Interesting how cost always comes in replies with the 5H. If your job is protecting personnel, you get the right item. It’s silly to discuss $300 difference on a $3-8K weapon system. I just bought an atlas. But one thing I miss about the Harris bipod That I was issued is the speed of deployment. We used to tie a piece of paracord from one leg of the Harris to the other so if you pull one leg down the other follows. You need to individually press the buttons to deploy the atlas

Start with this fact: There are three elements to a steady position: Natural Point of Aim, Muscular Relaxation, and Bone/Artificial Support. The bipod is lousy artificial support, since it diminishes recognition of muscular relaxation and thus an understanding for NPA. In addition, the bipod precludes proper position building whereby the stock is brought to the head to set stock in shoulder for a position that aligns the eye to sight from a good stock weld. Instead the bipod forces the head be brought to stock where bipod height determines height of position, which is generally too low. This means consistent sight alignment becomes difficult. Better to learn prone with loop sling support, then use bipod when there are no better options. The presentation here on bipod features should have related more to those features helping or hindering the position ideals of NPA, Muscular Relaxation, and more support than bone alone. I have an Atlas bipod (new version) and it's great, however extending/shortening the feet is a pain in the neck and I wish I'd gone with a Harris for that reason alone.
I have an Atlas bipod and CTK monopod on my 6.5 CM Ruger Precision Rifle. With them, off a shooting mat I can shoot every bit as good as I can off my bench rest gear. With 140 gr. Hornady ELD-M ammo I can consistently get 1/2" at 100 yards using a Bushnell ERS 3.5 - 21 x 50 scope W/ H59 reticle. In PRS competition the H59 reticle is a Godsend B/C I do not have to run my turrets and sometimes forget to re-zero after a course of fire.

Help!!! I've attached a bipod to my knife and when I hunker down and get ready, I haven't been able to hit ANYTHING more than two feet away. Can someone please tell me how to resolve this problem?
I seem to be hearing that Atlas is the best and Harris was okay but not now. Sometimes I think the military adopting a new piece of equipment depends on whose pockets are lined and how much lining was put into those pockets. It happens all the time and I believe I am hearing another instance of pocket lining here. Thanks for the sales spiel?
Actually... No. I agree 100% with your bitch of "pocket lining" and I've actually seen it happen in the bipod world with many copies of the Atlas. Lots on law suits going on. Harris are still okay, but they haven't updated anything in decades. Atlas aren't perfect, and that's why they still offer different options, because perfect for me may be different for you. Even the MagPul bipods are decent. To each his own; but understand you CAN"T buy my opinion. If I like something, I'm not afraid to put my name behind it. Thanks for watching, TR

@@TacticalRifleman One thing I have always done in the field, since I have a limited budget and i'm not using it in a military role, is to mount my QD harris so that the legs fold toward the magwell. Then, when I get into position (either on the firing line at a range or in a hunting blind or tree stand), is detach the bipod with the QD, rotate it so that the legs fold to the front, then reattach it so that I can put a load on it without it closing. It's a really good workaround as long as you've got the 10 seconds required to flip it 180 degrees. Thanks for the great video.

