Nowadays, most, if not all, of rap music seems hastily produced, lacking thought or purpose Rock music experienced a comparable destiny following the triumphant revival of garage-rock, new wave, progressive, and indie rock during the early 2000s. This resurgence seemed to vanish abruptly as if someone had flicked a light switch off. From 2012 to 2023, it has remained stagnant, almost lifeless. Huge XXX fan, I’m 33, I think all the artist that were going to innovate the genre… unfortunately died. Xxx,Juice, Peep. I think there’s a gap right now
Hip Hop started dying when everyone got easy access to audiences. Before UA-cam and Social Media (basically before the internet), there were studios and platforms that were only for talented people. A random person couldn’t just put out a song. They had to have some talent before any platform gave them exposure. Artists, writers, and producers used to collaborate with other professionals. Back then the only platform was radio and music videos on TV. Fast forward to mid 2000s, Soulja Boy came out with his song on social media and the rest is history. Artist and other professionals started splitting up, doing their own things. You don’t need radio and Labels when you can get exposure on social media for free. And that ‘for free’ and ‘for everyone’ that social media provided killed creativity and collaboration. All the talents started spreading thin going their own way. You don’t even need a good song anymore, all you Gota do is have a good social media presence.
You're on point with. We're just getting old and it's hard to realize that. Growing up listening to 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, Akon, T-Pain, Eminem, and so many others... it was great and now I think new generation is trash too 😂
Yeah man. I remember being around older people who hated Lil Wayne and T-Pain but they’re legends to a whole generation. I embrace getting older and know this newer stuff just isn’t for me
@embermist3910bro have you ever thought that maybe, just maybe, this new shit is bad. I’m 25. And I warning people about rappers getting lazy with streaming back in 2016.
I was born in 01 I’m 22. And I think it’s a great thing no has took the torch. Mainstream kills hip hop. Drill rap isn’t bad just should’ve never left Chicago. Hip hop is going through a rebirth it will be beautiful in the end.
I will say though that part of the shift is in how we discover and consume music. Radio and TV aren't what they used to be. The "rules" of social media seeped into music to determine what gains and keeps attention. I also think part of the issue is also that a lot of people who are making music right now [and going big] don't actually care about the art of making good music. AT LEAST with the previous generations that had cringe moments, you can tell people at least still cared about artistry.
2017 I downloaded soundcloud and got into the “plugg” music scene and since than it has been artists that had come from it/evolved making the best music to date
hip hop has historically been staunchly anti-establishment, but when that same establishment offered to host the 50th anniversary of hip hop celebration, a whole lot of your favorite rappers gladly showed up... I'll tell you this much... hip hop as a culture is DEAD.
Here in germany, many parts of the establishment actually promoted and supported hip hop because it was seen as anti racist to do so... then german labels started producing gangsta rap and the Establishment panicked😂
That’s fair. I blame the internet because we have more access to it. I grew up in the south and was listening to Gucci, Waka, Jeezy, and other trap rappers. Kids today have drill music

it's not dead it's just that people don't like hip hop in the mainstream. it's becoming like jazz. jazz isn't dead it just has a low key niche audience. it's underground again essentially and that's where it belongs really. that is where it's free.
Am an African so i didn't grow up listening to much American hip pop until recently have listen to more of 90s hip pop it's very nice easy to understand the message the artist are passing and 2000s and the 2010s for me i prefer the 90s and the early 2000 songs than what present American artist are singing now
There’s not any new rappers that could replace a Drake, Kendrick or Cole in the next generation. There are no new future GOAT contenders that are up and coming dropping classic mixtapes because mixtapes really aren’t a thing anymore. Once they hang it up, rap will be dead for a long time until something changes! Hip hop and it’s evolution is pretty much dead because of TikTok and AI. Rap as it was from the 90s until 2020 will never be the same. Reminds me of rock/metal! Had it’s best bands in the 70s until early 2000s and then it died out as the best bands got older, the best music was behind them, culture changed and now rock is pretty dead. Now, rap has ran its course and the best is almost behind us and most future rappers will be copy and paste clones of each other🤷♂️ there is no next up, pass the torch type of rapper in the game to give us something to look forward to and it’s actually sad.
