Goodbye Stranger is about as perfect of a song as you could get. I'd argue that it is possibly the best 'album' ever, along with maybe Bat Out Of Hell, remember this wasn't even a single off of this album. I'm ignoring Beatles because that's a whole different thing.
Supertramp had lots of big hits, but this is a bunch of SERIOUS musicians. Like Steely Dan, they had the gift of making things accessible while still maintaining a high level of musical and lyrical sophistication. Some of the best musicians of the era. Definitely get back to these guys soon. Lots of great stuff to discover here.
Absolutely agree with you, love that you mentioned Steely Dan. I think Supertramp and Steely Dan are very similair in the music they make, perfect use of intruments and amazing vocals. Two of my favourites of all time for sure.
So glad you picked a deeper cut instead of any of their MONSTER HITS! They do a lot of sax & harmonica but their vocals are what make them stand altho their instrumentals, instrumentation and OUTSTANDING! Great band, I hope you do more!
Even when some of their songs are sad.. or ment to be sad , supertramp always give some positive edge on it .. just the voice of Hodgson combined with the smooth beat and often easy but genius lyrics … Superband
When you paused the song the very first time, right about then/a little after, if one listens very closely, you can hear a bus diesel engine shifting upward in the background. I believe it was an actual recording of said bus used in the song background.
Also stuff like School or Rudy. Brilliant stuff they get to work their way through. The band sounded great live too. It's kind of funny here that they fault the happier part for sounding happier. Rather than the genius composer try to make the optimistic part sound darker and cooler for them, better that the reactors expand their ideas around how a set of feelings is best conveyed--to everyone, not just them. Part of what makes those cooler parts cool is their juxtaposition to that lighter beat.
Brings back memories of when I was a little kid and my dad was getting stoned and listening to them.I would like to be able to go back in time and relive it.
GREAT BAND! you fellas picked a gem here, please do more from Supertramp. I am a gen x'r from 71 and this album KILLED it! in 79 it's all you heard on the radio and it was great.
I was lucky enough to see them on the Breakfast In America and Famous Last Words tours and I have to put Supertramp up there in the Top 5 best concert experiences of my lfe, along with Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd and Rush, (also my top 5 GOAT bands, with The Beatles at #1)). Supertramp was just amazzzzing in concert!! They were also humorous and were having such a fun time up their jamming with each other. The most underrated band of the 70's and 80s. Their entire catalog is Rabbit Hole worthy!
Absolutely, Doc. Supertramp when they toured the US in ’83 was tremendous, also one of my Top 5 all-time shows. So sad when Roger Hodgson left the band; I felt they had so much more to offer. So talented, they then left a lot on the table.
You guys should react to more Supertramp… "Take the Long Way Home", "Dreamer", "Goodbye Stranger", "Give a Little Bit", "The Logical Song", "Bloody Well Right", "Breakfast in America", "Fool's Overture", "Sister Moonshine", "School", "From Now On", "Even in the Quietest Moments", "Hide In Your Shell" 🎸🤘
Crime of the Century is amazing. The beginning of the album hits so damn hard. You guys gotta play “School” straight in to “Bloody Well Right” you won’t be disappointed.
This is why i love you guys...always open and exploring. I watch to see the cultures in our American family interact. Its everything that is right and good. This album was a STAPLE of my freshman year in college, heard in the fraternity and when visiting sororities...rare that is was popular with both. It truly is a landmark work. Fun!
A lot of masterpieces in their discography that you should check... Crime in the Century, From Now On, Fool's Overture, Take the Long Way Home, Hide in Your Shell, Bloody Well Right, and so on, and so on...
This is completely a "deep cut", no one else has touched it! Kudos to you guys! Goodbye Stranger is definitely about the best on this album, though didn't chart as high as The Logical Song. Thanks for the reaction!
Wow guys you have to dive into this band. I grew up listening to them over and over again in middle & high school. Not a bad song in the bunch they are superb artists. This one’s a banger. 🇨🇦
This band is worthy of a few reactions. They're often forgotten about but they were brilliant. Such a unique sound and fantastic composition skills. All of the songs people are going to throw at you, they'll all be good!
Child of vision was the first song I ever heard from supertramp and I was like I been missing out. That's when I started to get in the mix when it cone to progressive rock bands. Supertramp is my favorite
My uncle just passed we were close and he loved supertramp. So I literally in the last week or so started delving deep into their catalog of music. I have to say they're absolutely fantastic. I'd love to see you do more of them. I'd start with school/ you're bloody well right you have to do both songs they pair together
This is a great album. When i first heard it I was holding the album cover and realized that photo is a view from an airplane flying by the statue of liberty with NY in the background.
Supertramp has been a part of my life since I was a little kid (as well as Rush, Styx, Heart, etc) and they are just a part of me. I love that you guys are hearing and appreciating them.
This was one of my dad's favorite albums - we played it a lot growing up as a kid in the late 80s early 90s, I consider it quintessential to life - everyone needs to know this. Logical song, long way home, bloody well right, all classics
Excellent choice!!! This is my favorite cut on this album. Their other albums are all excellent as well, although not as commercially successful. Gems on every single album.
This album should be OWNED and placed in your discography collection. You will be playing this album 50 years from now. Guaranteed. Oh, and also their debut album "Crime of the Century".
My favorite song from this album, my man is hot on those keys. Underrated band. Crime of the century and breakfast in America are both amazing albums too, my other favorite is School from the crime album, another excellent piano performance
The song's not necessarily about Americans, just about a type of person in general. Supertramp is a deep well, with incredible songs - and if you like saxophone, they use it a lot! The "Crime of the Century" and "Breakfast in America", and "Crisis, What Crisis?" albums are all excellent. Try "Give a Little Bit", "Dreamer", "Lady", "Even in the Quietest Moments", or "Take the Long Way Home". And that cover is definitely New York - the waitress is the Statue of Liberty!
Absolutely not… I hate this music, no melody. Looks like some of the Pink Floyd’s strange song without tail nor head. I do recommand you « waiting so long » if you are looking for nice psychedelic Supertramp track.
This has always been one of my favorite songs of all time. Mainly, because of the piano and the sax at the end. For me, that whole riff could have gone on for 10 more minutes - it never gets old! But, because I always focused on the piano, I really never spent time trying to undestand the deeper meanings of the lyrics but you guys nailed it on the first listen! I feel enlightened and it's like the song is new for me again. Thanks for that!!!
I'm so glad you guys are digging into Supertramp one of my favorite bands growing up and I hope to see more. Anything off the albums even in the quietest moments Breakfast in America or crime of the century you can't go wrong thanks guys
I'm surprised how many young youtube reactors have no clue who Supertramp was. They were huge, but I guess their unique sound makes them hard to classify, and thus they don't come up much as a recommendation that sounds like some other band you've heard. I see everyone else in the comments recommending "Goodbye Stranger". I'll just add my vote to that. You've gotta hit that song.
I was scrolling past and I was like wait, this is actually a damn good song...!! woah... surprised to hear it's the first one on the channel! What a good opener!
You guys are making my childhood flash before my eyes. My older sister had this album and it was constantly being played in our house. Goodbye Stranger is a must listen for a review, with its chill vibe, interesting lyrics, and a great guitar solo at the end. Gone Hollywood is a great deep album cut that has a progressive/power pop feel. Take The Long Way Home would be good one as well, with its mid-tempo, bluesy sound.
I love Supertramp!! This a unique band, with a uniquely distinctive sound. Please check their classics - Logical Song, Take the Long Way Home, Goodbye Stranger - immense commercial successes for a reason
Discovered this band later in my life. I knew about them earlier but let the pop aspect cloud my perception of them. Great band. This album is incredible.
Absolutely love this band and their live album from Paris is a must listen! My favorite track by this band comes off Crime of the Century and is called School. Gives you that vibe of being in JH or HS and has an insane piano solo! Plus more of Rick Davies voice! A later song off this album Breakfast in America the Logical song has a great message in it too!
Glad you guys liked that cos I love Supertramp and I love you guys! This is my favourite track off the album as I’m a pianist and I’m a big fan of Rick Davies (who plays that solo and is the deeper voice of the singing duo). I’m also from England which kind of gives me an affinity with the lyrics of this tune. If you’d like this guys I’d ask your to check out Gone Hollywood which is the first track off this album - it’s a powerful, emotional slightly funny song. Enjoy!
Goodbye Stranger has some nasty sax action once the song builds up the tension. I highly recommend you do this one next, especially since you guys wanted a bit more of the saxophone at the end of this one!
Yet another fantastic British band that flies under the radar. Not in this house it doesn’t though, been listening to Roger Hodgson and his band mates for years.👍 A true artist and songwriter.
Supertramp is a FANTASTIC band. They've been one of my favorites for a long time. If you like Opeth (my favorite band), Dream theater, Rush, and Yes, then you'll love Supertramp. Their more accessible good songs would be The logical song, goodbye stranger, and Take the long way home. But, if you're looking for more of a deep cut, my personal favorites are Bloody Well Right, Asylum, Fool's Overture, and Another Man's Woman (Probably their best song imo). Every song on Breakfast in America and Crime of the Century is a banger, pick any of them and you'll thank yourself later.
Finally. I've been hoping you guys would do Supertramp someday. Alot of hits by them but my personal favorites are the Logical Song and the song Breakfast in America.
This entire album is fantastic. Goodbye Stranger is my favorite song off of this album, but whatever song you choose, you can't go wrong.
Goodbye Stranger is about as perfect of a song as you could get. I'd argue that it is possibly the best 'album' ever, along with maybe Bat Out Of Hell, remember this wasn't even a single off of this album. I'm ignoring Beatles because that's a whole different thing.
Absolutely!
@@rhinehold4268 Ironically, I saw Supertramp on this tour and Meatloaf was the opener.
Agreed. There are at least 4 monster hits on this album and this was not even one of them.
Yes, Goodbye Stranger has Ben my favorite as well! Since 1979 when I bought the album 😉. Awesome album!
Supertramp: The Band no one has heard of but everyone loves several of their songs.
The sax at the end always puts a lump in my throat.
Truly heartfelt
Bought needs to be longer like another 20mins 😂

