  • In this video, I'll be reacting to a song by another new band to the channel; Jinjer! This was a band that was mentioned in the comment section of many videos including reactions to BAND-MAID, Nemophila, and Nightwish, so I knew it was a band I needed to listen to, and I was not disappointed! If you haven't heard Jinjer before, you need to listen to this song!

"Who is this woman?" That would be the goddess Tatiana. One of the most amazing things about this band is that they are all self taught. Well except for the drummer Vlad, he is a classically trained pianist ! So welcome to the wonderful world of jinjer. Just strap in Wally cause "Pisces" is great but you haven't seen anything yet. I would suggest "Perennial" live next, as Russ said below then "Teacher Teacher" and "Home Back". With what is happening right now in their home country of Ukraine, "Home Back" is especially relevant as it is their commentary on the war in Ukraine a number of years ago.

This is THE classic 'bait and switch' metal video. Not to diminish Jinjer's brilliance, but the chilled look, with the musicians sitting down, the warm lighting, the minimal drum kit and Tatiana dressed a bit more 'pop' than her usual look, just adds to the affect. Subtle clues are there in her tattoos and ear gauges, and the fact that the guitarist is playing an ESP - the modern metalists guitar of choice. They are great, so please watch some more - a real force of nature.

8:08 - The drummer, Vlad, was the reason they decided to do a remake of this song and shoot this video. Originally, it was recorded by their previous drummer who didn't have, shall we say, the feel or the groove the song needed and that's why it was considered one of the album's least favourite by everyone in the band, despite being a very personal song for Tatiana (she's a Pisces and it describes the inner struggles of her dual personality, hence the two contrasting parts in the song). It was kind of put to the back of the list until Vlad joined the band and they started rehearsing it for the live shows: he brought that feel and groove, as well as his own interpretation of the song, and it sounded so much better that they decided to make this video only to showcase him. But then the "internet" stepped in, with all the reactions to the song, and quickly the spotlight shifted from Vlad to Tatiana, catapulting the band's career.
To this day, Eugene and Tatiana stil roll their eyes in interviews everytime someone asks them how they feel about the success and recognition Pisces brought to the band, because although they've come to terms with the success of the song, they still feel everyone missed the point of this video. 🙂
8:48 - You just described Arch Enemy.

Listening to reactions on Pisces is a hobby of mine and I've seen quite a few fake ones, where they act surprised but aren't really. Yours is genuine and it was a lot of fun to watch. Liked and added to favorites. BTW, it they are in your neighborhood, don't miss the chance ti see them live. It's an experience.

Pisces is the intro song given to reactors for the shock factor of Tatiana’s voice, but as you noticed the whole band is amazing. This video is from a few years ago when Vlad joined the band as their drummer. It shows his light jazzy style. Vlad is a classically trained pianist and has been a major influence in moving them to a more progressive style. To a point where most of the latest album is through composed. I consider the “Wallflowers” album to be a classical modern work in 11 movements that just happens to be a metal album with 11 songs.

Jinjer has become my favorite band, they are no genre just simply their own. They are insanely tight live aka Perennial or Who is Gonna Be the One. Great mv try Home Back, Wallflowers or Retrospection. Or start with early Jinjer with Outlander, Cloud Factory or No Hoard of Value. Note also the lyrics Tatiana writes are deep and poignant. I am sure someone will go into their history but Jinjer was formed from the area of Ukraine which has been torn by civil war and Russian incursion. They have lost their homes and have hit the grind and toured relentlessly for going on a decade. You can find vids of them playing to tiny tiny crowds and they have paid the dues to get the success they justly deserve getting now.

I am 61 so have been listening to rock/metal for half a century. Although neither are not my current favorite female rock/metal singer (Lzzy Hale still no. 1), Floor Jansen and Tatiana Shmayluk are the best because of their unmatched vocal talent and versatility along with stage presence. They are also both part of bands with world class musicians. FYI, Jinjer starts its North American tour in less than a month. Tickets will likely go very fast.
As for Tatiana, if you want to see her versatility and charisma on full display, watch her one take vocal performance of Judgement & Punishment.

RE: the guitar intro. Part of what Roman is doing is picking high on the neck, focusing on the fundamental notes, but also picking off a note on the open high-E which just rings and rings while he slides positions with the fretted fingers. Also in the pre-chorus, he uses a "Vibe" pedal, which blends the clean guitar signal with a wet-version that has been passed through a phase ladder (similar to a phase-shifter, with perhaps a non-full bandpass filter) ... played the way Roman it doing it, it has the sound of a vibrophone. (a vibe pedal is the shortened name of the old UniVibe, as used by Hendrix, Trower and SRV ... each had their own sound with it) .
Anyway, each of the three instrumentalists are exceptional.
On the most recent album, the majority of the music is composed by the drummer, and the melodic AND rhythmic structures are beautifully complicated.
... but before you run, you should crawl.
Others are recommending a few older songs like this, or Perennial, or Teacher Teacher, or Who will Be The One
... then you can walk : I speak Astronomy
... and then move forward into songs from their newest album (Wallflowers) : Vortex, Mediator, et al
Have fun... this is a rabbit hole that truly challenges the musical senses. You have just enough knowledge to make your head spin, when you hear them. ;)
btw, sorry for nerding out on the guts of the Vibe pedal... I seem to be channeling my old/former Elect Engineer-self.
I could nerd out on the vocal anatomy part (I'm a general dentist who used to teach 'treatment for the medically compromised', including patients who've have head/neck trauma.
Harsh-vocal physiology is a real kick, and an incredibly deep rabbit hole in it's own right.

