My absolute favorite Supertramp song. I can sit and listen to this on repeat for an hour or more. Between Roger's soaring vocals and Rick's murderous piano solo, and their signature call- and- response, to me it's the consummation of their partnership.
And don't forget John Helliwell's saxophone coming in at the end.
@@j.woodbury412 Excellent point!
You can hardly say it any better than that.
@@sourisvoleur4854 built on the foundation of dougie's base line
My vote for the most underrated band of this generation. It's criminal how many people have no idea who Supertramp is. I don't know anyone that doesn't like this group.
Can you believe that are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? What kind of bullshit is that?
As old as I am, it took a teenager in 2023 to make me ponder whether "Rock" and "Roll" have been two different things all this time. I'm loving your angle Silas, a lot of us are reliving the old days through you. I'd love to see Alivia listen to a selection of these too, whilst your favourites are still fresh in your mind, and when you get back to Supertramp, their album "Crime of the Century" is a banger.
I'm so glad that a 21st century youth widely enjoys a song that I grew up with in my teens over 40 years ago.
Nothing like a 3+ minute piano solo and bringing the sax in at the end!
Of all the great Supertramp songs, this is my absolute favorite.
My top 3 song a by them for sure !
The album « Crime of the Century » should be the next album you are going to listen to !!
Love your reaction to my favorite Supertramp song! Recommend listening to the first two songs on Crime of the Century together, School and Bloody Well Right.
Agree!
Yep
Why only the two first song?
"Dreamer" and "Crime of the Century" are gems too! And of course my favourite of the album "Rudy"!!!!
@@patrickwouters6568 Not sure if you noticed, but reaction videos are usually just once song. Crime of the Century is my favorite Supertramp album, but it's just my opinion that those are the best two songs, and that they should be listened to together.
Quite right!
Absolute Greatness from the Great Supertramp dude thanks for the reaction 💫❤️☝️
This was one of my driving songs in the 80's. Roof down in the MGB GT, Pioneer stereo blasting this out as I drove around town.
This one gets me every time
I know exactly what you mean about that piano solo. I also took piano for about 9 years when I was young and it was really the springboard for all the other stuff I've learned since then. I would describe that solo as sparse but really funky and super syncopated. Just really tasty. I love playing stuff like that.
The next time you listen to it, you might check this out, it really is fun and it refines your listening ability: during the piano solo, rather than focusing on the piano, focus primarily on the bass line instead and secondarily the drums, then you will still feel the piano in the background with all its syncopation, and now you get this incredible sense of what helps create all that motion and rhythm and energy in it even though it's a laid-back jam.
If the piano grabs your attention, enjoy it for a second and then just move your attention back to the bass and hear the drums underneath and the piano definitely in the background. That is a fantastic bass line for this solo and I love it. And then the drums aren't doing anything special except holding down the beat perfectly to create this framework. It all works together like a jigsaw puzzle, and then the synth texture in the background provides this long dreamy backdrop to round it all out and give it atmosphere.
I love that herkyy jerky piano
Love this dude's reaction. Wish my pot was that good. 🌱🌱🌱
Silas, Supertramp's best album is Crime of the Century. Give that a listen starting with track 1. And turn up the volume!
As much as Supertramp instantly became my favorite band when I was 16 they had an album titled crisis what crisis , And there were at least 4 songs on that album that I did not care for as a teenager , But as an adult there are some of my favorite songs and I think I hear them now with a more mature mind !
The piano solo was in a jazzy syncopated rhythm, almost in an old Jerry Lee Lewis/Rockabilly style, but much more refined. That’s probably what you were getting at, trying to describe it.
Great stuff!
One of the greatest things about this band was that everything they produced on the album they could replicate accurately on stage!. You should look into the Average White Band!
Silas - 'Supertramp' - it's all terrific music, but I have to say my favourite track of theirs is called 'Bloody Well Right'. Really hoping that you will review that track some time in the future.
Same.