The best hip hop tends to be made by someone you never heard of making music videos with their friends on a shoestring budget in glorious 480p from like 2014.
Rap is embararring now - they could've said something about all this new world order stuff the way country music has been going viral - but they were too owned by corporate to speak out - and now corporate is going to drop them anyway

Yes, im old. And im ok with the kids enjoying their selves. I know it isnt for me and im not tryna make it for me. I say let them do them. But im not gonna compare my favs to their cause the skill gap is just different.
Mainstream rappers are rapping from theroot chakra (anger, violence, fear, survival), the sacral chakra (its all about sex), and the solar plexus (greed, vanity, power hungry, tyranny, bullying, and arrogance). Few rap from the heart chakra or the 3rd eye, and nobody raps from the Crown Chakra
I think it's a little bit of both. Hip hop is worse than it used to be largely due to how corporate it's become with the music industry being even worse of an influence than it was twenty or thirty years ago, but at the same time, I think we're just more aware of bad media than we used to be. There was a LOT of bad hip hop when i was growing up and people really just didn't notice it then. Looking back on it though, yeah we were listening to some trash for a while.
To me personally as a 20 year old, the mainstream died in 2016/17 when the soundcloud wave blew up. were there SOME good hits & artists? yea of course, mainly juice & X but overall i stopped really caring at that point (especially after they passed) but the underground was good until late 2018 and died in 2019. i despise rap from 2019-now so i'm done paying attention, ima become a "boomer" early and listen to hiphop from the early days up until 2015/16 only from here on🤷
Oh and migos were innovators. You also have them touting their lyricism in a song. The problem is.. the market is bigger and safer for others, so now just being a novelty to a base that is not interested in the culture and more in the entertainment factor is who will elevate people they can find entertaining not something they can relate to
Supposedly, hip-hop is always dead or dying. But it's like Goku or Doomsday -- comes back stronger and/or immune to whatever "killed it." This happened when west coast hip-hop (more specifically, gangsta/reality rap) dominated after the east coast, then again when bling rap dominated, then when the south took over, ringtone rap, songs that needed to have a dance, then mumble/codeine rap, then streaming, then tiktok, then etc, etc, etc. There will always be some version of "hip-hop is dead/dying" but it's not. Not really.
But we got people who are consistent like yeat who drops like every 8 Months still ppl who do it for the skill of it and love yaet is a person who will surprise you with every album and he makes sure is different and people could attach to it
Even 2pac said on his album until the end of time that you are more likely to be rich by working a nine to five job than being rapper. And this is Tupac after his death saying this. There is really no money in rap, never has been. Only rapper that really played the game smart was jay z
The only way hip hop or will die is when they stop making the music its like when people say rock is dead And pop music and rnb but people still listen to those genre and even rock i dont think its dead its because maybe people got fed up wit the mainstream music and listing to something thats not Popular afrobeats latina trap maybe dancehall and kpop and country are on the charts but Eventually people will get tierd of those two we will repeat the same loop it keep on i think its people should listen to what ever they want even if the rapper is trash that not the cause of the rap downfall theres talented people that we have not found yet
Old? Nah I liked my elders music. And “old head” is quite the revealing term. They use our lingo to disrespect. I grew up in an era when hip hop had variety and wack was wack even when I was a preteen
I'm still so sad we lost Juice, he had so much potential. Doesn't help that his label doesn't care about his legacy sadly. Don't know if you listen to Ski Mask the Slump God too much but his music is pretty good too.
I dont sweat trash mainstream artists personally. They've been around since i was a kid *cough.. Soulja Boy* and they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Theres a LOT of new school artists around now worth listening to, if you look for em!
The problem with these new rappers is they not even trying to stand out Male and Female they pretty much rap over the same beats and their voices I can barely understand I’m part of Gen Z and I have to admit we have some of the worst rappers OUT 💯💯
Hip hop isn’t dead. It just isn’t a new and fresh genre anymore. The same thing happened to rock in the late 90’s/early 2000’s. Popularity-wise; Rock came up in the 50’s and faded out by 2010. A good 50 year run before the genre was milked dry. Hip Hop came up in the 80’s and it will be 50 in 2030.