Nobody expects it. That's what makes for great reactions.
Her name is Tatiana Smailyuk. And that is all her. She uses the false vocal folds for the harsh vocal and not the vocal chords.
    They are from eastern Ukraine.
This live session was done to showcase Vlad on drums as he had joined the band not long before this.
You mentioned Eugene on bass, and that's Roman on guitar.

    Welcome to Jinjer!
One of the goal of shooting this live session video was to introduce their new drummer Vlad. All members are very talented and their songs are often well balanced between the instruments, no big solos like often found in some other metal genres. Of course Tatiana is always kinda stealing the show :)
They have plenty of great tracks to discover, often sounding very different from Pisces, even borrowing from other genres. It is a rabbit hole!

Always a favourite for those of us who enjoy reactions, for obvious reasons! Anastasia has such a superb and flexible voice and I'd recommend trying some of their live performances. Love how she goes from that melodic, soft voice to that vocal fry while clearly not finding it a strain (her neck and vocal chords stay as normal), especially the quick changes in the last verse. If it's amazing bass you're after (and another two amazing Japanese bands) try the uniqueness of Ningen Isu (pronounced Nin-Gen Iss as the 'u' is silent) performing their epic 'Heartless Scat' ( ua-cam.com/video/CbI79e5iZKs/v-deo.html ) or the also unique Wagakki Band, with their mix of Metal and traditional Japanese instruments, here performing live the beautifully segued duo of songs 'Homura/ Akatsuki No Ito' ( ua-cam.com/video/ponTbDDMYjw/v-deo.html ) . Enjoying your reactions to the wealth of talent in Japan...though I'm obviously looking forward to your reactions to the 100+ Band-Maid songs you still have to get through! "I promise I won't pause again..."
Everyone: Yup, you're going to regret that... ;)
Don't worry too much, seasoned Pisces reaction crawlers are used to people losing their mind on first play.

Saw them a few weeks ago in Tempe, AZ. Great show. I recommend one of their newer videos with great production: Vortex. But all their stuff is great.

For recent work, "Wallflower" official video. Or "Vortex".
For a bit older work, "Pit of Consciousness", live in Kiev.
"Sit, Stay, Roll Over" is older than that, but I like the live in Melbourne version better than the official video.
And just to blow your mind, the live version of "Who is Gonna Be the One?"

the reason why she can switch easily is because the scream is a "gutteral growl" which passes through her open vocal chords with no stress, relaxed, to them. allowing her to go back to singing without damaging her vocal chords. I think.

Another one you need in your life my friend would be Unleash The Archers, most time folk start with "Awakening" (Full band play through), but "Abyss", "Cleanse The Bloodlines", "Tonight We Ride"... all are WONDERFUL. Also a Napalm Records band, so no fear of being blocked. Seems Napalm likes it when you promote their Artist. :D With the others you mentioned, this should round out the new entries to your musical library. The Lead singer Brittney Slayes does just that. Saw them live and they sound the same, (minus the Brittney Choir).

hehe I always have wondered if they built this song specifically for reactors. 90% pause right at the rim taps .
All the suggestions are great but I love Teacher Teacher.
This video was made to show off Vlad, their new drummer and I like it better than the album version. That final Belt Tati does is mixed with growl in the album but I love the clean belt thrown in alone.
If you like bass as you said you might like Land of the Free by Home Free. There is a fairly basic bass riff in the first half, that few catch, that is jaw dropping (you'll see why when you watch). I will admit that it might be harder to breakdown/appreciate the instrument playing however. You will have to listen for the bass riff and for the drum beat. If you try and watch for either you will miss them

Check out pit of consciousness live at Kiev and perennial live at Wacken. But you really can't go wrong with any of their music.

I’m sure you’ll get all the info you need in the other comments so I just wanna say you should check out Unleash the Archers. Most people start with ‘Awakening full band playthrough,’ and I’m sure you’d enjoy seeing their performance, tho personally, it’s not my favorite of theirs, (and their official videos are all very fun). But I’m weird, sometimes it takes 5 listens before I realize I love something, 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️ I actually thought I didn’t like them for like, 6 months. Then a reactor listened to The Wind That Shapes the Land (no video) and something clicked, idk. 😅🤷‍♀️ Anyway enjoy the Jinjer Rabbit Hole, you *won’t* be disappointed! Subbed!