One of my favorite Supertramp songs. My first listen to this album was in my dorm room with my big headphones on. "Crime of the Century" and "Paris (live album)" are great follow ups. We were blessed in the 70s to have lots of keyboardists like ELP, Elton John, Billy Joel, Boston, Styx, Dr. John, Stevie Wonder off the top of my head.
You need to see this one live. There are 3 keyboards and a grand piano on the stage. Roger is playing the Rhythm part on the keyboard and Rick is on the grand piano. They are so amazing. John plays that sax at the end. It's fab. look up Live in 1979.Paris
You really want to watch "RUDY"... LIVE, with the incredible Train Ride through the English Countryside. they take you on.
I enjoyed watching you take in this whole album. Add in "Fools Overture" from the Paris album. You will enjoy it!
I’m a musician. I’m upright bass, guitar and mandolin. When I was a kid when this album came out it made me fall in love with piano from this song. Great tune.
Это шедевр.Лучшее у группы, для меня.
Such a SUPER jam from the boys! Thx Silas I had forgot how great this track with Piano is. Not played on Radio enough anymore. #crimesofthecentury BTW - the greatest piano solo I've ever heard on a song is THE THE - Uncertain Smile (Long version). The piano in that song is off the charts!
So much respect for you Silas for listening to classic tracks such as this and keeping these tracks alive. There is something to be said about today's youth.
Hey man. This is one of my favourite Supertramp songs. So happy you reacted to it. I’m so glad you like Supertramp, because I do too. In fact, I love Supertramp.
Supertramp the happy music totally can't go wrong with Supertramp man you just totally can't go wrong
Certainly not a song in my wheelhouse…. But, it grew on me. Plus, nice to hear a song that highlights any non-guitar instrument.
You need to check out "Fool's Overture" from Supertramp's "Even in the Quietest Moment." Thanks for posting this classic album track.
An anthology album ends with a perfect song, full of sounds.
YOUR LISTENING ONE OF THE BEST BANDS 80S , 90S SUPERTRAMP
I first heard this song in 1979,and I still like it
Yes, some nice key board in that. You should check out "The way it is" by Bruce Hornsby and The Range. Awesome Piano by Bruce and an Awesome Song.
I forgot about this one. It did get some radioplay back then. Goodbye Stranger, logical song and take the long way home were HUGE radio hits
Love Silas, with his forbearing travel into unknown waters, trying to do the same, with my eldest son...he's has a better grasp of music than I thought.
This album and song was in heavy rotation when I was cramming during finals week in college.
Great reaction to a great song. May I suggest albums to consider... Foreigner - Foreigner (their 1st album) or Styx - Grand Illusion. Both are mostly Rock with some bad ass guitar. 😎
Bestial Supertramp! Muy buena reacción coincido
A great album
I've seen "The Tramp" Live 4 times. There is always 5 Keyboard locations. Rick plays Grand piano/keys, Roger plays Guitar/keys, John plays Sax/Keys-String keys, Dougie on Bass Guitar and Bob is spectacular on Drums.
This is SO SO good!
Somthin is cookn w/ SUPERTRAMP. We're probably gona see them come together again. THEY KNOW IT TOO 😏🧐🤓
Supertramp is the best band of all time. I've been listening to the songs for a long time. I started as a teenager when I was 14 years old and I still enjoy listening to them just as much today.
This work of genius was released in 79! I was 18 years old!
I still have my original album! Its a work of Art!😍
Beautiful Memories!
BTW I Love your reaction!😍
My favorite all-time jamming
So much being said in this song. One of my all-time favorites. And, oh, the thousands of times I must have listened to this song and this album!!
Thanks for this Silas. This one and Hide In Your Shell are my 2 favorites. God Bless.
This is a top 10 album for me. No doubt. It’s a journey.
Best song from Supertramp by far amazing !
Your face melted
I knew this song would be a winner with you. I have been fortunate enough to have seen Supertramp “The Tramp” Live 3 times. Their live shows are a spectacle and brilliant. Each member is a musical genius. Rick Davies is my favorite keyboards player and John Helliwell is favorite Sax player. He is a blast to watch live. The bass and drummer are awesome and Roger’s guitars are superb. The only live show I put above Supertramp is Pink Floyd, who I have seen 4 times.
