There are always recalls on food and cars. Clothes and shoes are mass produced and not made with the amount of quality that they used to have. Mass production is not good because it means workers are exploited, and it brings environmental pollution into play and also contributes to global warming.

Whether that change is in our lifetime or the next remains to be seen but history shows that humanity usally changes together for the most part. They were lit, and now? They're as Patrick said, Iconic. So that was never cringe, we cringe at ourselves, what is cringe, is the two friends in highschool that made out constantly on other people's lockers but swore they were just friends. Silly bands aren't cringe, the kids in ROTC who constantly tried to make other people feel like they knew what they wanted and life and had shit figured out were cringe, cuz they were just as lost as the rest of us.

As someone who studied economics, the choice overload point is spot on. Hip-hop isn’t dead, the medium we consume hip-hop on is just oversaturated. Not to mention the pure toxicity that surrounds online music communities nowadays.. I definitely enjoy music more when I’m not reading through a bunch of negative comments or reviews on social media. Still one thing is for sure, Father Time is undefeated. As Frank Ocean said, we’ll never be those kids again. That may sound sad, but it’s something everyone has to accept at some point or another. The main reason I had more fun with music in the 2010’s is because I was in my adolescence (teenage years) and there were so many first experiences that made that time period so exciting. Not to mention during that time frame is when most people develop their taste for music, so of course music is going to hit different. Still, despite the fact that I’m aging, I still feel like the music industry and culture as a whole are so exhausting anymore. I think keeping a healthy distance from it and returning every so often to see what’s new is a solid approach.

The problem is that community isn't as accessible as the mediums we've become used to (ie. recommended or trending videos/movies/games). For example, I've joined a Playboi Carti community on X/Twitter, but that place only caters to me when I'm thinking about Opium or trap music. UA-cam, in comparison, recommends me whatever I've been enjoying in the past months, consistently following whatever I enjoy and replicating it.
But which one really caters towards loneliness?
Clearly, there's just an influx in content, which makes us even more unique/isolated tastewise than other people, which makes sticking to one mainstream or niche group easier to find people like you. Building and retaining a unique identity through the internet weakens your chances to find an irl group that "gets" you.

I agree with the thesis but I try not to get sucked in to feedback loop of hopelessness. While it’s true we as humans are becoming more and more fragmented, there are just as many initiatives to form community and create new culture in the place of the old world. The first step to solving a problem is realizing there’s a problem to begin with, that’s the place we’re in right now. It’s a painful, frustrating and discouraging place to be in but I implore anyone who sees this not to let your hopelessness consume you. The old world is dying and the new one is struggling to be born.

@@assassin8636 my point is it’s exceedingly easy to fall into cycles of apathy and despair and we owe it to ourselves to not fall into them. Outside of the framework of hip hop music, the phenomenon Pat describes in this video is endemic to every part of our existence at this current moment in time. When everything around us seemingly dropping the ball it’s up to ourselves to continue to try and connect, find common ground, find a cause to rally behind, create art, create another wave, keep the fire burning so to speak.

That's the thing though, there's so many people profiting handsomely off of the current cultural climate to really want to change it: lonely, depressed, isolated, and exhausted consumers are some of the easiest to sell products too. Look at any advertisement from recent decades and the message is clear "buy this product and you'll have access to the sense of belonging or lifestyle or happiness that all of these paid actors or your favorite celeb/influencer obviously have. See! Doesn't that sound great!" As the hyenas cackle all the way to the bank.

@@saintkevinofficial There definitely will be new genres, especially as long as technology advances. We've already seen an explosion in several new genres in the past 20 years and a slew of sub-genres of rap in the past 10...all due to emerging technologies allowing people to express and create in ways unprecedented than ever before. If it wasn't for the advent of music streaming sites like SoundCloud, or software/hardware being so accessible to the point where I could have a makeshift studio in a fucking storm drain, (which wouldn't be a terrible idea for acoustics🤔...) we wouldn't be talking about how *saturated* these sub-genres are! @@KatSpicert what don't you guys understand. Creativity is dead. The urgency to create a new genre is propelled through an active community that's actually interacting with music. Most people are too musically illiterate and ignorant nowadays. Look at how people are sampling records. They're basically just covering hit songs by rapping over them instead of cutting up and splicing different records from different artists. There hasn't been a new genre of music that's hit the mainstream in 20 years. We're not talking about sub-genres. We're talking about actual genres with their own unique styles, basic instrument choices and song structures.

Regardless of if u think its the case, too many people sound like another, nobody has a unique sound anymore so you really cant differentiate any artists. A lot of people are losing their minds that hip hop’s popularity is dying. It happened to rock too, starts in the underground and a few decades later it’s the genre dominating the charts. Then it slowly fades into the back and once in a while a band or 2 make it to the mainstream. Same will happen to hip hop, it’s the circle of life.

ONE OF THE reasons is honestly i think shit is just changing, since we are growing up, alot of the music and content wont work us since we been overstimulated with it, but the next generations, or people thats born between 2008-2013 are the one thats being catered to and Drake's recent album prove just that. I hope this make sense
edit: i think the underground is going to be the new wave of music just 2016, its like sum kind of cycle that happens every decade
