However, you seem like you might need more convincing, so..Jimmy Johnson, Dallas Cowboys: 1989-1993 contracts stated that he had final say on football decisions even though Jones had GM title.1 of the main reasons for the split was Jerry wanting more power in personnel after 92 & Jimmy refusing to relinquish any. 5 years w/Jimmy: 2 SB, 2 Div. @@sikecar534 There is a drop in production. Then there is falling off a cliff. Aikman fell off a cliff. You expect Hall of Fame caliber QB's to elevate your team. He couldn't. We had a SB caliber defense in 96 wasted. Another really good defense in 97 and we win 6 games. Romo who never won a super bowl but also never played with stacked teams like Aikman elevated his teams. Always produced and positively affected our win/loss record in comparison to his eras avg QB.
@@supersexysega Tony Romo? That's my quarterback! T.O. 😂 Comparing Aikman and Romo's like comparing apples and oranges. Different teams and weaker competiton for Romo. Plus Aikman had mediocre coaches after Jimmy Johnson. Switzer included. And that's on Jerry Jones.....
I did, too. But talent-wise, there were very few teams close to them, outside of SF and GB. I dare say there's been very few who could match ten overall talent, before or after. There were alot of bad teams in the era, the parity effect from the rule changes hadn't started to take effect, yet. You had alot of owners who were just hoping to make a profit.
NFC East was very weak. It came down to them and Philly. Add to the fact that there were three divisions, it was easier for them to get into the postseason. Then, there was a little luck. 49ers beat them in the regular season. Outside of the fluke start, 49ers did expose the Cowboys defensively. Well those 49ers lost to the Packers who lost to Dallas early that season. Then comes the SB, and Neil have Brown two picks.
@@bigdinlaca The division structure and schedule didn't matter as much as you think, they were still a top 5 team and at worst were #3 or #4 seed. They walloped Philly and GB. It would've been a toss-up with SF. Aikman actually got injured in that game, earlier in the season. The Niners had their troubles against Dallas and having to play them Dallas for NFL title game would not have been a given. Considering how flat they were against GB, I wouldn't been confident about them winning in Dallas.
9:35 Switzer used to be hard on Aikmen when he was in college, by the time they were in the Cowboys, Aikmen thought Switzer "gone soft in his old age".
Food for thought. From 1991-1993, Jimmy Johnson's Cowboys were 36-12 in the regular season, 7-1 in the playoffs, and they won 2 Super Bowls. From 1994-1996, Barry Switzer's Cowboys were 34-14 in the regular season, 5-2 in the playoffs, and they won 1 Super Bowl. The only differences between the two resumes is that Switzer sat out most of his starters in losses in the last game of the 1994 and 1996 regular season. In terms of the playoffs, Switzer's 1994 Cowboys lost to a 49er team that was better than the 49er teams that Johnson's Cowboys defeated in 1992 and 1993. In addition, the 1995 Cowboy's roster consisted of 26 players that never played a down for Jimmy Johnson. This included Hall of Famers Deion Sanders and Larry Allen. If one relies on the documented record, Barry Switzer did an outstanding job coaching the Dallas Cowboys.
Sike Car super bowl 30 was played in 1996 but that year is considered the 95 season and the championship is played in 96. GB super bowl was the 96 season but the championship was played in 97
