- Review of the career and personal life of singer and actor Dean Martin. Part 6 of 6.
Features rare interviews with Dino and insights from his ex-wife Jeanie and Jerry Lewis plus interviews with friends and co-stars.
Still come back from time to time and watch these. :)
Having grown up watching Dean Martin's shows and listening to his singing , It was a great pleasure to rediscover his music and movies much later in my 50's which brought back a lot of memories of my early youth , Thanks you for the warm memories & God Bless you Dean !
Jesus, this was a tear jerker...
Dean was brilliant. What a talent.
Thank you for sharing this. Dean has always been my very favorite entertainer of all time. I've read several biographies about Dean Martin but my favorite was the one by his daughter Deana. There will never be another Dean Martin. The world has changed so much and lost so much of the naivete of the past. What we found hilarious 40 years ago is lame to our children and grandchildren. They will never know the classic entertainers of our era. More is the pity. You are missed, Dean Martin.
+suki44883 Im 16 and I love dean martin, he has played a big part in my life, perhaps because I am of Italian decent

His talent transcends generations. I'm so glad you know of him and love him. Thanks for replying. :)

I think give them time. Martin's kind of genius is timeless.
No one does it better than Dean Martin.
Wonderful documentary God bless you.RIP Dean and thank you Jerry and Dean for all the love and entertainment.God bless you both
hugecashfan ... Rest in piece Jerry too. ( August 20, 2017)
Dean is with me and my family every Christmas. The best Christmas songs ever.
What is it about Dean Martin that just makes you smile? Thank you for posting this.
Loved this whole video.Dean Martin was simply the best.Actually made me cry.Love ya,Dean!
I was sad towards the end of this doco, but as soon as i saw him crush that piano i just burst out laughing.
RIP Dean Martin.
Dean Martin is the best ever, hands down. So glad I got to see him while I growing up, thru re-runs of his early work and his 70's/80's shows. Too bad there is no such talent as this man, and his era, likely never again. I consider myself lucky to have seen and lived thru it with these talents.
Dean was one year older than my Dad. He was great. Even today his shows are great.
One of the all time greats, fantastic tribute!
Nobody could ever replace Dean Martin. Ever.
Dean Martin was a natural. There are very few people that have the talent and charisma of Dean. I think another entertainer was Glen Cambell in the the music business. These guys could make anybody look good.

What a Man! No words to express...
Dino is the one and only true King of All Media. He had #1 movies, radio show, records and tv shows.Ultimately it was Dean's personality that what drew the public to him.
They'll never be another Dean Martin, not even close.

Dankjewel voor het uploaden van deze filmpjes.
Echt te gek! :-)
They made a movie about the rat pack - one scene panned down a series of hotel rooms - showed sinatra, JFK, and the rest - all with hot chick(s) in the bed. Except Dean - he was sitting alone talking with his wife on the phone - that's the moment I became a Dean Martin Fan - Love the guy - a real man.
You're very welcome. Glad you enjoy it. :)
5:35 Best Friends Forever!
Thank you Dean Martin!
RIP Dino Martini.
Doing some Hellacious roasts up in Heaven as we speak, drink in one hand...