I know Atlas is probably the best option, but is that new Magpul bipod viable option for .308 precision rifle (Tikka T3 Varmint with MDT ESS chassis)? There is significant price difference after all :)
You get what you pay for. Kasey wants to get the price down, but machine work is machine work. It costs money. I have no experience with the new MagPul. Give it a try and let me know what you think. @Tactical Rifleman Currently I have Harris on it, but I don't like the height adjustment on it. It's the one that that locks completely out, but height between is by tension screw. I have Atlas copy on my .22, which has flaws that don't exist in the real one, but otherwise I like it more than Harris. Hmm. maybe I just have to get the real one for this one. You can 1) remove the stud and replace with a rail section, or 2) use a stud-to-rail adapter. Not too expensive, available from LaRue, Badger, LMT, DD, Midway, others. I prefer option 2. Most bipods provide a sling mount provision since you used the stud for the rail section. Some rifle stocks have two forward studs to accommodate.
All of the stud to rail type mounts I've seen are hinky. one you are required to take the barreled action out of the stock. So if your going to remove the action from the stock, why not put a rail on? Another will pin on to the sling stud which the gets squeezed against the stock.....No Joy, stud can pull out, mar the stock, etc. If you have two sling studs we probably have a rail with a hole pattern to fit. And in some cases you can use the sling stud as a fastener on one end of the rail. Go to a rail, you won't be sorry!
B&T Ind. LLC For my purposes (range fun and the occasional hunt), the adapter was sufficient but you are absolutely right, coverting over to a rail is the most sound and reliable option. Especially for a weapon that will see daily hard use. My particular weapon is a Savage .308 (FNPC-something I always forget their model names, it's a short action bull barrel with accutrigger) with McMillan A5, heavy fill stock. Scoped with an SWFA 10x, zero'd at 200yd, it's fast on the target and effectively flat out to 500yd, well beyond anything with legs that I'm going to shoot. Honestly I'm bored with the rifle and should probably to get into a .308 semi-auto.
i'm new to range shooting and bought a used Atlas BT10 V8 bipod and placed it on my Remington .223 and took it to the range .It only took me 3 min. to figure out the legs spun and the rifle would not sit still.. Doesn't B&T have a R&D department and if they do they should fire everyone and employ the services of the US military. I'm sure the military would have figured out that problem faster than I did. The V8 is a rip off !
Sounds like you bought a used FAKE bipod. Atlas bipods gave ZERO issues because they DO have great quality control and R&D. The Chinese have been selling cheap airsoft quality copies of Atlas bipods for decades. You got took. Sorry buddy. Thanks for watching, TR
@@TacticalRifleman sorry pal you are wrong. The BC10 V8 are notorious for this leg turning problem and you would know that if you did some research. I have sent pics of the bipod to B&C and they said they would upgrade it to the BC46 but the cost to me would be 50% more. The problem is now fixed but could have been easily fixed if the bipod was given to the military to review before it went on the market. The faked are very easy to spot by the way.as they don't have the same markings. For the price the bipod should have been almost perfect. The knocks offs from what I gather are about 20% the price as what Atlas bipod cost so easy to spot. I paid almost full retail price.
I stand corrected, and misread your original post, thinking you meant that the whole head rotated, as I personally saw a fake do that. As for testing, Kasey (inventor and owner) is a personal friend of mine who I met as SHOT before he invented the Atlas. I would send me prototypes of the first ATLAS bipods to me while I was serving as a CIF sniper in Iraq. We made many improvements from there to production. I didn't have an issue with the turning legs on my SR-25 in an urban area, because we didn't "Load the Bipod" to the point where they would roll. Fast forward, to longer -range shooting years later and the craze was to load your bipod to the point where it would almost jump forward. When we reached that point, we (the military) SEALs and SF guys let Kasey know and he immediately offered and option for non-turning legs. There were other improvements and will continue to be improvements as Kasey gets feedback from SOF guys overseas. Sorry, you just got the wrong model. I have 6... three rotate. Some are longer. Some have different mounts and feet. All are better than a Harris. Thanks for watching, TR.

Next I have ordered the Atlas cleat feet they call them and I will give that a try. I did contact the company to return my Atlas bipod and move up a model but all in all it cost to much so I may purchase similar spike feet as I did for my Harris. When does the spending end ? ps: you military guys never used the Atlas bipod on a bench or concrete surface ?
Yes the V8 legs rotate, I've shot a ton off one and have to try to get the legs to roll! But so many folks including USASOC asked for non-rotating legs so we incorporated that in the PSR model. (The Atlas PSR bipod was selected for the USASOC Precision Sniper Rifle, PSR package, thus the name). We still sell the V8.

Funny stuff. I met Karl at SHOT show, he came to our booth because a sniper team had beat his team and the winning team was using our monopod! Karl was deployed when we did the Atlas, he's BAD to give away prototypes (I sent him a prototype monopod his team was requesting and once stateside gave it away because he thought he could get another one!) so the one I sent him was pink. He is like a brother to me, and like all good brothers they correct one another when stepping out of line. We have that relationship. There is no way Karl would show or demonstrate something he did not believe in. To be clear, we paid zero for him to do this, we gave zero to have this done, it was a pleasant surprise. We are very proud to have some very elite customers from all the groups in the SOF community. We are also very proud of the local, state and federal law enforcement agencies that are customers. The Atlas did change the market by introducing the patented 45 degree leg position, which others have copied. There is not another bipod on the market that weighs so little (BT10 is 11 ounces!) that does so much with so many features. So the topic being "evolution of the bipod" IMHO, going from the standard of ALL bipods, the perfectly fine, but limited functionality Harris, to the Atlas demonstrates such a evolution. Sure there's other brands but they brought nothing new to the table till they copied our leg positions, this is not evolution, it is a standard, set by those pushing design limits. I've heard the term, "Trail blazers" and then those that follow the trail once blazed.... Karl, I'd like to send you something, just need to know you want it hot pink or florescent pink?