I'm old enough to be a middle child to hip hop. 90' to early 2k's was my favorite era. I know I'm old because a majority of today's artists, in my opinion, are mediocre. I'm not going through a full list, but I loved damn there all hip hop. I'm from L.A. but I liisten to KRS, Gang Starr, Pharoah Monch, Pharcyde, Souls, Quik, 40. Now my older cousin had me listening to earlier hip. NWA, UTFO, daddy Kane, Run dmc,. Today's artists appear to be high all day, depressed, im serious. It's a slow dragging kind of flow. or just uninspired. Or maybe it's just the ones who get publicized for the wrong things. Also, it's the most ratchet song ever that gets played on the radio nonstop. I like Baby, tho, all of dreamville, Joyner Lucas. Before I'm done. You mentioned the 2010s as a bad era. It wasn't. Those were bad videos, radio edit songs that got nonstop radio play. I remember seeing the clip and thought that the busta album was fire. I didn't like A... Money either, but those are crossover songs. I know I'll get replies, so I'm going to do my homework on each decade and get my artist and era correct. Hip hop will never die. It will just adapt to its peers' requests
Personally, my favorite rapper is Big L. His wordplay and flow are crazy and no one can replicate it, but that's the problem. It's like when you see a really good drawing, but then when you see a drawing, which is still good, but compared to the previous drawing, it's meh. Idk i guess ill just stick with 90s hipop
I know I'm old...I don't know half of these artists that are out now...my niece be trying to tell me these names..like Lil pump...choppa...city girls...I'm like who lol
Hip Hop today is made by it's fans who has money to get in the studio and market whatever they do instead of talented artists who actually got something to say in a creative way. Another sad thing is how the record labels been taking food from the talented people's mouths in the 90s and 2000s that demotivated them. now that everyone can stream and don't need a label, the ones attracted to the fashion and lifestyle want to live it, and the talented ones are wondering why bother when the charts look the way they do. It could be an age thing but everything else also plays a role.
theres really good artists in the undeground. theres still people who are good its just current famous people can and do outpromote instead of outrapping now, hence why one think hip hop is dead.
I'm an 80's baby. So I've seen it all. I just wanted to mention some new artists to me I like...outside of mainstream. Joyner lucas, dax, tobi & rapsdy.
Honestly yes and no this generation has the worst attention span but hip-hop just really needs that hook it used to have that make people stay with an artist but I feel the major thing that really kills hip-hop is the artist themselves spending years losing fans while they try to make a new sound honest if it’s good leave it alone if it’s going to take you so long its better when they have you there before they forget about you entirely so artist should stop waiting so long to drop a song because they don’t even know that it’s bad I get it’s for experimental purposes but these experiments will kill the rap career entirely if these artist keep changing
I feel it's time for hip hop to die. It's the same age as Rock was and it's only a matter of time. Plus how much longer can we keep the old idea of it having attitude and angst. The reason why we keep it alive isn't from a good place. It comes from an ignorant place. 1, We need to keep a genre alive so we use it to make money and become famous because many of us lack talent and want an easy way to make content that makes us seem deep and intelligent. Basically an easy career. 2, We don't know what other music will make us seem so 'cool' or have 'rebelion' or 'attitude'. Hip hop is easy because it still reminds us of ghetto neighborhoods. We like a third world country that will never leave it behind because we lack real ingenuity and originality. Because we're selfish. That's why it won't die. It's sad. .
I don’t it’s dead . I think it’s just aging with whoever grew up with it . Some people are still fans and some have moved on that’s why it’s like fading away just like early 2000s rock . I wonder what gonna be the most popular genre. Probably a mix of hip hop and something else
Everything suffers when you prioritize clout/content over art. The art dies. People love whatever is current during their teens and 20s, even if it's not good. And they shun whatever came before. It's human nature.

