- Fashionably late (or perhaps right on time?), here is my year-end list video for 2023. I discuss my 20 favorite albums (plus 15 honorable mentions), as well as my favorite movies, TV shows, and video games over the last year. Just wanna say I’ve been watching all the way since I think the day Roadrunner by Brockhampton came out and I saw your review for it pop up and it’s just been such a joy to see you become a guy who I can just watch sit and talk about your favorite things in art for however long it takes for you to share with us. You’ve also introduced me to and changed my mind on a lot of music from Taylor Swift to Playboi Carti! So yea, keep on doing what it is you love and I’m sure I’ll be tuning in man 🫡

great to go through your picks and find a lot of new stuff as always. Somehow I also had Wednesday on my to-be-listened pile until the very end of the year and I regret not having listened to it sooner because it probably would have cracked my top ten.

Love the KARPEH inclusion, I really think it was underrated on so many lists this year. Just an excellent work that cuts a lot deeper than I my initial expectations for the project on the surface.
Yeah I saw very little recognition for it on end of year lists, it deserves way more love. Clay shows off so much talent
This year for music was insane. Lots of banger albums coming out in every direction. Geese with 3D (& 4D) Country, Genesis Owusu with Struggler, A 200 SONG MAC DEMARCO ALBUM, Mitski's new album, the Feeble Little Horses album, Aphex Twin's EP, the MGMT singles from last year (and speaking of singles, a bunch of musicians coming together on the Barbie soundtrack is something that I feel needs to happen more often again. Just a bunch of creators having fun on one gigantic passion project), and hell, even The Beatles came back to drop a track. Great fucking year.
Also a great year for movies too! 2023, and especially 2022, have really seen a huge surplus of great films by filmmakers of all strides. There's probably 30 films per year that I could call great, and that's not even counting all the films that were merely good.

For All the Dogs is my favorite Drake album since More Life, your edited album is a great edit of it because you skip the tracks that I also don't like. The highlights on FATD are very strong imo, and that's what makes it my favorite of his in so long.

in terms of TV shows my wife and I watched recently Pluto on Netflix and I highly recommend it, we both left crying after only the first episode and games I´m still oppressed with Tears of the Kingdom. I´m also kinda shocked that you haven't mentioned Caroline Polacheks album that's my AOTY.

Great list ! If you loved The Greater Wings, check our Byrne's previous album "Not Even Happiness", it's such a calm and beautiful record !
Also check out Julien Baker's first two albums,they're devastating but so incredible.

I have a lot of respect for your Drake take and while Drake isn’t an artist I really listen too often, I do feel that people tore into FATD simply because they’re sick of Drake rather than the album being horrendous. We gotta get you over 100k soon 📈

I think too often in music criticism, at any level of "credibility" or thought we put way too much consideration into the idea that you can't cut songs. If you love an album with some songs that arent that great then you still love it regardless. It's all subjective anyways so why do we force ourselves to stick to arbitrary criteria
Also yes some artists add too much music cause they can make more money off it but other than that i really just see no issue with releasing more music. Why say no to more art, if you don't wanna listen to it just don't. More art doesn't hurt the world even if its mediocre
that's an idea i only started to consider this year funny enough. i made my own version of and then you pray for me with some of the trap songs cut out (not all of them!) and i really love that version of the album.
i think i'm just so used to the old model where you literally couldn't cut songs without lifting the needle or pressing skip. my gut feeling is that artists don't put as much care or thought into The Album As An Art Form, but i don't think that's completely true. the streaming era has given rise to a completely different way of interacting with albums, for better and worse.
