making the Mac & Cheese it would probably be like "Step 1: buy a patch of land to grow your own wheat."

Frank was cooking on his own channel and I forget what he was making but here was me in the comments making all these suggestions to make his recipe better not realizing he was an actual professional chef. I think I corrected something he said wrong as well. It was strange because you can tell he is a professional chef on "Epicurious" but "Proto cooks" he seemed nervous and unsure what to do in his few first videos.
I actually like Frank in these videos because he will also not add anything and just use what is given, yet he will try to elevate the dish - just as Bill did here.
I love how some fancy restaurants serve or give Macaroni and Cheese 🧀 🫕
I loved Bill. He really reminds me of that friend who is really good at cooking, but also one of the guys you play Call of Duty with too :)

In the other série home cook is indeed level 2.

Chef Bill is immediately my new favorite for not adding anything but salt and pepper to the cheap dish. Hoping to see a lot more of him!
Emily has always been my favourite personality on the Epicurious series, and now I see that we Canucks are just drawn together.
I don't know Bill very well, but he earns major points for actually just using the ingredients he was given instead of throwing a professional pantry at it. I don't mind when a pro adds a fun touch or two, but I've always really wanted to see the chef work only with what they're given.
I love how freezing a live lobster for 15 minutes, stabbing it in the head and slashing the knife down it's entire body= 'dispatch'😆