You are correct. 300-400 dollars for a bipod is expensive. Have you actually held one of these though? Compared it to a magpul? Nothing against magpul but there is a reason these are 2, 3, 4 times what a magpul costs.
Actually, since we filmed this video, SOCOM had withdrawn the contract. Pending Big Army maybe jumping on board. I'll have to go back and check to see which rifle actually won the revised contract. As for the bipod, same deal... some units wanted one that panned. Others did not. So, B&T now offers both models. TR

It's about the equipment you want and the quality you want. If you're a combat sniper, you would happily pay that much. If you're joe blow, it isn't needed. It costs money to have nicer stuff. Of course, equipment doesn't make the fighter, but it helps you gain an advantage if your enemy is equally skilled.
Given it's already telescopic, you would think you could panic press either leg's retracting handle and use it as a telescopic baton for CQB and hunting predator ambush. In addition - a multi-arm, spring-loaded dual bayonet for impaling combatants and bears. It's not tactical enough for me!

Fact, the Atlas was chosen from several bipods, to be included in the USASOC Precision Sniper Rifle package PSR). Whats funny is the final signer of that contract, actually came by at SHOT and congratulated us on our ability to make the changes that led to the Atlas PSR model. It was our will and desire to build the best was can for the people that give all for this nation. That type of drive or commitment is not for sale but is why we did those changes and had samples sent in under 8 weeks. Maybe that is why Karl likes our gear. It does as advertised and is built by Americans that care.

TheGaming NorseMan you can set you irons for windage in the rear on most and on ar 15s the f sight can be raised or lowered with the tip of a round.
if you don't understand how to zero any form of sighting tool, just do 10 minutes of research and get on with your life.

You get what you pay for. Kasey wants to get the price down, but machine work is machine work. It costs money. I have no experience with the new MagPul. Give it a try and let me know what you think. @Tactical Rifleman Currently I have Harris on it, but I don't like the height adjustment on it. It's the one that that locks completely out, but height between is by tension screw. I have Atlas copy on my .22, which has flaws that don't exist in the real one, but otherwise I like it more than Harris. Hmm. maybe I just have to get the real one for this one. Here in Finland PSR is 425€ and the regular QD is 355€ :D

Is there a way to mount these bipods to a stud instead of rails?
You can 1) remove the stud and replace with a rail section, or 2) use a stud-to-rail adapter. Not too expensive, available from LaRue, Badger, LMT, DD, Midway, others. I prefer option 2. Most bipods provide a sling mount provision since you used the stud for the rail section. Some rifle stocks have two forward studs to accommodate.
All of the stud to rail type mounts I've seen are hinky. one you are required to take the barreled action out of the stock. So if your going to remove the action from the stock, why not put a rail on? Another will pin on to the sling stud which the gets squeezed against the stock.....No Joy, stud can pull out, mar the stock, etc. If you have two sling studs we probably have a rail with a hole pattern to fit. And in some cases you can use the sling stud as a fastener on one end of the rail. Go to a rail, you won't be sorry!
B&T Ind. LLC For my purposes (range fun and the occasional hunt), the adapter was sufficient but you are absolutely right, coverting over to a rail is the most sound and reliable option. Especially for a weapon that will see daily hard use. My particular weapon is a Savage .308 (FNPC-something I always forget their model names, it's a short action bull barrel with accutrigger) with McMillan A5, heavy fill stock. Scoped with an SWFA 10x, zero'd at 200yd, it's fast on the target and effectively flat out to 500yd, well beyond anything with legs that I'm going to shoot. Honestly I'm bored with the rifle and should probably to get into a .308 semi-auto.

i'm new to range shooting and bought a used Atlas BT10 V8 bipod and placed it on my Remington .223 and took it to the range .It only took me 3 min. to figure out the legs spun and the rifle would not sit still..
Doesn't B&T have a R&D department and if they do they should fire everyone and employ the services of the US military. I'm sure the military would have figured out that problem faster than I did.

Sounds like you bought a used FAKE bipod. Atlas bipods gave ZERO issues because they DO have great quality control and R&D. The Chinese have been selling cheap airsoft quality copies of Atlas bipods for decades. You got took. Sorry buddy.

