Thanks for this video! Just replaced the backup camera in my 2009 Murano, and it was so easy thanks to you! :)

Thanks for the video. Did you try to put it in reverse after it turned on after diagnostic mode with the original camera control unit? it was weird it turned on. Was your picture intermittent before?

Yes. After I opened it up to inspect the board I ended up putting it back in the car for about a week and it did not work at all again. After replacing it I haven't had a problem since.

This is an amazing step by step walk-through, thank you! Just bought this car and am having the same problem with the screen just turning black when putting in reverse. I pulled up the system diagnostic menu but the “Camera Cont.” option is not there. Not sure what to do at all as there is a camera on the car and it clearly recognizes when the car is put in reverse as it switches to the same screen as yours. So where do I even start with this option not even showing up?

Just to confirm you can get to the Confirmation / Adjustment screen in the System Diagnostic menu but you don't see the Camera Control option? I know it's not displayed on the initial screen but I'm assuming you tried scrolling by pressing the down arrow 5 or 6 times. The only other thing I can think of is that you might have a different version of the Self Diagnostic software which may have subtly different menu options. What year is your Murano?

@@shaneperche-fixed-it Yup, I did all of those steps and see the same exact menu as the one you have, just didn’t have the camera option. Mine is a 2009 Murano.

Ok, thanks for confirming. I haven't seen that issue before so I'll see if I can find a solution in the Nissan AV service manual. You can find the manual here if you want to also take a quick look: www.nicoclub.com/service-manual?fsm=/FSM/Murano/2009/AV.pdf It's quite helpful but sometimes it takes a bit of reading before you find the information you need.

Had u had any problem with your keyless entry? I’ve been, but can’t figure out why, was wondering if you know, 2010 Nissan Murano SL

The only time I had problems with the keyless entry was when the battery on the fob died which is a pretty easy fix but I'm assuming you probably tried that already. I have also seen issues with interference if you have multiple fobs on your key chain so make sure to test your keyless entry with only one fob in proximity of the door. Then try the other fob in isolation. If both key fobs fail, you may have an electrical problem or your key fobs may need to be reprogrammed. Unfortunately, there is no way to self program the key fobs for the 2009/10 Murano.

@shane, I have the issue with Murano 2007, both rear camera and reverse light are not working, any help will be appreciated!

      Hi Boba,
This is a tricky issue to diagnose as there are quite a few failure points. I don't suspect the camera itself since the reverse lights are also not working so it is likely an electrical issue between the shifter sensor and the reverse lights/camera. For example, the switch/reverse sensor itself, a fuse, a broken/shorted wire, wire connectors are not fully connected, or the control unit itself. It's going to be a process of elimination so I would start with the easy stuff and check the fuses first.
Next look for signs of broken wires in the points with high wear and tear (i.e. where the trunk opens/closes) Next check the switch/reverse sensor in the shifter plate. You can test this by going into the AV diagnostic menu (which I show how to access in my video) and select Vehicle signals then look at the reverse signal value. (It should be off) Now put the car in reverse and make sure the signal changes to on. Then go back to park and make sure it goes back to off. If the value doesn't change, then it's very likely the shifter position module. If all of this passes you're going to have to track down the wiring diagram and test the continuity in the wiring from sensor to the control unit/lights. It's going to take some time and patience to troubleshoot this so don't get frustrated as you'll learn a lot about the car in the process which will help you diagnose and fix future problems much faster.
      Hope that helps,
      Shane

Okay I see this black screen everywhere, but what if the camera doesn't even register? My issue first started when I was driving and all of a sudden the camera turned on and stayed on until I'd put the car in reverse and then back in drive. But then it would just come in again and I'd have to do the same thing and it wouldn't go off by itself. Now when I put my car in reverse nothing happens on the display. No change no nothing. I thought maybe water damage from when I left my sunroof open during the rain (even though my car was under a very full tree) but when I took apart the whole center assembly all the way down to the metal I could not see anything that could have been soaked in water OR any exposed wiring so I'm not sure what to do or look for at this point. Not sure if you or anyone watching this video would know...