Supertramp is hard to beat! This song reminds me a little of bluesy and jazzy BTO's 'Blue Collar', a song you would enjoy, I have no doubt. It also has some mind-blowing guitar work by Randy Bachman.
This Album is a 8 out of 10. Crime of the Century is a 10 out of 10 album. A true masterpiece of music and not all commercially done for radio play. Crime of the Century is their best album by far.
This song can put you in a trance. I love Roger Hodgson's music. (He wrote this and sings this one ). He also performed this live with his own band just as good or better in my opinion. Check him out on UA-cam just look up Roger Hodgson. He's wonderful.
If you like piano, check out Supertramp's "Crime of the Century".
Rick Davies wrote and played the 6 minutes long piano solo.
cool and great!!!
Foreigner /Debut Album 🤟
Heaven Tonight/Cheap Trick Album (Need your love-single studio version)
Van Halen /Debut Album
ELO/New World Record Album
The Sweet/Sweet FA Album
Keep digging, you'll find so much great musicians and groups who solely used all instrumental to make the rhythm. Most music today is computer generated for certain sounds. Great to see the younger generation opening up their minds to go back to when music was exceptional.
Hi - thanks for your reactions, have been enjoying very much. I actually prefer their Even in the Quietest Moments album. You may know the song give a little bit which was a hit for them, then for Goo Goo Dolls in 2004.
Gotta be honest Silas, there's a lot of reaction posers out there, but you actually seem legit. Stay true and reap the rewards. Well done.
Playing on the off beat is called syncopation.
If you like this, especially the piano solo, you should try the album version of a song called Uncertain Smile by the band The The. It features the best piano solo I've ever heard,. Three and a half minutes of perfection. Chack it out.
Very good reaction here.
Seeing you react to this one makes me want to see your reaction to "I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You" by The Alan Parsons Project. Think you'd like that one a lot. Similar feel, also with electric piano, but with a rippin' guitar solo...
Great reaction! Crime of the century next, please😊
Don't know how much Heart you've heard but you should def hit them at some point. They've been called the female Zep (even tho 4 of the 6 members are guys.)
I think it's inevitable that you will listen to Crime at some point. Released 1974. Smack in the middle of what your followers will tend to agree is a time of the most progressive, diverse and amazing music ever produced. A 5 or 6 year period where early Boston, Styx and Supertramp, Rush all came out. Pink Floyd, Yes and Genesis. released their most iconic albums. Zeppelin. Bowie. Aerosmith, The Who, Alan Parsons Project, and many other legends seemed to release their best stuff. It was magical. It's hard to argue that Crime of the Century is not one of the classic albums of the time. Worth a listen.
Your next "Solo"Song should be this mind blower......4 black brothers with a white drummer created this ICONIC Masterpiece from the 60’s Psychedelic Era Trust me…. You do not want your life to end without hearing this song.
“TIME HAS COME TODAY“- The Chambers Brothers - Album Long version, then Live. PLEASE and Thank You. 1,595,600+ views
so far.
Ok brother you are now familiar with Supertramp so now you are ready for their masterpiece album Crime of the Century
Silas - I’m curious if you asked your Dad if he knew this song? If not, did you play it for him? Have you listened to this much since you reacted to it?
Silas, please try Supertramp's _Crime of the Century_ . This album, _Breakfast In America_ does have a couple of big hits, but I think COTC doesn't have a weak song on it.
No clue how Roger can play keyboard like that for the hole length of the song, they probably used tape recording tricks.
That's Rick Davies on the keys
Here's Roger Hodgson playing 'Child of Vision' in 2010. ua-cam.com/video/Mm6cPXSjdRs/v-deo.html
Bro, that was freaking fire... thanks😎
Also I found Take the Long Way Home from same show. It is also good... ua-cam.com/video/YLP0y-X4uYs/v-deo.html
Silas, you should check out Child of Vision live... it'll give you greater appreciation of the song.
You should react to Guns and Roses Appetite for Destruction album guaranteed you won’t be in your seat very long
check out ELO