Michael Jordan vs. Vernon Maxwell would also make for some compelling viewing. Maxwell's Rockets went 5-1 against Jordan's first 3-peat Bulls. Maxwell was also athletic enough to guard Jordan AND put him at a rare competitive mental illness disadvantage. An image-conscious sociopath can't use his usual tricks against a legit psychopath who pulled a gun on someone for taking "his" parking spot at a Luby's Cafeteria.
Jimmy was an awesome coach no doubt and his iron fisted disciplined approach payed off with 2 super bowl wins. However, Jimmy's hard nosed style couldn't last forever. Barry was much better than people give him credit for. Switzer had to fight several battles shortly after being named head coach of the Dallas Cowboys that included the following; 1. The Texas media hated Switzer from the time he crossed over the Texas line. Dale Hansen, Randy Galloway didn't give him a fair shake. Dale even admitted he was too tough on Barry during his tenure as coach. It almost was as bad as the media toward Trump today. 2. Aikman was still sore with Switzer from his college days and never warmed up to Barry ( nor wanted to). 3. Barry's coaching style was always different from Johnson's. Barry was a "players coach" who excelled at recruiting players in college and encouraging players to make the most of their abilities. He always had his players back and Switzers players in college always loved and respected him. This style of coaching served him well in college as his 3 college championships prove. when he got to the NFL he stuck with that approach. Not to say he couldn't or wouldn't discipline but yes he wasn't the strict disciplinarian that Jimmy was. Aikman detested this approach but in all honesty It's probably what the cowboy's needed after 3 hard years of grinding. That kind of hard nose coaching has an expiration date. Also there's no guarantees Jimmy would have one another super bowl. 4. Jerry became more intrusive with the team after Jimmy's departure which was out of Switzer's power to control. Switzer also was limited by Jerry on coaches and assistants Switzer could bring on. 4. Switzer hadn't coached college football in several years when he received the call and had never coached in the NFL. Despite all these challenges, Switzer managed to Win a superbowl, go to the playoffs most of the time and racked up a winning percentage that exceeds any other Dallas Cowboys coach. Plus he's one of only a few coaches to have won a championship at both the college and pro level. Not bad for a guy who only coached the Cowboys for 4 years and whose supposedly a bad fit for Dallas. Kind of interesting that Switzer is the last coach to bring Dallas a Superbowl and that was almost 25 years ago.
As evidenced by Aikman's appreciation of Switzer advocating for him to UCLA head coach Terry Donahue, there was no real beef between the two in college. It's important to note that Aikman had significant beefs with all of his NFL head coaches, so this was a case of Troy being Troy. To put Switzer's NFL accomplishments in their proper perspective, no head coach in the Super Bowl Era won more playoff games in his first 3 seasons than Barry Switzer, he was the most successful NFL head coach in that 3 year (e.g., 1994-1996) period, and he came close to duplicating what Jimmy Johnson did in Dallas from 1991-1993. The 1995 Cowboy's Super Bowl winning roster was comprised of 27 players that never played a down for Johnson and included HOF's Deion Sanders and Larry Allen. Switzer's playoff win total is also more than the combined playoff win total of the next 5 Cowboy head coaches. Switzer's 5-2 playoff record was followed by Chan Gailey 0-2, Dave Campo 0-0, Bill Parcells 0-2, Wade Phillips 1-2, and Jason Garrett 2-3. If one relies on documented fact as opposed to perception, Barry was a great college coach and a good NFL coach.