When this came out it rocked our high school for years!!! I’m 61, still one of my favorites!!!
So glad you picked a deeper cut instead of any of their MONSTER HITS! They do a lot of sax & harmonica but their vocals are what make them stand altho their instrumentals, instrumentation and OUTSTANDING! Great band, I hope you do more!
So many great Supertramp songs - Fools Overture, Crime of the Century, School, Logical Song, Dreamer,...So glad you guys enjoyed them.
My favorite song on the album. Takes me back to a very specific time.
Even when some of their songs are sad.. or ment to be sad , supertramp always give some positive edge on it .. just the voice of Hodgson combined with the smooth beat and often easy but genius lyrics …
Superband
Supertramp is so underrated. Great songs and musicians
For me is one of the best bands ever!
Amazing albums
Fantastic group. Supertramp really have it. They recorded very well too! Incredible fidelity.
You guys definitely need to do more Supertramp. This is one of the bands I absolutely love that falls outside of my metal norm.
Same bro 🤘 I love heavy metal as much as I love supertramp
Couldn't agree more!
Amen. Metalhead here too and I LOVE Supertramp!
Gone Hollywood is my favorite off this album. Played it thousands of times.
The cover art is a view from an airplane window. The waitress is the Statue of Liberty.
When you paused the song the very first time, right about then/a little after, if one listens very closely, you can hear a bus diesel engine shifting upward in the background. I believe it was an actual recording of said bus used in the song background.
The album cover is their tongue in cheek artistic rendering of looking out the window of an airplane at the Statue of Liberty and New York City.
Damn! I was today years old when I got the Statue of Liberty reference. 😂 thanks for that!
I always liked Supertramp. They kind of fly under the radar. They wrote some all time classics.
I'm a fan of Supertramp. Love their theatrics
Supertramp has some amazing tracks. The Logical Song, Take the Longway Home, and Goodbye Stranger are two of my favorite songs.
Also stuff like School or Rudy. Brilliant stuff they get to work their way through. The band sounded great live too.