@@TacticalRifleman sorry pal you are wrong. The BC10 V8 are notorious for this leg turning problem and you would know that if you did some research.
I have sent pics of the bipod to B&C and they said they would upgrade it to the BC46 but the cost to me would be 50% more.
The problem is now fixed but could have been easily fixed if the bipod was given to the military to review before it went on the market.
The faked are very easy to spot by the way.as they don't have the same markings.
For the price the bipod should have been almost perfect. The knocks offs from what I gather are about 20% the price as what Atlas bipod cost so easy to spot. I paid almost full retail price.
I stand corrected, and misread your original post, thinking you meant that the whole head rotated, as I personally saw a fake do that.
As for testing, Kasey (inventor and owner) is a personal friend of mine who I met as SHOT before he invented the Atlas. I would send me prototypes of the first ATLAS bipods to me while I was serving as a CIF sniper in Iraq. We made many improvements from there to production. I didn't have an issue with the turning legs on my SR-25 in an urban area, because we didn't "Load the Bipod" to the point where they would roll. Fast forward, to longer -range shooting years later and the craze was to load your bipod to the point where it would almost jump forward. When we reached that point, we (the military) SEALs and SF guys let Kasey know and he immediately offered and option for non-turning legs. There were other improvements and will continue to be improvements as Kasey gets feedback from SOF guys overseas.
Sorry, you just got the wrong model. I have 6... three rotate. Some are longer. Some have different mounts and feet. All are better than a Harris.

Next I have ordered the Atlas cleat feet they call them and I will give that a try. I did contact the company to return my Atlas bipod and move up a model but all in all it cost to much so I may purchase similar spike feet as I did for my Harris.

Yes the V8 legs rotate, I've shot a ton off one and have to try to get the legs to roll! But so many folks including USASOC asked for non-rotating legs so we incorporated that in the PSR model. (The Atlas PSR bipod was selected for the USASOC Precision Sniper Rifle, PSR package, thus the name). We still sell the V8.

Funny stuff. I met Karl at SHOT show, he came to our booth because a sniper team had beat his team and the winning team was using our monopod! Karl was deployed when we did the Atlas, he's BAD to give away prototypes (I sent him a prototype monopod his team was requesting and once stateside gave it away because he thought he could get another one!) so the one I sent him was pink. He is like a brother to me, and like all good brothers they correct one another when stepping out of line. We have that relationship. There is no way Karl would show or demonstrate something he did not believe in. To be clear, we paid zero for him to do this, we gave zero to have this done, it was a pleasant surprise. We are very proud to have some very elite customers from all the groups in the SOF community. We are also very proud of the local, state and federal law enforcement agencies that are customers. The Atlas did change the market by introducing the patented 45 degree leg position, which others have copied. There is not another bipod on the market that weighs so little (BT10 is 11 ounces!) that does so much with so many features. So the topic being "evolution of the bipod" IMHO, going from the standard of ALL bipods, the perfectly fine, but limited functionality Harris, to the Atlas demonstrates such a evolution. Sure there's other brands but they brought nothing new to the table till they copied our leg positions, this is not evolution, it is a standard, set by those pushing design limits. You are correct. 300-400 dollars for a bipod is expensive. Have you actually held one of these though? Compared it to a magpul? Nothing against magpul but there is a reason these are 2, 3, 4 times what a magpul costs.

Actually, since we filmed this video, SOCOM had withdrawn the contract. Pending Big Army maybe jumping on board. I'll have to go back and check to see which rifle actually won the revised contract. As for the bipod, same deal... some units wanted one that panned. Others did not. So, B&T now offers both models. TR

cool stuff but at $200+ for a simple tool is outrageous unless this is made of titanium and gold plated and covered in bullet proof paint i dont see $200+ for a bi-pod regardless the " what it does " im not broke but im not stupid enough to buy something that high priced to break the wallet either rather buy 1k rounds or a new barrel or hell a scope from Vortex over spending $200+ on a bipod lol just because i says " made in america " dont mean its worth more
It's about the equipment you want and the quality you want. If you're a combat sniper, you would happily pay that much. If you're joe blow, it isn't needed. It costs money to have nicer stuff. Of course, equipment doesn't make the fighter, but it helps you gain an advantage if your enemy is equally skilled.
If they were reasonably priced there wouldn't be the motivation for knockoffs. Blame Karma.
Given it's already telescopic, you would think you could panic press either leg's retracting handle and use it as a telescopic baton for CQB and hunting predator ambush. In addition - a multi-arm, spring-loaded dual bayonet for impaling combatants and bears. It's not tactical enough for me!

Fact, the Atlas was chosen from several bipods, to be included in the USASOC Precision Sniper Rifle package PSR). Whats funny is the final signer of that contract, actually came by at SHOT and congratulated us on our ability to make the changes that led to the Atlas PSR model. It was our will and desire to build the best was can for the people that give all for this nation. That type of drive or commitment is not for sale but is why we did those changes and had samples sent in under 8 weeks. Maybe that is why Karl likes our gear. It does as advertised and is built by Americans that care.