It’s not dying it’s just a new generation and plus all the late 80s and early 90s babies is getting older you just have to come out with a new sound and unique music that can grab everyone attention
And nobody ain't even doing that 💯
@@Jay-jb2vr naw nobody ain’t doing that everyone trying to rap the same and rap about the same shit 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️I be cutting the radio 📻 off everytime I get in the car lol 😆 sad to say can’t really vibe with this new generation of music
@@Jay-jb2vr I mean don’t get me wrong it’s a couple songs I like on radio 📻 but most of time I always cut the radio 📻 off because I get tired listening too the trash 🗑️ people be putting out it’s don’t make sense why the radio can’t play B.G or other artists that sound good they don’t even play that new song meek mill and Ross did last year I think that song is fire 🔥 but they don’t play it
Hip hop needs to explore deeper subject matter than just sex, drugs and money.
these industry plants are killing hip hop we get a female rapper every year and they get pushed heavy just to be trash and forgetten in a couple of months first we had Saweetie, Meg, Glorilla, Ice spice and now Sexy redd. people give those type of "rappers" attention and are not looking for real talent.
Huge XXX fan, I’m 33, I think all the artist that were going to innovate the genre… unfortunately died. Xxx,Juice, Peep. I think there’s a gap right now
Lmao they was part of the problem promoting all that bs that got them killed. Funny how life works

Nah, not them. They were just a bunch of social media/SoundCloud "rappers"
I dig your commentary, surprised this channel isn’t huge, this is quality, keep it up. You got a supporter in me
Thank you i really do appreciate it. I started in February so I’m still learning and trying things. Its been a fun ride
@@sosamanotf642exactly, it's just bad
I was born in 01 I’m 22. And I think it’s a great thing no has took the torch. Mainstream kills hip hop. Drill rap isn’t bad just should’ve never left Chicago. Hip hop is going through a rebirth it will be beautiful in the end.
Hip hop is changing and evolving just like rock pop and country has
Facts 90's baby over here
the Golden Era
We're in a bad state we let too many greedy corporate people control our music instead of vice versa and that's very wrong.
I think people are more so fed up with the negative culture
That’s fair. I blame the internet because we have more access to it. I grew up in the south and was listening to Gucci, Waka, Jeezy, and other trap rappers. Kids today have drill music
@nextlifetv804 Gen Z in the south doesn't listen to drill lol

Absolutely true right on point 🤘🏽💯💯 facts it hard for me 2023 on my playlist
TBH, the underrated scene is one of the last hopes hip-hop has
I'm from Baltimore Maryland at the late 90's. I listened to all decades in 2000's. But the little bit half of 2010's era. Cuz i was probably looking for the old school classic legends like NWA, dj QUIK and tree top piru blood and MC Eiht and the west coast California gangsta rap and northeast coast rap big l, wu tang clan, tim dog , craig mack, biggie smalls, Rip to all 3 of them. kurupt, wil smith, coolio, lost boyz, freaky tah, ole dirty bastard, DMX, shock G, probably all others including mobb deep joseph morgan aka prodigy and Tupac Shakur R.I.P. mostly is the west coast Los Angeles California gangsta rap is incredibly impact of my lifestyle. Cuz of the boyz n tha hood by eazy motherfucking e RIP and NWA for changing the streets game into the next level. Got 6x double triplets platinum for the becoming the bestselling albums all time. Straight outta compton, (1988)eazy duz it,(1989) and also early 90's eifl4zaggin all accomplishment of their lifestyles and variously complimented by growing of biggest empire ever!!!! Sometimes motown r&b and anita Baker mix only of spotify music. Smartphone and tablet too users is mine. Tho. While i was playing a max payne video game of ps2 and smoke a vaping and just walking home from work. Almost like a everyday experience day! Yeah! I love the underground and gangsta rap. Thanks for this information! Man
You spittin 👌🏾🙌🏽 💯
Agreed I think we just old now
Nah yeah you hit all my thoughts on the head. Deffo earned a sub. Good luck with your youtube journey!
it's not dead it's just that people don't like hip hop in the mainstream. it's becoming like jazz. jazz isn't dead it just has a low key niche audience. it's underground again essentially and that's where it belongs really. that is where it's free.
Am an African so i didn't grow up listening to much American hip pop until recently have listen to more of 90s hip pop it's very nice easy to understand the message the artist are passing and 2000s and the 2010s for me i prefer the 90s and the early 2000 songs than what present American artist are singing now
TikTok made ppl minds used to repetition of simplicity
Great video man!
Thank you for watching!
