I almost got in tears when I saw your video. I also studied at Tsinghua, I used to live at 21 building. Your video remind me the good times I spent at the university . Congratulations
Omg! Yeah, seeing the images of familiar places can be so emotional! I wish I could go back to that awesome year at Tsinghua. Crazy that you also lived at building 21!!! good times!
This comment made me smile
Which subject u were majoring in ?
@@user-yr4vp1jk7j She is from Australia.
I also studied abroad at Tsinghua! I spent a semester though, not as lucky as you two! I lived across the way, in building 19!
I am from New Zealand, I applied for Fudan University in Shanghai, I really hope I get in, so excited
thesuperproify congratulations 👍 Fudan University ist also such a good university.
Damn, one of the best, hope you get in.
Hope you get it!! I studied at Fudan for a year in 2014, its an amazing campus and you will have an awesome time there!!
I am from China, now working in Beijing. Your Chinese is really good!
Just checking in! Did you end up getting in to Fudan university???
Very lucky to be in one of the top universities in China.
the18Ting Lol, this is not one of the top, but the best uni without doubt in China.😂

Y Yes. Very easy. I can even exchange to Tsinghua without any difficulties
I went to Tsinghua in 2017 for a one-semester exchange from Sydney. It is lovely to watch your videos! They bring back a lot of memories I had in Beijing. Miss the food and people there. Enjoy! :)
zhicong zheng Don’t you have better things to do in life? What a loser!!
hey i was there too in 2017!
Hello!! That sounds amazing! What did you study ??

2019 and still enjoying your vids from then. Wish I was 40 years younger and could be where you are now. Aaah well, I have had the awesome pleasure of seeing China grow from a little village to a MEGA city! (metaphorically)
Riding a bike without a helmet as cars are zooming by right next to you, that's pretty normal in China. But doing that while recording a video and operating a camera with one hand, that's crossing the line a little.
hahahah
Helmets wont help if you get hit my a car, they're only their to protect the head if you fall off your bike by yourself.
Ben Withington It depends on how the car hit you. Sometimes a driver see bikers and hit the break right away, the car could come almost to a stop before it hits the biker.
ok, we did all sort of thing on bike in Tsinghua... a typical view, a girl sits on the front bar of the bike, and hold a cup of ice-cream or sth, and help her boyfriend to eat, while the lucky young guy is steering the bike. I pushed once to even further, with my sister sitting on the back.... :P so welcome.
Different from Australia, in China vehicles and bikes have separate lanes most of the time.
As an overseas Chinese when i look at your 'text' book yet all written in Chinese, i almost fainted and admire your courage to take up Chinese language! Salute!
This is the single best university video I've ever seen. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you👌
Foreigners come to China always get looked after well in the uni, like accomodation and study....however, my fellow Chinese international students become the money making machine for Australian unis...
but anyway, i am so glad you enjoy and love the time in China, hope you share these to more Aussies, let them to know more about China, we are not world factory and 'evil' hostile country...
It's still west dominant world, what do you expect?

@@lilin3005 To some extent it doesn't matter even at Tsinghua and Fudan international students don't get much of an education. It certainly doesn't come to class to an average University in the west. Keep in mind I'm talking about the international program not actual University Chinese students go to. I would never study at an international program at a Chinese university considering I could always get a much better education in the states (unless it's something Chinese Literature, Chinese, or anything relating to Chinese culture).
The op has a point though I don't see any reason why International students shouldn't stay in the exact same rooms as Chinese students. But I'm not sure if the provincial governments would be okay with that. There might even be some Chinese students who might not be okay with being roommates with students from certain countries. People ask for something but is what they really want? It's certainly not what the central or even the provincial governments want. The psb doesn't want it either.
Loved this video. Had me in stitches a few times - a level sarcasm and humour that only an Aussie can manage.
Memories.... I studied at Tsinghua 10 years ago. There's so much I forgot about like the canteen with escalators, c-lou. That road down to Wudaokou, doing the homework in a cafe. And that gym. Ha! I used to train there too.

Tsinghua is really easy to get in if your a foreigner. As long as you past the English and Chinese exam you get in.
@@blubears western, European as long as your not from asia. Because China really like foreigners from different countries. They even hire white people to act as if they work in a company for meetings.
I heard about this too. My grandma is from Beijing and she told me about this. There was an upperclassmen that graduated my highschool that got into Tsinghua purely from the fact they were black and from America
Lived in that neighborhood for 7 years, I missed it so much after watching your video.

Tsinghua is beautiful. I hope for justice for one of their previous student, Zhu Ling who was poisoned there and never got justice. She was one of their top students, in music, chemistry, and swimming. Now she is mentally and physically disabled due to the poisoning. Please share so we can reopen her case and continue investigation to find out who did this to her!
wasn’t it highly thought to be her roommate or something? i’m not sure cause i only watched stephanie soo’s video on it but i remember her mentioning that all signs pointed to her but her parents were influential or something so she got away w it :(
I'm currently in class 10. Let's hope I can get into tsinghua one day. I literally love Chinese language and I can't wait to study it as my main subject and live my life.
You need to work really hard and better good at math and science. The life time experiences you will never regret, as you will study with talented guys from 1.4bn ppl in a great campus in a capital city of the future heart of the world! Good luck! Go for it!
Feeling very nostalgic about China, the bicycle sharing apps, c building, even the smell of the sewers as I watch your video Amy!
I love the canteen in China, when i just moved to Sydney high school, everyday I was hungry😂. I wish my son's primary school have that kind of canteen.