~Jade808~
wow. i litery cried when i saw the ending. R.I.P to a great man
I"ve always been a Dean Martin fan. Scorsese has been planning a movie on Dean's life and career for years but is apparently waiting for the perfect cast. Unless they find a way to resurrect Dean I don't think they'll ever find it. And that's just Dean. They'd have to find a Frank too.
I wish his wife had been more time-specific about Dean never missing dinner. Did she meant he arrived home for dinner at the same time? Or simply that, no matter how late he arrived (within reason, of course) the family would wait for him before starting dinner? (With that kind of money it's not that hard to delay dinner and still keep in fresh.)
It's odd the way entertainers could say words that today would be impossible to say; not only on the Dean Martin roasts; but even here Dean uses the ethnic slur for Italian!
There's an interview with Marlon Brando on Edward R. Murrow's PERSON TO PERSON series and Brando casually refers to a "Chinaman." Surprisingly even in a much later era Orson Welles refers to "Chinaman" on the Johnny Carson show. Both segments are on youtube, or at least that's where I saw them.
There's also (to me at least) a remarkable Jack Benny Christmas show with Mel Blanc where Blanc is so irritated by Benny that he finally shoots himself. This is a Christmas show. I may be wrong but I don' think something like that would pass the PC censors oday.
Many jokes on the Dean Martin Roasts may not pass. We do have Comedy Central Roasts where maledicta, as they are properly called, survive, even stronger than he Dean Martin Roasts, which were more mainstream type insults, Comedy Central has real maledicta spoken by the likes of Lisa Lampanelli and so many ohers.
"Maledicta" probably go back to Aristophanes and received a new birth of life with the Ed Gein murders and terrible jokes about them.
This ideological PC has more serious legal consequences. The shrewish wife, he termagent, was once part of the commonplaces of the domestic sphere (we find her in Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew," in Irving's "Rip Van Winkle" (Dame Winkle who terrifies even Wolf, the dog), and in Bumble's famous line in "Oliver Twist" when he's told that the man is head of the house: "If the law thinks that, the law is A ass" (yes, "a").
But today, if the situation is reversed, and the man so much as calls a woman fat or a slob, he's sexist (as in accusations against Trump) or worse, she's a victim of battered women's syndrome and is acquitted of murder for shooting her husband in the head. So we made jokes of a shrewish wife berating and even intimidating her husband ("Rip Van Winkle") but find justifiable homicide in a man so much as controlling his own credit rating/cards and telling his wife not to spend so much!
Haggis But Dean was Italian himself and I don’t think, even in today’s PC culture, that you can be racist against YOURSELF can you? In fact Dean and Frank used to call each other ‘Dago’ (or ‘Dag’ for short) all the time, but it was only banter because of course they were always best friends right up until Deans death in 1995.
My mother loved him
+kirkland meadows as did Mine , With over 50 million viewer's when the entire US population was under 200 million there were a lot of Mom's swooning each week . . .
If you want to see a great Dino clip check out the one with him and Petula Clark
dino was the fuckin man.
no doubt about it.
0 dislikes. Some faith in humanity has been restored.
incredible! :-)
My Aunt dated him before he became famous. My father and I were talking about this just a few days ago.I wanted to know how they met since my aunt was from the North Side of Pittsburgh and Dean was from Stubenville.Ohio.They only went out a few times and my aunt went on to marry my uncle.Dean Martin could of maybe been my uncle...LOL My aunt passed away back in 1992.She told me about dating him when I was 17 years old.I thought she was joking but she was not. I sure miss his smooth voice.
Plain nasty. Dean Martin went out with hundreds of women throughout his life so grow up.
My dad said that his Italian uncles from Follansbee West Virginia knew and hung out with Dean when he still lived in Steubenville, Ohio, which was just across the river. Don’t know if it’s true, but it’s a cool story. Also, there’s a pic I’ve seen of Dean with the founder of Dicarlo’s’s Pizza, which is very popular here in the Ohio Valley. And every year at this time there is a dean martin festival in Steubenville, and his daughter Deena comes to sing at the Spot Bar where her dad used to sing.
Good stuff, i loved Dean, but I think he really died of a broken heart that he lost his son in that plane crash.
RIP Dino
@chgw01 Thank you. You're very welcome! : )
My pleasure Jade.
So kindly and funny
Maybe it sounds weird, but I cannot wait to get up there in heaven and see all those great entertainers again. I'm so tired of this crap we have to look at and listen to right now, and the shit our dear governments have created and we have to live with. I miss the old times so much...MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all !
@0917gva My pleasure : )
a true gent
@Culieoriginal you're welcome! : )
Somebody can tell me what the man said at 3:48? Please
Karen Núñez That was Greg Garrison, Dean’s producer on his show, and what he said was “He (Dean) looked at us and he went ‘I just thanked him’ (meaning Jerry)”
@ns940044 Try letting the video load all the way.
Such a wonderful man and great performer. I know he died Christmas Day of 1995. This Biography has a '95 Copyright on it, and there's no mention of his death, so I'm guessing this was made shortly before he passed away?
Dean Martin the last great Entertainer doubt we'll ever have another one like him. I can imagine a movie ever being made of this man cuz the actor that would play Dean Martin would have to be so phenomenal and then the actors to play the people around him would have to be just as phenomenal and the writing of the movie would have to be is true is true can get for it to be an ok movie. For it to be great you have to have Dean and the people around him the real Jerry the real Frank the real Jeannie and so on. You would have to cover everything it would be the longest movie ever written
Does anybody have the ending clips
You're welcome María.
the High water mark of Cool . . .that which passes for cool today wouldn't have been fit to hold the door open for this Cat . . .
definitely the coolest of the cool....
What biography?????
still the best
Graag gedaan!
December 25th 1995.

Love dean one of the greats
i didn't liked this documentary...it was sad , Dean was a happy guy, this doesn't reflect his image and legacy..
Greenheart cry us a river
Greenheart Yes, Dean was mostly a happy guy and for a long time lived a rather charmed life. But, like everyone else, he had unhappy times too. Most obvious were his marriage breakups and the split with Jerry. Also he lost both his parents within about a year of each other, and other family members and close friends like Sammy Davis. Through most of it he worked hard to keep up his carefree public image so many of his fans were not aware of his heartache (the old show business adage 'the show must go on') But of course the final blow was the tragic untimely death of Dean Paul, which everyone who knew him said was what broke Deans heart and more or less caused him to give up on life. Around the same time he was diagnosed with cancer but apparently refused treatment because he just didn't want to go on.
why is it important that he was straight??
Armin Sab Because back in the 1940s and 50s when he first started out, being gay wasn't as accepted as it is now. At that time it probably would have ended his career. I don't know what the law was in America, but I think that here in the UK it was still actually illegal until sometime in the 1960s.(though I'm not totally sure about that, and stand to be corrected if I have it wrong)
Dino -- best of the Rat Pack.
RIP DINO
