You can use your Presidium to tell glass from acrylic. Acrylic won't move the needle at all. Glass will, of course, register as glass. 😁
It's not registering glass at all 🤦 I've calibrated it 3 times and it moves when calibrating but not when testing 🤷🤦
Hi Bryten. Victorinox are the manufacturers of the Swiss Army knife, but they also make watches, cutlery, luggage, perfume, etc. Great quality. And, wow! That was some box!!!

I got a Goodwill Blue Box not too long ago, and I’ve heard horror stories about those! Mine was quite decent and although I’ve not sold much yet, I’m still sorting. I did get a nice amount of Sterling and a few brand name items, so I was pleased.

Sapphire and Ruby are both corundum, just different minerals mixed in during formation for color. So the gem tester can go bonkers on them.
Also, opal is a silicate so it will never show anything on the tester. There are ways to test them tho, they're all over YT. UV light is the way (!) to test for Aussie opals, but there are 2 steps. And there's more fake opal than real out there so be careful.
The amethysts in the gold earrings are called Rose de France, i believe. Very light in color.
Also, agates (and carnelian, chalcedony, onyx {a form of chalcedony}) will test as quartz, because that's what they are.

So funny!! I went to the Humane society thrift store the other day and bought a little jewelry jar and it was nothing but watches nine watches lol! All of them worked but 2 of them!!! I gave some to my mom, my daughter, my granddaughter, and I kept some!! Lol

yeay gold. congrats on finally getting the new gem tester, first thing, they are sooo finicky, bump it or move it too much and it'll need to be recalibrated. second, if a stone is coming up with a weird reading try moving to a different spot on the stone and maybe it'll read differently or maybe the stone is from the same family as what it reads, and that's what your wonderful brain should pick up quickly researching.what stones are in the same family. i wish i could remember a fraction of jewelry facts you do lol. oh texas gal treasures has a great video about how to manually reset/ calibrate the pgtll if all else fails and you don't want to send it off. its called How to Calibrate Presidium Gem Tester ii (PGT II) | Calibration Repair at Home

Gold filled jewelry can be scrapped, so you could check with a jewelry or coin dealer that accepts scrap gold and silver and find out the going rate for gold filled.

I had bad luck with a presidium. Stopped calibrating entirely after about three uses (granted it was about a year between the first and second use). But for the price, I would imagine it would last for a much longer time.
But your tester looks like it's working out well.

Please be more gentle with your presidium, they are very fragile. Mine is currently not working even though I'm very gentle with it. They are wanting me to send it in for repair which will cost around $100 which seems crazy to me!!

Gold fill jewelry can be worth 5% of gold value. I guess they can deprecate the gold from silver because of thickness of gold have no idea how to price however it seems more than silver ❤❤❤

Haskell is known for their REAL pearls. If the necklace @ 23:23 has fake pearls then it is not a Haskell piece. Yes, Haskell occasionally used fake pearls, and they probably made them really well, but they are not "known" for that.

Glad you got a presidium! Here are some tips. If your table has any metal right under the surface, put something underneath the presidium. Try not to move it. They are quite persnickity! They have a harder time calibrating and staying that way if moved around too much. Make sure it is as level as possible.