That’s 3 songs.
How ‘bout some really good lesser popular ones like The crime of the century or From now on, or school
@@TheCornishCockney "One, two, three, five!"
That's three songs. Lol. Which ones are the top 2? Mine would be The Logical Song and Goddbye Stranger.
For SUPERTRAMP you guys could do TAKE THE LONG WAY HOME... the SAX/HARMONICA solo is just breathtaking... best harmonica sound I've ever heard.
Brings back memories of when I was a little kid and my dad was getting stoned and listening to them.I would like to be able to go back in time and relive it.

the best, I've been to many of their concerts in the day. Love Supertramp!!!!!
Man, great list...Of your top 5 I have seen Pink Floyd Twice and Roger Waters - amazing shows.

"Take the Long Way Home", "Dreamer", "Goodbye Stranger", "Give a Little Bit", "The Logical Song", "Bloody Well Right", "Breakfast in America", "Fool's Overture", "Sister Moonshine", "School", "From Now On", "Even in the Quietest Moments", "Hide In Your Shell"

From Now On may be my favorite song by them.

Crime of the Century is amazing. The beginning of the album hits so damn hard. You guys gotta play “School” straight in to “Bloody Well Right” you won’t be disappointed.
Out of all of Supertramps amazing songs. You did this one....
This is my favorite song on the album! I’m so glad y’all chose this one.
I've always felt that the sure sign of a great artist or group is when you dive into the non hits and the songs are still brillant.....Peace & Love

This is completely a "deep cut", no one else has touched it! Kudos to you guys! Goodbye Stranger is definitely about the best on this album, though didn't chart as high as The Logical Song. Thanks for the reaction!
Lots of reactors have touched it. It’s one of my favourites but I wouldn’t have suggested it as a first reaction.
I think Child of Vision is actually the best song on Breakfast in America
this is my dad's favorite song by them and I see why
For Supertramp, I definitely recommend Crime of the Century, Hide in your Shell, and School
The best Supertramp album.