The clout-chasing influence that social media has had on hip hop is definitely a bad influence.
Rap is embararring now - they could've said something about all this new world order stuff the way country music has been going viral - but they were too owned by corporate to speak out - and now corporate is going to drop them anyway
I agree with your point of views so much bar for bar omg
Cause you smart 🫡
Thanks for watching!
My Uncle's was listening to Geto Boys, 2pac, NWA. I grew up in the 90s so a lot of hip-hop that was original.
I got crucified when I asked who are the hip-hop super stars under 30
Off the top of my head the only one i would consider is maybe Doja Cat
@@nextlifetv804not a superstar, noone knows her worldwide. Since the jews saw no money in music they moved on. There goes the production value. So we left with past music... That's all folks
To me personally as a 20 year old, the mainstream died in 2016/17 when the soundcloud wave blew up. were there SOME good hits & artists? yea of course, mainly juice & X but overall i stopped really caring at that point (especially after they passed) but the underground was good until late 2018 and died in 2019. i despise rap from 2019-now so i'm done paying attention, ima become a "boomer" early and listen to hiphop from the early days up until 2015/16 only from here on🤷
2011-2013 was a special time for me growing up. Hurts my soul that my generation of music is now considered “old school” for a lot of younger people 😂
Oh and migos were innovators. You also have them touting their lyricism in a song. The problem is.. the market is bigger and safer for others, so now just being a novelty to a base that is not interested in the culture and more in the entertainment factor is who will elevate people they can find entertaining not something they can relate to
both. but more so I’d say it’s changing, what we saw last year was more like a transitional period for what comes next this year
💯💯💯💯 thank you!!
Coast contra is the only real rappers I know of. I also agree no one does it for the love of rap.
Not really.
Nah this time it's gonna die fr
@@1977WasPeak 😂 We shall see. 😂
Skill level and quality has declined. And it will continue to decline along with society. End of story.
There is no passion in Hip hop no more, actually thinking about it now Hip Hop died in 2021
The only way hip hop or will die is when they stop making the music its like when people say rock is dead And pop music and rnb but people still listen to those genre and even rock i dont think its dead its because maybe people got fed up wit the mainstream music and listing to something thats not Popular afrobeats latina trap maybe dancehall and kpop and country are on the charts but Eventually people will get tierd of those two we will repeat the same loop it keep on i think its people should listen to what ever they want even if the rapper is trash that not the cause of the rap downfall theres talented people that we have not found yet
Oh and That Mexican OT is also pretty good.
I dont sweat trash mainstream artists personally. They've been around since i was a kid *cough.. Soulja Boy* and they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Theres a LOT of new school artists around now worth listening to, if you look for em!
The problem with these new rappers is they not even trying to stand out
Male and Female they pretty much rap over the same beats and their voices I can barely understand
I’m part of Gen Z and I have to admit we have some of the worst rappers OUT 💯💯
I've been surprised by how many younger people are saying they hate the current generation of music. I'm happy to see people want better
@@nextlifetv804
I do want better
The problem with new rappers is their music is so easily forgotten no real memorable songs or albums
Theres money in rap but you need to have a good fanbase
Great video man. I just dropped one and now I'm seeing that I wasn't the only one feeling this way lol. Definitely gotta sub.
No y’all need to talk about this. It’s bad out here

We just old. Older people looked at us crazy too
100%. I was bumping Chief Keef every day like 10 years ago
Them soul samples be different fr
I wish that was popular again
We listen to EZ Mil and EMINEM songs.
Tastes are changing..
theres really good artists in the undeground. theres still people who are good its just current famous people can and do outpromote instead of outrapping now, hence why one think hip hop is dead.
Everything for social media
I'm an 80's baby. So I've seen it all. I just wanted to mention some new artists to me I like...outside of mainstream. Joyner lucas, dax, tobi & rapsdy.
I love Rapsody. I wish she got more recognition
Its de-evolving, degenerating, and degrading. Ratchet rap era coming soon
I support myself, and other underground artist because they make way better music than mainstream back then it was different, but now its trash.
Mainstream hip hop has gotten boring imma be honest I mostly only listen to the underground artists like Lucki and devstacks rn 😂
Ice spice looks like the female gremlin
