I think he didn’t know his dad so I guess they found out later that it was his cousin lol the closer kin the deeper in
Tbh most of the videos are recorded live anyway
As a southerner i'm insulted, as a musician i'm inspired.
As a Northerner, and merely a fan without any musical talent other than I know what I Love....I love this!!!!!!✌️😊
You forgot to add ... and as a southerner, I’m also horny for what’s down yon holler.
What if I told you in Canada Cousin marriage is technically legal but not commonly practiced.
🤣🤣
The best insults are true.......
I love that when they filmed this, they had a suitcase of CDs, and a handmade sign saying "pay what you want :) " and now, here we are 5 years later, their music has been in television shows, I've heard two of their songs on the radio, they've had at least one world tour that i know of, and one of their LPs even charted. Not bad for guys singing a song about cousin lovin' in front of the Royal Bank Plaza in Toronto.
'Not bad..?' More like bloody fab.
its always satisfying seeing amazing artists getting the light they deserve
It's on the jukebox at the bar I work at also. So happy it have that bit of sanity when I need it.
Edited to add I'm in jefferson city missouri.
Saw them in Los Angle-ese when they swung by in 2019, one of the best live shows I’ve seen. Good thing I like whiskey and string bands.
And they're still sweet lovin on their cousin

When u got a cousin. For a dime piece. Take that ride out to the sea and just let it be. If the baby comes out with an amish hat and beard and you hear wait theres anotherone and it's a banjo. The kid ain't my son isnt gonna fly.

Thank you Canada for keeping Bluegrass, string music, and the banjo alive. You make us Kentuckians happy.

I love the banjo in this song this dude has got some serious talent
He’s a metal head. Colten “craw-daddy” Crawford.
@Luci-rv1hl he was the lead guitarist of a short-lived metal band before he picked up the banjo.
@marvinthemaniac7698 ah so that's why he plays it like a guitar. It's so weird, a song called banjo odyssey and yet the banjo player doesn’t even play the banjo properly, or particularly well.

Spat my drink across the room when the chorus started. Worth it. Love these guys.
@Blake Gross 🌬️🤭☔😆 Hahahaha! That's my #1 favorite! Not this song, "spat my drink across the room"! Woo hoo! Get those divorce papers out of the way & grab a towel! I was watching (for the first time ever) Russell Brand's "Ponderland: Family" on UA-cam w/my laptop on the coffee table & literally had to clean the living room after trying to destroy my laptop 4X while my lunch got cold & soggy! Thanks for the memories...I'm gonna try to find it and watch it again now!☔🤣🤣

Do you realise the elites all marry their cousins: Eleanor Roosevelt, 1st cousin to Teddy. Queen Elizabeth, first cousin to Phillip. There are many more - do your own homework. This is why most of our leaders are insane. They are all inbred since ancient Egypt times.
Since discovering this band through 'In Hell I'll Be in Good Company' I literally haven't been able to stop listening to them. All day at work it's whatever they have on UA-cam on repeat since Tuesday.
Shawn Stevens it’s so good it just sucks that the storyline is so messed up, anyone who finds out you listen to it probably thinks that you are incest. It’s depressing
This is 100% what happened to me! Love Bluegrass, stumbled onto In Hell I'll Be Good Company, now I can't stop singing Banjo Odyssey! All I can say is wish I had better looking cousins 😆

She's pretty good... I mean, even your Dad agrees.

Your way too impressionable😂
I just love that they sing this in an urban area mocking what the urbans think of southerners 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@Bob Davidson now you know that is not what I meant. I'll leave you to ponder.
@Bob Davidson I am a southerner. Lol
@Bob Davidson you are taking this waaaaay out of context.
@Bob Davidson Have you seriously never heard the stereotype of southerners fucking their cousins? Or are you just playing dumb?
Honestly never really thought about this song that way. That it was kinda mocking the stereo type instead of playing up the stereo type for their "Southern" image. Cause people in urban areas really do think very very very little about people that live in more rural areas. Seen it alot since moving to LA, had some shit call me a cousin Fer cause I said our family has a farm out on the Florida Georgia line, also had people try to talk down to me and my dad thinking we are morons. If this is mocking the people that think that way about rural folk then I think I can look at this song in a different light.
I played this song for my uncle...

This song is so deliciously wrong. Gotta love a band that can poke fun of the stereotype. It's brilliant and love the music arrangement. I love their other songs as well.
The song is about a murder suicide and people get hung up on the first cousin thing, lol, people are so F'ed in the head, lol.
@@richardcheek2432 I thought the end was about rape..of the cousin...
@@woo-sahbodyworks5859 It could be, it is all subjective art.
I think the strongest, most obvious interpretation, is:
1) 'I tore up the restraining order' - The cousins Dad told her to stay away from the singer and got a court order to make him stay way.
2) Dont you know not to kiss and tell' - singer and cousin had been having a consensual affair till Daddy found out.
3) 'Pulled you out by your hair, people ask, I was never there, come on baby and take a ride with me, come on baby lets drive out to the sea' - he essentially kidnaps the girl and forces her into the car at which time he gets on the highway and accelerates till he loses control and fatally crashes and kills them both.
Deep South's music is almost all death metal lyrics. Every song has some kind of death theme.
@@richardcheek2432 "3) 'Pulled you out by your hair, people ask, I was never there, come on baby and take a ride with me, come on baby lets drive out to the sea' - he essentially kidnaps the girl and forces her into the car at which time he gets on the highway and accelerates till he loses control and fatally crashes and kills them both."
I saw this line very differently. The way I see it is more figuratively, he didnt kidnap as she was more than willing to go. The "by the hair" just means he didnt really give her time to think about it. He just did a grab and go.
As for the last section, going faster, I dont see it as literal either. More, he is going faster in the relationship than she wants. As normal, the guy is thinking with his dick, and the girl is being more mature.
@@SgtSeth Well art is a very subjective thing.. The clue for me is that 'Dead South' is a transformed 'Death Metal' band and almost all of their songs involve someone dying in some way.
my absolute favorite song of the Dead South.

Lol, as a musician it’s not that hard to do actually. 9/10 your tapping your foot along with the rhythm anyway. So you might as well get some bass out of it. Lol my boy has a suitcase drum
I love the hard beat in this song - I’m not sure why it’s bringing moods of ‘jolene’ to me but it has that deep, back woods beat that is timeless
When I went to see the Dead South at the Fillmore Theater in December 2021, the whole audience was begging them to play this song, they saved it for last.

I'm just amazed seeing a resurrection of thiss...folksy(?) southern(?) bluegrass(?) type of music. And it's coming out of places you wouldn't even expect like Canada or California for crying out loud haha. And it sounds genuine too. Very interesting. I hope this kind of music sticks around for awhile. I'm a Mexican dude from a California suburb and this shit gets me UP. I never understood why people don't like a particular song just because it's from a particular genre. If a song is good, it's fucking good. It doesn't matter if it's rock, jazz, soul, folk, rap, EDM or whatever; or if it's perceived to be white or black or purple people music.
People are tired of deadbeat pop, I can't blame them.
It doesn’t matter where it comes from to be country. Lots of country folk come out of the canada america border like Montana. It’s the northern CITIES that we call yankee
Never left
I think the main reason anyone hates a specific genre is cause most of that genre that's popular is shitty music. The good stuff doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Like as far as country goes, for instance, one of the best artists many ain't heard of is Chris Knight. Check his song Going Down the River. It's metal as fuck, but it's real country.
Well said! 👏