Yes, it is. So much so that Troy, after all these years, was upset with Fox when they decided to hire Skip. You can find plenty of articles on the web about it. To quote “To say I’m disappointed in the hiring of Skip Bayless would be an enormous understatement". Skip is a terrible human being.

Y'all can clown on Barry all you want but he was an overall good coach. He was the best college coach in the 70s and was still an elite college coach in the 80s. Give him some credit, he won more Super Bowls than other Hall of Fame head coaches. Also, give Jerry Jones credit as well, if I recall correctly he was the general manager and was responsible for getting some of the Franchise best players and future Hall of Famers. Jimmy Johnson was one hell of a coach but don't act like Jerry didn't contribute.
How 'bout them Cowboys! At least this story has a happy ending; Jerry Jones stayed on as Owner/GM and the Cowboys have sucked ever since (aside from a brief bout of mediocrity in the mid 2000s). Nothing better than that.
Jerry probably did with Jimmy what he did with TO. Took a pen out during lunch and drew a line down the table and wrote the cowboys and smith on one side and jimmy on the other. For someone who never shutsup he sure needs the visuals to fire someone

Colin Cowherd FS1 I don’t know who’s better Troy and Emmit or Troy and Joe Buck. Troy Aikman is by far my favorite tv analysts since Frank Al and Dan back when MNF was great.
One thing that is overlooked is that the '95 team had over 20 players on the roster that were not on the '93 roster. So, the '95 team was not all "Jimmy's team" as is popular to say. Disclaimer: This is coming from a long-time, 50 years plus Redskins fan.
Aikman was drafted in 89. Some say the best draft of all time. Prime time, Barry Sanders, Derrick Thomas, were all picked behind only Aikman and of course, Tony Mandarich (The Incredible Bust). It’s hard to believe now that cowboy fans were angry that they didn’t take Mandarich over Aikman....Until you see Mandarich at MSU, and you will realize he should have been the most sure, NFL ready, player in that draft. We will never see a collegeOffensive tackle on the sports illustrated cover again. But that’s how good Mandarich was at Michigan State And do not comment steroids, cheater Ect. Steroids are part of pro football, especially in the trenches. He took a popular oral drug used buy bodybuilders in a bulking phase to gain Mass And Strength. Definitely more of a steroid for GymRats trying to show off on the bench, than move a 310 pound frame in front of big 10 Defensive Ends. It obviously helped but the work had to be put in, and that’s why supplement companies have been trying to tweak its structure for years, introducing it with a different name and slightly different ingredient, and sold as prohormone. Superdrol being one that comes to mind and was sold at local supplement stores for years until Obama banned it.
I don't know if they do cover WWE, but if they do end up doing that, this should definitely become an episode. Probably could be like half an hour long though, but should be a good one.
Barry Switzer still won a super bowl, that is more than you can say for many other coaches with Uber talented teams. It is not his fault that Jerry decided to let Johnson go, he owed the Cowboys nothing, he didn’t have to put himself into the line of fire the way he did. Because let’s be honest, Jerry could have hired any person in America to be the head coach of the Cowboys and people would still be saying “but it’s not Jimmy.” And yeah that team was all world. The 1990 Bills were all world, they didn’t win. The 2007 Patriots, the 1998 Vikings. Barry Switzer did what all those other genius head coaches could not. So I don’t think it’s fair to lay this on him like it’s his fault for coming to Dallas and winning a super bowl. Oh the horror! I’d love to have a coach as good as Switzer nowadays. I understand why Aikman may not have liked is methods, but again, he got the job done where other hall of fame coaches with all-time great rosters failed. That deserves some credit. And he should not be blamed for Jerry’s decisions.
Jamel Holloway came and talked to the kids at our local youth football camp when I was in high school and got arrested with weed in his car like two days later. Then he made a speech at our season ending awards banquet that year and got arrested for public intox pretty much as soon as he walked offstage lol
In the future Skip Bayless will also talk about how postponing a game where a guy literally had to be revived after his heart stopped and he collapsed live on national television would affect the standings and the NFL schedule.
Rumors of Troy Aikman's racism were proven untrue countless times. Ask any Cowboys player who was on the team then, and they have nothing but positive comments about Troy. Hell, even at the time, his teammates stood by him all the way. Charles Haley straight up said that if anyone disrespected Troy, he'd take it personally and defend Troy to the end. Today, Troy Aikman's biggest critics claim he benefited from a talented roster. Ask his teammates about Troy and they'll tell you a different story: that he was the glue who held the roster together. That Cowboys team was always a crack in the ice from completely falling apart at the seams, because every talented player had an ego the size of the sun, but the second Troy stepped in, everyone silenced themselves and listened to him. Troy wasn't just the product of a talented roster; if not for him, the Cowboys aren't a dynasty.
Skip Bayless had already been known because of his two other Cowboys books before the 1995 book and also he was a beat writer for the Cowboys and had a Fax Report/Newsletter with Mickey Spagnola for over14 years. Also, REAL long time Cowboys fans like myself already know that Skip is NOT a Cowboys fan and is all about him and is name.

Just finished watching !! Definitely a good watch ! I'm a Pats fan but man alot of respect for Aikman he definitely missed Johnson and felt he had to fill in the shoes and get on guys for coming to practice drunk.. Man very interesting!
Aikman was a medicore to trash QB from 96-2000. He can scapegoat Switzer all he wants but Aikman got exposed regardless.
@@supersexysega you're as good as a cast around you. Cowboys lost half of a team into salary-cap.
Comparing Aikman and Romo's like comparing apples and oranges.
Different teams and weaker competiton for Romo.
Plus Aikman had mediocre coaches after Jimmy Johnson. Switzer included. And that's on Jerry Jones.....
With all that drama going on, i still wonder how that ‘95 team won the Super Bowl.
I've never figured out how they won that Super Bowl either; they kinda sucked in the game as well.

Can you imagine all of this drama unfolding in today’s social media era?
It wouldn't be as cool.. just text exchanging on a website. Here we've got television interviews, sideline sound fx, and Skiup
9:35 Switzer used to be hard on Aikmen when he was in college, by the time they were in the Cowboys, Aikmen thought Switzer "gone soft in his old age".