The OP is also a foreigner. She and Overseas Chinese people have the foreign nationality/citizenship privilege.
To the locals there, it is a different ballpark.
Of course, for natives and foreigners alike, they have to pay the tuition fee.
I am actually glad that my family has moved out of China when I was younger. Dad wanted to stay and work in China. Mom wanted to leave. So, Dad followed Mom's wishes and contacted various professors from various universities all over the world, and found a job in the US. I had my entire education in the USA, and I take great pride in my education and upbringing. The Chinese education system (and I think, South Korea and Japan and Taiwan as well) is extremely competitive. People generally go for the top schools in China or attend foreign schools overseas. The children of rich people may not make it into the top schools for various reasons (ethnic minorities preference, foreigner preference, etc.), but their parents may send the kids abroad to obtain an education, and the smart ones may return to China to work (in the past, the smart ones may actually stay in the country and settle there because the living conditions are always better than that in China). Meanwhile, the not-so-smart ones just waste their parents' money and their own personal time in college.

Omg I don’t know if you’ll see this, but I really want to go to China or Taiwan to be more fluent with my Chinese. At first, I was planning to take a year course let’s say business, but then I thought should I do a course that is focus on Chinese? Any advice? Your Chinese is so good! Is your course Chinese or like a different course/major and being able to absorb the Chinese language is automatic already? 😅 I was wondering whether I can take a business course then at the same time learn chinese?
I hope I make sense, just really need the advice!
Very comprehensive description of Tsinghua U and it's environs. I hope you have completed your studies. Best wishes to you in your future endeavors from Guyana.
Thank you for sharing! I've been quite curious about what studying in China, and this helped quite a bit! What's your major...? Also, how hard is it to get in?
Hey Tiffany! So sorry I just saw this comment! I was studying an intensive language course at Tsinghua and if you are a foreigner it is SO EASY to get in. The Chinese government hand out scholarships like candy to foreigners so take advantage of it, try get yourself a scholarship and study in China for a year! I did my bachelors in Australia so my time at Tsinghua was purely focused on language learning. If you try get into Tsinghua for a university degree (like a bachelors, masters, pHd etc...) it is SIGNIFICANTLY harder. Tsinghua is the top university in China and is ultra super competitive to get into. So for me, a language course was the perfect way to get to experience a top tier Chinese university with low pressure and high fun times!
Hi, for language courses do I have to know Chinese prior to applying to tsinghua ? and should I apply thro my home school or directly through the Chinese university’s
@@BlondieinChina I'm actually looking to take the same route for next year. Did you just take a break from an unrelated major you were pursuing? I'd be basically taking a break from my physics major for a year, so I was wondering if you did that same, or if your major was related to the language courses you took at Tsinghua. I'm also curious why you chose to do it? Did you just want to have a unique experience that year?
I wonder what did you get in SAT to get in tinghua?
Love your videos!!!
My 5 year old saw you and your classmates using chopsticks for lunch and she asked to use a pair of chopsticks for dinner!!! 👍🏻
I went to boarding school in Beijing last year at a school that was 99.999999% Chinese students. Not the best experience due to some discrimination by some people, but I still love China. For foreigners, Pinnacle Plaza and Shine Hills are two good places to get imported foods or find international stores/restaurants. Blue frog at Shine Hills serves the best burgers on the planet. Better than any burger in the world I swear.

I have a question do u get put with other international students or u just happen to have them in ur class. Bc im a gr 11 student in Canada rn and my mom really wants me to either go to Peking uni or tsinghua and i dont know much Chinese and not familiar with china and im really scared
Yep! so when you study chinese at a chinese university as a foreigner, you will be surrounded with international students. You will live in the foreign student dorms, have classes with them, its actually quite difficult to make some chinese friends! So don't be scared about going to China, its probably the most international place you can go on exchange to. You will meet people from all around the world, and have an amazing, social, international experience. But of course, to improve your chinese, try make some chinese friends too! Join some sports clubs or something, and it will make your trip to china so worthwhile. You will love China, trust me! Go for it :)

Im not going there as an exchange student tho thats why im scared. Im born in china but im raised in Canada and now my mom wants me to go back to china and actually stay as like a normal student. Hi. I would like to apply to Tsinghua for my Master's and I've visited their website that stated no necessity to learn Mandarin if I take a course in English. Of course, I would have to learn the language to communicate and I'm willing to do so, but is it necessary to have a certain level of proficiency even if I take a course in English? Also, I would love to connect with a native speaker in order to help grasp the tones. Thank you!

Can I ask you about the air pollution, does it make you uncomfortable? The place looks amazing.
Hey Katerina! The first time I went to China was 5 years ago, and the pollution was often really bad. It bothered me a lot, yes. But in the last few years, Beijing has made some big changes. A lot of the big factories close by have been closed down and as a result, in winter last year, the weather was absolutely incredible. Every day was blue sky, and very minimal pollution. So for the last few years, except for the occasional really bad day that you need to stay indoors, I don't have any issue with the air pollution. It's definitely 100% better than it used to be!!
South part of China has better air quality.