Aikman's final playoff victory took place during the '96 season and it wasn't even in January of 97, it was in December of 96.
Jimmy, Barry, and Jerry all went to Arkansas and Switzer (OC) and Johnson (DL) both coached together at Oklahoma from 1970-72. How about that.
Amen.
Dallas beats Pittsburgh in Super Bowl 30 in 1996
Dallas loses to an expansion in the Division Playoff in 1997
'96. SB was Green Bay - Patriots.
Sike Car super bowl 30 was played in 1996 but that year is considered the 95 season and the championship is played in 96. GB super bowl was the 96 season but the championship was played in 97
Dallas' key players were rapidly aging by 1997, Jerry Jones and Switzer couldn't do anything about that.
I want a Michael Jordan and bad boy pistons beef, I wont stop commenting until I get it.
Bro I'm with you. I'm gonna comment on all these videos with you. We need to bring this into fruition
Yes! Thank you guys, now let's go SB nation. The next beef video you post better be Jordan and Isiah/pistons beef.
Michael Jordan vs Jerry Krause
Isaiah vs. Magic too! Surprisingly Magic had some nasty things to say about him in his book

Damn, Skip played them like a genius.
It’s weird to think Aikman could have played baseball. In an alternate timeline, Joe Buck and Aikman would have been calling baseball on Fox.
We need a Jordan Vs bad boy Pistons beef video next. Please. This would be epic and you know it
@ 4:31 Barry Switzer sounds more like a wrestling manager doing a promo than a football coach 😂
Jimmy was an awesome coach no doubt and his iron fisted disciplined approach payed off with 2 super bowl wins. However, Jimmy's hard nosed style couldn't last forever. Barry was much better than people give him credit for. Switzer had to fight several battles shortly after being named head coach of the Dallas Cowboys that included the following;
This style of coaching
served him well in college as his 3 college championships prove. when he got to the NFL he stuck with that approach.
Excellent comment and analysis...
Amen.
Yawn
If one relies on documented fact as opposed to perception, Barry was a great college coach and a good NFL coach.
...Barry Switzer has the highest winning percentage of all time as ALL Cowboy head coaches go.
Poor Troy got stuck with crap coaches after Johnson.
Can you make a video about how terrible Skip is as a human being and sports whatever he thinks he is? I’ve never heard a guy be more wrong about everything then when he’s talking sports.

Proof that Skip has always been a terrible human.
Sean Rector lol sheesh it isn't that serious at all
Yes, it is. So much so that Troy, after all these years, was upset with Fox when they decided to hire Skip. You can find plenty of articles on the web about it. To quote “To say I’m disappointed in the hiring of Skip Bayless would be an enormous understatement". Skip is a terrible human being.

I'm an OU fan. And I actually remember this.
U think he is in love with Micheal Irvin?
There are so many 30 for 30’s crossing over here!!
Hopefully the patriots will end that way too
Troy Aikman's relationship with Switzer could be a badass movie

Dallas Cowboys was greatest team Dynasty of the early 90s including back-to-back Super Bowl championship 1992 and 1993 forever

If that’s the case the cowboys would’ve won in 1994. Switzer still was trash.
He was drafted in 89 not 99

One thing that is overlooked is that the '95 team had over 20 players on the roster that were not on the '93 roster.
So, the '95 team was not all "Jimmy's team" as is popular to say.
Disclaimer: This is coming from a long-time, 50 years plus Redskins fan.
The main pieces were still there
@@duypham76Still a lot of players that Johnson didn’t coach
Aikman was drafted in 89. Some say the best draft of all time. Prime time, Barry Sanders, Derrick Thomas, were all picked behind only Aikman and of course, Tony Mandarich (The Incredible Bust).
It’s hard to believe now that cowboy fans were angry that they didn’t take Mandarich over Aikman....Until you see Mandarich at MSU, and you will realize he should have been the most sure, NFL ready, player in that draft. We will never see a collegeOffensive tackle on the sports illustrated cover again. But that’s how good Mandarich was at Michigan State
And do not comment steroids, cheater Ect.

Amen.
Basketball is my favorite sport. I like the way they dribble up and down the court.
I keep it so fresh on the microphone. I like no interruption when the game is on
Skip bayless becoming a household name is a tragedy but I hear skip and his husband are doing great.
Aikman would still be playing if he chose the MLB
Jamel Holloway came and talked to the kids at our local youth football camp when I was in high school and got arrested with weed in his car like two days later. Then he made a speech at our season ending awards banquet that year and got arrested for public intox pretty much as soon as he walked offstage lol
Troy Aikman coached the Dallas Cowboys from 94-97.
He did?
